I decided to come here since I've seen their baked goods all around Sacramento, especially in their coffee shops, and I wanted to see what the hype was about. There didn't seem to be as many options as there probably is earlier in the day...I had come in around 5 pm. I picked out the Awesome (lemon poppy seed muffin) which was $1.95, and the Cowboy Cookie, which was $2.75. I thought the Awesome tasted okay--it was a solid, standard lemon poppy seed muffin, with a bit of icing to coat it on top. It was smaller than a regular muffin you can make at home, so I thought it was overpriced. I thought the Cowboy Cookie tasted better. It seemed to be like an oatmeal cookie with chocolate chips in there. It was very soft, and tasted good, but I didn't think it was especially memorable. I want to point out that customer service wasn't that great...the staff didn't seem like they were happy to be working there. My friends and I weren't really sure what the baked goods were all about, especially since there were no descriptions for vague names (think "Awesome" or "Dude cookie"). They didn't really bother to ask if it was our first time there or if we had any questions. They simply stood there, waiting for us to ask them for help before they started talking to us. I was not very impressed with my experience here, but because I've heard great things, I do want to give Pushkins another try. read more

Everything is so tasty here! I discovered this place years ago when they first opened and have enjoyed it ever since. Plus I love the sister stores too! Well worth the commute to Sacramento just to get some amazing gluten free treats! read more

For being a gluten and dairy free bakery, their confectionaries are amazing! I couldn't even tell because the sweets taste as good if not better than a regular bakery. Their holiday pecan pie is my favorite item from what I've tried thus far. The lunch sandwiches, however, were less impressive. They're quite small (although very stuffed- some to the point that the greens were completely falling out) and I'm often still hungry after eating both halves. The draw here would definitely be for sweets/ brunch items rather than lunch. read more

After being at many different bakeries and tasting vegan to gluten free, Pushkins was not a top favorite. We ordered the lemon poppyseed muffin (vegan) and two apple cupcakes. The icing was wonderful on the Lemon but not so great on the apple. The bread was tasty and not dry on both the apple and the lemon. It was a fun treat for the day and we were happy we stopped! read more

This was exactly what I was looking for when I was planning my friend's birthday celebration in the area. I'm from Indy but was visiting and searched desperately for a gluten free bakery for her birthday cake. I was even able to place my order from Indiana and pick a pick-up time that worked for us. :D Pushkin's came highly recommended and I totally see why! I ordered their Mixed Berry Ganache cake with a chocolate base and it was amazingggg. It was so moist and perfectly sweet. The berries on it were all ripe and delicious, too. Very disappointed in this bakery's customer service. Tried to order a vegan cake online but my internet was down (boo Comcast) so I figured I'd call first thing this morning. I was told that cake orders are only done online and need 48hrs notice. My vegan mom's bday is tomorrow, could they make me something, any vegan cake? Answer NO. Anyway I can purchase a cake from their current in store options? NO. They only make one cake per day and it may not be vegan and I would need to arrive at 8am and there's still no guarantee. What?!? This is a bakery with no cakes?? This is not how to get and keep customers. Not to mention I asked politely if there were any other vegan bakeries that might help me. Answer NO. read more

Friend who is a local took me to Dad's sanwhich shops before enjoying a river day. But their wait was going to be 25 minutes even with no line. We ended up going to here, to Pushkin's sandwich shop and had the New Yorker with added avocado. Not a gluten free bread person but their sandwich was actually really good and they had an amazing array and selection of baked goods. It was a really busy day, but they were able to make our sandwich within 10 minutes or so they are located next to a mini knock off Whole Foods market with a great selection of snacks produce drinks as well. Staff here were friendly and really speedy in helping us and crafting high quality sandwiches. read more

These reviews are frustrating because I can basically guarantee that almost every single comment complaining about texture and the like are people WITHOUT a gluten intolerance. What did you think was going to happen when you bought from a gluten-free bakery? If you have celiacs like I do; then trust me. This bakery is AMAZING. Their sandwich breads put grocery bought loafs to shame. In particular, their breakfast sandwiches are magnifique! I practically inhaled their zinger cake and their pumpkin bread is one of my personal vices. In other words, when you judge reviews from this bakery on taste or texture be sure to check if they have a gluten intolerance or not. If you're used to the "real" thing then you're just unlikely to enjoy the gluten-free alternative. To you, it's grainy and strange. For us, it's a breath of fresh air. read more

