The drinks we ordered were very good. The porkchop we ordered was rubbery and absolutely covered in oil and peppers--literally couldn't taste the meat. The spinach that came with was absolutely obliterated by the same sauce. Not great for $45. Also ordered the halibut. It was then, overbreaded and, again, couldn't taste it. The hype is sometimes too impossible to ignore. Earlier this year, after years of pop ups and private events, Austin Oyster Co. opened their brick-and-mortar storefront off East Cesar Chavez. I've heard their name mentioned numerous times as providing some of the best oysters in Austin, and with my oyster expert (my girlfriend) visiting me for a week, I figured this was a better time than any to give it a shot. Alongside us was her oyster-suspicious best friend. On a random Tuesday, they still had a reservation available the morning of for outdoor seating, and we took that opportunity without second guessing it. Once we arrived, I had to park on the street since their small lot was completely filled. That's usually the case with most downtown shops. We were sat in their beautifully shaded patio. Taking a quick peek inside, they have a classic beach-side Cape Cod feeling to their establishment, like it was opened by a former member of Vampire Weekend. We were handed a regular menu plus their raw bar menu, which seems to rotate more frequently because, well, they're consistently importing oysters and that's the luck of the draw. I started with a Garden Party to drink while my girlfriend got the Barefoot Contessa. Our friend grabbed the Fairweather Cider they offered. We locked in on the menu. We ordered nine oysters from Prince Edward Island in Canada mostly for my girlfriend, who paired them with a side of fries, our friend nabbed their Clams Casino (banger name btw for those who know ball), and I greedily ordered their cheeseburger and a Scallop Tostada. They served us our drinks expeditiously, and not long after we received the Scallop Tostada from the raw bar. Everyone had a bite and was impressed. The tostada itself was crispy and taken directly from known and MICHELIN-winning taco shop, Nixta Taqueria. The touch of chili oil on top added the slightest amount of heat to the item that gave it a little more depth. It was impressive how well the concept worked together. Next up was the oysters. Some of the oysters were a lot larger than your typical affair. I'm not an oyster expert, but they were some of the best oysters I've ever had. My girlfriend is more of an oyster expert, and she also thought they were some of the best oysters she has ever had. She was impressed that a place in Austin is focused on importing quality oysters all the way up the map from Maine, Massachusetts, and even PEI in Canada. For how far those oysters must have traveled, it's extremely impressive how fresh they tasted and how much flavor they packed. They serve the oysters with all the fixings: hot sauce, mignonette, and horseradish plus lemon slices. After making the oysters disappear like we were David Copperfield, it wasn't long until the cheeseburger and the clams came out. The cheeseburger is made from Texas wagyu plus aged white cheddar, a dijon-infused mayonnaise, tarragon pickles, and onion. The burger was also served with an exorbitant amount of fries and their peppered ketchup. Glorious. The burger was super flavorful and had a lot going for it. I know it's atypical to grab a burger at an oyster bar, but it just sounded way too good. I'm glad I got it. I want to come back here for a date night and really indulge deeper in their oysters and their overall raw bar menu. The entire experience was not only made by the food, but also by our consistent and attentive service from our waiter Jorge, who made sure we were full on water and having a great experience. Austin Oyster Co. might be hard to get into on a regular weekend, but fear not, they're gonna be around for a while in Austin with service and experience like this, so you can afford to be patient. TLDR: Good, but not somewhere I'd be eager to return to Austin Oyster Co. has been on my list since they announced they were opening, so maybe my expectations were set a little too high. If you're trying to come for Happy Hour, heads up: it no longer exists. Instead, they've replaced it with "Summer Hours," which in other words they won't define means NO discounts, a limited menu, and seating either outdoors in Texas hell (aka the patio) or bar seating, which requires a reservation. TO ORDER: If you're ordering from the raw bar, your server will give you an order sheet for you to complete. Being that I lived in Maine for a quick stint, I was excited to see so many Maine options on the menu. But due to the summer hours, instead of spending $1.50 on east coast oysters, I ended