Why does this place have 3.5 stars? I feel deceived. This place was really greasy, and pretty bland. And I usually like my food greasy. True, the Beef Noodle Soup that we got tasted better a couple days later but.........I don't know if that's normal. Or good. Is it good when your food tastes better because it's festered a bit in your fridge? I dunno. I also got the Tan-Tan Mein, which didn't taste like what it was supposed to taste like at all. Or at least it was unlike any other Tan-Tan Mein I've ever had at any other Chinese restaurant. Tasted really uncomplex--like they took a Lee Kum Kee sauce packet from Ranch 99, heated it up, and threw in some ground meat with it. I thought i'd let you in on the awesomeness which is their beef noodle soup (BNS), but if you've read any reviews at all then you are already aware of this. A hearty amount of beef (im a meat eater) with lots of noodles. Always a battle between pain and gluttony; be careful not to scald your tongue! While there isn't a lot of seating, efficient service results in short waits. Biggest complaint : you have to specifically ask for ice water (a BNS essential), it comes in a medium-small glass and they don't automatically refill (this is not atypical for asian restaurants). read more

Tried out the first time. Great location and taste. We took the $24.99/- 3 entree combo with rice and the quantity is large. Large enough that we had to take some Togo :) Salt and pepper chicken was amazing but too much salty. Chicken curry is perfect. Not too much turmeric that I was worried about. AMAZING! Just went there with my wife and had the spicy shrimp and beef noodle soup and pork buns and they both were delicious! The soup was enormous and incredible! The best noodle soup I've ever had!! Perfectly chewy and soft noodles, with fantastic flavor. My wife literally would not stop talking about how good it was the whole time. Came here and forgot to check that it was Taiwanese. Was definitely expecting something more Cantonese. I ordered the won ton noodle soup expecting the thin, egg noodle and shrimp won ton. Extremely authentic Chinese food. One of my favorite places and my family's favorite places to eat for dinner, due to the savory tastes and the very reasonable prices (3 dishes/ $19.99). Yes! I've been wanting to come here for YEARS, literally. It's consistently packed and has small tables so I just never had the patience. Today I finally got in! Came for lunch with my mom and my 9 month old. It was late so there weren't a ton of people. We ordered a noodle dish from the specials and another dish from the lunch menu. The server was sweet and friendly. When she asked what we wanted to drink, I was happily shocked that I could order from Tea Era next door! Get the scallion pancakes that are broken up into round strips - trust me they're BETTER. I also recommend the spicy shrimp and beef noodle soup. This reminds of the Chinese-Korean dish, Jampong. The broth on this soup is insane! Other than a couple of GREAT dishes, the food is average. Ambiance: It's a whole in the hole-in-the-wall that gets PACKED during lunch - come early! I was told they had good Taiwanese breakfast. So we went. But, I was not impressed. You'd think that since Taiwanese breakfast was only served on weekends and the place was crowded it'd be fresh and great. But, it turned out that the Chinese donut was so oily we couldn't eat even half of it. It was so the opposite of fresh. How can you have bad Chinese donut? Since moving to NorCal in September of last year, this has been our go-to favorite. Me and hubby LOVE the food here. Hubby gets the Spicy Beef Noodle Soup every single time. Those thick noodles are apparently handmade daily...and I love the bite back you get when you eat them. Slightly chewy and never tough or soggy. As for me...because I am a porky little piggy, I get the family combo. It's a separate sheet they give you with the menu- pick 3 items for $22.99. Always always always get the Salt and Pepper Chicken. It is PERFECT. Also...the combination fried rice is superb. It usually comes with a generous quantity of all kinds of meat in it (beef, pork, chicken, shrimp). However, I prefer it vegetarian- chopped up bits of zucchini and carrot and cabbage. I like a veggie to round out the unhealthiness...usually get the dry braised string beans but the veggie mixture is tasty if you like that clear savory sauce on veggies (not too sure what it is). Think of this place as a one-dish wonder. Their noodles (as in noodle soups and chow mein dishes both) are solidly good, possibly even great. The Beef Noodle Soup alone keeps me coming back with its hearty flavor and satisfyingly chewy noodles. But almost everything else they serve ranges from barely decent to mediocre. The worst offender I've had was Three Cups Tofu Claypot, a weird concoction of gingery sweetness that tasted like nothing I recognize; it seemed like something for the Chef Chu / Panda Express crowd. Other dishes I've tried: Curry Chicken (kinda good), Broccoli Chicken (meh), Black Bean Sauce Chicken (meh) and Mongolian Beef (meh). I've also had other dishes since my first visit in the 90s, none of which break the MEH streak. Their Sizzling Rice Soup tastes good, but it's just full of cucumbers and shrimp (WTF?). Unusual for a Chinese restaurant, service is always quite courteous and nice. But stick with the noodles. Trust me. read more

