We meet friends at this place and had heard mixed reviews. We sat outside and it was a little tight between the tables. Servers in fact were constantly hitting some of the chairs as they walked by and having to apologize. Chowder was very good and seafood was ok but not very favorable. While bringing out a tray of drinks to our table, the server tripped on another chair and spilled the tray of drinks down my back. Hey mistakes happen and it was no big deal I would live. The problem I had was besides the poor server, no one came over to help or apologize. The manager ran for the hills and the hostess turned her back. As she gave us our check she said that she did not charge us for one drink. Not that I wanted anything, but no manager, no hostess, and one drink for free after sitting in the chair soaked in a mixture of three different drinks seemed like they could have cared less. This hidden gem behind the atheneum many times has outdoor seating available when most other restaurants in Nantucket are booked. We find the food here just as good. The Mussels are as good as anywhere on the island, prepared in a tasty, savory chairizo red sauce. Steven, our waiter last night was sincerely kind and friendly with good suggestions. The shrimp scampi and scallops we had were prepared cleverly and tasted great, but really you can't go wrong here. Awful experience! My friends and I made a reservation for 9:30pm. We arrived on time but were rudely told by the hostess to "stand over there" while we waited for our table. Finally about 15 mins later we were seated, but waited at least another 15 mins before our waitress came over to great us. We ordered cocktails and inquired about snack options. Sadly we were told since it was after 10pm -- which was due to the fact that it took over 30 mins to get served -- the only food options were chips and guac/salsa or chicken wings. As if the gross food options weren't bad enough, we were then told we had to order 1 appetizer per every 2 people -- totally 3 appetizers for our group -- due to their restaurant policy regarding COVID-19 regulations. We decided to give it a ago and put in 3 orders of chips and guac at $8 each... chips were stale and the guac was barely a spoonful-size. Shortly after our food arrived, the manager came over and told us that we should not have made a reservation for 9:30pm if we had not planned on having a full dinner. So rude!!!! First off, if wasn't for your shitty service we would have considered ordering more food, but after 10pm our only options were chips and guac or chicken wings. Secondly, the chips and guac were way overpriced at $8 each and disgusting. Thirdly, we spent $160 in the brief 30 minutes we were there between food and booze, and would have spent even more money had we not felt so unwelcome and uncomfortable. read more

I had dinner at this restaurant with a few friends the first Friday in December. The menu was impressive. HOWEVER it was all down hill from there. The banquet seating was slanted and extremely u comfortable. To say the service was slow is an understatement. The menu said "diver scallops", but when the dinner came it was teeny tiny bay scallops. The steak was tiny, pre-sliced and freezing cold. We had to send the steak back twice. When asked to see the manager she proceeded to tell at us and tell us that the steak was not cold. How would she know? She wouldn't, the place is super small and this was the first time we saw her all night. I think her computer must run the restaurant for her because apparently she isn't able to make manual adjustments to the check. Don't eat here. read more

