I thought the birria tacos were a bit on the dry side
    Laura D.

Came with two friends for a late lunch around 3:30pm. We always drive by and finally decided to stop and try Puya. The restaurant inside is nicely decorated and has ample seating and two large screens which I'm sure were used to show the World Cup games. They should play some videos of Mexico or something to show since yesterday it was just the Roku Home Screen showing on both screens. There was a parking lot behind the building and we easily found a spot. We walked in and there was no one at the hostess stand but a female employee approached and seated us. We were each given an iPad as a menu. We wanted to order their grilled wings but were told they only had fried wings. They also had a whole menu with various fish dishes and I want to try their fried fish but was told that they no longer have any fish dishes only fish tacos. I decided to go with the birria tacos. the menu didn't mention the price for the taco dishes but said it was two tacos served with rice and beans. When the tacos came out, they were a decent size but I found them to be dry and lacking flavor a bit. I've had plenty of birria tacos at different restaurants and they're always so juicy and flavorful. Also, it was $20 for two tacos. Seeing the other reviews, I now see that it's a kosher restaurant so that's why the prices were a bit on the higher end. Overall, the restaurant decor was nice to look at but the service and food were average. I gave them a try and not sure if I would come back unless someone invited me.

    Nachos

We saw this place on instagram, glad we decided to go. We found out after eating, it's kosher which we didn't know what that meant but It was delicious! The nachos are a must try, we got the birria quesadilla which was good but needed a little salt. Ask for a coconut or tamarind mescalita (mescal margarita), it was delicious. We will be back for their soft serve kosher ice cream, it was a perfect refreshing end to our dinner. There was a female Dominican bar manager we loved, i don't remember her name but she's was great!

Sidecar Speakeasy was the play... The speakeasy entrance was hidden in a hallway you can walk right by without even noticing. I dig it. Once inside, it's dark. Most of the light is coming from the light showcasing the bottles in the bar. The seating is a little tight as they're trying to maximize space for such a small area. We visited here twice during my visit: We sat at a table and a bar. You have the perfect amount of space for your party, but you're pretty close to the next table or bar seat. No claustrophobic vibes though. All the mixologists were great during both visits. One visit, we ordered their signature cocktails from the menu. When we sat at the bar, we had the mixologist surprise with a cocktail off the menu. He just asked what kind of liquor vibe we wanted, and he took it from there. He was super creative with every cocktail which made for a great time. They stayed upon until midnight one one visit and until 1 am on the other one. Both my visits were on a weekday. The sidecar speakeasy is easily my favorite bar in Fort Lauderdale and I have a feeling I'll be back. Enjoy!

Sat in front of the Whiskey Neat windows on the patio and ordered a slab of ribs. The bar is lit up with red lighting, a red brick back drop and some cool artwork against the warm wood panel walls. The front area had some basic sofas kinda a cigar bar theme. The ambiance is not even close to the sultry sexy vibe at their Sunrise location, although the open courtyard here with the coconut trees make up for the shortcomings. The gender neutral bathroom had cool brick wrap around walls and withered black tile flooring but needed some TLC, obviously no bathroom checklists enforced here.

The drinks were absolutely on point and I walked away with a much better appreciation for whiskey than I came in with. The prices were surprisingly decent for what you're getting, which made the whole experience feel even better. But what really got me was the ambience. Inside and out, this place just hits different. There's a vibe here that's hard to put into words -- it feels elevated but not pretentious. They had a DJ going and it perfectly complemented the energy without being overwhelming. It just all came together in the best way. Strongly recommend. Whether you're a whiskey veteran or just starting to explore it like me, this is a must-visit in Fort Lauderdale. Do yourself a favor and go.

Even if you don't keep kosher, it's absolutely worth a visit because the food is delicious and the presentation is beautiful. I ordered the Breakfast for Two (about $38), which was an incredible value. It included cappuccinos, fresh orange juice, three eggs per person, a croissant, your choice of a baguette or multigrain bread, individual salads, and an impressive tower of spreads including tuna salad, feta, olives, pickles, and more. Everything was fresh, plentiful, and beautifully presented. One of my friends ordered the Eggs Benedict. It normally comes with smoked salmon, but the staff was happy to accommodate her request to substitute mushrooms instead, which we really appreciated. The service was friendly and attentive throughout our meal. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating--we chose to sit inside since it was a hot South Florida morning. One fun touch was that the menu was displayed on an iPad, which made browsing the extensive menu easy and interactive. If you're looking for a wonderful brunch or lunch spot with fresh, high-quality food, generous portions, and excellent service, I highly recommend Café Noir. It's become one of my favorite places, and I'll definitely be back!
