The technician​ could not fulfil his duty. I sat in my stairwell with my dog for 30 min while I kept suggesting he try the back door since I could tell he wasnt going to get the front door open. My back door is enclosed in a gated area. I had my dog and I wasn't worried about him running away. I was going to jump the fence and then open the gate for the tech. But he told me "oh no worries, I'll do it..". I didn't need him to do that. I'm erfectly capable of jping a fence and the point was for him to unlock my door to my apartment. Then when we were at my back door he couldn't even open that one!!! I got myself in through a window and he told me I still had to pay full price. The woman whom my bank and I talked to together in effort to explain to her that we thought this was absolutely a ridiculous charge, was EXTREMELY rude and she was saying that I had to pay the full price because her technician risked his well-being to jump the fence. What a joke!!!! I did not ask him to do that and he didn't fulfil the terms of our agreement (again to unlock my apartment door). I never received terms of service and was willing to pay for his time. But the full price for a service they couldn't fulfil-- thieves and horable business ethics for sure!!! At least my bank had my back and refunded me but still the ethics of this business just irks me. I do NOT recommend. read more

I recently had a contractor install a "new" back door. When he left I had a cracked door that didn't seal, a deadbolt that didn't open or close, and 3 doors in which the contractor had access to because he wouldn't give me my keys back. Josh came to rekey my locks as well as install a new deadbolt. He arrived early (when does that ever happen when someone comes to work on your house?) and explained the work that needed to be done and the costs that would be associated with it. After my acceptation he proceeded with the work. He was professional and the work was done quickly. When Josh left I had a new deadbolt that locked and unlocked, piece of mind that noone would be entering my house uninvited, and even a door that sealed keeping the rain and snow from coming in. Jay was great! I had an emergency lock repair/replacement. When I called I was told that he would be here in 20-40 minutes. He arrived within that time frame. The job turned out to be more complicated than he originally thought, but he was patient and never got flustered. He communicated well and informed me of what he was doing at every step of the repair. Everything was back in working order within half-an hour. We had QKL out to give us an estimate on re-keying all exterior locks to one key, and making sure the two keypads were both working correctly & programmed to the same code. First & foremost, they sent a guy who seemingly could not understand what we wanted at all. He seemed very novice at best. We had asked about putting keypads on our new gates. We also wanted a 3 point lock changed from a Schlage to a Quickset mechanism. We received the estimate to the tune of over $2,000 and told we needed all new locks. Period. Which sounded excessive to us. We had Chicago Locksmith out and all work was done (the gates could not be done without major welding, so we nixed that idea) all, for just under $400 bucks. In subsequent conversations with QKL, we were told that the estimate was firm and that's what needed to be done, no compromise. When we questioned the rep about a $40 charge for changing a keypad code (no re-keying), we were told, "I'm sorry you don't agree with our pricing policy." No service recovery at all. My gut feeling? These folks are out to take the customer for as much as they can. Period. Avoid. read more

The ignition in our 04 Honda Odyssey was going bad. Didn't know that could happen, but apparently its fairly common. I called around to a bunch of different locksmiths, trying to find just the right guy for the job. Eli was it. He did arrive later than the appointed time but he was worth the wait. He was personable, and clearly good at what he does as he was done with a complicated job within an hour. The price was less than half what the dealer quoted. Had a problem with a kryptonite bike lock on a Saturday afternoon. Bike was locked on the street and was not openable due to a failure with the lock mechanism. Called and had the lock cut less than 90 minutes later. As an FYI the lock required a power tool to cut it so it is not like the lock can just be picked. On related note the manufacturer is replacing the lock and paying for the service call. read more

Back on 06/16/2018 I had QKL come out to my parent's place in Naperville to replace several deadbolt locks and door knobs. The tech came on time and called before he arrived (no last minute surprises). The work was done as requested (took a little bit longer than I expected but not overly so) and the lock works great and my parents are happy with the new lock. Price was reasonable and a bit lower than one of their major competitors. The tech was friendly and was eager to make sure that I was satisfied with the work that was done. Also gave me some free advice on some other window/patio lock solutions. The only thing that could have been made the experience better is that the equipment that the tech had in his truck could not create copies of my key. Basically my key was too large to fit into the portable jig that is used to make copies. Given the size of the Baldwin key, it was not completely surprising since the key is rather large/distinctive. Overall I am happy with the service & cost and their availability to work on weekends. read more

We hardly use use our patio and decided that we needed more outdoor time now that the summer is here. Well after getting my fill of the sun I came inside and tried to lock our patio doors. Whoa! Why won't the door locks engage?!? Our patio faces a busy street albeit behind a brick wall but now the doors won't lock and we are on a busy street! After spending a good 30 minutes playing with the doors and visions of home invasions with our vulnerable patio doors, we called Quick Locksmith. After a quick description of our dilemma they sent David out within the hour. Within 15 minutes of being there David explained to us that we had these tricky European style doors where we had to engage the handles in a certain position to lock the doors. From initial contact (help!) to diagnosis (we can't handle our fancy patio doors!) there was utmost professionalism and extensive knowledge of doors & door locks. Very happy with the service! On July 21, I listened to Violet from Quick Key and chose to give them a chance over the gold standard Non-Stop Locksmith -- for our Condo Association's needs We needed our intercom serviced and they sent a technician who had just turned 20 (!) and was learning the business on the job. He spent 2 hours diagnosing and his solution was to stuff a small piece of folded paper behind a button and the charge was $145 -- $65 for a service charge, $45 for a "troubleshooting" charge, and $35 for a "button". Seriously??? Dave took my credit card information and said the office would send me a detailed invoice --- and after 3 emails and 4 angry phone calls, I finally got an invoice that looked like my kid brother wrote it on a template of Microsoft Excel - no description of service, no date of service, no company logo or address -- extremely shady. One of the recommendations of Dave was to replace the intercom and we were told the $145 would be credited towards that system - and yet when I called Violet to schedule the installation of a new system, they refused to honor what their employee had offered, stating that Dave was no longer with the company. Moreover (and here's the kicker) - she made a point to note that IF they found further issues they would charge me additional troubleshooting and service charges! I was extremely upset with this and asked why would we have to pay for another diagnosis in the event Dave's diagnosis was deficient -- as Dave was their employee and his technical skills (or lack thereof) were their problem not ours. Violet got pretty rude on the phone very quickly and said those were the terms and I was to accept the terms of additional charges or they would NOT install the building. This is a firm that operates in BAIT AND SWITCH tactics -- they say anything to get you to hire them, then lay on all the charges -- service call, diagnostic fee, troubleshooting fee -- and those are all BEFORE they have even solved the issue! STAY AWAY from them ! There are a million better honest hard working locksmiths --- and if you don't know any go on Home Advisor. These people are all about money and bogus charges, and zero service and honoring of their commitments. P.S. They have a super huge turnover of locksmiths - so beware, the reviews on the locksmiths does NOT have anything to do with the company itself. **This company offers a huge discount in exchange for an instant POSITIVE review -- do not be fooled.* read more