Totally found this place by accident while on a run one morning. I was drawn to the place because i noticed a group of people walking in. I also smelled the baked good and immediately busted out my phone to check it out on yelp. It's located in a quiet area, and can be difficult to find of you're not looking for it. I'd imagine that most people are repeat customers, since not a lot of food traffic comes though here. There are lots of different baked goods to choose from. I also noticed that they serve Temple Coffee. The party before me ordered sandwiches and from the sound of it, they were regulars and knew exactly what they were ordering. I ordered the Pumpkin Bread, and Mixed Berry Vanilla Scone. Both were very tasty, but I prefer the scone over the Pumpkin Bread. Check this place out!!! read more

They offer delicious specialty baked breads like their wonderful zucchini bread. They make vegan cupcakes which are amazing. They have a decadent French toast cupcake. I've ordered it multiple times. They have a rotating selection of baked goods and I recommend them Support local businesses. read more

Outstanding gluten free bakery! Seriously the best GF sandwich I've ever had - and my mom said one of the best sandwiches she's ever had period, and she's not even GF! Their desserts are also mostly great - only one miss of the 3 that we tried. Highly highly recommend to any Celiacs in the Sac area. read more

FINALLY!!!!!! An ALL GLUTEN FREE BAKERY!!! So many pastries, breads, cookies, muffins, cupcakes!!! It is heaven! And the food is delicious. They have a sit down area and do offer breakfast:brunch:lunch items- I just haven't tried them yet!!! We are still working on the sweets area. If you haven't tried Pushkin's yet- what are you waiting for. Why a 4 and not a 5? They close mid afternoon and that sucks for later evening sweet tooth's and there have been some not so friendly staff when we have brought our special needs kiddos!! read more

I want to start by saying I'm neither GF nor vegan, I am vegetarian and just enjoy supporting inclusive eateries. The woman that helped me was exceptional, she was so sweet and bubbly and willing to help me with fantastic recommendations. I always like to get a sampling of items whenever I visit a new bakery, she helped point out fan faves as well as her personal picks. I also got a sandwich. The baked goods were AMAZING. Enjoyable no matter your diet, a fantastic place to pick up sweets for a party to accommodate common dietary exceptions. My only complaint is that the frosting on everything was a little on the salty side. I preferred the items without frosting, but the almond and raspberry cupcake was delicious despite it. I'm sorry to say that I didn't enjoy the sandwich very much, mostly due to the bread (Vietnamese sandwich/Banh mi) but again, I'm not gluten free. Where the sweets passed undetected as vegan/GF, the bread was definitely amiss. I honestly wondered if it was undercooked, but the person I was with told me that's just how GF bread is. As far as GF bread, I'm sure it's very good compared to other GF options out there, but I wouldn't order again. If you're GF and/or vegan, this must be what heaven looks like. Even if you're not, this place is damn good. I wish I'd been able to come back during my stay, I will definitely make a habit of stopping by whenever I'm in the area! read more

Ordered a vanilla strawberry cake for my little sister's 21st who is an ovo-vegetarian. She can't have milk or gluten so this place was perfect since that cake is gluten-free and dairy free. I also picked up a berry scone, mud pie cookie, and 4 Russian tea cookies just to try out. We ate those with coffee and tea and they are delicious! Perfect afternoon tea/coffee snack! read more

I was having a crazy sweet tooth today and decided to deliver some vegan sweets myself and chose Pushkins. I ordered their: Barracuda Cupcake Double Chocolate Walnut Cookie Banana Walnut Bread All in a I'd give this order a C-. I am not lying when I say i took one bite of this and put it away. The texture of the cupcakes was gritty, left a weird feeling on the tongue and not that enjoyable. The frosting was weird in the tongue too, it reminded me of uncomfortable foam The cookie was beyond dry and had a weird aftertaste. I started with a bite of this first. The chocolate chips were a nice touch The banana bread wasn't bad at first but after a while the taste started to coat my tongue. The banana flavor was there, but not as strong as i thought it could be I've heard ipeople raving about vegan desserts from Pushkins, but after trying it for myself I can say they are kinda overrated. I hate feeling heavy after eating desserts, and I felt heavy and uncomfortable fafter t eating geach of these (No, I didn't eat them all at once lol) . I guess I was expecting more in the end, but it's whatever. I'd say if your looking for a place to satisfy a sweet tooth, then yeah go. But if you're looking for (imo) quality, satisfying desserts, this isn't the place to go to. I wish Sacramento had more options for vegan treats and desserts. read more

