Been here many times and well worth the drive from University Place where we live…read more The menu has expanded along with the wines available. The ambiance has increased from a 6 to an 8 or 9. The food and presentation has remained a solid 10 out of 10. We enjoyed 2 appetizers, 1 salad that we shared, 2 entrees 2 deserts, 2 coffee's and 1 bottle of a very nice Southern Rhone wine for a price that was at least 1/3 less the cost of their value. Lamb shanks and duck breast in a reduced cherry sauce that was perfectly prepared, presented and served. I am very particular about duck even if you can find it on a menu. It was a 12. If you miss this dining experience you lose. This is European chefing at its finest. In Parkland no less. A 3 or 4 times a year type of fine dining place. Yes, we eat out often and know our stuff.

We went to Pimienta Bistro for my birthday dinner, and it was a wonderful experience…read more We started with the Rustic Bread served with olive oil and balsamic reduction. The bread was perfectly baked, delicately salted, and the balsamic was so good you'd be tempted to drink it. My husband ordered a Dark and Stormy, but the first one tasted like it was made with vodka instead of rum. Our server was kind and professional about it, and the replacement cocktail was much better. I had the Basil Martini, which was fantastic, herbaceous, refreshing, and easy to sip. For dinner, I ordered the Duck Confit, my favorite dish on the menu. It was beautifully presented, tender, and full of flavor. My husband had the Pan-Seared Scallops with polenta cakes and lobster-truffle beurre blanc, and he said they were delicious. The atmosphere added to the experience. I liked the artwork, and the music hit all the right notes. We were greeted and seated right away, and the service stayed attentive throughout the evening. Prices are on the higher side, but the quality and presentation make it worth it. This is my favorite restaurant in Federal Way and always feels special every time we visit.

The more detailed vers: I found this place on Yelp, but had never visited before. I was SO excited by the glowing recommendations, so my bf and I decided to choose it to make my 40th bday dinner special. - First clue something was off was the place was dead. We were the SOLE patrons there on a Sunday night! - My mandarin basil mocktail was quite literally a glass of grapefruit juice with a single basil leaf on top. - We ordered crispy brussel sprouts as an appetizer; not only were they not crispy but they were near raw? Tough, undercooked brussel sprouts lol what - My main was paella, it was...fine...not terrible but they were super stingy with the seafood, there were only 2 meager chunks of chicken, 3 tiny scallops and like 3 shrimp in the entire dish. Keep in mind these plates were fine dining prices; the ingredients here likely cost dollars, at best - Bf's steak was overcooked It was bad enough where I politely said something to the waitress which I NEVER do and she apologized and said their lead chef called in sick so all they had was a chef in training. Anyway that was all fine, we laughed it off at the time aa bad luck. But yesterday my bf's stomach was upset the whole day, and that my friends was the final straw to push me to write this review. To the restaurant owners: it's one thing to have a mediocre dinner, who cares; but we paid high prices to be served crummy food, have a special night be disappointing and then to get sick afterward? That's not alright. I will say, the service was great and the staff very polite so it pains me to write this but it felt necessary.

Every little detail is amazing. They made our night very special hands down. The food was phenomenal. Everything so fresh. I loved that a lot of the seasonal things I grow myself was also on their menu. The wine pairings were good, but like most things, wines are subjective to personal taste. And last but certainly not least, inside the restaurant was absolutely beautiful. A very intimate affair and it was nice that the you could see them cooking and preparing your food. The chef explained everything about the meal before you started. Definitely will be going as much as possible while we still reside in the state.

The reservation is for 7pm but you can arrive as early as 615pm to explore the gardens, wine cellar, and library, as well as get a welcome (non-alcoholic) refreshing beverage. All of the staff were introduced and they explained both the food menu and the wine pairings. During the meal, there's a live guitarist playing classical takes on tunes. Everyone is super polite, they commented on my Labubu and their custom (hand knit!) hat - shoutout to Rosalee for the Labubu hat. Here's the menu and the pairings. My thoughts were that the peas stood out but otherwise it was a forgettable meal. The cabbage rolls are delicious, the meatballs are fantastic, and their fresh-baked breads and pastries are some of my favorites in the area. That being said... I made the mistake of coming here on a Saturday afternoon. First, the parking lot. Wow. It took me probably 10-15 minutes just to find a parking spot. There simply isn't enough parking for the number of people that come here on weekends, so everyone is circling the lot waiting for someone to leave. Then, once you finally find a space, people don't leave enough room to get in or out because traffic is coming from every direction. If driving stresses you out, I'd honestly recommend visiting during the week instead. Monday through Friday around lunchtime has always been a much easier experience for me. Inside was just as busy. The deli counter had a huge line, and the store was packed with people. It was difficult to move around because shoppers were constantly walking in front of each other without much awareness of those around them. None of that is really the store's fault--it just speaks to how popular they are--but it definitely made for a stressful visit. The reason I stopped in this time was to finally try some of the desserts, and I'm so glad I did. The honey cake was absolutely incredible and easily my favorite. I'll definitely be buying that again. I also tried the Spartak cake, which was good, but the honey cake stole the show for me. I couldn't decide on one of the mousse cakes because they all looked amazing, so I asked the employee behind the counter to pick her favorite. She recommended the mango mousse cake, and she was right--it was delicious. The white chocolate shell gives way to a light, tangy mango mousse with actual pieces of mango inside. It was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully made. The only downside is the price. The mousse cakes are roughly palm-sized and around $10 each. While they were very good, I finished mine in one sitting, whereas the honey cake and Spartak lasted me much longer and cost less. Overall, I absolutely recommend this market. The food, bakery, and hot deli are excellent, and I'll definitely keep coming back. My only advice is simple: avoid Saturday afternoons if you can. You'll probably enjoy the experience a whole lot more.
