I got Restylane undereye filler last year for very mild lines. I had it done before at another practice with great results. I took the day off of work and traveled to the Skokie location via bus. I arrived on time and I waited in the waiting room for about an hour. During this time, the staff members were training the receptionist in a very loud and condescending manner , which was uncomfortable for me to listen to. I was already anxious at this point, anticipating that this might not be a smooth experience for me. When I was brought in the treatment room, the technician began telling me that I didn't need undereye filler but rather I should cheek filler instead. I was uncomfortable and self-conscious at this point and told her that I had been doing small amounts of undereye filler in the past and was content getting that done again. She then got out her hand-held magnifying mirror and encouraged me to hold it up to my face to she could point the flaws in my cheeks and mansplain how my cheeks would look better if they had more volume, which would then make my undereye lines better. I embarrassingly started crying because I was already anxious and self-conscious and just wanted to get what I came in for without a magnifying mirror in my face pointing out my substandard cheeks. The technician finally agreed to do what I came in for. When she looked in her cabinet, she informed me that she was out of Restylane filler and kind of just threw up her hands and said "well, I can't use another product!" as if I had just walked in an made an outlandish request that caught her off guard. I explained that I had taken a whole day off work and traveled an hour to get to this appointment and expressed that they should have checked to see that they had the product beforehand. She seemed to soften and agreed with me. They sent someone out to pick up the product from another location and I spent another 1.5 hours waiting in the waiting room listening to this technician get scolded by another lady who worked there about this oversight. Again, I was sitting there wanting to crawl out of my skin because I was so uncomfortable and anxious. She eventually does the injections and I left 3 hours after my initial appointment time. I went to the receptionist to pay (the one who was scolding the technician earlier on) but she took a phone call after I had already queued up. I then stood in front of her awkwardly trying not to cry until she hung up and took my money. Nine months later, the filler never settled, leaving me with an obvious lump underneath the eyes. I am getting them dissolved soon having them re-done. Got undereye filler here done a few times back to back and Nadia (my injector) kept filling them up to the point where I had to dissolve them later on because she put too much over the past couple of months. Warning: Botched my botox -- and didn't care First off, I literally never write reviews, but had to write this one. At my appointment I explained that my goal for my Botox was to look like myself, just a little better rested. The injector suggested units around my crows feet/just under my eyes and a few between my eyebrows "to open up (my) hooded eyes". Within a week I started to notice that my cheeks were bunching up when I smiled (have you seen Meg Ryan lately? yeah, like that), that my hooded eyes looked even more hooded, and that I couldn't life my my eyebrows, except the outside edges, making me look evil. I was horrified, and went back to ask the injector what happened. She actually admitted that "the Botox had spread, resulting in cheek shelving and spocked eyebrows", but if I gave it another week or two, it would all look great. Well, it's been 5 weeks, and it looks horrible! It has completely changed my smile, leaving me feeling very self-conscious -- like I'm smirking at people, scrunching up like I'm smelling something foul, when I'm just trying to smile. I even had to cancel long-scheduled family photos and lose the deposit -- thank god I didn't do this before my wedding! When I called the spa again 4 weeks after my treatment, I got passed around from person to person then stood up for multiple scheduled video calls with the spa director -- they couldn't have cared less! Unprofessional service, unreliable injections! 1-On th phone they told me they had a special: $149. for 20 unit Botox and $600 for both cheek fillers. I double checked the cost three times but each time they quoted the same prices. But when I went there for my appointment, after waiting exactly for one hour, Their "nurse" called me in. She explained that the cost of 20 unit botox would be $400. and the injecting filler for my each cheek would be $600. 2- I asked the " nurse" about the botox. She showed me an opened used bottle and told me that they mix their own botox (??!! ) and that she was going to use the used bottle on me. They did not like me to ask questions not only about the price but also about the injections. Although this was a very unpleasant experience for me and a total waste of time, I'm glad I didn't get the expensive unsafe questionable injections. I was at Pure Medical Spa on 7/29. Having done Botox once before at Proper Balance Health and Wellness, I was extremely satisfied with the results and wanted to do it again and wanted to give this place a chance. However, I completely regret my choice and wish I'd never stepped in there once, let alone twice, in the first place. The employee who initially worked with us, Minnie, appeared nice at first. Another doctor walked in and watched her mark the dots on my forehead where she would be administering the botox. He pointed to one area and said that I might get droopy eyes if she administered it there. She dismissed it, said it was fine, and proceeded to