In town for my son's wrestling tournament down the street at Henrico when we came across this bbq joint and happy we did! Starting with the service, we needed a place to accommodate our entire team last minute and they were happy to take on our party of 16 with no problem! The staff was very friendly and helpful! The food was great! Ribs were falling off the bone, the burnt ends with juicy and melting in my mouth, the chicken was seasoned perfectly! The accompanying sauces on the table were awesome! Along with a small selection of beers on tap and bottled, us parents were definitely satisfied. Overall ambiance was laid back, our wrestlers appetites were tamed and were less rowdy once their bellies were full. I'd definitely eat here again!

Stopped by with family for lunch, the service was fast our food arrived at the same time we found our table. The portions were good and the meat was tender with no fat. Our only concern was the lack of smoke flavor and seasoning. The restaurant was active with a small amount of customers.

I used to come here all the time before COVID and came recently - the ribs have slightly changed, in my opinion, and but still delicious and will keep coming back. I crave the corn pudding and hush puppies. I've never really had a bad meal here. I feel like if you get the platter versus the rack of ribs alone, it's less meatier - so I usually just get half rack of ribs and sides. So good, and sad I can only come a few times a year. The service can be inconsistent, but it's basically just a self-serve after ordering, so not a problem. The ambiance: very spacious since I see lots of people take it to-go and it's always been clean. Ok. Now, I'm craving it...

Finally had a chance to hit Q BBQ while driving back up from the South this last time through after trying to plan this stop for years. I had always wanted to come here when it was owned by Tuffy Stone and I actually wasn't even aware that he had sold it until after I ate there and Tuffy actually commented on my video of the spot himself to let me know. The place was large and clean with plenty of seating and the gentleman who helped me at the counter was friendly. The meal came to around $24 for two meats, two sides, cornbread, and a fountain beverage. For the two meats I chose to go with Regular Brisket as well as brisket burnt ends. The ol' go big or go home mentality...hit me with both big beef items. For sides I chose mac and cheese as well as collard greens. This plate is much like a tale of two cities for me, the protein offerings were excellent, the rest was good, not great. The regular brisket was incredibly tender and I was having a hard time even keeping it on my fork from the plate to my mouth. Good flavor on it and a decent smoke ring as well. I have had better smoked brisket in my life but only maybe a handful of times. The burnt ends were also delicious and even more tender, but they were slightly one dimensional. They did have a sauce on the table that was a bit spicy though and when I added that they were a homerun. I wouldn't turn down either of those brisket options any time they were offered to me! The mac and cheese was pretty good but nothing that was super memorable. The collards were the same for me. I enjoyed them enough to eat everything on my plate, but next time in I'd definitely opt for trying other items. The cornbread also had good flavor but was dry. I ran the cornbread at the end through the leftover sauce from my burnt ends and that was a nice combo! All in all I am happy I finally got to stop in here and give it a shot and I'd go back and try them again. Q Barbecue - Didn't Suck!

Counter service barbecue joint -- cashier was friendly and helpful. I ordered the barbecue plate with collards and fries. There was a fountain drink station with lemonade and tea as well. Barbecue was good if not spectacular. There were four sauces to choose from on the table. Collards were very good. Fries could have been cooked longer and they only gave one ketchup packet. I wish ketchup was just on the table. Portion sizes were good.

Place was clean and staff very friendly. Ordered 6 smoked wings, dry. Brisket sandwich, Mac and cheese and sweet tea. Wings were dry, meaning not slathered in sauce. Wings looked great and very good in size. But they were definitely in the smoker a long time. Flavorful but dry to the point they pulled away from the bone. The bone reminded me of sun bleached bones after the meat was gone. Mac and cheese was good like it was freshly made. Knowing brisket is probably the most difficult cut to smoke, I rolled the dice on the brisket sandwich. I rolled a craps. Lifting the top bun off I could tell the meat was dry. Tasting a piece before adding sauce it was dry AF. I added some BBQ sauce and it was like putting sauce on small wooden planks. I tried to love it but I couldn't even like it after a couple of bites. Would I go back. Maybe. I wouldn't have the same things I had today with the exception of the Mac and cheese. Total cost a little over $31 not including tip.