During our week long eating adventure on Nantucket we made a stop into Queequeg's. We were able to get a reservation for 7 outside on the same day, which was surprising. Our table was next to the bar, with sufficient room between the table and the bar stools. I mention this only because around the same time our apps came, two twenty something couples came in for drinks. There were only two bar stools available, so the boyfriends had to stand next to their soul-mates. One boyfriend decided to stand with his back to our table, with his butt about 4" from my 6 year old nieces face. This resulted in our niece sitting on her moms lap, and us asking the waitress to ask him to move. Well... He refused to move, and the four of them started joking about how "they will have to start coming here every week to cause trouble" and "why can't we just drink in piece.". Buttman turned around and smiled at me, and that's when came unglued. The whole scene (and yes, it was an embarrassing scene) thing lasted about 5 minutes with buttmans buddy threatening to kill me, me telling him to do it (he probably would have gotten a couple of punches in before I stabbed him with my butter knife) and buttmans friends girlfriend swearing, which got my sister-in-law involved... The whole thing was an embarrassing mess, and finally resulted in the 4 moving to the other end of the bar. We were slightly redeemed when the people at the other end of the bar told them they didn't want them there either, and the manager (FINALLY) came out to kick them out. Of course this led to more shouts of "what did we do", etc.... Now, I have NO problem with people drinking at a bar. I have NO problem with people drinking at a bar at 8:45 at night in a nice restaurant on vacation. BUT, if you know you are ruining someones $30 a plate dinner because your butt in a 6 year old girls face, human kindness should give way and you should move. Head over to the Rose and Crown, the Gazebo, the Chicken Box, the Muse, or Captain Toby's... There are enough drinking places on this small island to walk in and get a drink. It is much harder to get a reservation for 7! I must say I was also annoyed that it took the manager so long to defuse the situation, not that he actually did defuse it... Ok. Enough of that! You can't see the menu on the iPhone; it must have flash installed. My sister-in-law ordered the Greek salad, and my wife and I ordered the mussels. Both the salad and mussels were excellent. I ordered the short ribs (the house specialty) and my wife ordered the scallops. Again, both were excellent, but the mashed potatoes were dry (it must be an island thing, because we haven't had anything but dry since we've gotten here). We were given 2 crembrule's and 2 blueberry cream cheese (?) muffins as a comp for the earlier altercation (and a round of drinks). The crembrule's were ABSOLUTELY amazing, but the muffins were kind of dry... Overall it was an excellent meal - probably worth 5 stars if it wasn't "on island." competing with the other high end restaurants. read more

First time ever to Nantucket and on a whim tried this restaurant out. Sat outside in patio area, great place to eat and relax! Ordered Lobster Roll and Ceviche which was awesome! French fries are also amazing. Don't know what they season it with but it's great. The staff is very friendly and while it may be a little slow but worth it because everything is fresh. My boyfriend and I had dinner elsewhere, but wanted another drink so we stopped in here and sat at the bar. The place was almost empty, so the staff was talking amongst themselves as we sat and enjoyed our drinks (and each other's company). The bartender was very friendly and checked in on occasion, but mostly left us along which is actually what we wanted. I would say we got the most bang for our buck here during our Nantucket stay, as far as portion size, quality and service. The short ribs were probably the best I've had and our waiter was great--friendly and attentive. The lack of pretense is refreshing and I would love to come back. Hopefully next time we can get a table outside. I would just say they do need to get more on top of the bathroom situation. It could be cleaner and it's a little off-putting when you're there to have a meal and not just doing shots at the bar. Great Nantucket place, though and really glad it's here. read more

Got seated right away - a booth tucked next to the bar. Got excellent service from the bartender. Apps were really well done - mixed greens and calamari - very tasty. Pork chop and short ribs were delicious - I would have liked a bit more sauce on the ribs, but I like a lot of sauce! Kids had chicken fingers and totally loved them - they were served in a more sophisticated way than is usual. Great space, food and service. read more

Extremely cozy and low key atmosphere. I had a great lunch here on a crisp autumn day. The hearty beef stew really hit the spot and I was so excited that it contained parsnips! You have to be kidding me. Our waiter could not be bothered serving us and the food was marginal at best. Never again !

We are first timers on the island and went to this restaurant really excited to go in. We are all 21 years of age. We give our ids and after the second one (we are all from same state so have identical ids) waiter decides to take the remaining two. Give to bouncer who proceeds to come over and tell us he's confiscating all of the ids. We protest saying these are our real licenses and need them to fly home. He then threatens to give them to police to scan. We go "please give them to police." My friend goes with him to police who goes on to laugh at bouncer to have ever questioned their authenticities. Come back to the bouncer continuing to rudely defend himself. Waiter apologizes and then after 20 mins of awkwardly sitting they give us free shots realizing how wrong they were. So so uncomfortable... meanwhile we sat at 9:15 for a 9 reservation and it is currently 10:06 and we are still waiting for appetizers! Despite the fact that we went at 6:00 pm after Labor Day, our waiter said that he hadn't heard of the "2 for $25" special mentioned in the earlier reviews. The food was Ok, but not great, and very expensive even for Nantucket. Like $14 for a Caprese salad first course. The waiter was absent most of the time. One very irritating thing is the bread service. The bread was good, but served by the small half slice without butter. We had to ask for a second half slice when the mostly absent waiter reappeared. Also had to ask for water refills. Not a great experience overall. There are plenty of other places on ACK at better prices. read more

