Wow! Just when i started to lose hope with food trucks, HOPE RESTORED! Very rarely do you get true artists in the mobile kitchen, PUPUKEA GRILL IS A MUSEUM of cuisine! Immediately upon approaching the order counter i was welcomed with aloha and introduced to the crowd favorite spicy tuna bowl. I also tried there Acai and quesidilla plate. Their poke bowl (Spicy Tuna) was impressively fresh! All the veggies, fish, rice, and avocado FRESH AS FRESH CAN BE! And not only that! But they had some sweet shoyu sauce to bring everything to a harmonious note of yummy yummness. Had lunch here today. Got the chicken quesadilla plate and teriyaki chicken plate. Added avocado to the quesadilla and loved it. Big portions and very filling. Chicken teriyaki plate came with brown rice and potato salad and two chicken thighs; wasn't much flavor to the chicken. They have a seating area by the food truck. Was under impressed by the poke (so so salty). Granted after ordering, we waited 30 min for the food while the line was short. We were not sure why it was taking so long. This place is an awesome hidden gem that was recommended to me by a friend who referred to it as the best food on the island. So, naturally I had to go! A blue food truck located across from Pupukea Beach. I would recommend calling in your order in advance as it gets busy. Most orders appeared to have been phoned in. No a la carte options available. I ordered a spicy poke bowl, added avocado. It was around $14. They do not offer a standard poke bowl but the spicy option wasn't too hot and was perfectly paired with white rice. We stopped here after a long day on the beach. My hubby had a poke bowl and said that the spice in it was perfect. It wasn't just hot but it was spicy and flavorful. You could probably eat food from the menu of Pupukea Grill for a week, and never run out of options. I love the shredded chicken tacos plate, and I order that every time. It comes with 3 tortillas (you can specify corn, if desired), lots of chicken with incredible seasoning, black beans, rice, cabbage, sour cream, and tomatoes/onions. It was more than enough food, but perfect after an afternoon of surfing or exercise. The food is healthy, and the dishes taste great! read more

Very unassuming blue food truck parked in a lot across from Shark's cove. Limited parking in front of the truck, but you can park along the side of the road in front of surrounding houses. Really good food that tastes fresh. I always get the spicy ahi bowl ($9), which is served over brown rice w/ some nori and teri sauce. The chunks of fish are soft and seasoned perfectly. I'd guess it comes w/ about 1/3-1/2 lb of poke. It's just the right amount of food to fill me, but if you're a bigger eater you might still be hungry. The kalua pig tacos are pretty good too ($11.50). Best mexican food I've ever tried? Not really. But it's a filling portion and the pineapple salsa w/ cilantro on top is mean. Don't forget to wash it all down with a Purps hydro drink ($3.50). Its Kelly Slater's concoction of coconut water and a bunch of antioxidant berries that are supposed to be really good for you. They call this the "North Shore's favorite truck" with good cause, this place is delicious! Hubby and I shared the ahi loco moco, and let me tell you... "lemon caper butter sauce, local north shore greens and fresh ahi" should be enough to make your mouth water, because the description doesn't say "party of flavors in your mouth." Great little local spot! The ahi was incredible and fresh. The only loco moco I had during this latest trip, and glad I did because nothing was gonna come close to the satisfaction that plate of food gave me. On a side note, feeling adventurous, I ordered the pitaya smoothie. I had no idea what it was, but figured since it was on the menu it probably wasn't poisonous. Pest spicy poke bowl I've had anywhere and I've eaten dozens! Portions were on point, I got the large and it was full of flavor. My wife got the ahi taco plate it was large, and packed with flavor. Such an awesome place to stop to grab food when in the North Shore. Portions are nice and food is tasty. Despite being a food truck, there is still a very nice area to sit and enjoy your food. Or there's always the option of taking your food to the beach! Food: I usually order the quesadilla plate, which is huge and great for sharing. There are a variety of meat options including chicken, ahi, and kalua pig. The quesadilla comes with sour cream, Spanish rice, lettuce, salsa, and beans. You also have the option of adding guacamole for an extra fee. After eating 2 of the 4 pieces, I was so stuffed! I also tried the doner gyro (with chicken), which was good but nothing amazing. The pitaya smoothie is also amazing! I've heard acai bowls and poke are great options as well. The menu is pretty extensive so there is something for everyone. Service/Ambiance/Price: Service was pretty fast considering it's only a little truck making all the food. Ambiance is super casual and beachy. The price is a little on the high side I would say considering it's a truck. Quesadilla plate is ~$12, gyro ~$9, smoothies ~$7. Parking: There's no real set parking area but you can usually pull your car up in front of the food truck. read more