Food tasted fantastic. Our two meals included pulled pork sandwich and brisket platter with cole slaw, baked beans, and pineapple hot dish as sides. I do have a complaint about the brisket portions. For $17 I received 5 small slices of brisket. I will not return because of the cost and portion size despite the food quality.

While in Richmond area for my daughter's soccer tournament, we had to get some BBQ. This came highly recommended by other soccer parents, and it was close from our hotel, so we gave it a try. When we arrived, this place was packed and there was quite a line to order your food. We ordered the Big BBQ plates with brisket and ribs. The ribs were one of the best ones I've had in any BBQ places. I would come back just for that. It was very tender but not fall of the bones which I don't like. The brisket was good, but I wish they also offered moist brisket. We also enjoyed their wings - it was perfectly fried and we enjoyed the dry rub. Solid BBQ place in the Glen Allen, VA area.

For some reason, I remembered this place being worse than it was when I first went here a couple years back. I was throughly surprised on every aspect here. To start, the hush puppies were super good. They were flaky and soft on the inside and crisp and crunchy on the outside. The cornbread was alright. I'm not a huge fan of it to begin with but I didn't mind it as a change of pace. The potato salad was really good. It was creamy, and packed with flavor. Instead of a mustard driven potato salad, it was more of a classic style, which I appreciated. It tasted fresh as well. The Mac and cheese wasn't the best or something I'd automatically order again, but it was serviceable. I thought it was pretty creamy, and the char on top was nice. It could've used more flavor like pepper or some type of seasoning in my opinion. Next, I thought the onion rings were really good. They are huge and you get a lot of them for an order. They had good crispiness and the batter tasted really good. Next I'd like to point out the amazing bbq sauce selection that they have at each table. I thought they were AMAZING. The sauces alone made me want to come back here. They hit the spot on them. The pulled chicken was phenomenal as well. It's creamy and melts in your mouth, which I loved. Most pulled chicken is dry and gets boring after a while, this one doesn't at all. It's seasoned nicely and again pairs super well with the bbq sauces. The pudding was good. My girlfriend isn't a huge fan of banana pudding so I got this all to myself. It did taste like it had been sitting out for a while, the wafers weren't crisp but instead soggy. This thankfully didn't take away from the flavor. Overall, the service was fast, the restaurant is spacious and seating is comfortable. I want to try this place out again and try the bbq before I give it a full five stars. If they can hit on that, I'd be willing to bump it up. Pricing really isn't terrible for bbq. I think all of this was like 25 bucks. I'll be here again and I recommend this spot to anyone in glen allen!

I was recently in the mood for BBQ and a road trip. I had visited the Q a few years ago when I was driving from North Carolina to Pittsburgh, and figured that it was time for a return trip. Yes, I still live in Pittsburgh, and I decided to drive six hours to Richmond, VA, for BBQ. Needless to say, I was not disappointed. I got into Richmond at about 7:30 p.m. on a Sunday night with my significant other, and was a touch fearful that whatever was left towards the end of the night would be dried out, or that they would be out of brisket. Luckily, my fears were misplaced. I ordered a brisket combo platter with mac and cheese, and hush puppies. Dinner was enhanced by free cornbread and a Cheerwine (which is hard to come by in the north). The brisket was spectacular- moist, full of flavor, and a perfect fit with the Q's original sauce. The mac and cheese was creamy and not oily, a few steps above what you typically receive at a lot of barbeque joints. The hush puppies are very heavy, but quite tasty. Suffice to say, if you're in the mood for something light, don't go for the hush puppies (then again, if you want something light, you probably wouldn't be going to a BBQ restaurant). My companion chose the pulled pork, which I sampled, and was very pleased with. We decided to stop at the Q again the next day on our way out of town. This time, I went for a pulled pork sandwich, mac and cheese, and the brisket chili. I have had better brisket chili in Pittsburgh (from Yinzburgh BBQ), but it was still very tasty and possessed just the right spicy kick. My pulled pork sandwich hit the spot, moist, smoky, and the perfect vessel to be slathered in BBQ sauce. We made sure that we bought several bottles of sauce to tide us over until our next trip. We found the staff at the Q to be helpful and friendly, and the restaurant is very clean and well-maintained. While we did stop at a few other places in Richmond during our brief trip that were great (the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the Virginia State Capitol Building, and the botanical gardens), both my lady and I would have left Richmond happy if the Q had been our only stop. You simply cannot go wrong with top notch BBQ served in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. read more

