(And a little backstory, she's not that into sushi) First by walking in the lighting was perfect and was met with a smile and friendly face! to start with the service it was impeccable really, it took me some time to choose what i'd like between the Arizona Roll and the H3 roll, i'm a spice fan so i went with the H3! (refer to photos below) my lady chose the Sex and the City roll, and i can tell you now the crunch along with the Eel sauce was delicious! i can tell you most about the few appetizers and the H3 roll, i've never had sushi like this before the H3 came with some fish eggs on top and it was really pleasing to the eye. it looked new, foreign and exotic the way everything popped (literally) we ordered: apps- Stuffed Jalepeno, Spring Rolls entree- H3 Roll, Sex and the City Roll she mentions it every other day and i think that's because we shared a nice time and a memory together shout out to the establishment, keep up the team work! -can't wait to come back read more

Stopped in an hour before close, as my friend and I were going to see a movie at Harkins right next store. We were promptly seated and given menus where you check which items you would like. Interior is very nice inside, with plenty of tables with a a little dim lighting, which we loved. Ordered our drinks, 'sake colada' was sweet while the 'matcha mojito' was refreshing! Our server was very friendly and attentive throughout the whole experience. As well as the rest of the staff who helped deliver our food & give us our togo boxes. Once we ordered, our food came out very quickly. The tempura was crispy, the gyoza were filled with delicious flavors, and the sushi was fresh! We especially loved the 'Phoenix roll,' it was packed with flavor! You can never go wrong with nigiri and they did not disappoint. The Chirashi was up to par just love the different types of raw fish, purple sushi rice topped with Furikake, and two types of roe: salmon and flying fish. What a sad meal. When I took my order out of the take out bag my food was delivered in, I could immediately tell that the salmon skin was going to be awful. It looked dry and bland and when I tried it, those ideas were confirmed. Some of the worst salmon skin I have ever had. The sashimi that I got (sampler & salmon) were fine, albeit a little bland. Kind of tasted like nothing. My hamachi collar was thick and juicy but something just tasted OFF with it. I kind of felt nauseated while eating it. I honestly don't believe it even was hamachi (I could be wrong but I have had so many hamachi collars in my life that I can tell the difference). Over all this experience sucked. And the worst part is that it was VERY pricy. I definitely feel like I threw away money however I'm on the hunt for my go-to sushi spot, so I guess I sort of "had to" try. read more

So happy this location opened near by! I enjoyed a cup of miso soup before the sushi rolls. My mom and I ordered the Havana roll (this one is spicy I was taken back by the kick), blue ocean roll, albacore roll, and a salmon avocado roll. I love that their rice is purple. This place is probably my favorite sushi restaurant. I often tell people I found the best sushi and it's in the desert! Every time we visit our son in Phoenix we make a trip here. We've eaten at both this location and the Scottsdale one. Both restaurants have great, fresh sushi and fantastic service. Unfortunately, we eat the sushi so quickly I keep forgetting to take pictures, so don't have many. But two items we really like and get every time: the Ahi Tower and Salmon.com. Both are fantastic, really, really good. But, if you just get some of the basics, like a Rainbow or California roll, those are awesome as well. One thing we really like is the purple rice they use - just gives a unique twist. And again on the servers, very friendly, attentive, and quick. Whether it's taking sushi orders, clearing plates, or refilling water, they are on it. Again, really my favorite (or for sure top 2 or 3) sushi restaurant and always a must visit for us. We tried three different rolls, the squid salad and the miso soup. Everything was excellent. The sushi was melt in your mouth quality. The rolls were tight and full of goodness- very minimal rice. We were provided a gift if spicy tuna that was awesome - tender, flavorful and beautifully presented. The staff was gracious and quick. There were three people rolling and plenty of servers. The menu are complete write in like ordering sushi. I also tried the Appletini which was very good with a very nice aroma of green apple. There is a full regular bar, a sit down sushi bar, and a dining area. The hosted greeted us with a smile and we were permitted to choose our seat. We will be back. The next strange thing, was our Sushi order came out super fast.. like way too fast! All at once! I'm assuming they must pre make the rolls and have them ready to go... in fact, that's my next mention of disappointment, they did not taste fresh, definitely reminded me of the rolls you get in the grocery store. Could not have been more disappointed. I walked in to place a to-go order and was there for about 10 min before my order was taken which didn't bother me too much but then it took 50 min for me to get my order! We saw people walk-in, get drinks, an appetizer, their meal, pay and leave before we received our to-go order. We only ordered 4 basic sushi rolls and gyoza. This Kodo just opened up and it's officially a weekly spot for us, after tonight. All the rolls are made in this purple rice that's really good. The sushi chefs are surprisingly fast. The rolls are both delicious and not nearly as pricy as I'd expected. The service was air-tight too. We were in the mood for sushi and since we were on vacation and in an area we weren't familiar with, we ran to Yelp! Kodo came up with great reviews, so away we went. And thank G-d we did. As I mentioned above, phenomenal! The place was empty (remember, it was after 8pm on a Wednesday night). There were a few servers tending to us which we figured was a joint effort or maybe they were bored. However, they were all very helpful in giving us suggestions for what we might like. You order off a sheet showing how many rolls you want, you can strikethrough ingredients, etc. My wife is not super adventurous, she ordered a couple spicy tuna rolls. It's nothing against her as I only get shrimp. I'm not a fan of fish, so shrimp I could do. However, they have all these fancy shrimp rolls with crab meat. (yuck!) or avocado (blech!); I'm looking for basic. I stumble upon the Super Crunch Shrimp Roll and remove the avocado and crab salad. It was awesome! I also got the Shrimp Tempura roll, again removing the stuff I don't like and it too was great. I then ordered other things. I got the spicy edamame which was just meh and not worth ordering, just get the regular edamame. My son, however, is the adventurous one. I don't know when that started, but he went to town. All my vacation money was spent at Kodo. He got the spicy tuna roll, the Blue Ocean roll, the H3 roll, the Havana roll, and the Chewbacca roll. He then ate what was left of my wife's spicy tuna, and polished off the spicy edamame. Everything was so good. And each server gave us their opinion on what to order. We had a great meal! read more