up spending $4/oyster. In addition to our half dozens, our party of three shared the Bluefin Toro Crudo, the Scallop Tostada (gives a kick) and Bluefin Tuna Tartare. Every dish was beautifully plated, fresh, and full with flavor. But the portions.... were intended for ants or almond eaters. Everything was tiny (one slice of tuna crudo for each of us??!) and overpriced. We also split the Lobster Roll with brown butter. However, a little shocked to receive a warm, Connecticut styled roll over a classic Maine Lobster Roll (chilled lobster with mayo, celery & herbs). I also really liked the tom kha clams. Swordfish was cooked perfectly and the sauce was perfect for dipping the fries. I really loved the lobster roll and you get extra brown butter to drizzle/dunk/dip We finished off the meal with their desserts. This is brand new and you definitely need a reservation. The place is jampacked since you arrive. We did have to still wait a little bit for our table since the people sitting there we're not done yet. Meanwhile, we got some cocktails at the bar and they were interesting, but not really anything special in my opinion. Once seated, our waitress was very nice and helped us choose items in the menu. The oysters were OK. I don't think they were anything special and they were out of the main ones featured on the menu. Sadly, they were actually out of many things we wanted to calamari and they were out of that too. I have to say those big clams that you see in the photo were not for me. They tasted very fishy and I could not eat it. We also got the scallop tostada and I have to say it's good but knowing that you're eating it raw kind of freaked me out for a minute. Sadly, the main dishes were mediocre. The steak was doused in some sauce that was just whatever and the fries were dry. The burger, same deal it was OK not worth it in my opinion. I have to say that they definitely need to get better oysters for that being the main thing there. And there Andrea is a really need to step it up because there's nothing to them. For dessert we got the Keylime cheesecake which is also mediocre tasted a store-bought. I did expect more from it, but they are brand new. I have been so excited to try Austin Oyster Co since I became aware of its opening and my first time there did not disappoint. Located in the heart of the east side, they have managed to create a warm, inviting, perfectly curated northeast vibe to the space while still keeping it authentic to Austin. Many times you'll go to a new restaurant and notice a few things that they can improve on and think they'll figure it out with time but Austin Oyster has it all figured out already, and boy are they good at it. We had a Sunday evening reservation and sat at the bar. All of the staff we interacted with were so friendly & nice, including the owner himself. We had oysters, which are the best oysters I've had since moving to Austin. The scallop toastada was delicious. I got the burger which was unique and different in a sea of continuous smash burgers. And we closed it out with the key lime pie which I haven't stopped thinking about. If you love seafood, cooked and or raw, you will definitely enjoy! We were seated outside on their patio, which is really nice especially during golden hour! We started off with the Plateau, which came with, 6 oysters, 3 diablo clams, 2 tom kha clams, 4 shrimp cocktail, smoked whitefish salad. The oysters were east coast and super fresh! Loved the hot sauce and the mignonette that accompanied them. The diablo clams and tom Kha clams were the highlights of the plateau for me. The flavors are exciting, bold, spicy, and sour! We also got the calamari and cracklings. It was good but was on the saltier side and I felt the crispy pork was a little too oily. For our main, we shared the steak frites with swordfish as our protein. This was soooo good and the sauce and chives that accompanied the fish was perfect! Make sure to ask for some garlic aioli on the side to dip the fries in! The service was great and their bathrooms were quite aesthetic! OVERVIEW: 4.5 with potential to round up to 5. I was super excited to try this spot, as I'm a huge fan of oysters and seafood (especially in the Texas heat). This was hands-down some of the best seafood I've had in Austin! The vibes are truly upscale east coast summer-y, and the interior is cute. Food is good and on par with Austin pricing (so be prepared to splurge). Overall, I will definitely revisit to try other things. QUICK FACTS: - Parking? Yes, a small lot behind the restaurant and street parking Sun.-Wed.; complimentary valet Th.