If you love your pet, DO NOT go to this clinic. You can tell the Vet simply does not care about your pet, instead he cares about MONEY. I took my dog in for checkup because she was not moving, not walking, and foaming at the mouth. The doctor took her vitals and said "I don't mean to scare you but this is a dangerous situation. No dog comes in like this" he said we have 3 options, leave my dog at his clinic and he can see what he can do. At that point he told me he's not sure what is wrong with my dog but he can see if there are any tests he can run but it will take time. The second option is to bring my dog to an emergency clinic . He kept emphasizing that it will be extremely expensive (I wasn't concerned about the price I just wanted to know what's wrong with my dog and how she can be rescued) He said it will be expensive and third option is to euthanize my dog which they can do right at the clinic. I thought he must be crazy, why would he even suggest putting down my dog?? At this point I just wanted to get my dog to an emergency vet because clearly this Vet doesn't know what he is talking about. After paying $68 for the vet visiting which he basically did NOTHING. I asked him to refer me to the nearest ER. The one he referred me to was Blue Pearl and they also a very condescending vet who quoted me $9.5k+ for 24 hours before they can save my dog. They wanted me to make a decision immediately and tried to dissuade me from switching to another ER because the price would be "similar" . I ended up switching to another hospital that had more empathetic staff. If something seems off listen to your gut and switch to another clinic!!!!! This can help save your pet's life !!! read more

While we were in NY, our Big Boy Bo Bo was not feeling well. Specifically, his teeth have been bleeding. We know we need to take care of it right away. Luckily, this animal hospital is just blocked away from my wife's parent's house. It took us 3 minutes to get there but finding a parking spot on the street could be challenging. It looks like the building has been here for a long time. My wife mentioned she used to bring her other family pets here while she was living in her parent's house, and that's a long time ago. Most customers seem to be coming here for ages. The equipment and the furniture look like they have been here since they open. However, we don't care about that as long as the doctor is good. And when the doctors walked into the examination room, she recognized my wife almost immediately. BoBo needs some dental work, which requires surgery. We were worried for Bo Bo to go through the procedure since he is 14 years old. However, the doctor convinced us that it's more important to do what's better for Bo Bo with his quality of life. And so we decided to get the procedure done after we returned home to Florida. The doctor was pleasant and kind to us and especially to BoBo. ...another WARNING that I want to alert all is that they stick the syringe to the neck area to draw blood for standard cbc blood test. They will shave a small section of fur from the neck. I ask Dr Jack if he was going to use a butterfly needle (usually used for small dogs, mine is 18 lbs) or regular syringe to draw blood. I was very startled to learn his method of syringe to neck. All my previous experience is syringe or butterfly needle to front leg somewhere. The blood drawn and stethoscope all happened behind closed doors. I thank god nothing terrible happened to my dog This is my 1st visit and definitely my last. The ONLY reason I came here is bc this was the only VET that allowed me to go in with my pet during COVID. however since everything they do, they bring to a back separate room, it really defeated the purpose of going in. Not for me. I have a 13 year old that is my world. When I initially called, I ask to see the most experienced vet for a geriatric dog. My visit was for an annual check-up. The front desk recommended Dr. Jack as he was the most senior. Dr. Jack was very nice but, to me, he was more interested in talking about himself. his 30 years experience then learning or asking about my dog. 85% of this check up was spent listening to Dr. Jack talk about he is a surgeon. he makes 100 calls a day at 5 minutes a call and that means he has no time. blah blah blah. he didn't check my dogs ears, flip thru the fur to look at the skin, use a stethoscope or anything. He lifted my dogs' lips to take a glance at his teeth but he didn't bend down to look so not sure how he can see the teeth standing straight up (especially he is tall). when I asked him when he's going to listen to his heart, he said he will take him to the "back room" to listen. this is my first time with a vet that needs to use the stethescope behind close doors. His conclusion, after talking about himself, is that my dog looks healthy and nothing needs to be done. He made this diagnosis doing with no examination ( i guess just based on his "gut feeling" and "30 years experience") he ended by saying that he is a surgeon and he cannot dedicate the time I would need from him for my dog. perfectly fine, then why did your front desk schedule an "ANNUAL CHECK UP" with you? Perhaps let your front desk know that you are a surgeon and do not have time to handle annuals? next day he called with results of cbc. i requested a copy as well. calcium level was above the high range. he said he wouldn't worry - and would recommend "do nothing". The platelet count was above high range. again, "do nothing". i even explained that i checked previous CBC from 7 months ago and platelet count was much lower. again, "DO NOTHING". When i pressed for the meaning of these elevated levels he finally said he has to get off the phone because he has other calls to make. This visit was a complete waste of my time and money. read more