See, I think they don't know the dish is supposed to be made with dark meat, so instead they make it with relatively high-grade white breast meat, which makes it the best General Tso's I've ever had. If this is the best Taiwanese food in Mountain View, then I feel bad for the residents of Mountain View. First off, the service. Bad bad and what's worse than bad? We went on a Sunday morning just before the place got packed. We got seated within about 2 minutes. Great. Then we sat around for another 10 before we got A menu after we had asked for it. A menu? Yes, one single menu. We had to ask a separate waitress for a second menu. We ordered uneventfully (fortunately for us) and also got a bubble tea from next door. Here what we ordered: * Sweet Soy Milk * Chinese Donut * Pig Intestine Noodle Soup * Chicken Roll The milk was pretty good. A bit small, but it was done well. The donut looked like it sat in the frier for about 35 minutes. It was ridiculously soggy with oil and yet completely hardened. The noodle soup was bland. It tasted like water + noodle + intestines. And there weren't even that much intestines! The chicken roll was probably the saving grace. That was reasonably fresh and tastey. Ok, so back to the service. All the food came out pretty much immediately after ordering -- except for the milk. The donut goes with the milk. It's like coffee and cream. Can't really have the cream by itself. It really need the coffee. We sat around for about 10 minutes before we asked for it, and about 5 minutes later we got it. Oh, and then there's some yelling and screaming in the kitchen. At the end of the lunch, we asked for our check. 10 minutes later, we had to ask for it again. And about another 10 minutes later, we got it. Anything we asked for, a spoon, water, etc. took at least two requests and typically with unhappy faces. So for a typical "quick" chinese breakfast which takes about 30-40 minutes, it took us well over an hour. At the end, we got crappy food and crappier service. If I lived in MV, I'll make the drive to Cupertino. read more

I have been to downtown Mountain View so many times but never noticed this little restaurant. They're supposed to be known for their beef noodle soup and some of their xiao long pao. I tried both and I definitely liked the beef noodle soup. The Xiao Long Pao was just OK. I like to eat the small appetizer plates, xiao cai, which are typically available in Taiwanese restaurants and the like. I am a great fan of the solid bean curds but was disappointed that the ones they had here were too hard and a bit stale. I would go there again for the bowl of soup on a cold day. Prices are definitely reasonable and the service is just OK. Be prepared to have to flag down waiters/waitresses though. read more

My wife and I came with my parents and together we ordered three noodle dishes (wonton noodle soup, snow cabbage with pork noodle soup and another stir fried noodle dish) and a rice plate (deep fried pork chop over rice). It's quite a deal that each of our dish is less than $6 each. All the dishes were well prepared and came out very quickly. Since our table were right next to the register, we felt that we were always being watched and listened in on by the restaurant owners. It would have helped if they even pretended to be not looking at us while we were eating! Queen House also serves drinks which are made by Tea Era right next door. I had an iced jasmine tea with tapioca pearl for $2.50, which complemented my lunch really well. Bottom Line: Tiny, little Taiwanese restaurant that offers great value and decent food. read more

The chicken strips was OVER FRIED... the texture of the chicken was like beef jerky but with chicken... it was so dry and tough that I didn't finish even half of the plate. I really like their schezwan beef and beef tendon noodle soup. It's a good amount of food for the money and it comes out quickly. the beef is very fatty and soft. YUM! The other food there is good as well. The service is decently quick and they will get you in and out quickly if you need it. Stopped by to get food on my way back from the city, trusting fellow Yelpers' reviews. Big mistake for this one. What I ordered: scallion pancake, Sichuan spicy beef noodle soup and pork chop rice plate. Yes, I do understand that takeouts are never going to taste the same as in the restaurants. But you can taste how well the foods were prepared and seasoned. Score card: Scallion pancake- meh. 2.5 stars. Not terrible but I've had plenty of scallion pancakes from other places, that the cold was still addictive and delicious. This ain't it. Sichuan spicy noodle soup- 1 star. One of the worst I've had. Too many fatty pieces. Never a big fan of thick noodle but could tolerate if the texture was right. This ain't it. The soup base wasn't good - had a weird sweet after taste. I can see there were chili pieces and chili sauce but it's not spicy at all. Very disappointing. Pork chop rice plate- 1 star. The minced pork sauce tasted like very salty soy sauce which pretty much seasoned the entire plate of rice. Yuck. The pork chop, the breading was grainy and the pork itself was like cardboard. Amazing. Only tried a few dishes, but if you come for one thing... try the Spicy Taiwanese Style Beef Noodle Soup! The meat is pretty good but it's the tasty and super authentic broth that really hits the spot. It's amazing and is as close to authentic as you can get around here! Noodles are very "Q" and chewy. The dumplings and rice cake dishes are also tasty and not too oily. Paired with a drink from the delicious Tea Era next doors and you have yourself a perfect Taiwanese meal. :) Service is pretty good, but the servers speak limited English. It's a small Taiwanese shop located right in the middle of Castro Street. We came here on a Thursday night around 9pm and they were just about closing but still let us in and order food. We got the szechuan spicy beef noodle soup. The soup base was delicious and spicy. They seemed to give less noodles than before, and the bak choy was almost nonexistent. The noodles were a bit thicker than I was used to and a bit overcooked. They gave plenty of meat, but it was as soft and tasty as other places. I would still recommend the dish because the soup more than made up for it. I also got a green onion pancake for an appetizer and that was really good. The shop is also partners with Tea Era next door. When you sit down, they give you a Tea Era menu as well so you can order milk tea and other drinks to eat with your meal instead of having to make two different stops. read more

A good place to go if you are craving Taiwanese food. Unfortunately, I just heard that they do not serve "stinky tofu" anymore because the chef left. I usually order the stinky tofu, steamed dumpling, jia jiang mien (noodles), and hand-pulled pancake (off of the dim sum menu). This a whole in the wall restaurant which gets packed during lunch and dinner.