Had a fantastic dinner at Queequeg's. Ordered the salmon, rare, over sweet corn risotto, and it was perfection. The wait staff was attentive, and the atmosphere was relaxing and not pretentious, which is something I find some of the restaurants on the island to be. We were on the Island without a car so were limited to restaurants in Town, of which there are a ton. I was with my daughter so didn't want anything too lofty but not as casual as somewhere like The Tavern. This was the perfect choice, and the food was terrific. read more

Maybe 3 1/2 stars? We did wait a long time for someone to come over. I made my bf go to the bar to get us a glass of wine because I didn't want to wait any longer. The server apologized and the rest of the service was good. We had one of the side tables on the sidewalk. Not the best seat but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and we didn't make reservations so our own fault. Popular place on a beautiful evening. We were told 40 minute wait. We gave her our cell #. And went to boarding house for a drink. We came back about 50 mins later and our table was just being cleared. The food made us happy. Prosciutto cod, asparagus and truffle fries all very good. Of course expensive but portions are generous, it tasted delicious and served hot, so we can live with the tab. One recommendation though..The lighting was awful. I had to put my purse , my phone, and a napkin over lighting to make it bearable. Sure, the nautical lights are cute, but I felt like I was being interrogated..."yes officer, i did ride my bike the wrong way up a one way street " ...may I suggest little white lights to frame the windows we were sitting under? Had an absolutely dynamite meal here last week. We called for an 8:30 reservation, and were told that while there was a large party seating at 7:00, they'd find a way to accomodate us if we didn't mind sitting outside. Well, outdoor dining (or enjoying a drink while waiting for a table) is something I never mind. For starters I had roasted mussels, and she had the crab cakes. The mussels were perfect, and a sizeable portion, although I'm not used to mussels being the priciest app on a menu. They had a delicious tomato-garlic-wine broth, and the waiter brought extra bread (unprompted!) for me to soak it up I only had a small bite of the crab cake, but it was solid. We had the same entree (which we usually try to avoid doing, but it looked great) - the roasted halibut over a lobster-fingerling hash with Maiitake mushrooms. The fish was perfect, firm and flaky, and the accoutrements offered great textural counterpoints. We each had 2-3 beers (local Cisco brewery products) and the check came to about $130. Queequeg's is our go-to place when we want a mix of comfort and quality. The food is always excellent. My wife and I dine here at least 4-5 times/year, and I cannot remember a dish I did not like. The weak point can certainly be the service. Although generally friendly and competent, it can often take a while from when you're seated until a drink order is taken and served. The location is small and charming. Although more spacious in the warmer months due to outdoor seating, we love the comfortable environs indoors on a cold blustery night. read more

We recently had a horrible experience at Queeqegs. We simply wanted dinner and a few drinks at the bar. Upon arrival, we seemed to be sitting among several people who had been way over-served by the bartender. Most of the people were no trouble -- ie, they were benignly smashed and, in our observation, receiving additional drinks from the bartender. However, one couple -- two women seemingly in their mid 50s -- were verbally abusive toward us (eg, we had curses yelled at us and we demeaned in other ways). Despite witnessing this, the bartender continued to serve them alcohol -- when any reasonable person would have known that they should have been cut-off from further service. At the very least, the bartender's conduct was egregiously irresponsible. While we thought of calling the police, because these self-proclaimed "locals" may be driving home, we simply decided to leave and end a beginning-to-end terrible experience -- ie, our food and drink was, at best, average. The persistent abuse from these two customers was simply too much to take. We have not ruled-out advising the local police of what we observed and that we're concerned about patrons being over-served to the point where they become a menace. read more

