For my 60th Birthday, first we went to The Escape Key escape room in Provo, then we went to eat at The Purple Turtle and to talk about what a riot we had! A more perfect Birthday couldn't be had!!! Went there just to try it out. Got the deluxe cheese burger and it was just a good burger, nothing impressive. Also got the chicken tenders and they were way over priced and not very great. The tater tots and fries were equivalent to the ones I had in my cafeteria in elementary school. I also got a kids sized brownie shake and it was definitely not worth what I paid. Ate here on a whim when I was working out of town. Met a couple of former missionaries from our ward here (they live in this Pleasant Grove area now.) I wasn't sure of the place when I walked in. Looked very typical/fast-food...a cross between Culver's and McDonald's. But I was pleasantly surprised! Very good food. They're open late (later than other establishments in the area on a Thursday,) and the staff there was REALLY friendly. They didn't have any shrimp, so that was kind of a bummer...but we were eating at 8pm - so maybe they had a run on their shrimp that day. Guess that speaks to how good it would have been! I had chicken tenders and one piece of haddock. It was all SO good. They have a good selection of refillable drinks. The "Pink Sauce" isn't too proprietary, but it was mixed really good! Great for dipping your fries or anything else in. My friends who met me ate their burgers in a flash (they're that good apparently.) The noise level wasn't bad. I've been to this place up and down the country and back and forth and though they all have different names, I can tell you exactly what kind of place it is. This is small-town burger joint, which means that it's good (enough?) for the area, but not competition for any sort of vibrant food scene, typically around population centers. The locals throng in to buy the local football team some burger combos if they win and gather to commiserate, if not. Families come here when they want to "eat out", etc. etc. I won't ever be there at night to find out, but this wouldn't surprise me if it's a local teen hangout. It's fine for all of that. Indeed, if there is any "small town" place left along the I-15 corridor from Ogden to Springville, it's probably Pleasant Grove, that doggedly insists on rejecting the sweeping "progress" changes experienced by its neighbors American Fork and Lindon. In another way, this really reminds me of the Iceberg chain, with a heavy, heavy preponderance on shakes and little regard for the food. I will never likely be there at a time when I want a shake, so I probably won't be able to confirm that. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing; they seem very proud of their fish (especially from a price point - yowza!), but the listing for the restaurant here is for burgers, so I'm going to presume that's what brought them to the table. As to those burgers, instead of grilled jalapenos on the jalapeno burger, as listed, there was basically just those pickled jobbies. Little flavor and less heat. Pepper jack cheese was not noticeable because of whatever dreadful sauce they used to soak the lettuce on the bun heel. I had to toss most of it. Burger flavor on that flabby slab is nearly entirely absent (this doesn't seem like a quarter pound patty, either) and the bacon gets entirely lost as well. I've had worse, sure, but then we get into damning the place with faint praise. The sweet potato fries were good and they did have a passable Coke Zero mix on the fountain, so points there. The place is also very nicely decorated and inside is extremely clean, far cleaner than I would have expected and definitely cleaner than many of those other small-town burger joints I've wandered into...but I never went to the old place and part of that may be due to newness. After a while of driving by and not stopping in, I did and now that's done and it's doubtful it will be repeated. read more

Ahh the Purple Turtle. This place takes me back. Not only is it a landmark and perfect point of reference when giving directions (turn left at the PT, turn right at the PT, etc.), but they make great shakes and fries. And their fry sauce is arguably the best in town--I'm pretty sure they use fresh onions in it. Stopped in for a quick snacky-poo Whipped up a bomb Banana & Peanut Butter creation that paired quite nicely with the hot salty fries (always a winning combo if you ask me). Purple Turtle, the best dive in PG! Awesome sherbet ice cream cones and a fantastic number of shake flavors. When I was a teen there used to be a Purple Turtle just north of ZCMI (Macy's now) in the University Mall. Although, it wasn't nearly as good as the one in PG. They've got freakin' awesome tater tots, ok burgers and good fry sauce. Only Parker's in AF does fry sauce better. As Utah is known nationwide for its fry sauce (most often with a "What the hell is fry sauce?!"), that is high praise indeed! One of my favorite menu items has been the Fish sandwich. Over the years it's gotten smaller but then hasn't everything? The bun it comes on is awesome!! It's completely covered with sesame seeds. I've never seen anything quite like it. Completely, as in there is no space to see the bun between the seeds-completely... It's pretty damn cool!! Strangely enough, they give the sandwich a squirt of ketchup to go with the very tasty tater sauce. Different but it really works out in this instance!! The dining room is often a bit cluttered and a bit grimy. Never anything to worry about, just to be expected when you're a hit with the High School crowd... The only reason why they're not getting five stars is because of their fish and chips(yes I realized I was in Utah but well, wishfull thinking.) I ordered their three piece halibut for $8.99 and received three pieces of hot dog shaped fish no bigger than the kind you get in the frozen food aisle. With some trepidation I took a bite and it was very dry and chewy. Disappointed I took a bite off my childrens cheeseburger (delicious) and with over 20 flavors of milkshakes like rocky road, you really can't go wrong with this place. While the Purple Turtle has been a landmark location for your shake needs, it does leave something to be required when it comes to the food. As underwhelming as the burgers are they sure do squeeze you for every last penny. With a large combo costing a whopping $6.18 not including the price of the burger on it's own at $5.89. Come for a shake and maybe just skip that as well. And if a local tells you it's their favorite, well the long time lack of competition may just have something to do with that. read more