The absolute most incredible Gluten Free bakery ever. Best tasting, most scrumptious goodies I've had. I forgot I was eating Gluten Free. I was in a blissful state of pure joy. They have everything you can imagine, go wild and thoroughly enjoy yourself here. The Awesomes, No Names, Cinnamon Roll Cupcake, Orange Poppy Cupcake, Chocolate Raspberry cupcake are some of my favorites and believe me I will find more as I eat more because I am trying so hard to stop myself from living my life just eating Pushkin's Bakery every single day. Omg Pushkin's deserves 10/5 stars! My partner has a gluten sensitivity and this is the only exclusive gluten free (gf) bakery we can find in the Sacramento area. No complaining that it's the only one though - even if there were a hundred competitors, Pushkin's would be our one and only local gf bakery. You cannot tell their baked goods are gluten free! The textures and flavors are right up there with the best baked goods I've eaten! I don't want to come off aggressive with the exclamation marks but I could scream about this place it's so good. If you eat gf or not, you have to try Pushkin's and once you try, you won't be able to stop going back. read more

Craving vegan pastries? Oatmilk chai lattes? Vegan breakfast sandwich? I was. I dropped into Pushkin's to sit for an hour while my gf was at the hospital having a procedure done. The place was clean and the staff were super friendly. It's refreshing to find a place with warm, soft, fresh-baked pastries that I can indulge in. I bought a vegan breakfast sandwich call the BLVD. while it didn't knock my flavor socks off it was fresh and hearty and it hit the spot. I had an ice chai latte that was perfect. I bought three pastries with the intention of eating one a day for the next few days but they didn't survive to see noon. The pastries were delectable, sweet, fluffy, and fresh. The lemon poppyseed muffin and the chocolate raspberry cupcake deserve honorable mention read more

I love Sacramento for gems just like this. I love Pushkins Bakery mostly for their sandwiches, though I have heard GREAT things about their pastries as well. I have had breakfast sandwich #3 as well as their vegan breakfast sandwich and I loved both of them. I like that I can get something that is not centered on meat but still has really good flavor. The ingredients taste really fresh and I am pretty sure I would like anything on their menu. There is some outdoor seating here but most people seem to drop in, grab their food and go. They do take orders over the phone if you want to call it in and have it ready as soon as you get there. Otherwise the wait is usually about five minutes for their sandwiches. Baked goods are pre-made and ready to go immediately. The employees here have always been very friendly and welcoming. I enjoy getting a sandwich here and taking it to Temple nearby to eat with my coffee. But no matter where you take Pushkins, it will not disappoint. read more

If you let the cake sit out for 30-45 mins room temperature then it tastes bette, The frosting will be softer I wouldn't go back and buy more. Their Bahn Mi isn't good. Flavorless. read more

As a vegan and gf being, this place is the QUEEN of baked goodies, cakes, breakfast sammies etc. and don't get it twisted when I say it's vegan and gluten free, it's also bomb.com! My partner is neither vegan nor plagued with a gluten allergy, and he LOVES coming to this place. He always asks every Sunday morning for Pushkins breakfast sandwiches and a donut. I really don't know what I would do without this place on my birthday for that delish vegan and gluten free cake. In fact the people I served my favorite cake from Pushkin's too on my birthday didn't even know it was vegan or gluten free and LOVED it before knowing!! That's simply amazing. Also this place isn't too pricey or "bougie" just because it caters to the gf folk. It's cute and SO GOOD, what more do you need? read more

So good! My all-time favorite is the snickerdoodle muffin. It's incredible that everything is dairy free. The moistness of the treats is amazing for no diary, and the icing is so good without dairy. Super impressed. All muffins are good, the cinnamon rolls, cookies and brownies. Check the menu online for what they're serving each day. read more

I can always count on Pushkin's to deliver delicious gluten-free (and sometimes, also vegan) baked goods and sandwiches. Their cupcakes and cakes are moist and scrumptious, and their baked goods taste just as good if not even better than the originals! Definitely a Sacramento must. P.S. If you haven't tried their donut shop (Babe's) or eaten at their sit-down restaurant (Sibling's) for breakfast/lunch, you're missing out! read more

This bakery is wicked awesome. They serve gluten free, and vegan made products. To start they have a decent variety of bakery items such as daily changing scone flavors, cookies, cupcakes, meyers lemon pound cake, lemon bar, coffee cakes, they have some homemade potato chips for only $1. Yes they a small size but perfect for a snack. We had gone back 2x just for those. The scones have a great texture to them, not loaded with glaze and have fresh strawberries,blackberry,and the maple walnut scone is perfect. The store is a walk in only to buy, but they have a few seats outside to enjoy your favorite pushkins treats. They do offer a handful of sandwiches starting after 10am. Which i plan on tryingin my next visit. read more