I love this place!! Pupukea Grill is a food truck located across the street from the beach on the north shore. The parking lot is a little bit small but there is a seating area with tables and condiments to enjoy your food. You order at the window and they will call out your name on a loudspeaker when your order is ready. I've been here several times and have never been disappointed! I typically order the quesadillas, either Kalua pork or chicken ($11.95), which comes with beans, sour cream, salsa, Spanish rice and lettuce. HIGHLY RECOMMEND as these babies are THICK...sooo cheesy and delicious. I also tasted the pitaya smoothie ($6.95) which was A+ but kind of pricey. The doner kebab wrap with chicken was also tasty! Overall, the food here is delicious and the portions are generous. Prices are pretty standard and the only thing I'd note is that since the food is made to order, it doesn't come out super quickly (5-10 min), but I'm not complaining! read more

This little truck is amazing. They are the only truck in that location. They have a variety of options to choose from. They are located right next to a service ststion, and across the street from a beach. But if you don't like the selection oh food, don't worry! Just a couple of feet they have the north shore shrimp truck and a surf truck, and other trucks in that location. When I was looking their truck up the dish that stood out to me right away was the poke bowl. I got the spicy ahi bowl. They use brown rice, purple onion, seaweed and if course spicy ahi. They offer two selections for the bowl regular for $9.95 or double the fish for $14.99. And if you like avocado you can add it to your poke bowl for$ 1.50. The staff is super nice and friendly. They offer their opinion and a always smiling in the crazy heat and small working space. If I ever have the time I will definitely be coming back to try other dishes on the menu. read more

When we were here it was online orders only, not sure why. I ordered the pitaya smoothie, and i was really surprised at how expensive it was. It came out to almost $11....pretty expensive for a smoothie if you ask me. But whatever, couldn't be helped. When we placed the order it said it would take 30 minutes. In the meantime we walked to foodland which was maybe a 5 minute walk. By the time we got there we received an email saying our orders were ready..So that was weird. When we got back to the truck we waited a super long time for pickup, because there was already a group of people waiting as well. Also, I found it weird that my smoothie was in a tin can. It was pretty, but not what I expected, so I feel like they ran out of the standard cups. And I think the can the smoothie was in was smaller than a regular cup. Despite this, the smoothie itself was very refreshing & good. I love Pūpūkea Grill. Why? Because the service is always friendly and above all, their açaí bowls are by far the best on island!! I typically get the açaí bowl with chia pudding and they are always generous with the toppings. There is a convenient little covered spot to sit down and eat next to the food truck. There is everything from quesadillas to smoothies. For those that are looking for a healthy alternative, this is a great spot as they have a lot to choose from. It's so hard to find healthy, fresh, veggie-abundant food in Hawaii... so many rice plate and musubi places. But Pūpūkea Grill fulfills that need so well! They are a food truck by Sharks Cove next to a gas station, and have an extensive menu. We both ordered the Hawaiian bowl, and loved it. Comes with brown rice, Lomi salmon, kalua pork, greens, and a giant scoop of taro. Add avocado for $1.25 more. It sounds like an odd combo, but totally works and is delicious! Easily our best and favorite meal in the North Shore. We ordered a cheese quesadilla plate for the kids, and the portion is huge. The plate comes with rice, beans, pico de gallo, and sour cream. 10/10 would recommend this place! read more

This is my second time to pupukea grill and it's honestly the best food option in the area. The first time I went I got the spicy ahi bowl which was also really really good! I've tried some of the other food trucks but none of them have as great homemade/quality taste! This is a perfect post beach snack/lunch! I got the loaded acai chia bowl which comes with your choice of honey or agave on top! This acai bowl is honestly more worth than their regular acai bowls for just $2 more. The bowl was filled with all kinds of yummy stuff including chia pudding, peanut butter and oats, granola, strawberries, blueberries, banana, kiwi, apples and coconut! My only wish is that the acai base was more frozen it was more like a liquid than a frozen base. The bowl came out to $12.45 post tax! Love that this food truck uses reusable spoons which minimizes environmental waste, and it also has water bottle fill up stations! This food truck also takes credit cards :) Some tips: Parking is across the street. Also be sure to check updates on instagram because sometimes they do take days off or are closed from their regular business hours. Great food truck across of sharks cove! It's a little pricy but I think one of the better deals on the north shore. After a long morning of community service at the beach, I was starving! I was afraid the Spicy Ahi Quinoa bowl would be too small, but to my surprise it filled me up and I could barely finish it. It's actually a very simple dish, but so good! The spicy ahi is very similar to the Foodland poke, super fresh! I highly recommend getting the avocado with this, as well as the Hawaiian Bowl. It's a $1.50 upgrade and definitely contributes to the flavor palette. I also love how they are very sustainable with their packaging! Everything was recyclable which I greatly appreciate since it is right across of a beach. read more

Oh my!!!!! Arrived around 4.30pm after a quick wander in shark bay. The girls were helpful and suggesting best from the menu. Ordered pork quesadillas and a guava smoothie. This pig is seriously great!! No need for anything else, full of flavour and juicy I wish I'd discovered this smoothie before now, I will certainly be ordering it , and the pork! again.
