This location was absolutely insane. We ordered 2 shakes, and then sat and waited for them to be brought out, and as we were waiting, a couple more groups sat at tables around. After each of the tables (which came in after us) had been served, I flagged down one of the employees to ask for an update on our shakes before he could go to the back and goof off again (I made eye contact with multiple employees just goofing off), because it had been 40 minutes by that point. Maybe it's because I grew up in PG that I am forever loyal to the P.T. but I love it. Maybe it's the tater gems or the shakes but I'm thinking it's the sandwiches! I love their chicken supreme sandwich like a family member. Everytime I'm in town I get one with the beloved gems. You can get it with ham or bacon, and it's good either way. On one trip, the cashier almost blew my mind when I ordered two foot longs and he asked what I wanted on it. I asked for what the options were and he said pretty much anything on the menu. How can you not love a place that gives you this kind of freedom? You better believe I had a bacon cheese dog with jalepenos that night. I love that they serve your food in a box, in a bag which to me is a way more convenient way to eat it than having to dig through a bag for what you want. I came here for an oreo milkshake, and loved how smooth it was. I got the smallest size and thought that was the perfect serving size. The downside is that they didn't fully mix my milkshake all the way through the cup so I had to mix it myself, so it wasn't as well mixed. read more

I got the halibut. It tasted like a corn dog with fish. I had such hope for some good fish and chips just to be rather disappointed.

Not gonna lie, I was a little hesitant going into the experience, but I've never had a shake with more cookie dough chunks in it, which is a huge deal to me!! Purple Turtle Lunchtime in the office! The normal crew of 5-8 guys was down to just 3 of us today, as we lost a couple dudes to their extended holiday weekend. My boy Dolla suggests Purple Turtle and since he drives a Tesla and has grey in his beard nobody disagreed. So we head to Purple Turtle, conveniently located on State Rd in PG, across the street from an inexplicably depressing plaza that will dominate your view if you eat outside like we did. Evidently the Purple Turtle is something of a local staple. As someone that wasn't raised in this area I hadn't heard of it, but recognized the building when we rolled up with the Turtle pics/stickers, purple beams and accents. Our cashier, his name may have been Steve, was pleasant, knowledgeable and much older than the expected 16-19 year olds I'm used to. I was amused and transfixed by the amount of chest hair this helpful man had curling from his shirt collar. Reminded me of my uncle. I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich, tots (which are called Tater Gems here but I can't say that with a straight face) and a drink. The sandwich was not spicy. It was fine though! The tots left much to be desired and the fry sauce (they call this 'pink sauce' here) was far too runny and not very tasty. I spent $9.84 and the food was conveniently brought out to our table by a VERY polite woman. I wish I had caught her name, she was wonderful! Seems like a place locals would go for nostalgia's sake and because it's there, not necessarily because the food is great. I have recently rediscovered purple turtle! My grandparents use to take me for fish and chips every month. But I haven't been in YEARS!! They are still amazing and I'm obsessed with their chicky nuggs! And the crispy-ness of the fries! Heavenly!! My only complaint would be that sometimes I feel like the person on drive thru gets a little distracted with the orders or trying to multi task but doesn't do it very well. We've gone there multiple times (like 10) this month and our order has been wrong like 1/2 the time. There haven't been many cars so I know it's not hectic. So maybe a little more training could work to learn to multi task and not mess up orders. But other than that it's been great and I'm obviously addicted so it won't stop me! A very sweet home town restaurant! Their shakes are DIVINE, wish tons of flavors to choose from! I tried the eggnog shake which brought Christmas to your mouth, but I also tried the raspberry cheesecake and WOW those raspberries tasted fresh! The fried halibut was perfectly crisp! The tots or jewels were a little soggy, and the "pink sauce" or fry sauce was almost sour/tart. The toast was a nice aesthetic but there was no room in my tummy for that. I'd order it off next time. The prices are a bit over priced. We went through the drive through and waited a while "pulled forward." The staff were kind but all very young and not very patient. Lived in Lindon for 3 years and have driven by this place many times. Today my husband and friends decided to try it. STAY AWAY!!! Customer service was horrible and the kids working moved at a snails pace. My husband and I tried the jr. cheeseburger and the chicken strip meal as well as a shake. I passed by this quirky building for years and never gave it a chance. But then I moved in right down the street so I thought, hey, I need to take a shot at it. And I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Purple Turtle. The burgers are good, and I love their chicken strips...which are enormous...and I wish I knew how big they were the first time when I ordered 5. I could easily have down with 2, as they're pretty much the size of a full chicken breast. The shakes are good and the sides are great if you like some good fried food (who doesn't). They've got English-style chips, amazing crinkle cut sweet potato fries, and the tots and onion rings are also great. I only wish they had more sauce variety for your dipping options. They have Utah's typical fry sauce, but it's kind of bland. Other than that, try out Purple Turtle if you'd like some good Drive-In style food. read more

