I brought my grandmother's vintage 1940s wedding gown to Beatrice for my own wedding. Before finding Queen's on Yelp, I had been in touch with a number of other seamstresses from Boston to CT in search of somebody who could handle vintage fabric and would have the skill to make the necessary alterations to the gown. Thank God I found Beatrice! I was in a scary, dark place when I arrived at her small shop, but left feeling confident and calmed by her professionalism. She altered my grandmother's dress without incident , handling it with care, and also took in my reception dress with skill that shamed the original construction and quality. Honestly, the dress looked 10x better when she was done with it, not just because it fit me like a glove, but because she knows how to make high quality garments. If you need a dress altered, this is the place to go! I recently had a bridesmaid dress that I needed altered for a wedding that I was in out of state. When, I went to pick it up and try it on, it was a little tight in the bust area and wasn't zipping up all the way. At first I was worried, but she said she would fix it for me. I then explained that I did not have time before the wedding to come back a second time. She told me, no, come back in 2 hours, I'll do it right now! When I came back, it was perfect! Brought a suit to be taken in based on the great Yelp reviews. Took more than a month and then I had to call to find out it was done and "she was waiting for me." Bill was 33% bigger than she quoted and I'd rather she just say nothing could be done than the work that she did. Immediately took the suit over to Le Couturier in Central Square. He promised to rebuild the whole suit and it would be done in two weeks. He asked for me to come back in a week so that I could review some of his work and we could test the fit before he finished. For the money, go elsewhere unless it's something simple. read more

Queens was great. I called and made an appointment for my wedding dress fitting, and i arrived, and she was so sweet and lovely, and she knew exactly what to do, and she gave me a good price. I also gave her some other dresses to work on, and she did a great job with those as well. (giving them to me when I picked up my wedding dress, which was a lot of work for a short period of time!) Beatrice is a lovely, hardworking woman with a lot of talent and dedication to her work. Like almost everyone else here, I went to her with my wedding dress because of all these rave reviews. There are very few businesses that have such a high percentage of 5 stars. She is efficient, but caring as well. I felt comfortable with her quite immediately. I went to her with a BHLDN dress that fit perfectly around the hips but billowed out in the bust area. It was a seamless charmeuse silk dress with wiring around the bust, which required her to break the dress open and re-sew it together. After having paid so much for the dress, I thought I would be nervous to hand it over for such an extreme alternation, but I readily handed it over, trusting Beatrice completely. Even when she told me that the alterations would cost $300, despite my budget, I didn't balk much because I had such faith in her (from the Yelp reviews and my interactions with her in person). In the end, she finished the dress a week earlier than our proposed date and tightened each one of the silk-covered buttons that ran down the back of my dress since they were loose, for free. Exactly as other reviewers have described - a no-frills shop with a kind proprietor who calls her customers "honey" and "sweetie" and does truly excellent work! I had a great experience having my wedding dress alterations done here, as well as minor adjustments to casual dresses, tops, and skirts. As others have said, she accepts cash only and might not mention that up front. But she did charge me exactly what she estimated the alterations would cost, despite the fact that the alterations were more work than she had anticipated. I went to Queen Dressmakers with my wedding dress in hopes of some major alterations. I wanted to transform a scoop neck gown into a sweetheart shaped neckline. She did an amazing job! She also added beading and created a bussel. I had alot of anxiety that the sweetheart neckline would not come out as I pictured it..and it came out better than I pictured it!! She also did it in a timely manner. Beatrice is a complete sweetheart and she wont hesitate to tell you her honest opinion about how the clothing looks or how she thinks it will look better. A wonderful and incredibly patient seamstress with impeccable skill! I was married in August and brought my wedding dress to Beatrice months before the big day. The dress had to be taken a full size in, the hem and train shortened, and cups put in. I compared her quote and skill to several other tailors in the area and she came out on top for service, skill, price, and personality! She did a perfect job on the dress, and I also had her take in my flower girl's dress, make a waist sash for my maid of honor, AND make my now husband a necktie from the excess fabric from my train. She did it all, and beautifully, for a very good price. She is also great company - I am waiting for another opportunity to have something tailored so I can visit her again. I can't say enough great things about Beatrice. I lift weights and therefore have a hard time finding things that fit properly off the rack, and I'm also very particular about how things fit. I've been working with Beatrice for about 3 years now, and almost all of my work clothes have been altered by her. She knows exactly what needs to be done to get things to look right, and she gets it right every single time! Her work is really impeccable and even on complicated alterations I usually can't even tell what has been done "aftermarket" and what was the original stitching. Beatrice is Amazing! She is very honest and friendly. I have brought dresses to her in the past and she has always done impeccable work. I knew she was the only one I could trust to alter my wedding dress. My dress was extremely complicated and difficult to fix. Beatrice had to re-bead my entire