Yummy fusion Chinese approved by an Indo Chinese lover. Ofcourse it wasn't spicy at all but there was chili sauce on the table that tasted more like hot sauce with mild chili flakes. The ambience was lit with no air conditioning but the air was comfortable. Parking was an issue since Kirin is across Limon so we parked in a public garage and walked 5 minutes to the restaurant. The hostess was very sweet and kind. She offered us a booth and we couldn't be happier. We ordered the har gow, sui mai, chicken pan fried noodles, chicken in black bean sauce and salt and pepper calamari. The calamari was delightful, mild and crisp. Some would say it is bland but we had plenty of sauces to dunk those succulent pieces into and enjoy ourselves. The har gaw was great! The shrimp filling was plenty. A tad bit overcooked coz the wrapping was tearing on us but delicious! Our hostess asked why we hadn't packed the sui mai to-go and I told her I found the pork to be a bit smelly. The dish was immediately voided and we were taken care of not that we were expecting it. Beautiful customer service! The chicken pan fried noodles were amazing! Crispy dunken noodles absorbing all that goeyness of the chicken sauce with bok choy and full of umami- Great! Chicken in black bean sauce was amazing too! I've been coming to Kirin for 25 years, and it has always been solid. Through every phase, it's been one of those reliable Mountain View spots you can bring family to and never be disappointed. The Chinese food is consistently awesome, generously portioned, and a great value for what you get. The remodel also looks nice inside! What I'll add is that the new ownership is awesome (changed ~2 years ago). They've kept everything that made this place a longtime favorite while clearly putting real care into the food and the service. The dishes come out fresh, the staff is super friendly, and you can tell the kitchen takes pride in the work. It's rare for a place to stay this good for two decades, let alone get even better. Been coming here since I was a young child anytime we would get together with my family friends. Coming back as an adult, I enjoy the food a lot more. Did the family set (4 people) C and thought it was delicious. We even added a minced pork soup to the set just in case. We ate every single last drop of every dish (with 4 people) and the waiter was shocked. The lobster wasn't as amazing as I would have liked but still good. Loved the fried rice and the walnut shrimp. The duck was good too but wish it was the thin crepe wraps rather than the bun-like ones. Obviously coming back and would do the family sets again. A good deal! This is our family go-to restaurant for good Chinese food when you desire to eat out with your family. My 89 year old mom, her 90 year old sister, and my two cousins came here recently for dinner, I've also come here with my mom and brother as well. The restaurant is centrally located on Castro Street in Mountain View. We generally like to order the family meals for three or four people, plus add a soup such as fish maul soup, the family dinners may come with dishes such as lobster, honey walnut shrimp, fish with vegetables, etc. The quality of food is high, the food is tasty, and when we got a chance to chat with the owner, she'd days that she pays a high price for the chef. The chef is a terrific chef, must have trained in Hong Kong, because every dish is quite tasty with good presentation. The interior of the restaurant is quite good, it has been renovated and a vast improvement from the decor from a few decades ago. One of the waiters has recently retried after 35 years! Patronize this restaurant for lunch or dinner, it's a good place to meet up with your friends, coworkers or family, you're allowed to linger with tea and talk, which is great if you're trying to catch up on the latest family news. You can come here for a date. There's plenty of parking on the back of the restaurant, or on the surrounding streets. I love the newly remodeled Kirin restaurant! Vibrant orange booths, lots of decorations, and a lively atmosphere. I got the lunch special that comes with hot and sour soup, a veggie egg roll that just came out of the fryer, and rice. I have never had crunchy won ton strips with mongolian beef and it was a nice surprise. Server came by twice to refill our tea pot. The table next to us was a large party with a giant lazy susan in the middle and they had so many different dishes. A great place to catch up with people! read more

The y drizzle then sweet mayo cream sauce but what elevated this dish to the next level is the mustard in the mayo sauce. The mustard's slightly sour spice balanced the sweetness of the cream. Lots of candied walnuts. Crispy batter coating on the prawns without being crunchy hard. Good portion. The Pan Fried Noodles had shrimp, scallop, BBQ pork, chicken and beef with some bakchoy and carrots. Great ingredients. Crispy fried noodles. The sauce was a bit watery so it needed some soy sauce. The Steamed Flounder was ok. It's available as fried also. It had an aftertaste to it and a bit gummy texture. Sauce was also a bit bland. All 3 cost $70 after tax, before tip. Food came out at different time, about 10 min apart from each other. They had a small menu. The staff said it's because they're redoing the menu. read more

