WASTE OF TIME !!!!! On Saturday August 22nd 2026 at 3:15 P.M. I wanted to try their food, so I went to their website and saw that I could get $5 off for my first online order, so I went ahead and clicked on that offer. I loaded up my cart and attempted to checkout. I received an error message stating that the system could not "create a POS transaction" or something to that effect. I assumed that I had made some sort of error entering my information or CC number. I reviewed my order and checkout instructions and tried again. I received the same error message about 3 more times, even after logging out and logging back in and trying to reload the cart and reenter all of my CC information a few more times. I switched from my phone to my laptop and continued to try and place an order, to no avail. I received the same response each time regardless of the method and information. I began to wonder if the $5 off coupon was the "issue". When my multiple attempts failed, I decided to call place my order or at least let them know of the issue. That was a huge mistake. They use an AI system to take calls and it gives limited choices. When I explained my issue to the AI bot, it immediately sent a text link to my phone, while I am still talking to the bot. It said, "the best way to order is to visit our website and I will send you a link now", then my phone pings with the link. The link was directly back to the same exact broken website. Completely useless !!! I decided to call again and request to speak to ( imagine this) a real LIVE person. Ha...right? Like that was going to happen. So the bot gives the option of "Manager", so that is what I requested. It played some music for a few seconds, then returned to inform me that all of their staff were "busy" at the moment and proceeded to end the call after thanking me for WASTING my time. I attempted to call a couple of more times thinking that eventually someone would be available to (get this) speak to a customer, which resulted in the same frustrating ending. After about an 45 minutes of this complete nonsense, I decided to go to another BBQ place about 3 miles from this restaurant. I ordered the food in about 4 minutes online. In about 30 minutes I was back at home enjoying a wonderful BBQ meal with ribs, pulled pork and even some catfish with great homemade sides. So if you would like to order a good meal online with no hassles, avoid this place. The very least they could do is ANSWER THE PHONE. read more

This was my first visit to The Fishin' Pig. We arrived about 40 minutes before closing and were warmly greeted by a young man at the door and seated immediately. Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and helpful with menu suggestions. We started with the fried pickles appetizer, which was the highlight of the meal--crispy, flavorful, and definitely worth ordering. Based on our waitress's recommendation, I ordered the pork skillet, but unfortunately it wasn't very tasty. The fish and skillet platter was decent, but it would have been better with tartar sauce, which wasn't available. I also wasn't a fan of the barbecue sauce. I frequently drive by it, so I made the decision to grab fish and give it a try, even if it wasn't one of my favorite places. The dish simply lacked flavor, but our waitress was fantastic--shout out to her. My drink and the bang bang shrimp were the only things I enjoyed. Both the catfish and the wings could have been crispier. It came out soft, so they fixed it for me. For people who don't consume meat, there weren't many options overall. We went in for a late lunch to check out Fishin Pig. First, the service is excellent and attentive and friendly. Could not have asked for a better experience in a casual setting. The facility itself is decent, with a bar in the back and televisions (locked in) at some tables in that area. Small selection of draft beers, including some interesting ones like Summer Shandy. Bathroom situation on this day was really not good.... two of three were out of order and the remaining one was locked the entire hour plus that we were there. I assume this has been dealt with. Food and drink: We started with fried pickles. I know I know, I am still a college kid at heart. These were very good. Cut lengthwise rather than in small slices, which is a big plus. And don't miss the cilantro dill remoulade! I couldn't stop eating them. Catfish was absolutely excellent. Nice breading, good bun. (The slaw was meh.) Portion is huge. The brisket was, sorry to say, dry and on the tough side. I know brisket is hard to do perfectly, it can be perfect coming off the heat and then get tight, or start out moist and dry out. This wasn't BAD, just average. I used one of the three offered sauces on the table to salvage it. And hey, I didn't leave any behind so..... Sides: mac and cheese and baked beans are both top notch. I've been here three times now and I am consistently pleased. The food was tasty, and this time I had the fried pickles and I like that they're crunchy on the outside and some tenderness/juicy ness on the inside. A nice combination and not greasy. The bbq is always on point. They have several types of bbq sauces also. Not to mention they also do dry rub if that is your preference. I like dry rub. I also like having the option of having various types of sauces should I want to add some zip to my bbq! The servers are friendly and attentive. Parking is nice as this is in a plaza that is well-lit. I like the ambiance too, because if you want to see sports, you can easily go to the back of the restaurant where there are several tv screens for sports. They also have Buzztime trivia, which