NEVER use their service department. A fifty dollar pulley went bad and they wanted a FIFTEEN HUNDRED DOLLAR REPAIR including replacing a "broken mount" which was in perfectly fine condition. It took 3 days to to get a hold of the service manager (left early for the day at 1 PM) (Didn't come in yet at 11AM) with promises to call me back that never happened. When I finally got a hold of him he said instantly that is what the mechanic recommended and would not let me talk to the mechanic. I had to REPEATEDLY ASK for them to ONLY replace the bad pulley. In the end that single FIFTY DOLLAR pulley removed by a SINGLE BOLT still cost FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS and a WEEK AND A HALF to replace and they demanded that I sign a document stating I refused recommended safety required repairs.... They practically held the car hostage and when their absurd repair estimate was rejected added another week to the repair as punishment. read more

I bought my Crosstrek here over a decade ago and have gotten it serviced here ever since so this review focuses on the service department. One of the things I like best about the service department is that they really don't try to upsell you on services you do not need. They will certainly point out any problems they think warrant attention, but they don't give you the hard sell. They do a very good job explaining everything. And one of the best qualities about the service department is how warm and welcoming the space is. They have a ton of varied seating areas ranging from comfy lounge chairs to work stations replete with electrical outlets so you can plug in your devices. There is also a high tech coffee maker which can instantly concoct myriad tasty coffee drinks. All in all, these things create a very comfortable environment while you await the completion of your repairs. read more

UPDATE TO MY REVIEW 4 YEARS AGO: I am on my 3rd Forrester and will never own another Subaru again because of the issues I have had with this car and this dealership. And the only reason I am giving 1 stars instead of 0 is because of Jonathan, the head of service, and how wonderful he is with his customers. And 0 stars is not an option. They sold me a lemon. Plain and simple. For the last 4 years, my car has been in for service over 20 times for things other than routine maintenance. The most memorable was a cracked steel bar under the driver's seat that turned my driver's seat into a rocking chair. I was told they would "graciously cover it just this one time but next time it would be $1800". Gee, thanks. What car has a steel metal bar break?! Apparently, a Subaru Forrester. Again, they sold me a lemon. But this week was the last straw. My car was in two weeks ago for maintenance and here I am two weeks later coming in for another issue. The service representatives have zero customer care and the sales team is even worse. I actually believe it is because I am a woman of smaller stature and they are sexist. They condescend women when they come in, don't address us when we are asking for assistance, and are downright insulting. I strongly encourage you to take a step back and reconsider this dealership. I never had any issues at the Branford Subaru and I believe none of this would have ever happened if I had just driven a little farther for a dealership I knew and trusted. I went to Quality in Wallingford because it's much closer to my home. Big mistake. Big. Huge. I have learned my lesson. I hope you learn from it too. read more

My car was bucking and I brought it in because it might have been the transmission. They charged me double the diagnosis fee to quote over $4500 in other repairs they could diagnosed but did not give me a reason the car was bucking which is why I brought it in. They said it would be so expensive that I should "just buy a new car" like I had that kind of money lying around. And did not give me a concrete figure on a repair, no error code, nothing. Brought it to a transmission shop who recommended to bring it to a regular garage because it turned out to be a an engine coil, costing me $350. I love supporting locally owned businesses, but this one just does not cut it. I took my mother here for a routine oil change. She made an appointment yet we still waited almost two hours for the change to be complete. I tried not to get annoyed, but seriously? It's an oil change. I also expected the usual upsell because large autobody places do that, especially dealerships. But they really overdid it in that department. They quoted over $1000 in various repairs that I honestly thought were not necessary. I figured it must be a liability not to say everything that could possibly go wrong in the car in the next 10 years, so I let it slide and declined all the services they suggested. My mom, however, felt nervous about her car, so I took it to my mechanic in Bristol who has been working on Subaru's and other foreign cars for over 30 years. My mechanic laughed at the mention of Quality Subaru and said even for a dealership, they're insanely greedy about diagnosing problems and trying to upsell to customers. He inspected the car and found absolutely nothing wrong with it. At another time, my brother took his Subaru down the road from Quality Subaru to get a part for his window. The mechanic literally a block from the place told him not to order anything but an official Subaru part, yet STILL warned my brother NOT to order from Quality Subaru because he said they are dishonest. My brother ordered from a different Subaru dealership on the mechanic's advice. These are two separate incidents involving a male and female customer and two separate mechanics who both consider not Subaru itself, but specifically QUALITY SUBARU to be dishonest. I cannot support this kind of local business. Stop ripping off my family. read more