dress in order to shorten it (There were Thousands of beads on my dress!) The end result was perfect! I went to Queen Dressmakers based on a recommendation from my mechanic, of all people. His wife had been going to her for years and has been very happy with Beatrice's work. After working with her a couple times now, I have to agree completely. I brought to Beatrice a difficult, special fabric to alter as well as some simple jeans. All were done very well and in a timely manner. Plus, Beatrice is pleasant to work with. I came across Queen Dressmakers when I was searching online for a good place to get my wedding (reception) dress altered. I had asked friends for recommendations but the estimates were all exhorbitantly high. One friend told me that her place charged $500 to alter her dress, about $100 to do a bustle alone. So I looked around and found Queen Dressmakers. Beatrice has 15 yrs of experience and it shows in her work. She altered my reception dress which was multilayered tulle over satin. The dress was fairly close to my size but I needed to shorten the hem (it was too long), take out the crinoline, take in the bodice - and I also wanted to take in some fabric in the skirt to reduce the volume. Beatrice did all that and put in sew-in bra cups all for a very reasonable price (a little over $200). She did a beautiful job and I can't wait to wear my dress! I'm sure I would've easily paid twice that amount elsewhere. I'm asking Beatrice to alter my wedding dress for the ceremony too. If you're looking for a fancy place like some of the ones in downtown Boston, this isn't for you. But If you want quality work for a reasonable price - you would be happy here. Beatrice is really friendly and knows what she's doing. Whenever I visit, it's clear that she has many repeat customers who come back to her for alterations. She also does many wedding dresses - when I stopped by, she had a few that were already done, several waiting to be altered and someone had just dropped off her dress right before me. So I felt confident that she knows how to alter wedding dresses. As another reviewer mentioned, you need to buy the sew-in bra cups yourself. Beatrice recommended Lady Grace in Waltham which is where I went but I think there might be a location in Coolidge Corner too. The bra cups were about $8/pair. read more

I had several other seamstress look at the dress and say the work simply could not be done. Queeny didn't have a problem with it and was reasonable with her pricing. I looked up Beatrice in 2010 after reading about her work here on yelp. I had a beautiful wedding dress that I purchased from the Running of the Brides, only it was three sizes too big! Her tailoring was perfection. She cinched in the waist, did the train, fixed the bustle.. basically, did a lot of work to rebuild the bodice and it came out wonderfully. I was delighted and the dress fit perfectly. I would go to her again in a heartbeat and would bring her my most prized items to tailor. Beatrice was recommended to me by another bride friend and she did not disappoint! I decided to plan my wedding in 4 months (highly recommend doing this by the way) and Beatrice was able to work within that short timeframe without a problem. My shoulders run on the broad side and were basically going to hulk smash through the sleeves of my dress. I may or may not have been in tears as she was taking a pair of scissors to the elastic in the sleeves assuring me she would make the dress perfect. She sent me home with a cookie and a hug that day. At my last fitting three days before my wedding I still couldn't completely lift my arms above my head. On the spot she cut into the top of the sleeves and using excess fabric from the end of the dress she HAND SEWED little flipper looking things on to the top of the sleeves and amazingly I could put my arms above my head. I came to Queens after reading all of the raving reviews. I was looking for someone who could take in my dress and tack on a few sweeping pieces to it. It was a unique design from Vera Wang which I bought at a non profit in NY but I'm not a picky bride and I wasn't looking for perfection and new that I got a dress that needed a little work. Beatrice struck me as a lovely person, someone with a lot of energy and no nonsense about her and I honestly liked her. However, her work is far from quality - she needed to take the dress in 1 inch and brought it in so severe that it was too small around my armpit. I didn't really care though because I was leaving for my destination wedding in a few weeks and I wanted to get my dress. I paid her $350 for the alterations. Also, I wasn't picky, I just didn't want it to fall off. A week later, when trying it on THE DAY BEFORE LEAVING FOR MY WEDDING, the zipper snapped! It was after hours for Beatrice so no one was there to deal with the situation. I ended up taking it to a tailor through a friends recommendation who stayed up all night to fix the dress (which by the way had been sewn in such a sloppy way, the zipper was curved rather than straight when he pulled it out.) He charged me $200 for the emergency alterations,stayed up until 1 a.m. to do them, fixed a button thatwas already falling off, retacked the sweeping pieces, properly attached the belt which Beatrice had just left hanging and steamed the dress. He did more to the dress in 4 hours than Beatrice did in the month she had it. When I called Beatrice to tell her about the issue and ask for her to pay for the alterations, she basically refused, saying that she would pay $50. I am so sad to write this review because I believe that Beatrice stands by her work and maybe if I had had time to bring it to her again she would have fixed it. Unfortunately, her work is poor quality, which I didn't even realize until the other tailor did it right. I also think that she is so busy (literally girls in and out of her shop all day) that she doesn't have time to do a quality job. It felt like she was rushing me in and out everytime I came in. If you want to save yourself a lot of heartache and stress, get the job done right the first time. Go to a professional. Don't relive my horrible lesson. read more