Dr.Chew is not experienced. I went to him because my dogs eye got really cloudy and he prescribed me antibiotics and told me to update him in a week. After less than a week, my dog wasn't getting better so I took him to an eye specialist. Turns out, it was glaucoma and his eye may have been able to be saved if he was operated on early. Since I waited under the vets advice, he went blind. As a result, he had to get his eye removed which cost me $5k+ for the surgery and all the related cost. I also have to pay to get his eye checked quarterly with the specialist. Dr.Chew didn't do the necessary tests to diagnose my dog. I talked to 2 other regular vets (not specialists) and they thought it was strange that he didn't catch that it was glaucoma. Now I'm out a ton of money and my dog has 1 less eye. I went here because of the "good" reviews, however my first impression was a bad one where the receptionists were arguing about not taking a client, neither of them wanted 2 and kept arguing in front of us clients and even the doctor was there. But he was no help either. He was rude and told the clients that they were overbooked so they had to sit down. I was like woah thats not professional. I guess i was seen by Chew. He knew i was a first time patient so he gave my an overwhelming and fake sounding speech about communication and that i could call him whenever for whatever. Ok sure. He gave vague answers to my questions, insisted on doing tests to find out the exact cause of my dog's issues but at the same time said that it wasn't guaranteed so basically he wanted to charge me $125 for a test that wasnt going to be 100% accurate. When asked about nutrition questions he said he wasnt a dietitian so he wasnt able to answer anything, yet he kept asking about what i feed my dog. I didn't expect him to give me a recipe but i did expect him to give me an idea of what he would recommend as a DOCTOR. He comes off very condescending to the point where we had to back and forth with each other's comments. He sounded like he wanted to be right all the time and made me get defensive because of his attitude. When i asked him "does my dog look healthy overall " he said "well we would have to do tests in order to find out exactly" like cmon if you are a doctor you can clearly have an overall impression if a dog is healthy or not. He just sounded very pushy about doing tests. After reading some negative comments ill be sure to do my research before giving my dog any of the medications prescribed and i will definitely take him Somewhere else for a second opinion. read more

I was a staunch supporter of this vet until I brought my cat in in August and he was dead by October. He had been vomiting constantly, I was told he was a ok Just overweight by one doctor, he continued to vomit, continued to lose weight until I brought him back in October to see a different doctor, when I was told he had a medical issue - who knew- that i could have treated had i known months earlier. Being an overprotective dog parent I called during Memorial Day Weekend to see if my dog had a tick bite. I was unsure and had never experienced any sort of tick bite before and to ease my anxiety I gave the clinic a call. The receptionist who answered was helpful and patient as I expressed my concerns. She told me that I can bring in my dog and one of the doctors will be able to take a look. I had a quick and smooth visit with Dr Jack who explained the entire process and gave me some after care instructions for my dog's tick bite. He was professional and had great bedside manners. I can't recommend this place. I've waited over a year to write this review. I took my cat to Petcare after a recommendation and I had a terrible experience. I guess the place is okay if you're just bringing your dog or cat for a standard checkup -- but if there is anything serious that's going on with your loved one -- I strongly recommend you bring him or her somewhere else. He takes a look at my cat and immediately says "I need to prepare you as your cat does not have much longer to live -- give this cat whatever he wants and make him as comfortable as possible as on the next visit we'll most likely be speaking about putting him down that day." W T F!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think to myself ... who in the WORLD says that on the first visit -- let alone the first words ... bedside manners -- hello?! ARE YOU THERE????? I immediately held back tears, listened to what he has to say, paid the bill and took my cat back to my car. As I was sitting in my car, trying to take in everything that was just dropped on me, my cat came to my lap and sat down. Right then and there I promised I'd do everything I could to make sure he got the care that he needed, regardless of cost (and cost/price was NEVER an issue for me). It's been a year -- and I can honestly say that my cat is doing significantly better. He has gained weight, has gotten his hyperthyroid under control with medication and is expected to live for many more years to come. I understand that people write reviews based on emotions but I waited over a year to write this email. After an extremely disastrous experience at Fresh Meadows Animal Clinic, I went searching for another clinic. This one is a keeper; the vet took the time to educate us on the basics of having a puppy. He was sociable, smart and didn't feel rushed. They allowed us INTO the clinic, which other clinics are currently not permitting. To be honest, the other reviews on Yelp scared me, but honestly, it's the best vet clinic in the area.
