There were lots of food options, but the Garbos food truck stood out with the New England cuisine with an Austin twist. It was easy to place my order with the server and the food was prepared quickly considering the crowd size. I ordered the Connecticut-style lobster roll, and it definitely delivered with butter poached Maine lobster topped with Garbo's house seasoning, fresh lemon juice & scallions in a New England top-split bun. The lobster was warm, buttery, and packed into a perfectly toasted roll. You had the choice of salad, kettle chips or jalapeño slaw as a side. I went with the salad that was served with a Champaign vinaigrette dressing. For a festival setting like Two Step Inn, where food can sometimes be an afterthought, this stood out. It was quick, satisfying, and honestly a nice break from the usual fried options. A little pricey, but that's kind of expected at events like this. The downtown Garbo location is just as good as their food truck and larger storefront. The menu is slightly smaller, but the quality and flavor are absolutely still there. Shout out to the fish and chips this was great ! I really enjoyed this and it was made to order . The tarter sauce was really creamy and tangy I like that it wasn't chunky but unfortunately I ordered the mini lobster roll it was really disappointing . I order the fish and chips because I actually saw a guy have it and it was really just amazing looking . This place was on my "want to go" list for a while. We popped in while shopping in the area and actually really enjoyed our experience. It was not busy and we got have an inside seat at the bar top (the only indoors seating option). The service was attentive and friendly. They were out of couple of things but it was fine. We tired Connecticut lobster sandwich with Caesar salad and a couple of soft drinks. The lobster meat was very high quality and totally worth the price point. Garbos is not a garbo place. The normal lobster roll comes with a side. I highly recommend the Cesar salad. The sandwich itself was really good full of lobster claw meat. The food can be a bit pricey but that's cause it's quality lobster meat. They ran out of calamari this day which I would have loved to try that too. This location is pretty small with only indoor bar seating and some outdoor seats. But a Nice place to stop by in the area for a quick meal. read more

Some of my favorite items include: Raw oysters, whole lobster, lobster grilled cheese, spicy crab roll, smoked mahi fish dip, caesar salad, Shell's lemonade, mozzarella & lobster bites, fried calamari, crab cakes, fish and chips, and fish sandwich. I realize I listed out half the menu, but the food is just that good. I also really love their seasonal items, specifically the hatch chili lobster roll and hatch chili corn chowder. I reviewed the feedback prior to visiting Garbos. It was spot on for the most part. The food is definitely pricey and the portions are small. The food itself is very good, and the service was top notch. They brought out our water fast and the food came out incredibly fast. They have room for about 8ish people inside and a couple of picnic tables outside. Definitely would dine inside if able during the summer. I ordered the trio and a side of the jalapeño coleslaw. The trio was the maine, connecticut and special. The special was the fried lobster, jalapeno and honey. The best of the 3 was clearly the connecticut. It was simple and good with chunk lobster, really a decent hunk for the claw. The hint of mayo and acid was really good. The special was very good. It was lightly fried with honey that gave a good sweet and savory balance. The maine was still good, I would consider it a lobster salad. The jalapeno coleslaw was excellent. It was slightly sweet and not too sweet at all. The jalapeño spicy was enuf to be there while it did not overwhelm the dish. It's really hard to find good lobster rolls outside of New England, and Garbos hits the spot for me. I ordered the Connecticut roll, which comes with butter, lemon juice, and scallions. I was pleasantly surprised by the portions. Other lobster roll places can be really skimpy with the lobster, but my roll had a generous serving. The pieces were large and meaty. The seasonings were nice and didn't overpower the taste of the lobster. I would have preferred more lemon juice on mine, but that's more of a personal preference. The seating is limited to a few barstools inside, but luckily there wasn't any wait when I visited on a Sunday afternoon. I can't wait to come back and try their Maine roll next time. read more

Tasty but pricey! 4.5 stars rounded up. Great service and charming ambience, sitting indoors at the bar counter in the air conditioning. We walked over after some shopping at REI and it was the best treat. There also happened to be a little pop-up with the chef from Bacalar preparing some other menu items. We tried the oysters and they were delightful! The hardest decision is always whether to get the Connecticut or the Maine role - a good solution is to go with someone and get both and share. Definitely tables outside plus a walk up window too! Garbo's offers two kinds of lobster rolls: The Maine or Connecticut Roll, and a few other noteworthy options. I was able to try both rolls, but the prizewinning dish was the crab cakes!! The crab cakes were savory and crispy on the outside, and tender and well-held together on the inside. As for the lobster rolls, I highly recommend the traditional Maine Roll. The Connecticut Roll fell flat for me. The meat was chewy and dry. BIG CON: As much as I really want to like Garbo's, I expect excellence from a business that's been running for over a decade. The only place I know of in Austin that serves up authentic and sourced from Maine and Rhode Island, delicious lobster rolls! Pricey, but well worth it! They've got local beers and can make Margaritas too. This is owned and operated locally from folks that established this restaurant who hail from the Northeast. Definitely try this place! The lobster bisque was delicious especially since it was cold and rainy. Highly recommend trying both types of rolls as we were unable to pick a favorite. Crab cakes were good, although I would recommend the lobster rolls instead. This place is expensive - about $70 for small portions. Garbos was a pleasant surprise! We planned to go to Book People and happened to see the sign across the street. I loved the aesthetic of this little restaurant. We were greeted by the owner and she kindly went over the menu and offered suggestions. We ordered three mini rolls which were perfect for not being super hungry. If you are starving I suggest a full roll. My favorite was the special roll that had citrus in it. It reminded me of a lobster ceviche. The New England and Connecticut were also very good. I'm from Maine, have lived in Austin for 10 years and just am now getting around to trying Garbo's. The flavors were good on the lobster. Everything tasted fresh. The rolls were big and pillowy, and had that signature buttered & toasted flavor and look. The portions are the sole reason for my poor review. They cut a slit in the center, about half the length of the roll, and surreptitiously inserted one claw and a few other little pieces. The result was my first two bites on either side being all bread, then a little bit of lobster in the middle with some of the garnish on top. All for $32. In total our order was $60+ for two rolls which had very little lobster. I have been to Mason's many times and you can get a full-cut split-top bun there for $28 with about 3x the meat. And it's just as good. Garbo's is a massive ripoff. read more
