Seafood Gumbo

I love their seafood gumbo I would definitely recommend. I also would recommend the smothered cabbage.

Crawfish Etouffee Lunch

This place has authentic Cajun food as the name implies. Many reviews mention that this place is a hidden gem but the people that live in the Arboretum area are well aware of it! I have spent some time in New Orleans and I can tell you this place serves up some great Cajun food! I'm a sucker for their Crawfish Etoufee but everything I have ever had from here is good. Some reviews mention how good the Collard Greens are here and I concur! Fantastic! The restaurant is somewhat small but that just gives it a more intimate feel. It is decorated nicely and feels very New Orleans. I have always received great service here and the waitstaff are cordial. They have craft beer on tap and a full bar. Cheers!

We really enjoy this place. Just don't make it there enough. Service is always excellent. The food always has wonderful flavors. And it's decorated really nice. If you've not been here, you need to go check it out. A friend of ours does not like spicy. And he goes there. You can tell them you can't do a lot of spice if you need to. But nothing's overdone. But the staff there is excellent. They check on you a lot.

Special of the day blackened trout, creamy grits, and seasoned veggies

A consistently great experience and meal. The special tonight was delicious blackened trout. It was well seasoned but not too spicy hot I the creamy grits and mixed veggies were also well seasoned

Bar area. One of my favorite local places.

Lunch after my annual medical screening. Starving after fasting for 12 hours so CYD was the spot! Red beans and rice and smothered cabbage hit the spot. Red beans and rice, had more rice and less beans or sausage, but the smothered cabbage definitely hit the spot. One of my favorite sides to eat anywhere. The bartender took good care of me. One thing I like about this place is the menu and the decor never change Mardi Gras all year! Cheers!

Great local spot for authentic Cajun food. Menu is perfectly stacked with some southern classics (the fried chicken is a must for first timers), red beans and rice and gumbo but I must say it's brown rue base, not my fav but others rave about it. Dining room is small so this time since I was solo, I sat at the bar, watched the game while chowing down on the daily special. Service is fast and personable.

Catfish, cabbage, and friend okra

Great food, wonderful service, and an awesome space. Highly recommend coming here if you're in the area. The menu has a lot of options and plenty to choose from. Will was our server and he was awesome. Highlights were the shrimp/crawfish ettoufee, catfish, crab cakes, smothered cabbage, and fried okra.

Another dinner in Charlotte. We started with jalapeño deviled eggs. A little on the dry side. Catfish was scrumptious and the red beans and rice hit. The green beans were average. Shrimp & grits were cheesy goodness and the shrimp were luscious. The Mac and cheese was not your grandma baked Mac &cheese or maybe in CLT they do things differently. the service was good and they let us close down the restaurant .

Well, it was Fat Tuesday, so naturally we were looking for some Cajun food. Having worn out Cajun Queen in the past and fearing it would be packed, we opted for this place. Solid choice! It's quaint in size but big in character. From the decidedly NOLA decor to the Cajun accent of the owner/manager(?), we knew we were in the right place. There are, of course, beads everywhere and a beautiful mural of Bourbon Street on the far wall. We started with a lovely seafood gumbo. The roux was deep and developed with some welcomed heat. Decent amount of crawfish, mussels, octopus (I do believe) and two juicy, spicy shrimp. More of those please. Our entrees consisted of the following: Fried catfish--comes piled high and perfectly golden brown in a flavorful batter that will wake you up a little. Grits--do NOT make the mistake my friend did in asking for cheese in these. The waiter was like...we know how to do grits, trust me. And they do. There was nothing missing in them, including cheese. Smothered cabbage--so this dish is hit or miss. My friend liked them. I wasn't crazy about it. Basically it's cabbage covered in a cheese sauce. Meh. Just gimme the veg. Blackened mahi mahi--this was delicious. Tender and flaky little filets with a kicky horseradish sauce that even I, someone who doesn't eat horseradish, really enjoyed. There was no mahi on my plate left to speak of. Collards--so if you want something green for the sake of eating a veg, then fine. Otherwise, I'd pass on them. They needed salt, heat, and possibly vinegar, garlic, onion....something. They held their crunch though and weren't overcooked, but ya gotta season those bad boys. Red beans and rice--nicely done. Again, I was looking for heat but it seemed to be reserved mainly for the meat/seafood. Blackberry cobbler--so the waiter suggested either this or the bread pudding. Since he said the bread pudding was sans nuts, we did the cobbler. It came out covered in whipped cream which was being to run given the warmth of the dish, so I promptly scooped that off. I'm a bit of a food purist sometimes. Get that whipped cream outta my life! Anyway the cobbler itself was very tasty, although it didn't hold its integrity. I prefer mine to stay a little solid and it was rather loose, especially once the ice cream (creamy and rich as it was) was plopped on top. Still the crust was truly delicious, and there was plenty of actual juicy fruit to be found. Sorry no pic of it! All in all, a nice find for days I'm craving NOLA-inspired dishes...even if it's not Mardi Gras.