Just the facts: -Bought a new Impreza here in January, 2017. - I drive a lot, but maintain the car per Subaru recommended schedule. - May 2, 2019 evening, lost drive power and smoke billowing from exhaust. Towed to nearest shop. - May 3, diagnosed internal engine failure. Shop recommended contacting dealer for warranty review. - Called Quality Subaru, spoke with Jonathan. He said the earliest they could look at the car was June 3. Seriously? The earliest they can "fit me in" for a catastrophic engine failure on a two year old car (that I bought from them) is in a month? I don't even really care about the warranty review, since I'm at 62k and the power train is only 60k. But at least you can pretend that I'm somewhat valued as a customer and not wait a month to just look at the (currently nonfunctional) car you sold me. read more

My car started having trouble on a trip heading to New Jersey. I gave Quality a call as I sat in a rest area on the Merrit Parkway. I asked if they would be able to at least take a look at it to see what they thought, and they said they would. I called AAA who were awesome and they towed me to Quality Subaru for a diagnosis. The dealership is very clean, modern and a fully stocked comfortable customer lounge. The female service representative could have maybe not been so expressive with her facial expressions as I gave her some information. I knew it was going to be bad, but didn't need the added dramatized effects! They took a look and did indeed give me some not so great news but also not so surprising. I was more then happy with the information provided for the diagnostic fee, and I was very grateful that they were able to give me some information in a timely manner. As I was in the middle of my journey, I decided to have my car towed back home and I picked up a rental car to continue my trip. We've had inconsistent experiences here. Sometimes recall or warranty work, but usually service department when we come. They aren't always great about communication and timing. Because of this, we really only use them when we have no other choice. This department has been remodeled, so it's nice. read more

Add in a pandemic and a microchip shortage...you wouldn't know it by visiting Quality Subaru! I was able to test drive a Crosstrek (which I couldn't do at 2 other locations). When we requested he speak with the finance person he told us there was nothing he could do. He could have made us happy by just trying but did nothing. These guys in service are incredible, they get things done fast and in great condition. I had a new dash installed a year ago and it was perfect no problems until I had to get my car inspected, don't want to get involved in the DMV bullshit but they told me I had no vin, so I called John a quality Subaru in service, He was honest , concerned and said he will find out. The next day he called me back which is unexpected since no one ever calls people back. He said, they are still finding out and will keep me updated. That he did, kept letting me know what was going on and in a week they had a new vin plate put on in a few hours. Incredible and even took care of my oil change too. These guys are incredible, knowledgeable, and caring. Any wait to do business with them and I have passed this knowledge on to many people. I really wasted my time coming up from PA to buy a WRX here. See below: Dealer claim #1: I was told that the car was in excellent condition and very well maintained. Truth#1: it was more like "good" condition and somewhat taken care of. Dealer Claim #2: Car had been thoroughly inspected by the service department and that there were no mechanical problems. Truth # 2: During a gentle test drive, there was a major coolant leak and smoke was pouring through the vents of the car. Even though it was a new radiator, obviously the service department did not even check their work so I walked. There are more, but I have wasted enough time with "Quality Subaru". read more

Really more like 2.5 starts. Im not horrified by the service or the sales people, but its just a step away from A-OK. The service department was pretty good, but not awesome - i had a problem with my Subaru and called a few dealers and asked how long it would take and how much it would cost to fix, all the prices were about the same but Quality said it would take less time so I went with them. In the end, it took just as long at Quality as all the other dealers said it would have taken. The repair probably should have been covered by the warranty but no dealers said they would honor the warranty on the part that had been replaced in a mandatory NTSB recall. So I guess that is Subaru of New England to blame, not Quality Subaru. While I was waiting for my repair I spoke to a sales person and they wanted to make me a deal, but could never commit to a price - "how much do you wan to pay?" - even when i told them how much i wanted to pay, i was never really given a price that was competitive with another Subaru dealer I had just priced the exact same model/build at.. If i need repairs i may return, there are a few other Subaru dealers and Subaru specific garages around here so I have some options. I like my Subaru and want to get another in the future, but the dealerships are disappointing and I wish the part that should have been covered under warranty didn't cost me close to $400 to repair. read more