is pretty fun too. I like that you can hang in the front section and be happy and you can also hang in the bar area and be happy there as well. I like the decor also and the ambiance is a lovely mix of family, couples, and friends. And this is a clean establishment. I like that as well. Also, I've had the catfish and pork and not once has it come out dry or bland. I'd like to speak with my yelp elite colleague about her experience, as I've been here 3 times and not once have I had sub-par bbq. I came here on a Saturday afternoon and got the two fister with brisket and pork($15) and pork rinds ($8). The pork rind came out quite quick in under 5 minutes and were freshly fried. They were very crispy and seasoned good. After another 10 minutes the main came out. The brisket was disappointing, it wasn't really seasoned well and felt a bit dry. The pork had good texture and tasted well with the BBQ sauce. The homemade coleslaw was very bland, it felt like straight cabbage with no sauce. Mac N Cheese was quite solid. Staff and service were great! Overall the food was alright, could be a work in progress as it only been open for two week and are getting things figured out. We visited for lunch for the first time and we really like the layout of the restaurant. They have a lot of large booths and they cover the tables with brown paper and have crayons at each table. I love the brown paper for the cleanliness and fun!! We were warmly greeted and promptly seated by the hostess. We found all of the staff to be friendly and the manager stopped by to check on things as well. We had the Better Than Bang Bang Shrimp and they were delicious. Our entrees included a pulled pork sandwich, the pork and catfish platter and a brisket sandwich. We felt that the pulled pork was a little dry and the catfish had a little too much breading. I wanted to love the Richmond location because I go to Fishin' Pig when I'm in the tidewater area. Needless to say, I didn't enjoy it and I will give them some time to work the kinks out. I was raised in Kansas and lived in Texas for 20 years. I've eaten BBQ in so many different locations and of so many different styles I've lost track of them all. Something had to be wrong during our visit to The Fishin' Pig, because it was maybe the worst BBQ I've ever eaten. I ordered the $35 sampler plate with ribs, brisket, sausage, pulled pork and chicken wings. The ribs were burnt so badly the crust tasted like charcoal (see included photo.) The brisket was flavorless and had zero crust or seasoning. The pulled pork was dry and also flavorless. And the chicken wings had no seasoning whatsoever outside a thin coating of overly sweet, watery sauce. The sausage and hush puppies were the only good things on the plate. The service, however, was excellent, and our waitress quickly got me another order of ribs after I pointed out how burnt my first rack was (but they should have never left the kitchen in that state.) My spouse had the catfish platter, which along with the hush puppies, sausage and the fried pickle appetizer we had before the meal turned out to be the best things we ate. When the catfish is the best item at a BBQ restaurant, there's a major issue. I hope our experience was a one-off, and whoever was running the kitchen tonight probably shouldn't be allowed to do so again. Regardless, we won't be back to check. read more

New to Insbrook but definitely a popular spot by the way of FarmVille. Stopped in to get a gift card but couldn't resist trying something to go. Off top customer service was top tier, everyone was professional and helpful! Very clean and spacious space too! So I opted to try their chicken toes (makes me chuckle) and baked beans and it was served piping hot! Great portion of chicken seasoned well but the meat itself was a bit bland but dip that piping hot toe in that honey mustard (3.9/5) and the baked beans were good too with bits of meat in the beans, seasoned well tho I prefer a slightly sweeter bean myself they were tasty (3.7/5). Bad decision! 10 minutes after my order was supposed to be delivered I received a cancellation notice because they are too busy. Seriously! Tried to go to a restaurant nearby but they aren't open for Saturday lunch, so we tried this place. 10/10! Sat immediately, served didn't come quickly which the hostess noticed so she took our order and brought drinks. Entree came out with scallions which we'd said absolutely shouldn't be on it. It was quickly remade (they didn't just take the scallions off) and brought out with apologies and hostess said they took 1/2 off the entree price. We never had to ask! I don't need a perfect experience, but when it isn't and it's handled so well, it might as well have been perfect to start. We are definitely coming back. Besides the great service and welcoming ambiance, the food came out quick and properly made. The pork BBQ was moist and plain, good. That way I can choose what seasoning and sauce I want on it. The catfish was done correctly, thick batter and moist fish, no empty spaces or overheated fish. My wife had the smoked sausage bowl, and she loved it. The mac and cheese were good, no complaints. If you want QR-code menus and stuffy servers, go elsewhere. I love bbq and catfish, so I really wanted to like this place. The pulled pork was fine, though rather dry and not really tender. Nothing really exceptional about it. The catfish, though, was terrible. It was mushy inside, probably because it had been thawed improperly and maybe not dried off before being breaded and going in the fryer. The first bite was stomach-turning. I tried a bit of all three pieces, and all had the