Went to Queenstown in La Jolla for brunch with my mom and brother, and it absolutely lived up to the hype! The restaurant is beautiful, with both indoor and outdoor seating. The flowers may be artificial, but they make the space feel so charming and chic. We waited a little while to be seated, but it was worth it--we got a cozy booth, which I highly recommend. Our server was friendly and attentive, and the food was amazing. I ordered the New Zealand meat pies with a lavender lemonade, and both were 10/10. The meat pies are definitely a must-try! They also have a great variety of brunch, dinner, coffee, cocktails, and other drinks. Really enjoyed our meal to queenstown which has a slightly more expansive menu than some of their other locations. The meat pie was flaky and tender and the fries were crispy. The tomato chutney comes as a side on many dishes and I wish I could have taken some home, a perfect balance of sweet and acidity. But this place has brunch and lunch options on Sunday. The late breakfast was delicious ( see pics ). The chicken blt I ordered was simple but delicious. Very fresh. The steak Cesar was also great. Steak was plentiful and it tasted awesome. They also accommodated our third meal ordered for the group which was making a teriyaki burger into teriyaki chicken and the fries or potatoes were tasty. Waiter was cool and remembered everything with frequent check ins. Ambiance was nice as it's all outside and it was a sunny evening with clear clouds. Only thing from giving this place a five is it's not cheap. Very expensive and overly price. Over 20$ for a sandwich or salad which is portioned perfectly to finish but you probably won't be taking anything home or 100 bucks with tip for 2 Sammie's and 1 salad and no additional drinks is just too much. It was Mother's Day but it was a standard menu. I could see these meals costing half the price so let's just say the food is great and service and ambiance but it's definitely overpriced. I've been to their UTC and Little Italy locations before, but this was my first time visiting the La Jolla Village spot--and I have to say, it's the prettiest of the three. They have a nice outdoor seating area, which worked perfectly since we had our dog with us. We went midweek, so it was very quiet and relaxed. I ordered the steak salad, which was fresh and really well done. The steak was cooked perfectly and added great flavor to the dish. The portion was good too. My mom had a sandwich and tomato soup, and both were delicious as well. It did seem like they might have been a bit short-staffed. Even though it wasn't busy, service was a little slow--but nothing too disruptive. Overall, we really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. What a lovely visit! The host was so kind and gave us a tour of the restaurant, explains their decorating process. Spring Mode is gorgeous! Dined here during a quick trip to San Diego and first step in was stunned by the interior. The floral arrangements were beautiful! Service was amazing and personable as well. They can try to make any of the cocktails into mocktails so I thought that was a bonus. The food was also tasty. The pretzel with the jalapeño cheese was so yummy (i did have to take some salt off bc it was a bit salty for me). The steak was yummy as well but the fries get a bit oily once you reach the bottom of the plate (i just didn't some of it). But overall would definitely come again if I visit the area. read more

You would never know that Queenstown used to be a Karl Strauss - everything from the decorating to inside/out seating is completely fresh and looks great. I was dining with some picky eaters, after viewing the menu online it seemed like a home run. Previewing OpenTable, they seemed to have plenty of availability for a Sunday evening so we headed that way without a reservation. When we arrived I'd estimate 30% of tables inside and out were occupied. We had a small snafu checking-in, while waiting for the party ahead of us to be seated we took a group picture on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant, whomever seated that party said he'd be right back for us but didn't return, another party of four arrived after us but was seated ahead by someone else (fine), but then we stood waiting nearly 10 mins to be seated. The menu is 100% function over form, beautiful but impossible to read. I've had LASIK twice, my vision is 20/15 and I had to use the magnifying app and flashlight on my iPhone to make anything out. Next revision, please use all the white space and skip the 6pt font. The service from start to finish was not good: pacing was slow, we didn't get much help on the menu, e.g. suggestions, redirections, specials. The "flower pot bread" is 1 pop over, it was good, it was not "too small" for the cost. But when a table orders one, and the menu doesn't say what it is, maybe redirect the table and say "good choice, so that's like a pop-over and it's really for one, is that what you want?". it didn't matter too much because it arrived about 45 seconds before the rest of the food. Also, after one drops the food - especially while 1 or more guests isn't at the table - perhaps stop back sometime in the next 3-5 mins (or how about "ever"?) to ask how everything is tasting? Do you need anything else? (we did). The food itself was good, but in several ways wasn't what we expected. The chicken pot pie was a home run, no notes. Everything with fries comes with 2 pounds of fries, and they have both shoe string and steak fries. If you hooked me up to a lie detector, the only fries I dislike a shoe string and steak (absolutely my least favorite) theirs were seasoned beautifully and when cooked "crispy" they were perfect. The cod for the fish and chips is one giant breaded piece of fish, this is something I rarely order and barely ate 1/3, the presentation was "too pleased with itself". If one thinks this should be the portion size, slicing the cod into 2-3 strips before breading them would make this much easier to eat. The chicken sandwich was also comically big and difficult to eat/cut, the shoe string fries were fine but not as good as the steak fries. I think Queenstown is a great concept in a great location, I hope they tweak the menu (what's on it and most important - how it's printed) and work on the experience/service from arrival to departure. read more

