I've heard of this place and finally got to experience it! Yum!!! Nothing like freshly made naan!

Wao. I was looking for some indian food for my birthday that was a week after we moved to hammond. I was expecting to find one but little i know that one of the best ranked restaurants here was an Indian one and oh surprise...inside a gas station. I looked up the reviews and saw a lot of people saying is the best indian food in Louisiana and even tho im not expert i can tell that its amazing. A m a z i n g. So fresh, so rich, the flavors are delicious, again so fresh,so well cooked. They package the food the best way possible, so it makes it even better cause you know there is attention and they care. We had the chicken and goat curry the first time, cheese naan and samosas. I cannot explain the samosas,big,cruchy, full of the filling and delicious sweet and sour sauce and a mint sauce that its also great. The naan was delicious. The curry so so so good, we ordered medium spicy and it was really ok. The portions are good,not a lot of protein but thats fine cause its a curry,not a chicken. The goat was amazing. Good portion of rice and the naan is enough for more than 2 people. Great price. Second visit Lord. Please. Wao. The tikka chicken, so so so so creamy,delicious,perfect,FRESH. I was out of myself. We ordered garlic naan and was great ..again. We called and it was ready around 25 mins after. We ordered indian spicy and it wasnt bad , not too spicy. Whatever i dunno what else to say. Apparently, these people run these shit-hole on the wall like they're still in India, developing country. Reported it to the Dept of Health and hopefully, the place would be shut down soon if not already. And you gotta be outta your mind to eat here. Once upon a time food used to be good but now it has gone down the drain, commercialized. Thank you for bringing Indian food in Hammond America! The food is delicious, but I had to subtract a star because it's in a gas station. Ambience aside, you can get good Indian food here. My favorite is the Dal Makhani. If you like red beans, I think you'll like this one, it's stewed lentils and kidney beans. They had good lunch buffet pre-covid, but now only serving take out. Don't forget the naan! It's pretty quick and served hot and fresh. read more

I'm giving one star not because the food was nasty, but I placed an order through door dash for the first time from Punjabi and was given the completely wrong order. I had to leave my house at this point to go to Punjabi which defeated the purpose or ordering DoorDash in the beginning, but it also was the woman at the front register who made me feel as if I was trying to get over on them. Clearly the order was incorrect and it was on them. Would I go back NO! Just based on how I felt because I just wanted what I paid for and I'm sure the persons order I got was also upset. read more

Eureka! I found amazing Indian food in LA! This gem is located at a Shell gas station in Hammond, which is a good stopping point for a NO to BR trip or vice versa. I am not phased by the convenience store dining area; this felt familiar to me because of all the dhabas I've been to on the major interstates in the west. The staff are attentive, pleasant, and made us feel very welcome. On the weekends, you have the option of dining from the buffet or ordering a la carte. We choose the buffet and we were not disappointed. On the first round, I loaded up on the staples - garlic naan, fluffy jasmine rice, chicken tikka, fish pakoras, eggplant masala, goat curry, tandoori chicken, palak paneer, and aloo gobi. There's plenty of choices for both vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. My one minor critique is that the food is mild for Indian standards, but this is completely understandable as they are catering to a wide swath of tastes. I looked at the menu afterwards, and they can dial up or down the spice levels if you order a la carte. Also, at ~$13/pp, the buffet is reasonably priced. Lastly, you're in a convenience store. You can stock up on your road trip essentials on your way out. For me, that was a plain medium cup of coffee, soda for the kiddo, and a lottery ticket for good measure. The optics are really bad when you pull up, don't let it fool you. After living near Chicago's little India on Devon for years, I can soundly say this some of the best Indian food I've ever had. Wicked good and well worth a drive from NOLA or BR. even Lafayette. Maybe Houston. We had the garlic chili naan, samosas, lamb vindaloo (3), and chicken curry (2). Every dish was amazing. We were a little skeptical since this is in a gas station. We were surprised by the inside. The majority of the space is tables and buffet, with the convenience store items on the walls surrounding the eating area. We did not order anything off the menu. We only did the buffet. We have tried many Indian buffets. In my opinion their chicken was the most tender and moist. Other restaurants tend to be tough and dry. The naan was a little sweet and almost had a pancake flavor. There was a coconut chicken which was really good, along with the staples of tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala, and chicken biryani. The paneer palak was very smooth and didn't have many chunks of cheese to wade through. The only improvement I would suggest is that they add more spices. The flavors were all good, but I have had more flavorful dishes from other Indian establishments. If it weren't so far away then I'm sure we would go back. read more

We went to Punjabi Dhaba after someone suggested them to cater our wedding. We drove an hour to try it and it did not disappoint. To me, this was Houston quality desi food in Hammond of all places! The restaurant is inside a gas station and set up as a buffet (for lunch at least). We went with some friends and each had at least two plates of food it was so good. The shahi paneer was my absolute favorite. The pakora were good. The tandoori chicken could have been seasoned better but was very tender and yummy. Oh and they have desserts and chai which were delicious. They also had tons of vegetarian options. We're definitely going to be back when we have the desire for some good desi food. read more