same problem. I complained to our waitress, who told me that's "how our catfish is -- it's buttery." She at least referred it to a manager quickly. The manager offered to bring me a new batch, but at that point, I couldn't imagine taking another bite of fish. Thankfully, they refunded the price of the entree. I also started to wonder why we had no offer of refills on our drinks. I finally caught the waitress to ask for one, only to be told they were out of Diet Coke. She pronounced, "It's just unlucky for you today!" What she did not do was offer me anything ELSE to drink. The first time we tried to go there was a 45 minute wait, so we assumed it would be really good with that kind of wait. We came back later in the weekend and it wasn't what we expected. The food: We ordered the brisket platter and the smoke shack sampler. The hush puppies come with honey butter and they were pretty tasty. The best part of the meal was the chicken wings and green beans. Which really says something about the food. The brisket and ribs weren't very flavorful and overall lackluster. Definitely don't think the brisket was smoked. It was pretty gray and unappealing. The ribs had hardly any seasoning as well. The andouille sausage was on the spicier side, but still good. As for the sauces, they have 3 available. The sweet Memphis is like straight brown sugar, way too sweet. The Carolina sauce and the spicy Texas were average. The service: Took about 5-6 minutes for our server to come over and greet us, which was fine. Not great, but fine. While she was at the table she was good. Offered to water down my daughter's lemonade, which I appreciated. The appetizer came out within 10 minutes and our food came another 10 minutes after that; so pretty good. At the end of our meal the servers were standing in a group and talking. We ended up having to flag down another server for our check and the box. It is a good amount of food but the quality wasn't the best. The ribs were unseasoned and had too much fat. The sausage was burnt and dry. The pork had no flavor and was definitely over cooked. The wings were good and had a hint of buffalo flavor. The brisket was gray, overcooked and dry. The hush puppies were like eating old grease. The baked beans were very good but the texture was like a paste. Overall great environment and customer service but the food just wasn't good at all for that price. Today a friend and I had lunch at The Fishin' Pig. I had the brisket platter and she had the brisket sandwich. Delicious ! The brisket had great bark and was ever so tender. The sides (baked beans, sweet potato fries, and huspuppies) were all very good. I would've preferred to have had plain butter rather than cinnamon butter for my hush puppies. I went in today planning to have ribs for lunch, and was disappointed to learn that the ribs would not be available until after 2 o'clock. That should have been printed on the menu somewhere. Drove about 40 minutes to get to this location about 3 weeks ago. Didn't start off really good as we walked into the lobby and we were completely ignored by 1 male and 2 female employees that were chatting at what I would consider the hostess counter/area. We had to actually ask if we could be seated. Once seated it took our female server quite a while to come over to get our drink orders, however she was pretty polite once she arrived. I asked a couple of questions about menu items to which she couldn't answer. Instead of her offering to check with someone else to get me an answer she just said that she didn't know. Next I ordered the wing appetizer. Wings were cooked well, however they lacked any real flavor. I asked her a question about the wings which she said she would get an answer from the kitchen. I waited, waited, and waited for her to come from the kitchen with an answer, which she never did. I was trying to wait, but didn't want the wings to get cold. When she returned from the kitchen she walked by my table and went to the hostess area to join the employee chat session. I ended up getting up approaching her at the hostess area, and asked her for the answer to my question. I next received my catfish dish which was missing one piece of fish. Once again my server was nowhere to be found, so I went to hostess area to ask for a manager. The manager came over a short time later, acknowledged that I was missing a piece of fish, and returned with the fish in a timely fashion. Our server never responded back to the table to check if we needed anything, and I had to flag her down for refills, and even to get our bill/check. The funny thing is that when we received our bill/check it had a review card attached to it. I filled that card out, listed my issues and the name of the server and hand delivered it to the lady that identified herself as the manager. I think that the review card was just thrown in the trash after I left. The reason that I say this is I believe that when you fill out the card and give email address you are also signing up to receive promotions and information from the restaurant. They obviously didn't sign me up, as I have not received any emails from them. With the things I have heard about this place I really wanted to enjoy it, however it was really a huge disappointment. The service was wonderful and the food even better! We were just passing through and stopped at Whitley's to buy peanuts. While there we asked Tammy where to eat and she recommended The Fishing Pig and we are so glad that she did. I had the fried shrimp tacos and they are the best that I have ever gotten at a restaurant. My husband had the brisket and it was seasoned and cooked perfectly.
