They take some time to answer phone, although on website it says they are open at 9 am, no one answers the phone until well past 930 am. It is in a good location, you have to look for residential parking, they are not open on weekends, if you need emergency services they direct you to blue pearl animal emergency clinic, which is in forest hills- horrible to get parking and very congested area. read more

My dog in his last days came from there with a rectal prolapse! I don't know what happened because I was not allowed in due to COVID-19. He was weak and thin. What he didn't need added to his CHF and kidney failure was a prolapse! What's most upsetting is Dr Kirk. never informed me of the prophase! Dr. Kirk had treated him for eight months after his vet retired and I was happy with him. That's why I continued to let him treat my boy. I deduced that since my baby was so thin and weak, his anal expression went wrong. That's my guess, however the doctor should have informed me! All he strongly suggested was I put him down because he had no quality of life! Of course, I refused (he wasn't in pain other than the prolapse which I'm told is painful!) and said if he dies, he dies at home with his family that loves him! Not on a cold table with poison pumped in him and me not even allowed to be there! He lasted two and a half weeks after the visit, and when he went, he knew I was there and where he was as it should have been! I saw him exhale his last two breaths. My boy died May 23rd, 2020. I thought a long time about writing this but in the end, I knew I must! Beware of curbside drop offs seek a vet that will let you in the exam room with your pets! Research them of course. You wouldn't allow your children to see their pediatrician without you so why allow your pets to see the vet alone and they can't talk either! read more

This review is long overdue. My mom & I have been bringing our English bulldog Roxy to Dr. Kirk for the last 8 years. He truly is such an empathetic & intelligent vet and his assistant Jackie is always so helpful and kind to Roxy during exams. A few years ago, Dr. Kirk discovered a malignant mass in one of Roxy's legs and not only did he excise it with absolutely no issues, but he charged a very reasonable price for the surgery. We continue making the 45 minute drive from Brooklyn anytime Roxy needs a checkup or has a problem because Dr Kirk is just that good. Vet expenses aren't exactly cheap. While the average cost for euthanization and cremation of a dog ranges between $150 to $300, but my dog weighs 10lbs, and I used to bring my dogs here my whole life when the father was the Dr, my friend worked 15 yrs for him, now the son took over and I've dealt with him but my dog needed to be put to sleep and you would think with Covid their would be some leeway in price, nothing fancy just euthanize my 10 lbs dog, but $275 is a feel a rip off!!! To start, the staff here are very friendly. Wait time was not long at all, 15-20 mins max. I had brought my maltipoo in because he had some discomfort in his hind legs. My dog, snowball, is always nervous before any visit to the vet. You can tell right away that Dr. Kirk and his assistants/technicians are tremendously caring and gentile with your pet. After a physical exam and observation of my dog's movements, he explained to me right away what his conditions and findings were in a way that was very informative, knowledgeable, and prescribed him with an anti-inflammatory to help with his arthritis and joint pains. To finish, the price was very fair and reasonable. I was charged a grand total of $204 for blood work, a physical exam, and prescription medication. Don't judge this place too harshly when you walk in. The outside looks rough but the inside is quite nice. The ladies behind the desk are very polite and informative. We got there a little late for my cats appointment, but it was not a problem. The wait time was very short and they get straight to assessing your pet with patience. They were so gentle and my cat did not act out at all. Ladies this is for you...the doc is hot. I mean I have to throw it in there cause everyone can appreciate good looks. I had an appointment at 11:45 and called them at 11:44 to let them know that I am standing in front of door. They told me they would call me back after sanitization was done. Guess what I had been waiting in front of door for 45mins and left. On my way of home, they called me at 12: 54 saying they don't see me near the door. Come on.... Things could happen, and I do understand there is always an emergency under the circumstances we are in now. But, what made me furious is They did not want to be bothered by telling me at the first place there would be an about 1hr delay, which they already expected. Plus, not a single word of apologies. Truth told, this is probably technically a 4 star spot, but I give it the fifth star for the extreme humanity (animality?) of Dr. Kirk. He is such a caring and empathetic vet. He knows how much we love our pets, and he does everything he can to give our pets the best care he can. It's also immediately evident how much he himself loves animals and his job. We've been going to this neighborhood, family-owned veterinary clinic for easily more than two decades for all our dogs. The physical state of the place is old, and not shiny and bright - but clean and well-kept. The prices are extremely reasonable. And as I said, Dr Kirk is just so caring and kind. Like anyone who has to make medical diagnoses, particularly those who cannot talk to their patients, Dr Kirk does his best. He may make mistakes, but never anything unreasonable (e.g., we initially thought our dog had SARD - sudden acquired retinal detachment, but in fact, he had a brain tumor; this was also undetected by the ophthalmologist we saw, who explained there was no way to be positive without a further test requiring anesthetizing our dog completely). The animal handlers that help Dr K are also great, and the receptionists range from fair to great. Overall, I am so happy that we have Dr K in our neighborhood and our lives. read more

