My wife and I were enjoying the SCHS's church tour in Beaufort when we walked down to Bay Street to look for a place to eat lunch. We were quite surprised and also delighted to find a barbecue place close by. We were seated outside at our request and enjoyed the gorgeous view of the water while being able to watch some college football on the TV screens. My wife ordered the Veggie O'Dilla which was a quesodilla with just peppers and cheese. The small size is certainly enough for 1 person. I ordered the Q-Ban which obviously is a play on word for a Cuban sandwich. It had everything i was craving including pulled pork, cole slaw and Swiss cheese. For my side dish, I asked for the mac & cheese. The waitress came back to tell me they had just run out. When my food was brought to the table, it did have the mac & cheese. She mentioned they had made a new batch. I'm glad they did because the Mac & Cheese was also a treat. Housemade and delicious. They also have a great selection of craft beers on draft and in bottles. This restaurant is located on the strip downtown. You can access it from the main street or from the side facing the water. We've been here a handful of times and it is always a solid meal. As you wait you can give the front desk your phone number and they will call when your table is available. The most recent visit we were told it would be a 20 minute wait but it ended up only being about 10 to 15 minutes. The cheese fries we ordered I decided to add pork too. It was pretty good. I wish the fries would have been spread out more so the cheese could've been evenly distributed. Their wings were solid and the collards were delicious. The turkey melt was good as well. I ordered a cider and it was definitely beer. I took two sips and didn't touch the rest. I informed our waitress but it wasn't substituted and was left on the bill. I would return. Beaufort South Carolina, it was for a while one of those southern gems where a lot of people would come and visit (for me it's family). It wasn't until the city made the NY Times list of Top Places To Go a while back and since then, everyone comes looking and putting their stamp of approval for something good locally. If you're looking for some bbq, then I would definitely say that Q On Bay is one of a few go-to spots locally for some good BBQ. The location of the restaurant is in the heart of downtown Beaufort and you can enter either through the streets or on the Bayside which opens up to a large field with a fantastic view of the water. During this trip, we had a chance to experience multiple different items ranging from the Tiger Shrimp & The Game Day Combo, something which included chicken wings and ribs along with multiple sides. I have to say, all the food was good, especially the chili cheese fries and cocktails. For the sides I went with the Mac & Cheese and collard greens. Oh, and they have a variety of BBQ sauces at the table if you want to add more. I felt like it was just enough but did make a small portion by combining 2 of them. They have a nice selection of mixed cocktails but also your normal beers on draft so you definitely should consider this place as a location when your meet and greet with friends and family. It's good but it has room for improvement. The Barbecue Sandwich came out without the sauce and I had to ask for sauce. It was supposed to already be on the sandwich. It was dry. They depend too much on the slaw. We sat outside as the music was so loud inside and my mom wanted to be away from people as much as possible. Then they sat a large family right next to us outside with children so she asked if we could move. Once moved to the sidewalk, it was great. The wind was cooler over there anyway. To put it simple they did not meet expectations. I ordered the barnyard which comes with pulled pork, pulled chicken, brisket, ribs and 2 sides which I chose coleslaw and baked beans. The ribs were good but little, brisket was the best out of everything, the pulled chicken was basic pulled chicken and dry and the pulled pork was basic pulled pork, the shrimp was fried well and was fresh but flavorless. The beans were horrible (worst I've ever had), very dry and flavorless. The coleslaw was tasteless and the macaroni and cheese was pretty good. The portions of meat were small, sides were decent. I ordered a salad with 3 portions of meat; chicken, brisket and shrimp. The added meat cost $5-$6 each and were maybe 3 ounces each. The salad was $15 and only a huge pile of lettuce with 4 thin cucumbers and half a small tomato. We felt the price we paid was quite a bit more than the quality of the food. Also the chicken was dry and brisket was bland. On the flip side the shrimp was the best part but had so much seasoning on it the texture was gritty. We were seated at a location where there was high traffic and servers needed the walk through to serve the other