inject the botox in the areas she marked. Sure enough, by the next day, my upper eyelids were swollen over my lower eyelids to the point where it was impeding my vision. I waited a couple days to see if it would go away, but by the time it was clear that nothing was changing, my daughter called their office to see if we could get anything done about it. The man who answered the phone told her that bringing me in the next day at 9 (or earlier--very insistent on getting us in before opening) would be the best time to bring me in. The next day, he told us to come in at 9:30. We weren't seen until 10, despite the fact that there were no other customers there that morning. The receptionist even told us that the doctors were never there on time anyways and was confused why he asked us to come in so early. Dr. Denuda Kowalski saw us and explained that there was nothing she could do. My daughter was also there advocating for me, and she became very emotional and upset at the potential for long-term eye damage due to how long my eyes were expected to be droopy for. She changed her mind a bit later and specifically told us, "We will give you a gift." She offered a lunchtime facelift, making it clear that it was going to be a free procedure. I agreed. (Dr. Kowalski also made a very sexist comment to my daughter, asking if she was on her period or PMSing because she was trying to hold back tears.) The woman who did my facelift let us know that she was new, though she was friendly. She asked my daughter to film the procedure so she could use it on social media. While the procedure went well, she afterward told us that we would need to buy the aftercare products, though I went off to the bathroom for a minute at this point. My daughter paid, though she was noticeably upset until she admitted to me that she thought she heard the receptionist say the order was $21, but upon looking at the receipt it was $221! For a procedure they said was a /gift/? They deceived us for an extreme upcharge that they claimed was a gift. I did not use the products and my daughter called to ask about a return policy. They said they would accept it for 10% of the purchase price. They also informed us that, while the items were medically necessary, we did not have to buy them--which is extremely sketchy language, in my opinion. This was certainly a case of being fooled twice, but the levels of deception, rushing, and poor organization we experienced here were completely unacceptable. I understand the target market for this sort of company involves upper-class people, but it seems as though they forgot about people like me who save all year for a simple procedure and can barely afford another surprise $200. read more

Just an update, I finally got a hold of the owner/manager and I explained to her what happened and why I didn't feel comfortable and why I was canceling my future appointments. My review is specific to how terrible their scheduling is. My husband and I have been trying to schedule appointments and I am not sure if it is because we have a Groupon that the scheduling has been so poorly handled/disorganized or if this is how the business opperates. Their website doesn't match their availability when you call in and they seem to have issues scheduling appointments. When we first called to schedule, the gentleman, so kind, but kept making mistakes (mixing my husband and I up on when we want to schedule, then scheduled wrong day after we picked a certain day). This place is honestly terrible. I've given it 2 tries, once for botox (was decent but weird experience) and then I tried for filler. I'll explain each experience and hopefully the manager, who is the older man that walks around with his nose in the air, doesn't reply defensively like he has to others in the reviews. Dude, take the criticism and IMPROVE. Stop blaming customers. Anyways.. 1. Botox- I scheduled this to be in the evening and they spent maybe 5 minutes with me. This was only my 2nd time getting Botox and there was no paperwork to fill out and no discussion. I had a Groupon and had to make sure she was only using the 20 units. Then the nurse (?) pointed out other lines on my face without me asking- that is the biggest red flag for a bad medspa. The injections also hurt which they normally don't. She was rough. Results were fine though. 2. Filler- this was in december 2020..so more recent. I had a different nurse than who did my Botox. I think her name was Gaby. She didn't have great bedside manner and got clearly nervous when I mentioned sometimes feeling light headed with injections (which is normal? and nurses usually remind me of it being normal and give helpful feedback...). The injecting took a long time and she was really rough. My bruising was terrible. I've had lip filler a few times & this was bad. No ice to take with me after either. I also didn't use the whole syringe and she said they can only keep it for about 20 days. That's a lie.. they can last up to 6 months if stored properly. Didn't matter though since I knew I didn't want to return to this med spa ever again. Checking out was the WEIRDEST and most uncomfortable experience. I used a Groupon and the owner (assuming?)