I was able to make a reservation for our large party of 10 for weekend brunch, and the restaurant was awesome for setting up options for us inside or outside. It was a beautiful San Diego day so we chose outside. The patio area is cute as a button. They have several different menus for drinks, desserts, the meal (changes based on when you go), and even a kid's menu! I was very impressed by the kid's menu because the portion was big, they gave nice fruit (not just cheap melon), and there was a gelato all for $9.95! They also do free kids meals 4-6pm daily with purchase of adult entree. We ordered the breakfast fried rice, meat pies, lamb hash, smash burger, and steak & fries. Everything was packed with flavor and well portioned. The matchstick fries I had with my steak were fantastic! If you're from SD, you know the parking around here is chaos. There are paid lots aplenty but they are pricey. If you get lucky you can snag a spot on the street. Suggest parking a few blocks away and walking. My only gripe with our experience here is our server disappeared towards the end of our meal. She was very attentive at first and then we never saw her again. My friend had to go inside the restaurant to flag someone down for boxes and check, and then again 15 min later to pay the bill. Still would highly recommend Queenstown Village for a great brunch! My wife and I were is La Jolla for a few days and my friend said this New Zealand restaurant is worth a try! We saw that there is a happy hour every day, and it is a great one. We ordered a pretzel, a meat pie, steak Caesar salad and a lamb kabob. I ordered a nice IPA with dinner and it mixed well with the meal. Our server brought out our wonderful banquet and they were all wonderful. Inside the restaurant they have a beautiful flower theme and I first tried the meat pie. I had some of these in Auckland before, they are the bomb! The pretzel was huge and perfect and they bring three dipping sauces, my favorite was the cheese, but the mustard was awesome as well. The lamb was super tender and plentiful and I just love lamb! They put a large hunk of steak on the Caesar salad and it was just fabulous, everything about this establishment is great! This place is an ideal spot for dates and a slow-paced, romantic dinner in the UTC area. I'm not much of a salad person normally when I eat out, but the salads here are incredibly delicious and stand-alone meals, and I especially enjoyed the shrimp and mango salad. Their burgers are amazing as well! The service can be a little bit slow at times but always friendly. Note that you have to use the bathroom inside the food court and the seating is outside, so may be good to bring a jacket on a cold day. The only con is that things are a bit on the pricier side (eg $24 for a salad) but could be worth it for the lovely outdoor ambiance and decor. Queenstown Village is a unique restaurant in La Jolla. Very high ceilings, an explosion of fake floral decor, a cute dining patio and attached coffee shop make for a good amount of available dining options. The vibe is daytime Vegas poolside club meets British tea room. We had brunch on a Sunday in June and were able to walk-in and be seated fairly quickly. Hostess and server were polite and well informed. The food is fresh with very large servings. Healthy choices range from traditional Farmers Breakfast to Avocado toast and fresh juices, then skews all the way to chicken and waffles or sausage gravy tater tot poutine. They also offer very good gluten free bread options. My boyfriend had one of the most delicious iced mochas we've ever tried and my iced Americano was excellent. Prices are normal for the area and a little high on the breakfast scale with most entrees running around $20 and coffees around $5. This is a good spot for digs, kids, large groups and reservations. Food was a 5 star Let's talk about the disappointing bad customer service. We got seated the waited 15 for our waitress to come and get our order. We ordered 2 coffees, a latte and food. The waitress never came back, we had to ask twice for water since our waitress was no where to be found. We got our food but not the coffee order till the end of our meal. I was very disappointed with the way we were ignored by our waitress. The other people around us had a different waitress and she was very attentive to her customers. At one point I had to ask her if she could ask our waitress to come over. The ambiance is nice. I don't know what happened with the service this time. I won't be returning to this restaurant. Customer service is very important, it can ruin a great day. Do better!!!! So disappointing read more

This is one of the most floral style beautiful romantic restaurants in San Diego! If you are looking for somewhere for a girls date, here's a great spot! It's New Zealand food. We came here and amazed by the cute decorations, you feel like to dine in a garden. We ordered some a Zealand staple - meat pie, and a beet salad, plus a flower pot bread and baked Brie. Everything is so delicious! I definitely love the meat pie a lot. The beet salad is also fresh and tasty. The baked Brie is yummy with honey and apple. We had two desserts, one is a dark chocolate cake, another is a meringue. The meringue is super delicious! I highly recommend it. The chocolate one is not impressive. But the most recommended one from me is the espresso martini flight! All three flavors are so great, it's really great flavors of the flight. I'll definitely recommend this place. read more

We asked for water four times, achieving hydration only through sheer persistence and the power of hope. Never actually saw our waiter; I'm convinced he's a local ghost. Absolutely love this place - the food is unique, they have great coffee service with drinks made with care, their pies are delicious, the alcoholic drinks are good, and the decor is wonderful. Also love the house music - it always has me groovin. I regularly get the Ahi tuna or the veggie pie. My family loves the breakfast items especially the fried chicken. The tables are large and spacious which we love as there's space for some cards whilst we wait. Sometimes the service can be a bit slow, but you're enjoying the ambience so much it doesn't matter much. We're regulars there - definitely check it out! read more

The ambiance is so pretty inside and out. Love all the little touches nice green glassware, seating areas and bar are well decorated with tasteful looking florals everywhere.
