Thank you Yelp for helping me locate a sushi restaurant that stays open between lunch and dinner with good rating and good reviews. I'm in town for work and was craving some sushi and glad that I took a chance on this place even though it seemed out of my way. The staff greeted me as soon as I walked through the door and I was seated quickly. It just so happened that they were having happy hour specials (it was around 2:00 or so on a Thurs). I got the crispy rice spicy tuna, sunomono and the house special roll all at a discount due to the happy hour and everything tasted great! Tried Kay Sushi today, super convenient to where I live. It has a lovely outdoor patio with water fountain and bamboo, so pretty. Inside the decor is nice, different shades of green walls and one unobtrusive Tv, which is nice . Some places have so many tvs and the sound is so loud, but at Kay Sushi only my and the sound is muted.. They have a nice variety of rolls and a pretty extensive menu. A nice touch, they serve water with a side of lemons in a small wooden box, little details like this are so nice. I ordered the cucumbers and they weee deckuckus, cold and crunchy. My lunch date ordered got miso soup with his order and it was served which kept the soup piping hot, it also had sliced mushrooms along with the seaweed. We ordered a variety's of rolls and they were quite good. The staff is really nice and attentive. The dress I wore was a slippery materiel and my napkin on my lap slipped onto the floor, the server noticed this and quickly brought me a new napkins. So thoughtful and I didn't even ask for one. We ordered takeout here for the first time as I was craving udon and Hiro Sushi was closed for renovations. Their version of udon was not as expected and I was disappointed but the noodles were good. The sushi rolls were nice and had fresh ingredients but the vinegary taste was missing from the sushi rice. Service was EXCELLENT! I have shellfish allergies and always make sure that this is noted in my order. Someone from the restaurant called me and discouraged me from a the vegetable tempura and tonkatsu orders that I placed as the batter and oil used are the same as what is used for tempura shrimps. Kay sushi has beautify dining room with separate drink bar and sushi bar. Hubby was in the mood for noodles so we ordered Nabeyaki udon. The picture doesn't show all the seafood included in this dish. It had large prawn, large scallop, lots of shrimps and squid. The broth was good but tad bit bland. The lunch combo unagi bowl and tempra was really good. Nice crispy veggies and prawns were tasty. The unagi bowl only had 3 pieces of unagi; wish it had more. Victory Sushi My boyfriend and I went here to celebrate a promotion I received and sushi is always my favorite way to party! We started off with the pork gyoza which were fresh from the pan and they came with a unique sweet and sour sauce. It was joy like the traditional sweet and sour but it had more of a tangy flavor then sour. Next I got my absolute favorite dish which is yellowtail jalapeño in yuzu sauce. The fish was fresh and the sauce was light and citrusy. For the main courses I got the ahi tuna takai roll and my boyfriend got teriyaki chicken and Philadelphia rolls ( he is still learning to get use to sushi!) My roll had seared tuna on top and spicy tuna in the middle, so delicious! For dessert our waiter Brooke, recommend their crispy green tea waffle. THIS WAS ONE OF THE BEST WAFFLES OF MY LIFE! It literally was right out of the waffle iron and on to the plate. They put Carmel sauce on top of it and served it with vanilla ice cream. The matcha was not overpowering but the flavor was strong. If you took a bit of the waffle with the ice cream was pure bliss. Can't wait to go back and try other rolls and of course get another waffle! read more

