I'm OBSESSED with Club Pilates, and no, this isn't sponsored--just a happy member who wouldn't dare…read moregatekeep. First off, Club Pilates is nothing like your traditional gym. Pilates targets muscles I didn't even know existed. Like, who knew your inner thighs could feel this sore, but in the best way possible? And don't even get me started on my abs--they've never looked this good, and I've been trying to meet them for years at the gym with no luck. The best part? You get this magical transformation from a 50 min class AND I DONT have to do endless squats that aren't "squatting" anymore? I didn't even think I could tone my butt like I have! And I've worked out for years. The instructors, Mara, Therese, Terri, and Dinee are ALL incredible. They genuinely love what they do and will gently (but firmly) fix your form when you're accidentally inventing new Pilates moves.lol The studio itself is cozy and clean--none of that overwhelming gym chaos here. I just love it here! It's effective, and ADDICTING!

Who doesn't love Pilates?! Great way to get into shape: I prefer Pilates instead of weightlifting…read more I prefer to be more lean, compared to bulky. Pilates will leave you curvy, yet slender. Perfect combo imo. Instructors are personable, friendly and well-trained. The classes always feel like a safe space as well. As a woman, sometimes going to the gym can be a tad bit uncomfortable, unless of course, you like that sort of attention. If you know, you know. Pilates is a class usually consisting of mostly women. Occasionally, you will come across a man trying out a class, but they are there to workout and relax, not get your number. Anywho! Try out a class for free and see if you like it! Intro class is free and they usually have membership specials so make sure to chat with the front desk before you leave. Enjoy! :)

I am an introverted hermit who just wants to be at home with my cat and a good book. But when two chiropractors and your nurse practitioner tell you Pilates is the only shot you've got at MAYBE getting full knee flexion after surgery, you do what you must. Despite my aversion to leaving my house, group exercise, and being told what to do generally, I've come to enjoy coming here. The instructors are all kind, community oriented, and helpful with any modifications I may need. Tara is always steady and her way of communicating times and countdowns make me feel like I can push through the hard exercises. Patty is just fun and energetic in class. Yvette actually started her teaching journey while I've been here, and it has been delightful to watch her grow and succeed. And finally, Yet. Yet's Stretch and Mobility class is a pain in my butt, sometimes literally. But what her class has done for (to?) me has been immeasurable. I used to not be able to sit or just exist in some positions because of the hip pain I'd experience. Since her class, I haven't had any hip pain, and I've increased my general flexibility and mobility (here's still hoping for that knee flexion back ). If you're looking for a place with attentive and knowledge instructors and a business that cares and gives back to others around them, I highly recommend giving these ladies a try.

We wanted to continue this once we returned to Houston, but we didn't want to find a studio with 30+ students and the Pilates classes at our current gym didn't give us any feedback on whether we were doing the positions/moves correctly. We turned to yelp for help :) We were looking for the following in a studio to supplement our gym membership: 1) small classes 2) personal attention 3) encouraging and attentive teachers This studio has all 3 of these things, but it's not limited to Pilates! They have yoga and cycling classes that meet the above three requirements too! We've only been members since October, but we look forward to our weekly classes. What's really nice is the class feels tailored to us. My husband and I have different bodies (height, strength, flexibility, etc), and the teachers really adapt to us! They'll change certain routines to ensure each student is getting the most of the session. It's a great personalized experience, and your body will thank you. I've already noticed better posture and just awareness of how I hold myself when doing everyday things at home or at work. What a neat find - thank you, yelpers!

I am way overdue for reviewing Hotworx-Pearland…read more This is my regular/daily workout since Cyclebar Pearland closed. Infrared Heat Benefits At first I was resistant to the hot sauna aspect of the workout since you already get hot during a workout and I'm already a sweaty lady but now I absolutely love the infrared heat! It really does flush out toxins, is great for your skin, reduces/eliminates soreness that can come with a workout, also relieves pain and stress. I always come out of my workouts feeling great! It's perfect after a long days work, to kick off your day or for a midday pick me up. Workout Sessions I love the variety of workouts which makes for great cross training. The workouts are a variety of HIIT/cardio and isometric/floor exercises. Since they're hot (it's recommended the workouts be in the 120 degree range for optimal effectiveness), the HIIT workout sessions (cycle, blast/elliptical-ish bike, rowing) are only 15 minutes long and they are a little more challenging than a longer workout since they're shorter. The iso's (yoga, stretch, Pilates, core, bands, Barre, buns) are 45 min . I typically do a 45min - 1.5 hr workout combo of the different sessions or a quick 30 min if I'm low on time or energy. The saunas There are about 7 different hot sauna rooms that play on demand virtually instructed videos that run every 15 minutes (HIIT workouts) and every 45 minutes (Isometric workouts). Supplies You're given a mat and towel with your membership, that are specifically designed for the hot sauna and it is the only mat that will work with the saunas' heat. Cost Hotworx is very reasonably priced at $59/mo for one studio location or $79/mo to workout at all Hotworx location, which is nice bc they have locations EVERYWHERE so it is a great way to keep up with your workout if you go out of town. You also get a month free, if you get to 25,000 calories burned within a 3 month period which is tracked through their app.Its very easy to rack up 25,000 if you're going regularly. Booking thru the app You reserve your workouts through the app, which is nice bc you can see if anyone else has also booked a sauna during a particular time. Although, you're welcome to use a sauna without booking if a spot is available. Each sauna holds 3 people. Staff The staff is great and super friendly. I love that they always run to open the front door for everyone. It's especially helpful when I'm struggling, trying to hold my mat, water, towel etc. Side note, you have to use the Hotworx app to buzz yourself in at the entrance. So if you don't have a membership, you can't get into Hotworx outside of regular business hours. Cancelling The only negative about Hotworx is it's one of those places where you have to provide a 30-day written notice to cancel. Luckily for me I don't have any plans to cancel anytime soon.

