My favorite instructors are Monica (certified yoga therapist!), Angie (excellent training on bondhas and individual adjustments), Elena, Kim, Sean, Paula L, and Asako. My first visit was amazing today! Took the 12pm Red50 class with Cosette Deza.....great teaching style & flow. Just my pace. I was able to concentrate on breathing & hold poses with the flow of the pace. Highly recommend & I'll be back! The environment is very calming from the moment you arrive and even while waiting for class to start. My work environment is extremely mentally stimulating & physically exhausting and need my yoga practice to slow me down from the minute I walk in the door. Mission accomplished. I loved this place for several reasons: 1. There is an app with all the class times, class descriptions, and a short bio for the instructors. I was able to sign up for classes through the app, and that made checking in really easy. 2. The showers are nice and clean with amenities such as shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. 3. I really wanted to love this studio. It's a beautiful space and the room actually gets super hot ! But. The instructors are terrible. I've tried 5 different people now and they either teach super awkward (and unsafe) transitions + poses, are hard to understand and talk constantly/break your focus. I signed up for the 2 week intro unlimited package for $29 back in February. Since then I was hooked. The red and green classes in a room 100 degrees helped me to get a deeper stretch. They also have international retreats which I went to Greece this past July. I was exposed to so many different things that it made me want to join the teacher training program that started at the beginning of August. I have to give credit and recognition to Alex Roberts, because the way he teaches and not only explains the postures so everyone can understand them, but makes the slightest corrections so you feel and experience what you are supposed to. I never really did yoga prior to February and with the welcoming staff and supporting culture that is very prevalent throughout both studios, Fullerton and Long Beach, I highly recommend this studio to anyone of any level wanting to practice yoga. read more

I like the new Purple Yoga space. It's pretty similar to the old one across the parking lot, but instead of having one big practice room, they now have two smaller ones allowing for more classes and workshops going on simultaneously. The old space has been converted into a spin studio called Purple Pedal. I'm excited to try it as I think Fullerton has been in need of spin classes outside of 24 Hour Fitness. The lobby is contemporary and they have cubbies for your shoes and pillows and benches to sit on while you wait. If you're in the shopping mood, they have a variety of clothes (mostly for women), props and more for purchase. All of the instructors are great, but I tend to take more of Alex Roberts' class whenever I can. Not only are his sequences awesome, his cues and adjustments are fantastic. He offers a variety of arm balancing workshops and advanced sequencing classes throughout the year that I'm going to have to jump on. Like the other studio, the locker rooms are clean and they offer showers for after class. Just make sure you bring your own towel, but if you forget, they have some that you can rent as well. They provide body wash, shampoo and conditioner, but I wish they would label them so you don't get confused on which is which. Make sure to sign up for their e-mail newsletters as they tend to offer specials from time to time. If you're not into buying packages, their Community Classes are under $10 and you get a full class. Just watch the color level as it indicates the heat level and how hard the class is going to be. Hot yoga was never really my thing until a few years ago when I started coming here. All of the classes I've had a chance to take have been great and the instructors encourage you to go at your own pace and to rest when you need to. If it's your first time taking on the heat, I'd recommend coming here as you'll feel supported and nobody will ever push you beyond your limits! Because it's in Fullerton, there is plenty of parking, but if you're taking a class on a Friday night, be prepared to circle the lots for a spot. My suggestion is to find street parking off of Commonwealth and take a short walk to the studio. Much easier than stalking someone for their space and stressing out about being late to class. read more

I'm a newbie to yoga. I got a bit of a late start to my new year's resolution and signed up for the introductory 2 week special for $29 (unlimited yoga and pedal classes for 2 weeks). I'm so happy I made this "investment"! All instructors are so friendly and welcoming. I'm still struggling a bit becomes I'm new to yoga, but there's never any shame. All the instructors are very helpful and patient, and always make you feel like you're doing an awesome job even if you're all over the place (of course, they'll come by and help your poses). The Purple Yoga app is great--I think I like it better than the website. It's so easy to sign up (and cancel) for classes. Towels and mats can be rented for $3. A towel is absolutely necessary--you'll be dripping in sweat after any of the red or green classes in the hotter room. I like those classes better because they're in a larger room with mirrors. The bathrooms are a bit small but they're equipped with some lockers and showers. It can get really crowded after class. Just a warning, Mondays at 10:30 are the busiest, at least to me, so get to class at least 10 minutes early to grab a good spot. I also tried the pedal classes, which are fun but super intense; I literally puked after one class because I'm so out of shape! If it's your first time, it's best to get there early and ask for help getting set up on your bicycle. read more

