I recently moved from Denver, CO and joined Charlotte Athletic Club primarily for the location and…read morewalkability to Uptown. From signup through cancellation, the experience was consistently poor. The signup process was unnecessarily difficult. You cannot sign up online or over the phone and must come in person. I arrived during hours I was told a manager would be present, only to find they had left early, requiring an additional visit to complete enrollment. The gym charges $150 per month per person, with additional costs for lockers, an extra month (extra $150) due on signup, and a facility improvement fee every six months. Despite the price, there is no coat rack or place to store even a jacket. Communication is "you must pay an extra amount for lockers each month" even though lockers are framed as an optional amenity. Charging for lockers in the first place is grubby. Every gym I've attended in the past includes them for free. Pool access is advertised. The pool is actually pool access passes included in membership to the Omni Hotel pool, we were told it was to be opened fall 2025, it has remained closed. This was communicated after signup. The equipment itself is fine, but there is no water bottle refill station, and the water available specifically says "don't fill your water bottle up". It's a gym. Who wants to use a small paper open top cup when working out. Bathrooms are often not clean. If you're coming in in the afternoon for workouts, the gym maintenance and cleaning happens then, so expect some vacuuming and hammering happening most days. But my primary issue is the staff experience relative to the price point. Front desk staff are often disengaged. A trainer instructed us to re rack weights that we didn't use. When we told him they were there before we used the machine he communicated "clean them up anyways". I rack weights when done using them. For $150 a month, if another gym member leaves weights behind, and this is noticed by the staff, I'd expect gym staff to care for the cleanup of other members weights left behind. And especially the first time, just unnecessarily hostile and unfriendly. There are many more similar interactions like this with staff. After I canceled my membership and requested my wife's remain active, a manager approached her requesting credit card information, the implication being "don't forget to pay" in a way that felt inappropriate. This is acceptable at a lower priced gym. Again, it's not what I expect at this price point. This is a premium priced gym with a good location and adequate equipment, but the service level does not match. I'm switching to another gym in the area.

Curious as to why there's a lack of transparency on the membership rates not posted in the website…read more Instead they want you to fill out a contact form.... From the moment I walked in and went to the front desk my experience was top tier. Carol was there to greet me and check me in. She was extremely kind and helpful. She asked if this was my first time and she was amazing from the very beginning. She gave me a lot of great info before the class and essentially broke everything down so I understood what to do and what to expect. The best part was Carol continuously helping me throughout the workout. It's been a very long time since I've worked out in a gym and I genuinely appreciated her so much!!! The class itself is a HIIT circuit training type class. You rotate from station to station and do different workouts. The music is loud, but not too loud, and is always a great playlist. Just how I like it lol. I love that you can go from kettlebell workouts to body weight workouts to boxing and so much more. It's a very non traditional type of workout and that's great because it's always different. There's also a great gym community. Other people in the classes are always friendly and helpful. It's really just a great gym community all around! Very happy I discovered them and really enjoy working out here!!!

I did not know what to expect, but they definitely made you WORK! You start off by doing a couple of warm-ups, and then the coach takes you around to different stations and demonstrates your workout in each station. Then you go off and start at whatever station you want and from there you go and take turns in between each station. I love that it's a total HIT lift workout. You do everything from weights, boxing, bicycles, and regular running. Completely loved the circuit vibes from it and the coach. I believe his name was Trey. He was AWESOME! he made sure to come and show you the correct way of doing the workout and just keeping the energy going. From the music, so the instruction. This is located in Noda, and they have a few parking spaces in the front but as well as parking lot towards the back of the building. Definitely enjoyed my time here.

They thought of everything from nutrition to massages & stretching. I truly appreciate the holistic approach that they aim for because a lot of gyms could feel like a "one-size-fits-all" methodology. I revisited YVY by trying one of their public classes, which was yoga. I'm not a yogi, but I was sold when I saw how attentive the instructor was. Her gentle approach made me want to come back because she gave me a space to just be a beginner at a practice that I'm not familiar with and she truly met me where I was at. They also offer wellness events where you get to explore other vendors throughout the CLT wellness space as well as get a feel for what their gym offers. What I really appreciate about my 1st week there was even before starting me off with workouts, they performed an assessment to see where I'm at. They highlighted my strengths as well as my areas for improvement. This highlights their uniqueness as a slew of gyms skip this crucial step and push you right into exercises, which can lead to injuries. I would recommend it here if you're looking for accountability coaches that want to take your fitness to the next level! Definitely worth checking out!

Liz the co-founder welcomed me and was very pleasant, she asked if it was my first time and registered my information. Afterwards she took me on a tour of the facility, I must say I loved how they decorated this place! It's not your typical gym at all. Very clean, green, white and cooper! So refreshing. Afterwards I joined the everyone that had arrived for the Friday fitness class. The music was great and the sun was shining bright through the 5 large windows. The class was intense, but just the push I needed! I typically am not much of a sweater no matter how hard I workout. But today that wasn't the case lol, our instructor pushed us but made sure it we went at our own pace. No weights, 100% body workout, you against your body. One of the guys in the class said, "I usually run about 5 miles a day, and this doesn't compare this was intense but I liked it!" Another person said she wasn't sure what to expect but watching everyone else work hard pushed her harder. Overall I throughly enjoyed bloc. and plan to return for another workout next Friday!

Bloc isn't the type of place where you go to work out, talk to no one, and leave. They really are working hard to instill the importance in community. They offer free summit coffee for these needed a cup. They want you to stay around, hang out and enjoy the space. That was a really cool and really awesome new concept for me. Coming from DC and NY all the exercise places are machines built to get you in and get you out fast. They aren't meant for hanging out and mingling. I really like this about Bloc! The work out was TOUGH. My girl friends and I went together and we all work out with a trainer and couldn't believe how great the workout was. It was set into 5 "stations", 3-4 rounds, done in an EMOM (every minute on the minute) timing. We did body weight exercises, conditioning, cardio, and boxing. Talk about a total body workout! Jamie was really sweet too - and an amazing trainer. She really worked the room to build up the energy and provide support. I will definitely be back!

I stopped by recently because it was convenient and brought a guest with me. Before doing anything, I asked the woman at the front desk how the guest policy worked. She didn't really explain it and instead just asked for my guest's information. I assumed she was simply checking the system to see if my guest had visited before. I stepped away for a moment to check whether the court was crowded, and while doing that, something came up that required me to leave earlier than expected. When I came back to the desk, I told her never mind and that I needed to leave. She responded, "It's okay, I sent the receipt to your email." That caught me off guard. I assumed it was just confirmation of entering my guest's information, especially since I thought guests used to be free (which is why I asked about the policy beforehand). When I checked my email, I saw that I had been charged $20. The issue isn't the money, it's the lack of communication. Before charging someone, the process and cost should be clearly explained. I've never had issues at the other locations I visit, so this felt like a one off experience, but it's enough that I probably won't return to this location.