I haven't been to Q barbecue in quite a while. The last time, I believe I was in Hampton with my mom like three years ago and we had an amazing experience. I was curious to try the one in Richmond but never got around to it. I ordered the wings with collards and baked beans as my sides. I'm not sure who's running this place or if Q bbq recently changed their menu but I don't recall it tasting as terrible as it did. The sides were honestly unacceptable. I didn't finish either. The greens tasted like someone got happy with he vinegar and sugar...left a very nasty aftertaste. The beans...how can you make bad beans??? Idk but they've figured it out because I didn't finish those either. My chicken was good..you can't really mess that up but unless they plan to make some renovations to the menu, I will not be back. Aside from that, it's a very nice looking restaurant & the staff is extremely nice. read more

I really was dieing to try this place as soon as I saw a mysterious q with s pig nose pop up in the corner lot of this strip mall. So much so that I even showed up while they were still working on it. Hey there were a lot of folks inside. But to the smoked meat of the review. The bbq is.......good. its actually smoked with good quantity and quality. The meat is large chunk pulled. The sides are all excellent as far as I've eaten. It may not be a typical item, but I am a big fan of the pickle spear. The fountain Cheerwine is a nice little bonus, even though I rarely drink sodas. Cool place, with really good food, and a really good restaurant layout. read more

Sadly I have yet to find really GREAT BBQ place anywhere near Richmond. Q Barbeque was ok. My brisket wasn't dry so that's good, my coleslaw was too sweet for my liking, and I so wanted to love the pineapple dish...but I didn't. My aunt was happy they do dry rub on their ribs but she wasn't blown away either. The feel of the place reminds me of Chipotle in barbeque form, nothing to write home about. read more

It was ok....kinda pricey....the portions were good. The pulled pork was tender and juicy but had very little flavor...I mean I think I found bland bbq. I had the 2 meat combo platter with 1 side for $11.75. It came with 4 ribs which were fall off the bone but again not much flavor. They have 3 sauces at the table. All of those were sickly sweet for my taste and the spicy one had no heat. The potato salad side was fine. I dunno but I think there is better bbq around Richmond. read more

You have got to get there early to get their burnt ends. They are the best. All food was awesome I would choose this over Mission BBQ or any other large chain 4 out of 5 times. The pineapples hot dish side is a must! You have to get it. read more

Firstly, all y'all complaining about "OMG! IT'S LIKE A FAST FOOD SETUP!"... have you never been to a BBQ joint before? Just.... I mean... I guess if the only BBQ you've ever had was at a Red Hot and Blue or something you'd expect waiters but.... I suppose that's to be expected seeing as this place is right next to I-95 so there's a lot of North to South traffic flow. So yes, there's a counter. You walk up to the counter and order, then get a number and sit down to wait for your food. BUT, on to what really matters: IS THE BBQ ANY GOOD? Absolutely! Ribs and brisket are great! Sides are awesome! Homemade lemonade is really good too. I'd put this place in my top 3 BBQ restaurants ever (other two are 12 Bones in Asheville, NC and Due South BBQ in Christiansburg, VA). DOES IT TAKE LONG? Nope, food has always been brought out within 5-10 min of ordering. Start to finish you can eat a lunch here in 30 minutes, 20 if you snarf it down. Good when you're on a road trip and eager to get where you're going. SHOULD YOU GO? Yes! BBQ is always a subjective thing, so you might not like it as much as I do, but it's absolutely worth a stop. read more

Traveling thru the Richmond area on my way back to NOVA. I been on a quest for fantastic BBQ... My prayers have been answered! What amazing, quality meat! I had the two meat combo with pulled pork/ ribs and sides of Mac and cheese and pineapple hot relish. Mac and cheese was off the hook... in a bechamel sauce. The pineapple hot dish was more of a desert. Picking up a container of the pulled pork to take home. Everything is delish!!! read more

