Best darn 1/2 cheeseburger around!! I ordered it after the cashier said the burgers were good! Imagine a Double Del Cheeseburger on steroids...it came with 2 large Pattie's on it!! It was delicious, sesame seed bun, two Pattie's, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, thinly sliced onion...perfection! Only $6.80!! Also ordered an all meat Carnitas burrito, very good as well!! Ok so I am not the biggest carnitas fan in the world and well I have learned that this is the place for carnitas... well turn that on its head, I went pollo and carne asada! But hey if I am having pork in my tacos I want Al Pastor not carnitas. So yeah this place is intriguing to say the least. I used to work near this place and a bunch of the office would come here regularly for burritos. However it was always the pollo or asada not the carnitas so I have a precedent. I had a few tacos here as well. Fast forward about 9 years and I am here to grub again and get a couple of tacos. Pro Tip: Get your grub to go on a hot day, they don't have AC, or it is simply super hot in here =\ So I get my tacos to go and make it back to my office pull those bad boys out, douse them with a bit o the "spicy" sauce and grub down. They were just so so. Very average. Not a bad thing, but not a great thing either. Overall to me this is just another taco shanty and if you like carnitas, most likely you will like them here. So an average joint overall. Nothing spectacular, nothing ridiculously bad either. Basically if you are hungered and in the area and craving a taco come here... if not go somewhere else and do not take the chance... remember nothing ventured nothing gained and the greater the risk the greater the reward! read more

Carnitas burrito...'nuff said! Get the carnitas burrito and your stomach will be happy. I got taken to Q-tortas for the first time 25 years ago with a bunch of drunk bikers after a party. Wow I wish I had a picture of that day in Q-tortas history. 20+ hard core bikers, several wearing sombreros, several cases of beer and a boat load of good Mexican chow. The locals even vanished that day. Someone threw a burrito my way and when I asked what it was "shut up and eat it" was the response I got. Luckily for me it was a carnitas burrito and so my many years of Q-tortas eating began. Drunken biker style. I have eaten many other things at the Q. since then. The asada is pretty good, as is the adobada and the chicken. I have had tacos, sopes and tortas, but my fav will always be the carnitas burrito. It must be the way the beans and the carnitas and salsa mix on my tongue. Maybe its the lard in the beans?? Don't know. But I love 'em. This is defiantly not my go-to Mexican fix, but when I'm in the hood (literally) I like to stop in for a burrito. I'll be back. read more

MEAT!!!!! Ordered the carne asada torta and I can't believe how much meat was packed into that thing! You definitely get your money's worth at $3.95 +tax for a torta. They don't mess around. The meat itself wasn't too flavorful and I got more chunks of fat than actual meat. Eck! The bread was soft and chewy except for a few parts that went soggy from the pico de gallo. Perhaps I came at an off time and ordered the wrong thing. I've often wondered why people in North Orange County (or more specifically Yorba Linda and Anaheim Hills) don't venture more into old town Placentia. It has many options for real Mexican food, which is also good Mexican food. Q-Tortas doesn't disappoint on flavor and options. Chile verde, carnitas, etc., are all very tasty and well priced. I don't think the ambiance, cleanliness, or asada is their strong suit. I think pork is their strong suit, and with that pork power, they can elevate you above the need for a clean, freshly painted, smiling wait staff place. It's here to serve a need of really good Mexican food. It's inexpensive, and you can usually find parking on the street. It's in close proximity to other great Mexican restaurants, which is not a bad thing- it makes you feel like the competition raises the stakes. I highly recommend this place. I recently wrote a review about Esther's taco house in which I explained why Esther's is not good Mexican food. Maybe their staff should have lunch and Q-Torta and learn a thing or two about good Mexican food. Then again, Esther's is consistently busy and Q-Tortas is a hole in the wall, take out establishment that has seen its share of hardship over the years. I think a place like Esther's does a better job of understanding its typical customer and how to captivate that audience. Q-Tortas is good but it's not amazing. So amazing it would build a following that would make it more important that Esther's. But that's difficult to do when you offer cheap prices, so I think they do a great job of balancing good food with cheap prices and they risk financial problems for not faking something they are not. read more