I've never had any complaints about cajun yard dog. The specials of the day are always fresh and interesting. Food is cooked to order and fresh as it could be. It's a more personal casual setting with great Lousiana decor. They have a homemade hot sauce called dog sauce that pairs well with almost anything you can order. This visit I got the pick two with two sides which is always extremely reasonable at only 15 dollars. That came with blackened trout and fried oysters with a choice of two sides. My wife had the chicken and waffles off of the special board and loved them. It's always hard to decide what to eat because everything is so amazing. I could eat here every day and never get bored. It's not picture here but the chocolate pecan pie is my favorite desert here or anywhere.

I grew up eating Mexican food and have a thing for finding best flavor and quality for food. I knew I wanted to try a bbq place hear as I've heard such great things and let me tell you I was absolutely blown away! Lately things have been so pricey and feel like you get hidden fees or 20% of service on top of tip and a whole bunch of weird extra charges so obviously going out to eat has been more challenging as you pay more but get less. This place was the absolute opposite of that! We came here twice before we had to fly out to Minnesota. First time we tried the tray of meats and boy was that special. First of the brisket was delicious! But our server recommended the turkey and that was the juiciest most flavorful turkey I've ever had in my life! The sides were amazing and something I never had before was a slaw that had acidity with vinegar and it paired so well. I ordered a Twinkie for the first time and let me tell you I won't see a jalapeño the same again. In Mexican food we have them a lot but never this way and now I'm determined to try to make the more. At the end of our meal our server asked if we wanted dessert and guess wha it was ABSOLUTELY COMPLIMENTARY!! WHATTT?!? And not just like a scoop of ice cream different options of COBBLLERRRR!!! We did not see that coming and it was absolutely delicious! The second time we came I tried the fried okra and that was my first time it blew me away! I also had the potatoe that was loaded and wowowowowo so much flavor and deliciousness. Give it was our last time I got the Twinkie again and it did not disappoint! I wish this place success and that they continue to expand and maybe pray they come to MN. The place is clean and they have a lot of seating and food was incredible.

I prefer a booth and I normally am able to get one. The staff meeting you at the door are always nice and friendly. They will seat you immediately. the waitstaff here are pretty awesome. The scene here is a little dark and moody and this is what I love about this restaurant... Very Dramatic! Now Food ‼ So, if this is your first time and you want to keep it light, I highly recommend the cob salad! This is the best salad because of the homemade croutons! The serving is pretty large and the dressings our house made and every single one of them are great. My favorite would be the Thai dressing, if I had to pick. I've also tried the burger and it is extremely HUGE and flavorful. You may not be able to eat it all in one setting. I've also had the blackened salmon with the pasta and it was perfectly cooked. I get mine at medium rare. TIMING~ The servants come out pretty fast. By the time you've had your first drink the food is already coming out. This is my honest review as I have been coming here for the past decade and I've never had an issue. You will be pleased. This is also the perfect spot for a first date, business meeting, anniversary and also a birthday.. P.S. Another reason why I am drawn to this particular location, is that 131 Main has maintained a clean place to eat. My number one pet peeve is a messy bathroom. I have yet to find any issues with this restaurant. The bathrooms are always clean Everything is fully stocked and servers are Super attentive, so I will continue to come back.