Q catered our outdoor event last weekend. We went all out on the food options and were so pleased we did. Everything was perfect. Brisket remains my favorite but it all was wonderful. We had two Q servers that provided wonderful service we are so appreciative of their professionalism and kindness. We would do it all over again with Q. This place has the best BBQ in town bar none. And the staff is always friendly. I wish they offered a traditional Buffalo wing sauce for the wings, but the HotZing sauce works almost as well. They offer a hot dog for their kids plate, but if your not in the mood for BBQ try it even if you're an adult. It's a little pricy but worth it. The ambiance is comfortable and the plethora of trophies decorating the place are a justified boast to the quality of the food they serve. My only complaint is the lack of a changing table in either bathroom. Otherwise the place is laid back and family-friendly. read more

I visited the area again recently and had a craving for BBQ after watching the Pitmasters show on TV. Since I had sampled the pork and brisket previously, I had a hankering for some ribs. Damn, those ribs were awesome. They had some good meat to them as well as incredible flavor. They pretty much fell off the bone, and I savored each and every bite. The only other thing new I tried this time were the hush-puppies and the pineapple side dish. The hush-puppies were what you'd expect, and the pineapple side dish was pretty much like a pineapple upside down cake, very tasty. Again, I'm very impressed with this operation, and I'll be sure to visit every time I'm in town for business. read more

I'm an MBN and KCBS certified judge and have had BBQ from hundreds of places. The ribs here tonight were probably the best I've ever had in a restaurant. Pulled pork was great, beans and potato salad was a 10! This place will not disappoint you. read more

Excellent Q! Not sure why it took me so long to find this place but definitely happy we did for those return trips from OBX to NoVA. Had the burnt ends and pork 2-meat plate with the beans and onion rings. Solid all the way around. I do like my burnt ends cut a bit more but that's on me to request next time. The flavor is a good smoke and rub just like I like. Three choices of sauce round it out. Oh and the tea and lemonade are fresh brewed for your blending preference. Stop by and enjoy on the way through! You won't be sorry. read more

Stopped in here for BBQ on our trip to Savannah and was challenged because I wanted to try so many sides. Unfortunately not all lived up to my hopes. I had the chicken with hush puppies and hot pineapple dish. All the meals come with corn muffin. The chicken was good but there were a few bones so be careful. It was tender and had flavor. Q has three sauces, original, sweet and spicy. I liked the spicy the best with a touch of heat. It's. It's not overly spicy. Just a tad. I squeezed it all over my chicken. See my pic for food presentation. Now the hush puppies were not what I expected or desired. They had deep fried oil taste which left me leaving it on my tray after a bite. Also, they should be served with warm butter in my humble opinion and trey only had cold slabs by beverage station. The hit pineapple dish is something I make and it was good but I was not in a sweet mood so I have to my dining companion. I did enjoy my companions fries. They had brisket and beans as well. Comments ranges form okay to average on their meal. I broke a corner off of the corn bread and it was okay. Meh. Same from dining buddie. Few tips: order at counter and they give you a number to place on your table. They bring food out to you. Self serve beverage station was great with cheer wine on tap. I had sweetened tea mixed with ade. Music piping through the dining area is good. I heard zydeco. Yeah. Staff super friendly and courteous. I know they win a lot of awards but not my fave Q. read more

I've been here million times and food has always been good here, no exception. No matter where I go, I miss wings here. Last night the collar green was a bit salty, so was the corn pudding. Other than that, BBQ chicken was moist and well cooked, pork sandwich was delicious. I wish there was chocolate pie, but I didn't see it. IPA was no longer sold for to go order. The manager - like gentleman was very sweet, and just like most visits, they were very friendly to customers. read more

The rub used on the ribs was good. No need for additional sauce. The greens were very tasty. Vinegar in greens was a very good touch. Mac and cheese was good. Corn podge was very tasty. Corn bread was moist and tasted sweety. Over all an excellent meal. Only concern is really the size of the side dishes. If you really are hungry you may wish to order a couple of the same thing if you really like the side dish. But was worth the stop. read more

I guess I should have examined the reviews a little closer to realize this was a fast food McDonald's style restaurant. As a native Texan, to the woman who compared this to Texas brisket, I have to say you must not have ever had real Texas BBQ. I'll start with the price. $16 for a plate of half rack ribs.... Frozen processed thrown in the microwave half rack ribs, a tiny scoop of microwaved Mac & cheese and flavorless fries. $8 kids meals (hot dogs or chicken tenders, the ribs were more) with the most flavorless tenders I've ever tasted. The BBQ sandwich was passable. Again I could have gotten better at the Cookout drive-thru. Yes I am a BBQ snob. Living in the south all my life I can't help but be. This is definitely the Burger King of BBQ. I would recommend hitting up the nearby Texas Roadhouse and spending about the same amount of money. read more