I like the vet here, staffs are nice. Price very reasonable. I have been to a few vets around the neighborhood and this is one of those vet I feel they treat my dogs like my kids and not just something to make money with. Be aware that your wait is long enough though you made appointment. ESP if you have more than one dogs. However, I can't really complaint as one time my dog cut his leg open and Dr Kirk let me skip the line and take care of him first. Late hours are bonus as I can go to them after work. read more

First of all I can remember coming to Dr. Kirks office since I was a child with our family pets. 39 years later I'm still coming, the only difference is now we have the pleasure of Dr. Kirks son, also Dr. Kirk as our doctor. He is WONDERFUL, KIND, GENTLE AND PATIENT!!!! Dr. Kirk is one of the few vets I've ever come across to own his own pitbull and therefore he treats my 9 year old pitbull Alex without hesitation. He knows the bread, understands it and respects it. As a pitbull mom I can tell you that that's not easy to find. I trust Dr. Kirk 10000% with my baby. I was just there with Alex on Tuesday, November 10th for an emergency visit. They took me the same day I called, wait was minimal under the circumstances of being squeezed in and as always I left feeling much better after seeing Dr. Kirk. Not only did he treat Alex with gentle loving hands, but because of him and his quick amazing skills we were able to avoid partial tail amputation. Needless to say my husband, myself and most importantly Alex left very happy people tonight....as I watch Alex sleep next to me in our bed, I know he's here and not in a cold dark kennel awaiting surgery ONLY because of Dr. Kirk. When we first started taking our dog to Queens Midway in 2019 Dr. Kirk had a caring attitude. As our dog aged (19 years) & once the facility started curbside drop off & pick up the service became impersonal & unfriendly. This year while on an overseas trip our dog was diagnosed with a possible malignant tumor & experienced dramatic weight loss. We paid for a MRI & CT scan. Immediately upon return to NY we brought him to Dr. Kirk. We gave the CD with the imaging results & sent emails listing the medications prescribed & previous blood tests to him for review. All Dr. Kirk recommended during the visit was a steroid & euthanasia. He never gave advice or suggestions to improve our dog's appetite or a referral to a specialist. Dr. Kirk never responded to the emails. Not satisfied with waiting for our dog to die, we explored taking him to an oncologist. We asked the staff for the CD back & they couldn't find it. Dr. Kirk couldn't remember where he put it. I asked the staff why Dr. Kirk never replied to my emails & was told the emails don't go directly to him. The staff neglected to bring vital information to the doctor. I asked the staff on numerous occasions to have Dr. Kirk call me & have yet to receive his call. If you love your pet then don't bring them to Queens Midway Animal Hospital because you'll be greeted by an incompetent staff and an uncaring doctor. read more

I think my first experience with Dr. Kevin Kirk was in 2012 or 2013, when I brought in 2 cats I had adopted from the shelter. In 2014, I needed to bring my other cat,16.5-year-old lilac point Himalayan, AZ, in for a checkup because she didn't seem well, though her spirits, as ever, seemed high. Dr. Kirk determined that AZ needed lab work. After the results came back, Dr. Kirk informed me how very deathly ill my dear sweet AZ was. I already believed him, but he showed me a long lab list of all the things that were wrong with her. She needed to be put to sleep. This still brings tears to my eyes, and it brought big boo-hoos back then, but Dr. Kirk was so understanding, and did not make me feel awkward at all about my crying spells.