My favorite local bakery for sure hands down. Everything about this place is dope. The staff that are super friendly shoutout jose, the baked goods which are also healthy cause it's gluten free, the vibes of course are great. My fave is the lemon pound cake cuz it's moist with just enough sweetness and sourness from the lemon. The other items are good too and the breakfast sandwiches are nice. This a true sac staple. An iconic bakery. A place that I never get tired of going. There not pretentious about their products. This place is built by love! Not trying to be overly dramatic but I would die for this place! I absolutely love Pushkin's! They have done a great job adapting recipes for baked good for people who require gluten and/or dairy free. They also use all natural ingredients and offer many vegan items. As you walk in to the smallish boutique, you'll be amazed by the large variety of goods offered. We often grab a lemon bar for our afternoon break but have had many other goods. Some of our other favorites included the pound cakes, Awesomes, No Names, and the Russian Tea Cakes. Besides the owners being super friendly, they also are very picky about their staff and hire those who are just as friendly. Yes, all this from a person (me) who doesn't require any special dietary needs...except maybe to eat less. read more

I tried to push some Pushkins into my life by making the trek across to the other side of downtown during my lunch break. The shop is tiny and cute, with a display case that whispered sweet nothings in my ear "buy me.. you know you want to.." So I bought almost everything in the display case. Workers were more sugar than spice. Oh so nice! But uhh.. what the hell. Does gluten-free = dense, dry goodies? I'll pass. I think I will stick to ingredients that can stop my heartbeat faster, but gives me the immediate gratification of making my taste buddies sing in glorious angelic harmony. My most recent experience with Pushkins was deplorable! The cake was dry and chunks of the sponge were missing and they used the icing as mortar. In spots it was three inches deep! Unprofessional! They should have used another sponge instead of piecing it together. It was so sweet and dry! No one ate it! I actually had to throw away a $90 cake. Then I called to speak of the manager. Waited two weeks for a call back. Nada. Called again, finally the owner called me back. He was rude. Stated that he has never had such a complaint and he has nothing to offer as a refund or discount for future purchases. Peace out! I will NEVER purchase anything from them again! Im an amateur baker and my cakes are 100% better than the one we purchased from Pushkins! read more

I've heard a lot about this local bakery, so we finally dropped by after lunch. It's a small little shop on the opposite side of Temple Coffee. I would hate to see it on a busy day; it was a bit squished inside so we wanted to get our treats and head out! There are a few tables outside, but if those are taken, you're out of luck! We decided to take our treats over to Temple and take a table over there to enjoy our desserts. They mostly have cupcakes, scones, cookies, and whatever other baked goods you can think of! I decided on a chocolate chip scone. It was a lot more dry than I expected it to be, and it made me crave a glass of cold milk! My boyfriend's choice, a chocolate banana cupcake, was a lot more moist for my taste. He's always better with choosing tasty items.. If I'm in the area, I'll definitely come back. I think the appeal to Pushkins is its health factor - it's vegan, and gluten- and dairy-free, which is huge in the food industry right now. Also, they have a great advantage being located next to a popular coffee shop! read more

Pushkin's Bakery is Sacramento's first and only dedicated gluten and dairy-free bakery. Established on the grounds of Olga Turner's own creations, Pushkin's offers everything from cupcakes, cookies, scones, muffins, S'more sandwiches, to full-size birthday and wedding cakes. And with over half of their menu being vegan, theres always something for everyone! Oh ya, and they offer vegan ice cream on gluten-free cones as well!

They put dry ice inside and then pour water into it, making it look like the elephant is blowing smoke out of its trunk. My daughter was completely mesmerized. Watching her reaction was worth the visit all by itself. What I loved most was that it wasn't just a gimmick. The drink was actually good, and the elephant made such a cute keepsake afterward. It felt like getting both a treat and a souvenir. The café itself had a fun atmosphere, and it was one of those places that felt a little different from your typical coffee or tea stop. Helpful tip: If it's your first visit, order one of the drinks served in the elephant. The presentation alone is worth it, especially if you're visiting with kids. To keep the order going while I was calling them, I asked for a mochi waffle and the guy threw his hands up annoyed and was like do you not want the boba for drink? I told the cashier I'll have the crystal boba instead of the brown sugar since it's currently unavailable, and the guy goes with an attitude... soo do you want the crystal boba? I said yess...yes I do. The Iced Dubai Chocolate Matcha was alrightt. It is definitely not all that it is hyped up to be. The drink IMO was just a basic iced matcha with chocolate drizzle on the side of the cup and the pistachio foam that barely tasted like pistachio.

I will say the lobster paella was a little disappointing, I expected a little bit more from a nearly $100 dish. The tartar was a solid app, the oysters were delectable, the bread was toasty and hot with a generous side portion of creamy butter. By my book, service, ambiance, and FLAVOR, Ella is worth the visit.