He was just strait up rude and had a nasty attitude when I asked about pricing, he gave me a vibe that he thought he was better than everyone else. -.-"... I think the best instructor here is Alex he's so kind and full of energy :) so they deserve one star for that .. One of the Caucasian lady (not trying to be racist I just don't know her name, she was middle aged) was really rude to me when I just wanted to buy water .. I canceled my membership within a month but I had to pay for two since it's a minimum requirement. *sigh* what a waste of money. I'd avoid this place at all costs. This place is so wonderful, I wish I could come much more often. The studio itself is welcoming, modern, clean and makes for a therapeutic environment right off the bat. My class with Alex was outstanding. I have been doing yoga for just about a year, so I know the basics but by no means do I consider myself an expert nor even intermediate yet. He had a great balance of explaining, showing, and silence to let you sink into poses. The one thing I will say is the studio I participated in was incredibly narrow, and I felt really crammed up next to my neighbors which did not allow me to stretch as much as I wanted to. Why doesn't this place have more reviews? This studio is amazing! I've only been going here for two weeks but I am already in love. The studio & locker rooms are always clean, the staff and teachers are super friendly, there's ample parking around, and the people who come here are respectful and considerate. I love that they offer community classes ($10) because as a beginner yogi, I want to practice several times a week but cannot afford memberships at most yoga studios. I personally love hot yoga so I found Purple Yoga's options for hot yoga classes super awesome (hey I hear they have a pedal studio as well). If you've never tried hot yoga, just make sure you come hydrated, with a towel (for your mat and maybe another one for your face haha), and don't eat heavy right before class. PY also offers other classes as well, I recommend looking at their website at the class descriptions! There's something for everybody :) read more

I stopped by the studio to pick up a yoga mat. I called to make sure the Manduka mat I was looking for was in stock. When I got there, the prices for their mats were $23 more than Manduka's website. I asked the girl at the counter and she told me that the pricing I see on Manduka's website were wholesale pricing. I was instructed to call their Long Beach location and speak with a manager regarding the pricing difference. If you're looking to purchase a mat, make sure to check pricing online first. Overall, the mats are $13-$23 higher than the pricing listed on Manduka's website. Or any of their other online retailers like yogaoutlet.com and Nordstrom. read more

Ok, I've never been around so many genuinely nice people. I'm so happy that I got a membership here! I've taken classes with Joe, Bob, Alex, Randee, Molly, and Cosette. All of them have been incredibly nice and helpful. All of their methods are different so never expect the same routine even if you are taking the same classes again and again. I've taken the blue, green, and red classes. The blue class is in the room that's about 78 degrees. Whereas the red and green classes are in the hot room. I think I've come to prefer the hot yoga classes. If it's your first time going to a hot class- just remember to drink a lot of water beforehand. Because you'll be sweating a looooooooot. There are free lockers (and they're big) so that you can store your gym bag or whatever else you need. Also- there are cubbies inside and outside of the classrooms. Be sure to take off your shoes and put them in the outside cubbies before coming into class. They also have bathrooms and showers- all very clean. Try out the two week trial package and see how you like it! Even if you're a beginner, like I am, you won't feel left out. Everyone has their own pace and the instructors know that- so you'll never feel tense or that you're not doing the same thing as others. read more

I'm a new yogi here, I'm currently on their introductory package for $20 which is 2 weeks of unlimited classes. As far as the studio, it's always clean and fair size. Plus all the instructors I've had so far are super friendly and willing to help each student. The only downside is the parking. If you have a class at 6pm or later, expect to drive around in circles until there is an open spot. I highly recommend arriving 20 minutes before class so you have enough time to find a parking spot. Other than that, it's definitely the best yoga studio I've been to. read more

I have been practicing here since Jan 2015 and I can not say enough good things about this place. Since they have opened the new studio, they have twice as many classes available and also more varieties of classes. Yin and Restorative as well as Gentle Flow and Blue classes which are all done in the "Moon Room" (under 78 degrees) They still offer the Red & Green classes in the "Sun Room" which is HOT. Whatever your preference they have it. They have such qualified, mindful and caring instructors. I have also been on a retreat to Ojai with Alex and am signed up for Mexico with him as well this year. A great way to get off the grid and reconnect with yourself. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a place to practice. The only problem I have encountered is the parking situation in the evening. You just need to give yourself a bit more time before class to find a space. read more