It really makes no sense to me for you to advertise all day on Facebook and then when we come to have some food for dinner you are not staffed. We stood outside in a long line while one young new girl was trying to take everyone's orders. She was slow and not trained, had to keep asking for help while we all waited. Several customers left the line because of the long wait. We finally ordered a 5pc Fish and 5pc Shrimp. The food was really fresh and good but our total time in line and to get our food was ridiculous. There were several team members behind the counter that could have been taking orders and helping out. I like what you have done with the restaurant but some serious training needs to be done with your employees. We spent a lot of money and the experience was terrible. read more

Sorry to say but our family's first visit to this joint confirmed what I have long suspected, it can't be the food that brings locals to this place, it must be the fact that it's one of a few burger places in town and people have nostalgic memories of coming here for generations. The food was overpriced and boring. Actually it was nostalgic for me as well, it took me back to jr high school lunch. Greasy tater tots, and nasty fry sauce. The onion rings were warm and seemed Like they had been under a heating lamp too long. I had a cheap replica of a pastrami burger (crown burger destroys this counterfeit attempt). The pastrami was thick and tough almost like a soft beef jerky. If you're in the area you can take your chances, it may have just been a bad night to come, or I would suggest going to chubby's cafe down the road. Cute, home towny, tasty, overpriced, needs larger beef patties and slices of cheese, tons of milkshake flavors. I'll be back if I'm in the area, but won't be coming here specifically for it. I would give 4 stars if the prices were more competitive. I ordered the jalapeño burger. The burger was really thin, lean, and tasted good. The bun seemed almost like a deli bun, pretty good. It had pepper jack cheese, but so little that I had trouble tasting it. Bacon was nice and crispy. Good, but a bit overpriced at $6.14 with tax. Purple Turtle has a great home town feel to it. Very cool looking turtle mascot too. There are several cute and well done water color paintings of the turtle inside. It would be fun if they had Purple Turtle stickers and coloring books for the customers. I bet it would raise sales with the kiddos wanting to visit more often. Several types of burgers available. Some had ham or pastrami on them. LOTS of different yummy milkshakes available. The tables have a monthly pamphlet with interesting things to read, cool stuff. I have only gotten the Jalapeño burger from here several times and it has been on point and scrumptious. Their old shoestring style fries were better than these new over seasoned ones, however they are cooked proper and fresh without fail. Definitely recommend and will be visiting again read more

My wife and I stopped in at Purple Turtle today for the 1st time after hearing from tons of friends that we need to try this place. We came at 5:30, it was not very busy, but soon became packed. This is a family business run correctly! We originally went through drive-through, Which the store is under construction currently and it was a bit of a mess. Unfortunately the lady at the window forgot to give us our shakes that we had ordered, so we parked and went inside. Im glad we did! The inside of the restaurant was very clean. I was actually very impressed by the cleanliness and professionalism of the staff. They got our shakes to us very quickly apologized for the mishap, And we sat down to eat our food.We ordered the mile high Burger, the Western Viking Burger, an eggnog shake and a fudge brownie shake. The shakes were very tasty, the quality of ice cream and flavor of the egg nog was exquisite. The fudge brownie, on the other hand, I wish the toppings inside were increased, as it seemed a little sparce. I would give the shakes a 4/5. The sauce on the Western Viking Burger was so tangy and delicious! By far my favorite thing tonight. The portion was a little larger than typical so come hungry and leave happy :) 5/5 The mile high burger did not Meet my expectations, after hearing the hype about this Burger from a lot of friends I was very excited to try it. When I first un wrapped and bit into the Burger, grease from the patty actually went down my hand and arm, That was a turn off. The fries that came with the halibut was nothing really special. No spices or anything on them, they were just bland. The halibut quality I would rate at 4.5/5, and the fries I would rate at a 3/5. This place has a 3 star rating which scared us, but we thought it was pretty good!! I went with a 7 person group and we all ordered burgers and thought they were great! I particularly enjoyed the fresh lemons and limes and the vanilla and cherry syrup you can add to your fountain drink. So this place is a hell of a grease pit, but for me no trip to Utah is complete without visiting The Purple Turtle. The menu consists of a whole bunch of mediocre fried food (always a little bit better with the fry sauce) and a ridiculously large milkshake menu, I counted 57 varieties last time I was there and I'm sure you could mix them up to make some great combinations.