I wholeheartedly recommend anyone looking for a car, especially a used car, to consider Steve Canada at Quality Subaru. His help was indispensable as I chose a used sedan that would fit my budget and my needs. He never tried to oversell me, was always upfront about helping me to weigh my long-term spending, and most of all, is a car guy himself, and answers questions with comfort. Test driving with him was great because he was able to say what things to pay attention to and made sure the car was absolutely in the shape I was hoping it to be when driving it off the lot. I think the biggest reason, though, that I would recommend him is that he checked in after the fact to make sure everything was going good with the car, and he made sure his service team resolved a noise. I've never had a dealer go this far with providing service--usually once the car is off the lot, they wash their hands of you. But this wasn't the case with Steve at all. Finally, Steve has just been so personable and talks to you like you're a person he's actually interested in talking to, not just a customer. I'd be happy to work with him again on my next purchase and to recommend him to even my closest friends and family. read more

Installed non Subaru remote starter when new car was purchased; replaced with Subaru remote start when first one was acting up. Starter was nonfunctional after one year, car brought to service at another dealership - team at this second dealership noticed that wires were dangerously placed, starter should not have been dangling from underneath steering wheel; literal fire hazard.. Needless to say, I would not recommend getting a remote start installed here. read more

I brought my car in to fix a recalled airbag, where the recall is listed online as a recall for my specific car. When I got to the dealership, they told me no such recall existed despite everything written online by Subaru. They fixed a separate recall, but also tried to tell me I needed several thousand dollars in repairs for something else completed unrelated. I said no, brought it to two other mechanics and they both said the issue I supposedly had was absolutely not a problem with this engine, and even if it was, the quote I got was astronomical and completely ridiculous for the work. I've had an absolutely wonderful experience thus far with Quality Subaru. I purchased a new Impreza hatch in July. Mike, my salesperson, was very attentive (and a nice guy to talk to). The car took about two weeks to come in from when I signed the contract, but that is very likely beyond the control of the people at Quality. I received two follow-up calls from salespeople after I took receipt of the car just to check in and see how I was doing with it. A few days ago, I was having trouble with a slow leak in one of my tires, I called the Service Center at Quality, they took me in immediately and I was on my way with a new tire in under an hour. The service department folks were very polite and went above and beyond to check out the tire warranty and my service contract- ended up costing me nothing to replace the tire. They even topped off my wiper fluid without my asking :) Great staff and convenient location, I plan to return to Quality for future purchases and would recommend them to my friends. read more

My husband and I have been looking for an affordable Remote Engine Starter for our Subaru Legacy 2016. All other Subaru branches sell the remote for a whopping $369.95. Fortunately, we saw this Quality Subaru branch at Wallingford, CT online, which sells the remote for only $277.46! What a steal. We decided to use our "Goodwill Parts and Service" voucher for $250. We encountered some minor problems applying the coupon code online, so we sent an email to the branch asking for assistance. We immediately received a response from Mr. Warren Smith, the branch parts manager. He applied the code and basically ordered the remote for us and had it shipped to our house. He went above and beyond his duty to help us out, and for that we are truly grateful. We have been to several Subaru branches, which, sad to say, lacked customer service and professionalism. This branch in Wallingford, CT is cut above the rest. They really give importance to customer service and satisfaction. If only we live closer to CT, we would make this our regular go-to branch for our Subaru. read more

I am extremely disappointed with the team at Quality Subaru. I went in last week to get an estimate on the trade in value of my car toward the purchase of a new Subaru. They were unable to give me an estimate but said they had 2 calls into wholesalers. I asked if they could get back to me. Six days later and I have not heard back from them. I was also told that the 2017 models were marked down but they were unable to even give me an idea of what the price for the car might be. We have purchased 5 other Subarus in the past and 2 have not been from this dealership. I went in for a scheduled 8am oil change for my WRX, and was told it would take 45 minutes max. It was very slow since I had the first appointment available. However, after sitting an hour and a half I became a little frustrated for waiting so long for a simple oil change. I asked one of the service reps what was taking so long and they told me "Sorry for the wait, it got busy real quick, it should only be five more minutes." Five minutes later I was called. I went to check out and for the long wait they didn't charge me for my service! Everyone was very polite and apologetic. Even though it took almost double the time, I walked out of there with a FREE $80 oil change. Thank you to the service crew and the reps! read more