QT has been an institution at least as long as I've been rattling around this old town (35+ years now, and counting). It's cheaper, faster and more casual than el farolito across the way, but the taste is just as authentic, IMHO. Plus, the old school walk up counter and the same 70's plastic tables bearing the scars of nearly a half century of initials carved for bygone first loves and local peewee cliques, hold a special place in my heart. I'm partial to the all-meat carnitas burrito con extra pico de gallo, myself. It's usually enough to feed me two meals in a row. Get the tacos dorados for old school crispy fried tacos, which seem to have become a rarity at most Mexican eateries these days. Also, I know people who rave about the burgers, even tho I can't bring myself to order one when burritos and tacos are clearly in this place's wheelhouse. But I believe the hype because this hole-in-the-wall joint takes no-nonsense, low-brow eats rather seriously. read more

Went here the other day and was surprised how nice the cashier was and the exterior was very clean. The prices are very reasonable and portions are good. You can't eat inside right now because of covid19 but all the workers are wearing masks and so are about 99% of the customers while we were there. We tried a few things which were all good (chicken taco, chicken sope, bean and cheese burrito). The only negative was there Coke was flat. They do accept credit or cash and I do recommend going. Definitely plan on coming back and trying more. read more

Nothing beats homemade Mexican food on a cold, rainy day. Okay, maybe I can't speak from personal experience, but the food here tastes a lot more authentic than, say, your local Taco Bell joint. I got the Green Chile Pork burrito. The pork almost melts in your mouth from being slow-cooked for so long yet still has a bit of a bite to it. Trust me, the consistency retention helps prevent it from turning into a giant roll of mush because the only other ingredients in this hearty burrito are refried beans and chile verde sauce. The burrito could use an extra kick to it, but other than that the flavors pretty solid. Q-Tortas fries up and serves thicker chips than most Mexican food joints. Rude customer service right off the bat. The food took 20 minutes for a bean and cheese burrito and a jamon torta that came out with cold meat and cheese. They made no effort to be friendly. I love supporting local small businesses rather than big corporations but we should have just gone to subway if we wanted a cold nasty sandwich like what they gave us. Ordered a bean and cheese quesadilla and wanted to substitute cheddar cheese instead of American cheese(who makes them with American cheese?). The young girl told me that they can't do that because they just recently got new cooks so they didn't train them how to substitute cheddar cheese and only the old cooks knew how to do that. Didn't know that adding cheddar cheese instead of American cheese takes some kind of special chef training. This same girl gives me the same attitude EVERY time I visit. Last time she was upset I asked for cheddar cheese to be substituted so pretty sure she just made this up this time. I used to work near here, and got their food to go all of the time! The workers were friendly and would even bring me my meal sometimes. One time, my enchiladas were cold so I brought them back. They were returned to me with a couple inch big hole in the bottom of the Togo container (like they had microwaves the whole container), and sense then, I have not returned. This spot made an instant good impression with me when I saw the painting of the smiling pig getting boiled to death in a large pot on the side of the menu. It only got better from there. I ordered the torta (when in Rome, right??) with carne asada and it was delicious. It came on a soft roll with plenty of meat, refried pinto beans, and chopped tomatoes, onions, and jalapenos on top. A very tasty and moderately spicy red salsa is served on the side. My friend ordered the carnitas torta and was very happy as well. The horchata was a bit watery and didn't contain enough cinnamon, but that could have just been the batch. The tortas are wonderful though, and the price ($4) makes it a great lunch spot. The best hole in the wall place we have ever been to. My family and I have been going here for years when we lived in the area. I now live in riverside county and still drive all the way over here for a tostada along with my husbands torta. The pico de gallo is my favorite and I'm a very picky eater.