Great BBQ. Mostly a Texas style place, which I see.plenty of in Cali, yet the delicious pulled pork was not Texas style. I wanted carolina style and they delivered! They have great carolina sauce. The hush puppies are terrific. The meal comes with a piece of cornbread, which frankly was mediocre. Baked beans are great as well. The layout is a little weird since you have to stand in the dining area to see the menu. Minus one star because.the sides, while excellent, didn't quite match the quality of the pork. Kudos to the staff, who were engaged and super friendly. I would definitely come back here the next time I'm around. Great respite from the freeway! read more

Sweet sauce is the worst . Portions are very small. Mac and cheese tasted like it just came off the Cisco truck. For the amount of awards they have thought it would be a lot better. On the bright side , fast service and the hot BBQ sauce was pretty damn good read more

Was worried when we walked in and saw you ordered at a counter then waited at what looked like your routine fast food booth. But, I have to say, the ribs were great, as were the greens! This was the best restaurant / fast-service BBQ joint I've ever had east of Tennessee. Their ribs had a great flavor, nice tug, not dry at all...would take off a point for being thin... but hey...I'll take it b/c they actually smoked them correctly. The brisket again had a great flavor with a little spice and juicy. Though good, I would skip the brisket and just focus on ribs next time. Leave the brisket to the Texans who are born professionals. They also had EXTREMELY friendly service, hospital clean establishment/restrooms, & modern, large eating area with a nice viewing area for the baseball game on TV. read more

This is my first time eating at Q barbecue. The store is clean and has a nice family friendly atmosphere. There is also a TV. I ordered the chicken platter with collard greens and Mac and cheese. The chicken is thigh meat. It was tender and delicious. I was thrown off a little by the fact that the sauce wasn't on the chicken but that's not a big deal. The greens were good. They could have been cooked longer. No complaints on the Mac and cheese. I definitely will make this a stop on my NC to MD road trips. read more

The brisket was my favorite, the wait for my food after ordering was unexpected, and the sauces were average. I got the 2 meat platter, I had brisket and pulled pork. The brisket didn't need any sauce and I usually love adding sauce. The pork was good but not as good as the brisket. Collard greens or braised greens were yummy and the fries were fries. I preferred the hot sauce and the cornbread was good. I thought the portions were small. I got a doggy bag when I first sat down anticipating leftovers... didn't need it but didn't leave hungry. I'd suspect the sandwiches are the best value.... good luck and happy eating. read more

Small portions, expensive prices. BBQ is good and they have a variety of sides to choose from but meal for 2 people is around $25 which is a little much for a chain type place. Location over all is clean with friendly staff. read more

It's hit or miss here; there are still issues with consistency. Service is fine - not great, not bad - food is where I have my issues. Have had pork bbq sandwich before several times and sometimes it is dry /no flavor; sometimes wet with great taste. Ribs were fall-off-the-bone good one time; dry the other. Brisket was consistently BAD the three times I went there- overcooked, soaked in sauce, really salty and inedible. Slaw is average; mac and cheese average; hush puppies average. I just don't understand the 4 and 5 stars. There's better BBQ for the money and more for the money at Buz and Neds or other places. Average all around. read more

I've been here several times and the food is consistently good. I ordered the half rack of ribs, baked beans and the Mac N Cheese. The cashier was very friendly and helpful. Our order arrived in minutes. Ribs are meaty and the sides are glorious. You can't go wrong. I'm afraid that folks don't give this place a chance because it doesn't look like a dump. I always tend to think the same when I order and receive my meal at Q, "that's all I get for the $$"? However, I do not believe that I have ever left there either hungry or dissatisfied, I've never made it to dessert. We started going after (like some others) having heard of it and Tuffy Stone's "Cool Smoke" team on BBQ Pitmasters. The atmosphere is not what you would expect but it is always clean, fast and friendly. Depending on what time you go it may or may not be busy, it seems that around 6 is when things pick up, especially on the weekends. If they were located closer to home or work I would get takeout during the week. read more