-Sat.! - Reservations? Recommended but not required. For larger groups or weekends, expect a wait without one. - Happy hour? No, not as of May 2026. Perhaps they will add one later on. FOOD RATINGS: - Tuna crudo, $12 (4/5): Super tiny portion (3 slices of tuna), but delicious nonetheless. - Scallop tostada, $16 (5/5): Incredible! Fresh and light with a tasty house-made chili oil. Loved this and would order again. - Seafood platter, $85 (5/5): A great way to get a little of everything! Had some wins and some losses at a dinner at Austin Oyster Co. Inside is decorated so coastal and cute, it'll make you feel like you're not in Austin anymore. It definitely feels like a fine dining experience. For appetizers, they had a great selection of oysters and loved their shallot mignonette. The clam stuffies were alright. The Johnny cakes were a great salty and sweet combination. I got the mussels and they were good not great. There were barely any shrimp and zucchini in them, it was mostly just mussels and broth. The broth had a great flavor though. The bread they served it with was rock hard. The lobster roll you can order warm or cold. I tried the warm and it was delicious! The shells and cheese was again good but not great, did not have a very cheesey flavor. The key lime pie was great! Really want to come back for the oysters, lobster roll and to try other things on the menu! Didn't get to try their martinis either and they bring them out with a bucket with a little refill. Love an oyster bar with solid cocktails. Reservations are highly recommended, if not required, especially because it's a new restaurant. My girlfriend and I arrived for our 9pm reservation. Our goal was to eat as many oysters as possible and pair 'em with dirty gin martinis. The raw oysters were all phenomenal, and $4/each. (They offer a granita dressing at an additional $7/each. We tried it on two. But don't recommend. Not for the price, and the oysters we got were exquisite on their own.) We also added a few seafood apps, and rounded the night off with wine. The Tom Kha clams (from the seafood tower), oysters, and calamari and cracklings were delicious and I would get them again The bad: My group ordered a seafood tower and no one came to explain which oysters were on the platter. The shrimp cocktail was kind of mushy (and also egregiously priced on the a la carte menu). The service was also pretty slow, and they forgot to give us utensils for a dish that required a fork. The lobster roll, which I've heard rave reviews about, was soggy, mid, and didn't have a lot of lobster in it. The rolls at Garbo's are a lot tastier and more filling, and come with more sides. My beef: On the menu, the seafood tower is clearly priced at $155. When I got home and looked at the check, I realized that the itemized receipt had listed it as $165, $10 over the listed price. read more

Finally I found an Austin restaurant that just nailed it. The menu from oysters to catch of the day is a masterpiece. We ordered 5 different dishes and I could have picked more. The oysters are fantastic. The scallop tostada is sophisticated delicious and hard not to want another. I had the mussels as well. Some of the most complex delicious flavors I have had in a long time. Even the sopping bread was perfect. Service is excellent. The team really works together incredibly well. My wife and I have had lobster rolls in Maine, Boston, California, Florida, etc. and Austin Oyster Co is by far has the best lobster roll we've ever had! The oysters were phenomenal, and the burger was savory and delicious. The fries are salted and cooked to a crispy perfection. The bluefin tuna tartare was fresh and had incredible flavor with not one ingredient overbearing the star of the show (the tuna). Not only is the food incredible but the vibes are spot on, with great music, a not too loud but still lively atmosphere, and thoughtfully coastal but-still-Austin atmosphere. The restaurant is super cute with New England inspired decor. The food was good, but overall I felt it was a bit pricier than other upscale oyster restaurants in Austin. Price aside, the food is quite good! The shells and cheese was so delicious with the broiled cheese on top. The shrimp cocktail comes with a lemony aioli and a black pepper forward cocktail sauce. The tuna tartare is unique for using a more fatty tuna and they have paired it with radish, nuts, and a light marinade. We also had the lobster roll which featured a fantastic light and buttery bread. I appreciated that it was lightly dressed to feature the lobster meat. The fries it comes with are light and crispy. I forgot to take a photo of this dish because it looked so good we just dove right in. I had a dirty martini and it was perfectly balanced. I was a bit disappointed they couldn't accommodate selling us a slice of key lime pie to go. They don't allow any take out, which makes sense for seafood, but I just love being able to take a dessert home to enjoy later. read more