My workout routine has been in a rut for a long time, so I thought trying something new would…read moreeither be the motivation I needed or make me run back to what I was doing! I saw an ad online for a free workout. I shared my info and received a text and email to complete registration for the free workout. Nothing major- just my name, contact info and the type of workout I wanted to do for my session. I decided to do a full body workout which was called the Hot Iso. What's unique about these workouts is that they all occur in an infrared sauna. Each pod has space for three people. As a first timer, however, I was given the space to myself. A few things to keep in mind-no shoes in the saunas, you are to wipe your mat down upon finishing the workout, you can control the temp and volume of the workout which is lead by a virtual trainer and the workouts are only 30 minutes! The sauna and the workouts are suppose to provide optimum benefits with less time working out. That is a win. I also liked that the workout provides 3 ways the modify each exercise led by the instructor. However, I could see during peak times when you may have to share space that maybe there's someone who desires a less than hot sauna or maybe needs the volume louder during the workout. Could be problematic...but as my guide shared, non peak times will give you the most space and choices to workout. You may also decide you want to try out several different workouts during your visit. That's fine. Just as long as you sign up for the class. People can sign up for classes up until the last minute before the class starts, so just be aware. You may be wondering how this place compares to a typical gym. They actually have a free weight area that also have virtual trainers to lead random exercises with you. A stretch area is also included in the small space. Two restroooms are apart of the gym. One with a shower in fact, but you'd have to use the restroom as the dressing room because this space only has cubbies and small lockers for possessions. That maybe a deal breaker for someone who would come workout before work and runs the risk of several people needing to shower after working out. Most likely, most do not and probably live close to this location, thus running home to get a shower and dress for work. What is great is the 24 hour access to the gym Guests of members can only come inside when staff are present. This particular aspect reminds me when I use to be a member of Snap Fitness. My swipe card allowed me access anytime of tthe day but certain violations would cause penalties or cancelation of membership. I'm sure this place is monitored closely but the distance for me was too great for me to become a member. However, for anyone right in the neighborhood looking to try something new, HOTWORXS is worth a try!

Which is why I stepped around for so long, however, being a former combat veteran I have injuries that require special equipment that was a bit bulky that corporate made a clear to not have gym bags on the floor, I had made a special arrangement to use a smaller bag to house my equipment about the size of a gallon water bottle so it would "be out of everybody's way". They do have a sign that says to "refrain" from having bags on the floor. A recommendation, not a hardcoded rule. Regardless with my drawstring gym bag underneath the equipment, I was working out on. I had a manager come up and asked me to put everything away. This makes it especially difficult as I have to walk back-and-forth between the locker room to use different assisting equipment for my injuries. I explained the arrangement I had with the previous manager and she instead rather sarcastically told me it doesn't matter that corporate is coming down hard. I am not one to argue so I did oblige and since I paid for the membership, I will be leaving and going back to lifetime fitness after my membership fees are completed here. I highly recommend you do not work out here or start a membership here as they are way overpriced for mediocre equipment and any requests take absolute months to fulfill. As a disabled combat veteran I should not have to walk back-and-forth every time I change an exercise to grab assisting equipment to support said exercises. Based on the rather brash and rude interaction with this manager, I will be contacting the BBB based on the context of the sign, being a combat veteran, and the strife it causes me, including that there are bigger problems than gym bags on the floor, such as continuously, drop weights, misaligned equipment, and un wiped down surfaces. Do yourselves a favor and instead of paying for the membership here, just go ahead and go to lifetime fitness because for the membership fee, you will pay here, you will have access to two gyms instead at lifetime Please see the sign below. If this is a rule, then anybody that is dropping equipment, not wiping anything down, or not re-racking their weights should have a stern talking to just like I did. But I don't see any of that happening.