Went here yesterday for a late lunch. Sat down immediately as there were several other people there, but it was a gap between lunch and dinner. The place was quiet, so we could have a conversation without yelling. The restaurant was also super open, so we had our own space and did not feel crowded. We ordered drinks quickly and put in our food order as well. We shared everything. First was the house salad which was enough for three or four people. It had an awesome sesame dressing on it with avocado, pears, and cucumbers.For the rest of the meal, we got the pork katsu, One More Time roll, and the Ahi Tuna Tataki roll. All of them were so good! The pork katsu may have been the crispy, most delicious I have ever had! The rolls were spicy and tasty! We left stuffed and happy! My friend and I haven't been to this location is a very long time, we've gone to the Desert Ridge location, but has since closed. We stopped by for lunch because we were in this area and had Nori gift cards to use up. We sat at the sushi bar, we noted there was hand sanitizer at each dining spot. our server and 2 out of 3 employees wearing their masks correctly. One of the sushi chefs was wearing below the nose while prepping. We ordered Yellow Tail, Salmon, Tuna and Eel Sushi... nothing spectacular. Presentation zero, no ginger, wasabi, or decoration. We got our first order fairly fast and then ordered more. I don't know what happened but we waited and waited, hardly any customers in the restaurant. Maybe the sushi chefs were spending too much time arguing in front of us and the few customers around us on, who was prepping and who was filling the tickets. Great sushi, not so great customer service. We dined here for my friends birthday tonight and unfortunately one of our rolls had plastic in it. The manager said it was from them wrapping the roll but it wasn't Saran Wrap. It was very thick, while telling her she walked away in mid sentence. The waiter was really nice and he said he would take the roll off and our appetizer but he took off the cheap roll and so it wasn't what they offered to us knowing what roll it was. So it just felt like they were being cheap about it. All of the rolls were delicious especially the baked lobster roll. The pork katsu was super moist and not dry like most places. In the North Scottsdale area for a soccer tournament on a Friday evening, I had my daughter solo for dinner. Since we both love sushi, I quickly searched Yelp and saw that Kay Sushi: a) wasn't far from us and b) had an open reservation. I reserved us a spot for 7:15pm and we pulled up just in time. Kay Sushi offers a solid sushi menu as well as some other Thai offerings. It's a friendly, casual environment. There appeared to be outdoor seating in the back, but we didn't check it out. We sat inside and my daughter was pleased to see softball and volleyball on a nearby TV. This was good because service that evening was a bit on the slow side... I think they may be a bit short staffed or still figuring out the kinks. Even so, we enjoyed our sushi. My daughter had edamame and four cucumber rolls. I had a salmon skin hand roll, a soft shell crab roll, scallop nigiri, and ikura nigiri. I would return... but know going in that it may be a more leisurely meal just in case! read more

Nori Sushi is a combination of good food and good ambiance. Though it is located in a strip mall, Nori Sushi has a modern and refreshing feel. It is a place where you can be casually dressed or a place you can come to right after work while still in business attire. The menu has a ton of dishes to choose from. The sushi tastes fresh. All of the food is really tasty, and the presentation is on point. A few items stick out in my mind. The poke bowl has so much fish and is super filling. The udon is rich and satisfying. The omakase is a lot of food. The food is not cheap, but the happy hour and lunch specials are good deals that make a meal more affordable. Plus, the hours run pretty long for the specials. Happy hour is 2 to 7 P.M. while lunch is 11 A.M. to 3 P.M. There is also the Monday all-day special, which is half off of bottles of wines and sake. Seating is available either at a table or a sushi bar. I prefer sitting at the sushi bar since I like seeing my sushi being made. The service here is alright, but the sushi chefs are friendly and super welcoming. Lunch is not as busy as dinner, but I have not seen either to have been so busy that I needed to wait for a table. Came here twice in one week during a recent work trip. This place is conveniently inconvenient for most people, so when our other go-to's are cracking we know we'll be able to waltz right in here and get a seat. Service is gracious and the decor is much nicer than you'd expect from what is essentially a suburban strip mall hole-in-the-wall. The rolls are excellent, and I got the Poki Bowl ($15) twice. It's like a combo of poke and a chirashi bowl - very fresh & light without leaving you hungry. The nebayaki Udon is a pretty intense undertaking - ours had a giant pregnant prawn in it that exploded eggs all over the place and kind of harshed my chill the rest of our visit, but how can you blame that on anybody. If you're craving real Japanese and have some time to kill, consider a drive out here and relax awhile with some tea/sake and rolls. They cater to large parties, singles pulling up to the bar, and couples having more intimate date nights - the various sections of the restaurant are walled off to create different vibes. This is a 3.5-4.0 star review. The quality was decent and the main sushi chef did a fabulous job telling us what was fresh, what was not and what was unavailable. Service from the sushi chef was great! Some of the sushi was sub par in my opinion. The salmon belly was definitely salmon belly, but lacked the real distinct flavor that the belly meat should produce. Same for the yellowtail. Big surprises were the scallops, Ebi and Uni which were all fantastic. The Udon Soup was disappointing. Flavorless and the noodles were not great. Some of the waiters in the restaurant were helpful, but not genuinely thankful that we came to visit their restaurant. I don't quite know how to explain that, but the welcoming factor was not great if that makes sense. Prices were very, very reasonable for the quality. We ate everything we normally would eat when expecting a $200 bill and our bill was just over $100. We live in AZ but just visiting Scottsdale. I'm not sure if I'd ever go back. I have mixed feeling about our experience. If I was in the area again and didn't want to spend a bunch of money I guess....MAYBE. read more

I asked for a fork and watched the manager pull a fork out of the holder by the tongs, wipe it with a cloth and hand it to me. This is the same manager handling many other things to include busing the eating area and after people left. Completely unsanitary and I left without finishing my appetizers.