Excellent takeout!! Absolutely delicious! I will say that if you order takeout and they quote you 30 min, expect 45. The inside is a simple gas station atmosphere so know that in advance if you think you want to dine inside. We ordered pick up to go and couldn't be happier with our legit Indian Sat night meal. My 8 year old picky eater devoured the chicken tikka Masala, like we should've ordered 2 orders! Samosas were a little spicy, but fresh and crispy. Chicken saag was probably the least flavorful item we ordered, but still very good. Mater paneer and garlic naan were also superb. All were ordered "medium spicy" and had PLENTY of heat and we're used to spice. I wish it was closer and more convenient for us to visit more often when we get those Indian food cravings. read more

Ok, so this isn't the first time we've tried Indian food at a gas station. First time was in upstate NY (disaster), and yes, this makes #2. I have to say, this is legit Punjabi food. We had channa masala, bhindi masala, dhal makhani, chicken curry, vegetable pakoras, and garlic naan. It was delicious! My 8yo even said it was his 3rd favorite! The only others being the gurudwara, and his Dadi's, coming from his sophisticated palate, I'd say that is VERY impressive. If you're ever in the NOLA, highway 12 area, check them out while you get some gas. I didn't take a pic because I was too busy over eating... my favorite kind of eating. read more

Sometimes, the South stuns me. Punjabi Dhaba is one of those times. Off the exit at Hammond on I-12, Punjabi Dhaba excites the taste buds. The sauces are rich and textured. Hints of spicy and sweetness all mingle together on a buffet plate...well at a gas station. Go figure. Actually, I was told by a co-worker from India that I had to go here. Punjabi Dhaba beats anything in Baton Rouge where I live. Hands down. Today, I talked to the owner who said that in buying the gas station, they wanted to stand out against the corporate giants next door. So, they decided to do an Indian buffet restaurant inside the gas station. And it works. The raita, the naan bread, the masala sauce, the buttered chicken, the kheer--whatever you get, it's lovely. They also have good work arounds for COVID. Tables are spaced out six feet apart and plenty of locals come in for their to-go orders. They ask you to wear gloves and a mask before going up to the buffet. Just be on the cautious side. Plenty of uneducated and inconsiderate Louisianians are going up to the buffet without obeying these rules when the owner goes back into the kitchen. I'm vaccinated and still obeying them, so just know that might happen. The owner did tell me they are opening up a new location in about 3-4 months, so I'll update and revise my review for their new location as they move to a restaurant location. We were on our way to Pensacola Florida and decided to spend a night in this town. We were staying in holiday inn few doors down. I happen to stumble by this hole in the wall kind of Indian restaurant inside a convenience store. Seems like a family run business. I went ahead and ordered some paneer and daal with some naans. Food was surprisingly very Good. It was super fresh with all the correct spice blends. Hard to believe you can get this quality Indian food in a town like this where there is hardly any Indian population around. Yea - they truly are inside of a gas station convenience food. I am not a fan of any desi place here in BR, so we drove all the way to Hammond for what seemed like true Punjabi food. The place was blasting punjabi music when we walked in, and it made me giggle! The folks here spoke in punjabi too, which definitely made me miss home. Now for the food - This was their lunch buffet - there was about 3 veggie dishes and 5-6 non veggie ones. Anurag loved everything on their menu, and declared the buffet a hit. As for me - I found that one of their dishes was the punjabi kadhi, and that was the end of the buffet line for me, haha. I just had second and third helpings of the punjabi kadhi - yogurt based curry with fried veggie/ chickpea flour dumplings. This was a straight up dose of home made food that I had been craving for a while. I loved every bite of it. The buffet is pretty basic, but very tasty. The place is very home owned - I wish I had had a chance to meet the owner myself and chat with him. It's not often that you get to meet someone who has the same taste in food as I do :) read more

Flipping through the Yelp list for Indian food this jump at me since it's located in Gas station. Never judge a book by its cover. This restaurant did not disappoint. I've eaten tons Indian food from west coast to east coast. Man, this place was bomb. The tandoori chicken was moist,tender and flavorful. Kids and gun t loved butter chicken. I thought it's but sweet for my tooth. The texture and creaminess was on point. The goat curry was my fav!!! The spice was just right where ur nose ain't dripping! Meat was fall off bone and not gamey at all. The only thing I was not keen on was the lamb kabob. It was a bit tough. But if it wasn't, I give that fish alone 5.m because the spice marinating it was authentic. We will be back. Lol.....even though we're 2 hour drive. read more

Ordered coconut chicken and curry chicken to go from this location, very tasty. They do a great job at wrapping their to go items and prevent spilling. The rice that comes with the entree is lightly seasoned as well, sometimes I can just eat that by itself. Also ordered cheese naan that once again I enjoyed and my mom is a fan of onion rings so she loved the twist of the Onion Bajhi. The buffet option isn't available due to the ongoing pandemic, but I'd love the chance to try it one day. read more

Delicious Indian food in a shell gas station. Wow a gas station holding one of the cheapest Indian buffet that was fresh and flavorful. Not the most selection but what was there was very good. A gentleman patrols the tables placing hot and fluffy naan. I have had many Indian dishes over the years but their saag paneer was stellar. Big pieces of dense paneer and flavorful spinach was my favorite offering and a red tomato sauce dish of simmered veggies. I'm sorry it took me so long to stop l won't forget this place read more