Picked up my severely missed husband frOm the Airport after a week apart. Was looking forward to spending Tim me with him and a good meal. He wanted BBQ and I looked up all sorts of places. Ultimately he chose our tried and true Q BBQ on Brook Rd. Tucked intoo the end of a strip mall I think a lot of folks don't go I've it a chance because it's not a dive or greasy spoon. We were happy that the Burnt ends were not sold out yet. I got the two meats plate- pulled porkk, burnt ends, collards and Mac n cheese. Hubby got pulled pork, burnt ends, Mac n cheese and hush puppies. You have your choice of sauces aNd I went right for the Carolina vinegar on my pulled porK! It WAS great! Did I mention that the staff was super nice and the food came out quickly? They were and it did. I chose the regular sauce for the burnt ends. SO GOOD!! Collards has a great flavor but they realLy need to cut off the stems. I had a LOT of stems and big pieces of leaf that were hard to eat. The Mac n cheese looks like nothing special BUT OH BOY!!! It is flavorful and sublime. Wish I i could've eaten a GALLON of that Mac n cheese. Great meal, great staff, clean place. Gimme good food over greasy dive any day!! read more

Im going to be real with this. I went there for lunch today and was totally stoked because anytime I get brisket, my tastebuds go into super excited mode. Dont quote me wrong on this, but I think the owners of this place are definitely jewish, which is ok because I have a lot of friends that are jews, hell, even Jesus was a jew and he was a pretty cool cat. Anyways, I wanted to write this because my jaw hit the floor when I asked them how much meat do you get for their $10 (dinner plate;no drink), and the supervisor/owner on deck replied 4 oz. Just the other day I ate at Dickey's and was bummed out that you only get 6 oz. Folks, i fyour not getting at least 8 oz in the $10 range, then you are unknowingly getting ripped off. Also, they put shredded pork in the baked beans, as if there is some consensus that the entire population wants to eat an animal that wallers in its own crap! If they lived in Texas, they would be hung. (I lived there for a while, and its a beef culture) Typically you can judge a BBQ joint solely on the baked beans, and these were lacking molassess, onions, and TLC. I read the ingredients on their in-house BBQ sauce, high fructose corn syrup, pretty much the number one thing making kids obese these days. As for the atmosphere, it looks like a European coffee shop. This place is perfect if you have a small stomach and deep pockets. Well thats about it, go see for yourself read more

If I could give this a 0/5 I would. This place is extremely unethical to their employees. My boyfriend worked for this company for 6 months. During those 6 months, He encountered an episode of fraud which, upon bringing up to the head manager, was dismissed and he was told he must move to a different store. Now I'm not a business owner, but if someone was committing these acts while on my payroll, I would want them fired. Now not only have we dealt with this horrendous issue, he has since quit working here for their terrible management ways. Since quitting in September, he has not received his last check. It is now almost December and we are still waiting. Upon calling the head manager, NUMEROUS TIMES, we have been told-- another manager mailed it, the payroll company mailed it, "oh, I'll look into it", and I'll have them resend it. When asked if they could hold the check for pick up at a store location, we were told that they could not do this....So here we are, almost to Christmas and we still have not seen his final paycheck. So, here is my suggestion to the public that is interested in working here... find another job. It is not worth the time and hassle you will put in and you will end up disgruntled and frustrated. A final check should not take 8 weeks to arrive unless it is coming from China. read more

Q Barbeque is my first choice when it comes to barbecue. It's always delicious! Their barbeque dishes were packed with flavor and the meat was so tender and juicy. The variety of sauces they offered was a nice touch too. The only thing to note is that it can get quite busy during peak times, so be prepared for a bit of a wait. But trust me, it's totally worth it! If you're a fan of barbeque, I definitely recommend giving Q Barbeque a try. read more

Wasn't expecting too much but this place is so good! Awesome bbq and awesome desserts (we got the coconut cream pie). My only wish was for the hot bbq sauce to be hotter, but i'm crazy. Meh not bad but nothing special. Ribs were decent but brisket didn't have much of a Smokey taste to it plus they chop their brisket and don't offer it sliced. Good brisket should be sliced. Prices are pretty reasonable but I probably won't go back. read more