We had reservations but it wasn't overly busy so I don't think they were necessary for that day and time but I would definitely recommend on busier times. I love the fact that this is more of a tapas style restaurant so you can order and taste a ton of options. Plates are generally around $14-22 per plate and they have enough for three or four (tapas style). We started with crab dip and oysters on the half shell (raw). The crab dip was rich and creamy and served with buttered crusty, buttered bread. The oysters were amazing too but a little nuance about these: they are listed by region (e.g. West Coast, Mid-Atlantic, etc.) and not listed as they type of oyster. Oysters vary greatly within a single region so I would encourage you to ask what specific oysters they serve for each region (they will look it up and tell you) to make sure you know what you are getting. We also ordered the calamari, small salad (unlisted option for the salad listed on the menu) and poke bowl to share. We went in hungry and probably ordered too much because this was all to start off. Everything was really good and worth ordering. For my "entree" or ordered the trout which comes with lentils and broccolini. This dish was fantastic and highly recommended. The trout was perfectly cooked and delicious. Our waitress, Tiffany, was amazing and did a great job. Additionally, this is the perfect spot for a "dinner and a show" since it is right beside the Knight theater. Parking is easily accessible at the Green Garage right across the street.

This restaurant is very nicely designed. It's visually appealing with tables indoors, a bar area, and an outside dining area. The hostess and my server were professional and extremely nice and made my dining experience very pleasant. The reason I am giving three stars instead of four or more comes down to value. Seafood is expensive, I get that. But I don't know that there's much value to be had here. Portion sizes are small relative to what you're paying for. And in my opinion, while the freshness and the quality of the seafood may be there, the flavor is not. I have no doubt that the quality of the seafood here is good. But I did not enjoy anything I ordered. I wasn't put off by the food, but I wish I had wanted to savor each bit. I ordered the cajun grilled oysters and the miso sablefish. I thought both were too salty and despite paying over $40 for the meal, I left still a bit hungry.

We also got roasted beets and the cauliflower for sides. The Brussels aren't on the menu during the summer but the cauliflower was amazing. They were dressed with a tangy anchovy like pesto and Parmesan. Unique and so tasty. I've seen a couple negative reviews about portion size and cookery, but each of our meals were prepared exceptionally well and we were full when we left. In addition, the service was prompt and friendly and her recommendations were spot on. It was a little hot to sit outside, but the inside was bustling and tables were enjoying their evening. Seating Staff was very nice and took us to our seats in a booth right away. It was already very busy at 5p on a Friday, with great weather. I've been to many of the Noble restaurants around Charlotte but this was my first time at a Roosters and found it to be a great experience overall. Our server was Melissa, a true professional, personable, knowledgable and available for questions and guidance on the menu. Susan had the NC shrimp, I had the Trout we shared the Okra appetizer and Anson Mill Grits and Carolina Gold Rice as our sides. It was very LOUD, that's the only down side to our experience. The bar area is VERY large so it was livley on a Friday evening. We were there to see String Cheese Incident at the Amp. The food quality was top tier! Everything was just delicious, well presented, nice size portions and maybe just a little on the pricey side but expected for the location and access to the AMP. Parking can be a challenge, the close in lots are all pay using an App but I found the Boyle Garage a block away was FREE. Melissa said there is a 'private dining room' that can be reserved in the back of the main dining room. However at times when it's not reserved you can request seating there where it's much quieter! They have very nice covered patio and live music on Wed evenings. I will be returning for certain and will ALWAYS ask for Melissa!