I had heard that while traveling on the 15 through Utah, I should stop off south of Salt Lake at a place called Purple Turtle. It allegedly has a coat like following of people, and has been around forever. The usual burgers, shakes, fries, and soft drinks are augmented by fishing chips made of halibut. That was the story. And so, following on the advice of others, we drove around like idiots looking for the place, and towing a trailer through the little town of Pleasant Grove. When we finally found it, I suppose I was unimpressed. Still, some of the best food in SoCal comes from a really crappy looking buildings... So we went for it. I should be clear: I don't order halibut from anywhere. The only time I eat it, is when I catch it. Truth be told, I don't like frozen seafood in general.... Halibut has a way of getting fishy fast, and I wasn't going to risk it, especially with lots of road and relatively few restrooms between here and home. But I figured the burgers and fries were a safe bet, along with the Oreo cookie shake. In my opinion, they were nothing special; kind of soggy and a little short on flavor. Fries are fries, drown them in catchup and they're always edible. Oh well. I was kind of hoping we would find one of those hidden gems for future use. Purple Turtle is a staple. I have been coming here for shakes for years! For some reason, this was the first time I have had the hamburger. I ordered the Mile High with Bacon. The bun is perfect, it holds the shape and keeps things in the entire food session. This is a good burger and it leaves me wanting to try the other items on the menu. The fries come with a bit of a beer batter skin which is a plus and the fry sauce is unlike most around Utah. They have a secret they add and I have good sources that tell me its onions. Shakes are huge! The flavors are real and have actual chopped ingredients in the mix. Delicious. The only reason this is not a 5 star is the price for the burger. I've always loved purple turtle! Growing up we would go out of our way to come here and get a shake. They still sell great shakes, but I really love their double mile high burger with bacon!! I don't know what sauce they put on there, but it's amazing! An hour after eating there, and I'm still licking my lips!! This was my first time being there in a bit, and I was really impressed with how they remodeled it! Loved their soda fountain with 16 different sodas, and the interior looks amazing! The Purple Turtle. I can't remember exactly the first time I went here, but I remember going here once in college. I don't remember much about it--there was a fake Steve Young sighting--and I had taken some aspirin I got at work beforehand, only to find out later that it had serious caffeine in there too, so it's all a blur. As a grown up, I gotta show some love to the turtle. Small town burger joints are my fave, and this one is a landmark. Ask anyone from PG where something is, and they'll give you the reference point from the Purple Turtle. "About three blocks north of the Purple Turtle," or "the second right past the Purple Turtle." Fry sauce. Burgers. Sammiches. Yes, all of that. But really, when it's me you're talking to, it's gonna be about the shakes. Chocolate banana is the standard, that's what I get, and it's pretty darn tasty in the small town burger way. Not hand scooped, not artisan, but served up alongside a dish of tots and fry sauce. The shakes are on the thicker side, but not on the massive side. Portions are still generous, but not mind boggling. read more

Came here for milk shakes and their shakes are so awesomely thick! It's almost like ice cream, but just soft enough to be that nice in between. I got a chocolate chip peanut butter milk shake and it blew my taste buds to next week! What was crazy is the peanut butter was just subtle enough to taste it, but like in the perfect way! Purple Turtle is a weird one for me. I grew up in Pleasant Grove, where everyone knows what the Purple Turtle is. When I was a kid the only restaurants that I knew existed were Purple Turtle and Taco Amigo. When you gave directions to someone over the phone, turn right at the Purple Turtle was a key part in how to get to your home. While it is the iconic PG restaurant, it is only 3 to 3.5 star food. Every once in a while as I drive by I'll get the weird craving. Some sort of craving that can only be satisfied by mediocre burgers and tots or english chips. When that happens I try to fight it and then go through the PT drive through. The food isn't bad, it's just not that good either. Purple Turtle is always a visit of regret, but it does make the craving go away for a little while, and it's always nice to visit a place of childhood significance. They do have great fry sauce and decent shakes though. I would avoid the burgers though. read more

As iconic and nostalgic as Purple Turtle is, its is quite overpriced for the food you get. Food comes out timely, but the $6 burger you pay for is no better than a $2 burger. I got the amigo burger which was just a patty with some cheap bottled salsa on the patty, lettuce that went everywhere, and bun. I have had several other burgers there, and none of them are worth the price listed. The price of the burger should be the price of a combo with large tot and large drink, not the individual burger. My daughter got a regular cheese burger. Not worth the price again for the value of the food produced. The tots were good as was the dipping pink sauce or fry sauce. For $30, I got two burgers, two waters, a tot, a english chip, and a sundae. I'm sorry about beating up the PT for all of the PG alumni, but there is a reason Taco Amigo down the street is doing better business than you are. You need a menu adjustment and some business analysis completed on your operation. My family will be avoiding your restaurant in the future and was reminded why I had not been there in close to a decade. read more

Their sweet potato fries are amazing! Perfect if you pair it with their ranch dressing. It's really hard to get sweet potato fries to be crunchy on the outside and soft inside, but Purple Turtle has mastered that technique. Their burgers, onion rings and regular fries are pretty amazing as well. They use a big and soft bun for their burgers that is just the right amount of thick as to not get soggy. Their restaurant is a little dated in some aspects, but I personally like the unique and aged restaurant feel. Especially when their food is great quality. I think if they renovate a little, they could attract more customers. Maybe update their sign outside and even expand their inside seating area (the tables are quite slender and the space to sit between the bench and the table would make it impossible for a larger man to squeeze into). Their cashiers and workers could also put on a happier face to make the place more welcoming. Other than that this place is great! read more

Summary: halibut is "meh," English chips are yummy, and Oreo shake was creamy. This is our first time here after many moons of passing Purple Turtle and saying "we need to try that place." Well, today was the day. And I'm sad I can't give it more stars because of the established history of this restaurant. Halibut: thick coated and firm texture, but neither my husband nor I thought it tasted fresh. The tartar sauce that came with it was very relish-y which is good if you like relish, not good if you don't. English chips: think of these as battered French fry nuggets and that's basically what they are. They are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside--the perfect fried potato. The portion was generous. The fry sauce was pretty vinegar-y--not my fave. Oreo shake: big chunks of Oreo make me happy, and this shake delivered. Very creamy and appropriately sweet, I can see why the shakes seem to be the most reviewed thing here. Overall, I don't see myself coming back for the halibut, but could see myself craving the English chips. The shake was good, but I don't know if it's $4.00 worth of good when there are several other tasty shake places close by. read more