But salad was too oily and chowder had a little too much extra stuff in it like bacon, etc. We ordered the halibut over lobster risotto which sounded unreal and was the most expensive item on the menu so expectations were high. However the halibut was a little plain, not marinated or seasoned well enough, and the risotto had peas in it, which gave it a frozen-now-microwaved feel. I am a huge fan of this place for lunch/brunch in their outdoor area the "Tree Bar". Their lobstah roll is honestly tops 3 on this heavenly island we all call Nantucket. Love this little place tucked just off one of the main drags. Lucky to have stumbled on it, perfect spot for an outdoor lunch and drinks! The tree bar is really cool. My wife and I and 3 grown kids all were very, very happy with with the food and service (no small accomplishment). The prices were much more affordable than other places in town. Gotta admit, hubby and I went here for the name. We're fans of Moby Dick, so of course we had to check out Queequeg's. However, not that we expected a cheesy "theme" of any sort, there are no references to Ishmael's tattooed pal or Melville's novel in any way, not in the menu or in the decor. In other words, if you are expecting a harpoon hanging over your head while you are eating, go to Captain Tobey's. They have that sort of thing. Queequeg's, despite being named for a badass pagan cannibal harpooner, is a restrained dining establishment, and you DO need reservations if you are there in August. As we sat on the delightful deck on a Wednesday evening, we witnessed dozens of hopeful people being turned away. It was really quite busy, but as we enjoyed our food,, we did not feel rushed in any way. I got a swordfish special and I'm SO glad I did. It was excellent; I might say the best piece of fish I ever tasted. It was not even swordfish, it was that good. It was magical alien mystery fish. YUM!!! However, I had to knock off a star on behalf of my beloved dining companion. He got the short rib, full sized, and it was a shockingly small portion, even though in a place like Queequeg's, one is not expecting the plate to be overflowing. I was hoping he would LOVE it, but he gave it a solid "Meh". Another star might be sacrificed to the martini gods. The martinis are $15--come ON! Even for Nantucket, that is crazy. Again, if you are hoping for a wonderful martini and don't want to break the bank, I'd send you off to Captain Tobey's where the hot and dirty is hot and awesome, and not fifteen damn dollars. But back to Qeequeg's. I did get a glass of wine that was fine and set me back a big eight bucks--now that's more like it. Our waiter was very nice, not intrusive, and I'd say the overall pace of the meal was perfect. And how hilarious is the single slice of bread they give you with the prissy little silver tongs? Cute, Queequeg, but if you are hoping to fancy it up, do NOT offer plastic creamer thingies with the coffee. Smarten up and get the cute little pitcher! read more

We went here on a Friday night with no reservation and got right in. To start we ordered the calamari and mussels- they were delicious. The mussels were grilled and had that smoky flavor still as well as the broth they are served in. The clam chowder consistency was not thick as most are but the flavor was very rich and more then compensated- the irony was surprising in a good way. We rolled through for a nice dinner on a Saturday night. No reservations but they got us right in. The outdoor seating was adorable but we were sat inside where the ambience was pretty great as well. Lots of whales in a cute little space. I had a great glass of Pinot Noir for $8. We were feeling a little bit of after effects from the night before so we were not in for lots of food. She got a salad that was great ($12), and I got an outrageously delicious short rib, half sized ($15). I asked the server what the difference was between the half and full sized and for an extra $10 you go from 2 to 3 ribs so it didn't seem worth it. Heres where they lose a star, the service was pretty bad. Not outright rude, but very slow and not attentive. It was clearly not because the wait staff was overworked or generally inept, but because they clearly did not care about us because we had a bill on the low side. Watching them swoon over the table of very loud women next to us while we were ignored was almost insulting. read more