-who is the older man in the office-TOOK MY CELL PHONE INTO ANOTHER ROOM. I was trying to show my voucher and he literally TOOK IT and then walked away. The nurse apologized so quietly to me because she probably realized it was weird. When he handed it back to me I basically ran out of there. That's my personal phone? You don't just TAKE and WALK AWAY into other rooms with people's private things??? I go to SpaDerma now and love it. They have a rewards program and wonderful nurses in lakeview, Lincoln park, and a few other locations. I also had a wonderful experience and Gold Coast med spa, but it's much pricier than spaderma. Most unfortunate waste of my money, time, and energy was spent trying Botox for the first time with a Groupon that I purchased. Many friends had suggested Botox and said that they loved it apparently they did not come here. At my first visit they assured me that within 4 to 6 weeks I would see results after six weeks. I requested to follow up as I saw no results. I saw a different person at that time, and they held up an iPad and a mirror and tried pointing out invisible differences that were not obvious to me. That was it. There was no follow-up. No consultation. No customer service provided concerning my lack of results and dissatisfaction. I generally enjoy providing very high reviews for services as I prefer recommending a business. In this case I just cannot give it my five star. It's tops at two stars. I got 20 units of Botox with Elena and she was sweet! She seemed knowledgeable and made the injections easy for me even though I'm afraid of needles. If this review were for her only, it'd be 5 stars. Their customer service on the other hand is pretty bad. When I paid for my service I asked for a menu/price list of their other injectables and spa services. They refused, were vague, and signed me up for a rewards program which also has ZERO information on prices and what they offer. They said they'd send me more info on how it works but never did. I wanted to be a repeat customer (I'm looking into fillers, kybella, and maybe a few other things on my face), but how am I supposed to consider them or their services if they won't even tell me the bare minimum like what they have and what they charge for it? I called again today to ask for a menu/price list because I wanna be able to see everything, compare costs of different options (I'm considering a bunch of different things and am trying to decide what to get). Injectables and cosmetic services are expensive so I also need to know ahead of time what costs are so I can save up. The person I spoke to was rude, vague, and accused me of being a competitor when I asked for a price list which was weird and rude. She said she'd only give me specific prices for specific things I asked about or booked an appointment for. I told her I'm not yet sure which ones I want, so she didn't give me anything. She then asked if I wanted to book an appointment? Any other business you go to- spa, restaurant, nail salon, anything- they have MENUS WITH PRICES so you can see all your options. I have no idea why they're so difficult about their menu, but it's weird and has been a terrible customer service experience. ***They DO NOT honor their Groupon prices or promises/guarantees. Read my experience for details*** My experience with this spa wasn't good at all. I found a Groupon for laser hair removal and decided to contact them before purchasing it. I spoke to Kelsey "the manager" first, who assured me that they'd match the groupon and referred me to talk to Joslyn (who's no longer there) for my consultation. I explained to them that I would need Saturday appts, because I don't drive and I have a 3-year old, so I rely on my husband to drive me and watch our kid during my appointments. I was paired with Joslyn and was assured that they'd accommodate my schedule. More importantly, I made sure to ask them (more than once over FB, email, AND TEXT) that if I needed additional sessions that they'd match the Groupon. I still have the messages that prove that they had promised to price match the Groupon, should I need additional sessions so that I don't buy another voucher from Groupon (the voucher limit was 2 per customer). So, I went ahead and purchased only 1 voucher and was very excited about receiving my sessions, after all the details and guarantees that were given to me about seeing results right away. Well, 9 sessions later and I can honestly tell you that my experience went from good to bad to worse every month. Not only did they NOT honor their promise, but I didn't get the results from their laser hair removal. First, Joslyn left just after 2 sessions so I got paired with Larissa. Larissa was a great laser tech expert and I don't blame her at all for the poor results or experience I had, because she was very knowledgeable and she took her time with me, covering all the spots. I believe the machine that they use is NOT a strong laser. It's an IPL machine that has multiple functions FYI. And I am a perfect candidate for laser hair removal (I have very fair skin with dark hair). Larissa, doesn't work on Saturdays and that by itself was a major hassle for me, because now my husband had to leave work early every month to make it to my appointments there and it's a 1-hour drive for us. To make matters worse, they rarely had appointments after 4 and always asked me to come early, even though they knew all about my circumstances and the trouble they were putting me through by not sticking with my schedule (as promised). They even once randomly scheduled me with someone else and I had to reschedule as it's not advisable to keep switching between different techs. But considering their unprofessionalism they didn't really care. And even then, I still ALWAYS came on time, and sometimes managed to come in earlier at their request. So instead of accommodating me, it was the other way around (so much for good customer service). After my 6 sessions were done, Larissa explained that I would need at least 3 more. So, when I reminded them about their promise to price match my groupon, they acted like they didn't know anything about that and Kelsey came up and said, "Oh, well that Groupon offer expired." I was like, "Yeah, but I was promised that you would honor the price if I needed more sessions, as you and Joslyn