I was a little unsure of what to choose, because it all looked good, and the smoker was cranking out DELICIOUS SMELLS.... but he recommended the beef ribs. I picked the pasta salad and coleslaw for sides. The ribs were tender, but not falling apart mushy. Good mouthfeel. The smoke was perfect. NO LIquid Smoke yuckiness (IDK where some of these reviewers are used to eating to claim he's using that nasty stuff...) The saltiness was nice. Not AHA recommended sodium intake for cardiac health, but very tasty. The pasta salad was al dente shells with a flavorful blend of mustard, mayo, egg yolks, and seasoning. Quite good! The slaw was fine. I'd have preferred a bit of red onion to liven it up a bit more, but that's just my taste. The sauce was nicely balanced with the sweet, salty, savory, tangy. So first visit was a bust. Wanted to eat in at lunch and there were tables but person behind the counter said "Nope" can't do it because I am only one here. Well that sucks! Gave our order and was told "WAIT IN YOUR CAR AND I WILL BRING TO YOU". Wait, What, my car? There are tables and chairs can't we wait in here? Again "NOPE". So waited, got the food and headed home. Also over sauced and tasted like they dumped a whole box of Morton's Salt on the meat or into the sauce. Or both! It was so over sauced it was swimming and soupy. Wow, what a disappointment. We moved to Roy from South Hill three years ago. Hadn't found any good barbecue like what we got here. Unfortunately the quality was a huge disappointment. Additionally, I thought I was buying directly, but apparently the online order was connected to GrubHub! I went in to pick up our order and was told at the time. I had paid for service I did not receive. Also the beef ribs ( ordered two orders, but received only one. Chicken was so black it was unappealing to eat and a bit dry. I really love good bbq. Good bbq takes a real love for the craft and an understanding on how to come to the perfect balance of smoke, heat and proper timing to make it perfect. On my way home from visiting a good friend, I decided to try this spot out to take home a meal for family dinner. I ordered the brisket, pulled pork, chopped ham and beef brisket along with beans, potato salad and cornbread. For a couple hundred dollars, I was hoping for a good meal. Unfortunately, I was really disappointed with the meal. First, I never got the beef brisket I ordered. It appears they gave me pulled chicken instead. While the potato salad and beans were tasty, the meats were over smoked and overly sauced. The ribs were tough and needed to be cooked longer in order to make them tender. When smoked meats are done well, it's magic. When they are not, it leaves a lot to be desired. That being said, hopefully this may have just been a bad day. First time here and I will return. I ordered their pork and beef rib meals. The coleslaw needed more mayo and I added red onions, pepper, and salt which improved the taste immensely! I enjoyed the beef ribs more than the pork but they were both pretty good. That being typed: Both ribs improved the next day after the reheat... I guess I just had to let the sauce really marinate. Since it was our first time dining here, the owner / Pit Boss recommended she try the Beef brisket.