We headed over to Kirin with a big party on a weekday at noon and Kirin was able to quickly accommodate the party. At first, the menu seemed overwhelming with all the choices we were offered. But it felt like all options were good options. We ordered both from the big menu as well as the DimSum menu and everything came out quickly and was delicious. All of our dishes were big portioned and we struggled to finish our food. We even ordered Peking Duck and it came out super quick. Staff was nice and quick to respond whenever our table needed anything. Overall a good choice if you want a quick lunch for a small group or a big group. Four of us came for lunch on a Sunday, glad to see the restaurant had been remodeled with a brighter, cleaner and more pleasant interior. When arrived at noon, the place was almost empty; it did fill up nicely later on. We decided to order a small set menu plus a couple of more dishes to share. The set of 3 for $55 consisted of Walnut prawns, Steamed chicken and garlic yu-choy, all three dishes were fresh, tasty and served in good portions. Prawns were of good sizes, served piping hot. Coatings were heavier than I'd preferred. Chicken and the greens were both very enjoyable. BTW, we compared the price of a set to individual order total, there is only a $1 saving by doing the set... Hubby was happy to satisfy his craving of S/S pork, fried rice was decent too. The chrysanthemum tea was very light; I believe $1.5 pp is charged for tea which is quite reasonable. Service was polite and responsive. Doordashed from here, just a simple order of wor won ton soup and some potstickers. Both were pretty good, nothing exceptional, but not bad either. The soup came deconstructed -- the broth separate from the many things you put it in. That was fine. And they did not skimp on the fillings. I thought maybe there wouldn't even be enough broth for them, but there was. The potsickers were good to very good, the filling was great, the wrapper was a tiny bit thick for my taste, and they felt a bit more deep-fried than pan-fried. I love the feeling of the homey sit down restaurants with the lazy susan tables. It makes sharing food so much easier in larger groups. All the food was so fresh with tons of flavor. Everything that came out looked incredibly appetizing. Some of our favorites were the fried rice, the sizzling beef, and the lobster. Everyone who worked there was very inviting, nice, and made sure to check in on us. Service was prompt, and food came out in a timely manner. I've been looking for a new goto restaurant for my family ever since the downtown SJ staple Bo Town closed years ago, and this might just be the winner, finally! I had a very nice dinner here. We came on Superbowl Sunday, so I believe the restaurant was much less busy than usual. We had a group of 6, and they have several tables suitable for large groups. There is a pretty large menu, and several items seem to be easily veganized. I think some of the vegetable dishes have oyster sauce (possibly other non-vegan sauces but I didn't ask) but I asked our waitress if the braised tofu and broccoli could be prepared without oyster sauce and she said yes. I was also able to order a vegetable fried rice without egg. Our table also ordered a few meat dishes and a soup, and all of us really enjoyed the food. The servers are nice and attentive, though they seemed pretty busy. I can't believe Kirin is still around - it's one of those places I used to come as a child with my family, although I haven't been back in 10-15 years. As such, it's a really old school Chinese restaurant, so don't expect anything new or fancy. Food is pretty mediocre, but serviceable. We got a set menu, and the highlight for me was dried scallop & egg white fried rice (great savoriness without being heavy). I thought the seafood dishes were all unmemorable - seafood fish maw soup, lobster with ginger and scallions, and steamed rock fish were all too bland, while the clams with black bean sauce were too fishy. The braised abalone with pea sprout was good, but too oily. Besides the fried rice, the best dishes were the peking duck (the rendition here is too bony and served with buns instead of wraps, but the duck itself is flavorful and good) and the honey pepper beef steak cubes (very tender meat). Overall though, I found all the food a tad too oily (all glistening in the light). They also have dim sum on weekends - their fried dough rice noodle roll was also pretty mediocre (pretty thick roll, not the crispiest fried dough). read more

This restaurant is a mountain view stable. Been here many years I went there yesterday for lunch, ordered the 8 treasures clay pot and chicken wraped in lotus leaves. The ingredients in the clay pot was not fresh, the scallops had this stale old fishy taste. Chicken pieces was so large, not chopped to bit sizes. The rice in the lotus leave was not cooked long enough, the chicken lacked flavor. A bowl of rice cost $3.50. Needless to say I am going back. Still thinking about the house special soup (with chicken and lotus root), as well as fresh lobster. Not much expectation with this restaurant at the beginning since I had been there long time ago, which wasn't too impressive at that time, however, looks like it's now under new management. Last night, I had ordered fried lobster, fish, veggie and beef fried rice noodles, all turn out to be delicious, esp. the fish which had steamed just perfect timing and was so fresh, actually, the fish was live from the fish tank in the restaurant! The lobster "mountain" was also amazing, very tasty since it was fried with salty eggs.
