Had to take my lady to the Yellow Store for the 1st time. She grew up in LA so the concept of cutty drinks or Bay Area hood drinks were more than foreign to her. Quick Pick is located on an unassuming street (Hillside Blvd) in Daly City across from a gas station. Its just outside Colma city limits. The pre-packaged small alcohol bottle (think airline size) drink kits come in many combinations and vary in price. You tell the owner behind the counter which one you want, she went with Gangsta's Paradise (Hpnotiq, Ciroc Coconut, Ciroc Red Berry and Dole pineapple juice). There are so many different drink combos all with their own signature names. The owner is super cool and will let you know what the most popular ones are. Expect to spend a little under or just above $10 for each drink kit. Perfect for pre or post-party drinks. After you pay, you are handed a styrofoam cup, lid and straw. Came here all the time when I was little for my mom's Diet Coke & Bacardi fix at the time, until I hit 21 & it's my fresh turn to fill her shoes since she's a Cougar & all now. I specifically come here for my "Go Dumb" mixed drink when I'm ready to go out & Go Dumb. Ingredients: Hyphy Juice, Bacardi Limon, Bacardi Apple, & Tanqueray. All mixed together in that wonderful complimentary foam cup for $8.50 (not bad compared to a puny $8 RedBull/Vodka at the bar that doesn't EVER kick in) is somethin' wonderful. I always seem to repeat myself, "Mmmmm, doesn't it just taste like jellloo before you freeze it?" LOL yum! They have plenty of other drinks & I mean PLENTY! I recommend a Sexy Hawaiian on those hot summer days to the beach, or a 187 if you're feeling crazy! Otherwise, any pick is safe, you won't be disappointed. I lived on A Street from 1987 - 2000 and literally grew up seeing the "Yellow Store" outside of my window. I used to walk there as a child in the early 90's every Saturday morning. My big brother would be hungover from a night out at The Sound Factory or City Nights so he would ask me to buy him Newports "in a box." (This was obviously well before IDs were reinforced.) Back in the day, I always got myself a pickle or some random Lucas candy while I was there. The owner knew my family and my mom had a tab at the market so it was all good. I went there today after many, many years and it felt just like home. Not much has changed and the owner is very nice and personable. I need to find out what kind of paint they use because I swear it's still the same shade of pale yellow as back in the day! Quick Pic, I love you. This place is just something you have to see for yourself. When my friends told me about 'mixed drinks you get in a ziplock bag and put into a styrofoam cup,' the first thing I thought was, "Um, ghetto??" But now it's more of "Um, AWESOME!!!" The drinks, which are the creations of the owner himself, each have their own unique name. If at all possible I would wanna try each and every one of them lol! I wanna say there's about 30+ combinations. I've tried quite a few, but the last couple of ones I've went with were the Pink Panther, Go Dumb, and Go Crazy. You pick out your flavors -- each bag has between 3-4 bottles of alcohol and 1 juice, pay at the register (drinks are between $7-$11), and get a white styrofoam cup. "Ice is in the back," he says. And you're good to go. My friends refer to the drinks as "make-out in a cup." Because although those bottles may look small, combined, they get the job done. The older woman in the morning is really fun to talk to, always has good advice and there is always a smile on her face. U will know who she is with her signature red lipstick. The other lady who is there during the day is really nice. She is also nice to look at ! she is always so friendly and she has such a beautiful face and personality. The Yellow Store. Forget the Blue Store a block up. The Yellow Store is where it's at. Okay, well to be honest, I come to the yellow store solely for the owner. He's folk. He remembers me by name and he's just such a fun guy to talk to. I was going to Al's from like high school to 2008 and tried a bunch of other stores here and there, but despite seeing the same ol' workers at the front, they never gave me that good good customer service like they do at the Yellow Store. You see, I must really love the Yellow Store to NOT dock a star down despite never getting a hook up on anything. I'd hope for a hook up, but then again people gotta make their own, too. I guess the lack of discount gets compensated by the awesome customer service and cold bottles of Hennessey. PS. Try the drink kits. The owner comes up with those drinks by himself. This is the spot (for me and my boyz from work) after a long and rough day. Thanks to one homie that has a bunch of faves, I've been able to taste a lot of different mixes. I enjoy the Watermelon Jolly Rancher, Green Ghost and Red Russian the most. If you have a high tolerance, just add a shot and it doesn't change the flavor that much. I'm not an everyday drinker, but it's an absolute MUST on a Friday. The drinks aren't really expensive if you compare it to what you would get for the same price at a bar or restaurant and you can take that styrofoam cup anywhere you want. They have all these combinations of those little mini-bar sized liquors and mixers with crazy names like Sexual Chocolate and Gasoline, etc. For like $8 you can choose one of the weird combinations (all packaged up in a ziploc- this is where the bag comes into play...see I wouldn't leave you hanging) and they'll give you a big styrofoam cup, a straw and let you fill it up with ice. This is my favorite place to get "hood drinks". The "Go Dumb" which consists of Bacardi run ,Seagrams gin, grey goose vodka + hyphy juice was my favorite, but the Ooze will get you drunk. Since hyphy juice has been discontinued it was replaced with green apple monster which doesn't have the same taste. My new favorite has two shots of peach ciroc a personal size of cooks champagne with a splash of dole pineapple juice. Check it out and get a bag of hot Cheetos. read more

Finally got the chance to come here yesterday . They have drink kits that come in ziploc bags which is cool . So basically , they pre-pick mini bottles of alcohol and juices or energy drinks that they think go well together . Then they put the combination in a ziplog bag . The names for these ziploc bags are really interesting . Each drink kit ranges from about $8-$10 . It's pretty cool ... they even give you a styrofoam cup for you to add ice to from the ice machine . So far , I only been to one other store that sells drink kits in ziploc bags . From this store , I've only tried the Green Ghost so far and I didn't really like it . I purchased a Go Dumb as well but I still haven't tried it yet . Will definately be back to try more . read more

just past the cemetaries of colma, on an unassuming street in DC, lies perhaps the greatest liquor store in all of the land. i was quite skeptical at first, but i ventured into the place and i saw the light. okay, they don't have the largest selection, and they may not have the cheapest prices, but they set themselves apart with their drink kits. i will most certainly be a repeat customer. they have a huge selection of magical drink kits that range from about 7 to 10 dollars. They generally come with three small shot sized liquors and a mixer. obviously the ones with more booze or higher quality booze will be in the 10 dollar range. the ones i tried were the store titled quick pic and some other one. they were both fantastic. the other one that i had included two bottles of rum, a bottle of hennesey, and a bottle of premixed mudslide. it was pretty absurd. the quick pic tasted like a jolly rancher. the kicker is that they also give you a large styrofoam cup, ice, and a straw. excellent. read more