Just went to their new location for the first time! I am such a fan of their $9 community classes and have come back on multiple occasions to try out the different classes they offer. Check their schedule online as they offer at least 4 a day! Red seems to be my favorite but all the teachers have been great thus far. Things to bring: -yoga mat (I believe you can rent one for a fee) -towel (this you can rent too I think) -water They do also offer showers if you need to go somewhere right after and cubbies for your personal belongings. No worries it's safe as I've had no problems with anyone taking my things. The front room smells kinda funky..almost kitty litter like but I attribute this to the fact that it's new. The new yoga room is bigger and really nice with windows that give you a glimpse of the weather outside. Be ready to sweat and enjoy!! read more

I've been going to this place for a few different kinds of yoga and did a spin class at their sister store on a two week introduction pack. I have attended various yoga classes throughout the country and have been practicing for over ten years. This morning I encountered the worst experience with the instructor Asaka. She singled me out during class and wanted to micromanage every move I made. I was having trouble because I couldn't understand her accent. Then pulled me aside after class saying how another class would be better for me. I picked her green 70 class because I wanted to relax and stretch. I was stiff from working hard all week and was participating in the class. Then she came into the locker room while I was showering and sat next to my locker until I was fully dressed. She would not give me space as I was getting dressed. It was inappropriate and rude. I came here to relax and she gave my morning an annoying start. Namaste read more

All their classes used to be great. I still get an awesome workout from the Tenure instructors. The newer instructors tend to keep the room luke warm and they take it easy which is tough for me to break a sweat in. I heard one of the instructors saying they r having a war with the heating. All the classes have seemed not as hot for the last 3 weeks. Well under 100. It's been closer to 90 to 94. If this continues I'll have to find a new yoga studio. read more

Wow I love Purple Yoga. I did the two week intro package and learned much from multiple instructors who have different methods of teaching and educating. Every day I woke up wanting to attend another class to test my knowledge flexibility and endurance!!! The studios are extremely clean, so is the lobby and bathroom. The actual building is modern/pretty. Ample ample amount of parking. Everyone inside courteous. The entire process from trial to becoming an auto renewal member too easy. I don't think I could ever rave so much about this new place. This new bldg. was done up so well and lived up to my expectations. The individual bathroom was so modern and they have automated lockers. They have private showers with privacy doors. And they kept the vanity area where there's complimentary feminine pads and hair dryers and trash bags. The staff were genuinely friendly and knowledgeable about different types of yogas classes. Ive been taking on their community classes after my promotion package expired. I still come here even though its ways from my house. Where do I even begin?!!! $29 for 2 weeks of unlimited yoga at a clean facility with showers! If you haven't signed up...please do so! My co-worker recommended this place so it's been on my radar. Finally, after 2 years, I decided to try it out and found my yoga home! My intro two weeks of unlimited yoga just ended today. But I just purchased 10 more classes so I'll be back! They have a pretty wide schedule meaning that you can go as early as 6am on weekdays and 7am on weekends and as late as 8:30pm on weeknights! There's literally no excuse as why you can't go to yoga! Classes vary from 60 mins to 70 mins. There are two rooms Sun (I think mostly hot yoga) Moon ( regular yoga) I did both types of classes and found them both challenging in different ways. All the instructors I had were good but a few stood out more. Monica: I took her 6:30 Blue class. She works us in a very subtle way. I always go into her class thinking it's not intense (and it isn't, good class for beginners) but I always wake up the next morning feeling like I had a good workout! Mary: I love the passages she reads in the beginning of classes and at the end. I only took 1 of her class but I really enjoyed it. Her movements are little faster than what I'm used to and it was challenging. Lastly, Alex Roberts: He's my fave because he walks through each movement very clearly. He also makes you work for shavasana. I love his subtle humor and the way he teaches the moves. I think if you're in between a beginner and intermediate, this class can help you improve a great deal. My advice, try this place out! $29 is really cheap for very well-ran studio. read more

I love this studio. I can't imagine a friendlier staff, whether it's the instructors or the people up front. Very clean. I love that they have shower and lockers. Lots of choices of class times. I love that they have hot yoga. You can, however, find cheaper studios, but you get what you pay for. For the price, I think it's well worth it. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone. On a side note, there are also some cool coffee shops in the surrounding area. So it's nice being able to get in a great work out, shower, then enjoy some tea somewhere within walking distance. read more

I started attending the community sessions that Purple Yoga offered when I was an undergrad in college to get the feel for the studio. After one class, I was hooked! I fell in love with the downtown location and made it my routine to show up to evening classes. The studio really offered a range of different yoga levels and start times, which made it convenient for me and my hectic schedule. I Immediately noticed how the instructors were knowledgeable and encouraging and did not hesitate to help me improve my posture. Now that I live in San Diego, I really miss this place. I have yet to find a yoga studio that measures up to Purple Yoga and it's been a few years. If you're lucky enough to live near a PY location, I highly recommend visiting the studio.
