I've walked past Quattro Café more times than I can count. Usually with a shopping bag in one hand, avoiding eye contact with mannequins and the quiet judgment of my own credit card. It always looked just a little too perfect. Chic guests perched at the counter, sipping espresso or wine like they were born to do it. Until today, I never stopped. Today, I became one of them. I took a seat at the mall facing counter, the unofficial front row seat to the endless theatre of South Coast Plaza. Less dining, more human safari. Shoppers drifted past like fish in an aquarium--some dressed to kill, others clearly lost in the wild. The menu reads like a greatest hits album of Italian classics, truffle fries, Caesar, Bolognese, but with just enough style to keep it interesting. Familiar, elevated, and not afraid to shine a little. Monica was our server, and she was flawless. Perfectly dressed, gracious, attentive. The embodiment of what hospitality used to mean before QR codes and self-serve kiosks took over the world. She recommended an Amarone that was priced like a Tuesday but drank like a Saturday night in Venice. The truffle fries landed first, hot, crispy, decadent. The kind of thing you eat knowing full well you'll pay for it later and not caring one bit. Bread service followed: sliced, warm, with a crust that actually fought back. Respect. I went for the Bolognese. It arrived like it had something to prove. A big, bold plate of pasta that didn't hide behind seasoning or gimmicks. Just quality meat, slow-cooked depth, and enough of it to make you consider skipping dessert. It reminded me of Bologna. No frills, just pride. My wife's chicken Caesar was clean and precise, crisp greens, whisper-thin chicken, and a dressing that didn't shout. Monica returned just enough to make sure the wine kept flowing and the mood stayed golden. She was everything a great server should be. And just when the Amarone started humming in our heads and Monica topped off another glass, the human experience showed up. The guy next to me, bless his clumsy soul, managed to drop his silverware, scrape his chair across the tile with all the subtlety of a dump truck in reverse, and then, the pièce de résistance: accidentaly launched his wine glass onto the mall floor like a grenade. A shatter heard round the Plaza. But here's the kicker: within seconds, a cleanup crew appeared like they'd rehearsed it. Four deep, calm, composed, directing foot traffic like a presidential motorcade. You almost forgot there was broken glass and spilled red everywhere. Almost. Five stars to Monica, the Amarone, and the pasta that made me nostalgic for northern Italy. Zero stars to the chaos agent next to me. But full marks to Quattro. Grabbed a table and dove into the arancini first: crispy outside, cheesy risotto inside, killer with the vodka sauce truffle fries are a must! Garlic bread was on point Mains were fettuccine Alfredo--creamy, not too heavy, pasta cooked perfect--and the sole, flaky and fresh with a lemon-butter kick that nailed it. I have been coming to this Restaurant for years and my favor is the seafood pasta- or in Italian we call it Fruta de Mare. Sad to say - the quality of food is not as good as before. The price went up- $52.. and for a seafood - the clams, scallops are missing. What a fantastic find buried within a busy shopping mall! We stumbled upon Quattro while wasting time in Orange County on a busy Friday night. There was no way we were going to sit in 2-1/2 hours of traffic when it should only be 45 minutes so we went shopping. Just as we were both thinking about dinner, we ran across Quattro and were quickly seated. The place was jam packed so I don't know how we got so lucky getting a table. The food gods were looking after us I suppose. We weren't terribly hungry so we started with a couple of cocktails, a dirty gin martini and an old fashioned. They were both excellent, especially the old fashioned. Often they are too sweet but this one was perfectly balanced. For our meal, we ordered two Antipasti, the Carpaccio Di Manzo and the Pulpo e Patate. The Carpaccio was recommended by the host who said it was her favorite dish. The Octopus was a no-brainer because we both love it when it's prepared properly. The Polpo e Patate arrived first and we were impressed with how large it was. There was a large mound of greens lightly dressed in a lemon vinaigrette and topped with warm chunks of potato and an abundance of warm sliced octopus tentacles. We've ordered dishes similar to this in many other Italian restaurants and we've never seen this much octopus on the plate. It was outstanding and the octopus was cooked to tender perfection. The Carpaccio arrived soon after and it was everything the hostess promised and then some! The paper thin slices of filet were so delicate that they immediately started falling apart as soon as you touched them. How they got them sliced so thinly and then neatly arranged on the plate still baffles me. In the center was an arugula salad with shaved Parmesan and toasted nuts. A large lemon half accompanied the salad and provided a lovely tartness to the entire dish when squeezed across the top. Excellent!! This place will be definitely bookmarked for a future visit. The food was outstanding and the service was fantastic. My only complaint was that is was really crowded and we constantly dealt with people, both customers and staff, brushing past us throughout the meal. That, combined with the noise, was quite a distraction from an otherwise nearly perfect meal. That's why we will come back on a slower night when we can choose a better location to sit and enjoy more of their impressive menu. read more

Decent service. My spaghetti pomodoro was good. However, wife's chicken pesto panini was a lil greasy. Menu did not indicate it was breaded chicken, menu only described it as "tender chicken." The restaurant was busy, and when we arrived, the first person at the front told me she might not have room for a party of five, which immediately set the tone. Shortly after, another staff member came over and said she did have room for five and seated us in the back. From the start, something just felt off about this visit. The food was also disappointing. My pasta wasn't cooked well, and I didn't finish it. My son didn't eat because the texture was off. When we asked to have the food boxed, a fork that had previously fallen on the floor was used to serve the pasta into the to-go box. I don't believe it was intentional, but it was concerning from a hygiene standpoint. We usually make it a point to visit here whenever we come to LA and are generous with tips, but this experience wasn't worth it.