assured me and I still have the messages." She actually asked me to pull them up (insinuating that I was lying) and after I showed her the messages from Joslyn she turned all sour and was like, "Okay I could do that as a one-time thing but I can't risk my job blah blah!" Umm, excuse me, had I known you were not going to honor the groupon I wouldn't have bought it in the first place, nor came to your spa! They weren't honest or straightforward with me from the start and they ended up charging me the same price for 3-sessions only. At that point, I no longer wanted to go there anymore but considering I only needed 3 more sessions to see the results I got stuck with them. Needless to say, 9 sessions later and my hair has only reduced to about 40 percent. It was a total waste of time and money for me and I DON'T recommend them for laser hair removal. Injections that didn't last very long whatsoever. (Like the type that are usually supposed to last at least 6 months)..... I bought a Groupon for Botox at Pure Med Spa. I have worked at 3 different med spas myself and am very familiar with legal and safe procedures and protocols. Pure med spa was a disaster. I was very close to walking out but the woman was already diving in (although I was noticeable hesitant). Here are my concerns: -They did not have me fill out ANY medical paperwork. -The nurse (?) didn't even tell me her name or display her licensure. -No scrubs were worn, no gloves were worn. -She did not sanitize her hands before working on me. -She had her mask under her nose (A supposed medical professional). -She interrupted me any time that I started talking. No bedside manner. -She didn't draw the Botox out of a vile, it was just in syringes laying on a table in the hallway--I'd like to know what you are injecting into my face. Furthermore, Botox needs to be refrigerated per Allergan, the manufacturer. -No aftercare instructions were given--I've never had a Botox appointment where the nurse doesn't go over the things you are not to do after injections. -No one walked me to the front desk, no one said goodbye. No customer service (the least of my worries). I would LIKE a refund, and feel that I deserve one. But if nothing else, I wish that this med spa would be removed from Groupon or required to provide necessary legal documentation of a Medical Director on staff who is overseeing and approving this train wreck. read more

I have had Botox many times, primarily from my dermatologist. My first experience resulted in sagging eyelids and brows, so I have always made a point to share that outcome so providers don't inject that muscle that causes the droop. I explained this to my technician, and I was assured it wouldn't happen. I was also told that I needed 48 units vs. the 20 I had paid for. Despite my concerns with the extraordinary amount, I proceeded. Since, my left eyebrow is lower than my right, my eyelids are sagging to a point of distraction, and I have a lump in between my brows. I fully believe that I was wrongfully upsold, and the technician was in a hurry to get more people in her chair. Very disappointing. And suspicious business that everyone with a Groupon needs at least one more to get the job done. I will report to Groupon as well. read more

Upset customer!! I purchased a full syringe on Groupon and we agreed that we would only put half in to see and then later fill if need be. She injected the full syringe and didn't listen. This happened! Their response was that it would go down and it didn't. When I came in she said she would inject it with hyaluronic acid to dissolve the filler COVID happened. Went 2 months with my lip like this. After things opened up I came in 3 times to have it fixed with painful hyaluronic acid injection and ubered both ways. They gave me no refund, no credit. It was my first time getting my lips done. Everyone was really nice and made sure to make me comfortable, but I was very disappointed with my procedure. Spent over $400 for my lips to look the same after a month. It looked like as if I didn't even get them done. I was assured that it would last atleast 4 months or longer, and it DIDN'T! Made an appointment to come back and get them redone, but quickly cancelled it because what's the point of spending extra $400 if my lips are still not going to look like what I've imagined and will go back to normal in a matter of a few weeks. Another thing to point out, the needle was stuck in way too far in the corner of my lip and the juvederm traveled and build a bubble outside of my lip. It has been a week since my Botox injections and I could not be happier. I stopped into the facility of Pure Medical Spa as a walk-in and was greeted by the friendliest medical staff. Before entering the waiting room they ask you to wash your hands in a bathroom that is located outside of the office, take your temperature, and ask pre-questions to inquire about your health. I waited barely 10 minutes while Nurse Juan Carlos finished up with their patient before me. Being a walk-in. I was shocked to be seen so quickly. The injections were quick and as painless as possible. You will feel a few pinches, but Nurse Juan Carlos guided me through the entire procedure. Juan was also very thorough in explaining the aftercare of the Botox injections, possible side effects, and helped schedule a follow-up appointment 3 months later for another round of Botox injections. I have found my Botox family and I would recommend this facility a thousand times over. The price is fair. The location is easy to get to and located in downtown Chicago. The staff is quick, efficient, professional, and most importantly safe in these uncertain times. If you are thinking about getting Botox. Just do it with Pure Medical Spa. You won't be sorry.