I was in on Dec 12 to buy a used Forester. Mark Soll was my salesperson and was very friendly when I bought the car. As I was driving home, I noticed a smell coming from under the hood. I pulled over and noticed all the fluids were low, steering, brake and coolant. I had to bring the car back in a week to get plates as they could not contact the CT DMV and had to give me dealer plates. They took it to service and said my fluids were fine. Never checked a thing! I did tell them I heard a sound now from my front passenger side wheel. They checked it and said the wheel bearing was bad and I needed to come back the following week. I noticed during that week that my dome light was out. When I came in to get the wheel bearing fixed, they told me the light assembly was bad and I would need to make yet another trip. This dealer is over an hour from where I live. They made promises they never kept, such as, a tank of gas...never got that! I spoke to the service manager and he said, "Well it is a used car!" Nice... I asked if there is any inspection process done when used cars leave their lot and he said there was. You would think checking fluids would be the first on the inspection list. Please do not buy cars from this dealer! They are not helpful, unless you threaten them with a bad review on Yelp. Too late! This dealer could have made everything right when I came back the first time and done a full inspection to ensure I would not be back with another complaint. They did not do that or check anything at all. Just not a reputable place or caring service department. read more

I was in here 2 times trying to buy a new car, both times it took hours to get the whole process moving. First time I was there for 2+ hours and finally had to leave because it took so long. They had a nice waiting area with free wifi which was nice but I felt ignored and they didn't really want the business. I had to make another appt because the first one took so long and I arrived on time to find out I had to wait more, and hour. I was there and decided to wait it out and after an hour, the sales person said he would process my paperwork....still, more waiting, until after another hour he said he needs to call me back in an hour because this takes time. I decided to purchase my first brand new car from Quality Subaru in Wallingford. Unfortunately, this was much less exciting than expected due to the poor customer service. I purchased a 2019 Subaru Impreza and after just 28 miles the engine light came on. I immediately brought my car back to the dealership (this was in October) and was told that my brand new car had multiple issues that would not be addressed until December. After spending thousands of dollars on a new car, I did not expect to have any issues with the car and expressed that I wanted a new car. I was then told by the staff at Quality Subaru that is was "not their problem" and to contact Subaru Headquarters. It was my responsibility to communicate back and fourth with Quality Subaru and Subaru Headquarters which was extremely frustrating because it was truly the dealerships responsibility. After multiple phone calls and visits to the dealership, I FINALLY got my car 3 months later in January. I had an excellent experience at Quality Subaru in Wallingford and I'm very satisfied with my purchase of a Subaru Outback. I had several cars in mind and planned to visit several dealerships, but Subaru was the first and only dealership because as soon as I drove the Outback I didn't need to see any other cars. Mark Stewart was extremely helpful and friendly. I test drove a 2016 Forester and then 2016 Outback. I liked both but the Outback was a much smoother ride and was more what I was looking for. I know it's considered an SUV but I kept calling it a station wagon. I was corrected but I meant it as a good thing! To me it is like a luxury station wagon. I've had my Outback now for 4 months and I love it. It is a dream to drive. I went over a pothole the tire was damaged and when I brought it back to get fixed the service staff got it done quickly and everything went smoothly. After years of getting ripped off and overcharged by auto mechanics it was so nice to have great service and honesty. Not only was I not charged for the new tire but was given a coupon for free car wash. I would recommend this dealership especially Mark Stewart because he is not only professional and knowledgeable but he is a nice guy with a great sense of humor. He made the process uncomplicated and answered all my questions. He also called in the weeks following to make sure I was happy and if I had anymore questions. Great cars and great staff! read more

Horrible. Went in explaining that we wanted to look at a car and possibly drive it, just to learn about what was available as we begin considering options. Forced to give personal information because, well, "it's required for a test drive.'' Once we walk out to the lot, salesperson asks us to choose the color we are most interested in. We don't care. Ok. So she goes in to get the key. When she returns, we sit in it and are pleasantly surprised, so we say yes we would like to drive. Then she says she is too busy. We should make an appointment to come back for that. Just wasting our time. Will not return to this dealership no matter what. read more