customers. There was limited seating and we were.not allowed to mingle because of the walk way. The staff was grumpy, the manger was rude and no one smiled. So I've eaten here a few times now and honestly coming here can be a mixed bag. My first time here I was not impressed. I felt the food was overpriced for what I got. Unfortunately I cannot tell you what I had but all I know is I was not happy and vowed to not come back. However, I would recommend a couple of options now. I tried Q on the Bay during Restaurant Week and had their steak. It came with a potato side but you can pick your side if you come at a different time. During restaurant week the menu is set with different options but it's well worth a try. I had a three course meal for $25. I choose the Caesar Salad and then the Chocolate Chip cheesecake (it was soooo delicious but very sweet. If you try this dessert at a different time I would recommend splitting it with someone.) I enjoyed the food but not sure if I would order the steak again as I had to cut a lot of fat off of it. But let me tell you about the Portobello Melt. It was DELICIOUS! I saw a review on here, I think it was from about a year ago, that was not impressed with this entree. The picture did look different from what I had today so I believe the owners were taking that feedback into consideration because they have upped their game on the Portobello Melt. The waitress had mentioned that they marinate it and she mentioned some of the ingredients but unfortunately I can't remember. All I know is it was a yummy meal and is a great option for vegetarians. I chose a side Caesar with it and the meal was filling. The cost of the Portobello Melt was $9 and my bill was $9 and some change (I had water with lemon to drink). All in all, I would say take a risk and try Q on the Bay. They have outside seating and you can't beat the view when we have beautiful weather. read more

Quite possibly had one of the most ridiculous experiences at an establishment that I've had in a long time. We were told there was a 45 minute wait for outside seating despite there being numerous open tables. After an hour wait, our seat was finally ready. We sat down at around 7:30. We did not get our food until 9:00! The waiter was barely existent. He brought the wrong drinks to us and I had to remind him about my beer after 15 minutes. The only reason I did not give a 1 Star is because the food was good. Not worth the wait and extremely poor service though. Ambience was poor also. When we were sat outside on the patio it was dark and they had zero lighting. We had to ask one of the waitresses to turn some lights on. Then a band started playing about 9:30 and they set up a speaker 10ft. away from our faces. Would not recommend eating here. While the food tastes good, so does chic fil a. Stopped in for lunch with my husband, visiting from out of town. Looked like a nice place until we were seated by a hostile employee. We were just left sitting at the table with no water, not one employee came to the table to ask if we were being taken care of. I did ask a waitress for water and why the other tables were being waited on and we had been sitting with nothing for 15 min. . HER RESPONSE WAS NOTHING BUT AN DIRTY LOOK! We just walked out with no one saying a word to us! They were just looking at us walk out, no words just odd looks. This was the most gross, weird, strange place. RUDE! My family and I were visiting Paris Island for my son's graduation from the Marines Academy. We decided to venture down to the waterfront in the city of Beaufort. While there we decided to have dinner at the Q, after reading the great reviews on Yelp. The food was great, and the wait staff was quick and attentive. I really enjoyed the atmosphere. I read a few complaints about the music being too loud but for us it was the the right volume for us to carry on a conversation without talking loud and loud enough for us to sing along on some do the songs. I got two reviews on Q on Bay before I walked from my car to the restaurant. Both people gave it top honors. We were seated right away. Lots of vibe here, big screen TV's, nice bar and a huge chalk board that had about 50 craft beer choices. Can you say beer snob heaven!! I ordered "The Barnyard" which comes with pulled chicken and pork and pork ribs and brisket and two sides ($18). My two sides were collard greens and loaded grits. Our order arrived in about twenty minutes and looked fantastic. There is a lot of food. I couldn't finish it all. The food was very good both in seasoning and temperature. The table has 3 sauces, honey mustard, BBQ sauce and a vinegar based Carolina sauce. The greens were savory but not spicy. The loaded grits were fantastic. Was a great experience. When we got back to our hotel there was the manager she asked where did we eat? We told her Q on Bay and she said she loved that place.
