Parking can be tough even with a huge lot, but you're bound to find some during early hours. Love that there's a sheng kee bakery with my favorite buns and baked goods! Always a must go to whenever I come to ranch 99. My second stop is the hot food section because the dimsum selection is top tier. You get all the best options and you get to create your box. I love chatting with the cashier as she's so so kind. They have great weekly deals and keep up with restocking the shelves! The grocery item selection at this 99 Ranch is quite extensive ranging from Filipino to Chinese items. The prices are bit more expensive compared to local chains like Pacific Super and Manila Oriental. The ambiance is somewhat spacious and is easy to find what you need from the isles. However, customer service is very lacking on cashier 4 at 7:40PM on Saturday, May 10, 2025. The cashier lady on station 4 named Lwin Lwin Cho (probably in her late 30s to mid 40s, and about 5'5 tall) is very dismissive, unprofessional and rude to my mom and I. I asked nicely if I could scan my membership card here and she dismissively in an irate tone, "no, that's online order only!" I explained to her that I shop at other 99 Ranch locations and they scan my membership card without questions. She shrugged my inquiry and I felt that I was disrespected as a customer. Try to avoid the weekends as it is very busy. The market has a variety of Asian products include fresh meat and seafood. Make sure you look closely at the fresh vegetables as they can be hit and miss as today's visit we were looking for spinach and the quality of the bunches were not good. Once upon a time they had a mice issue (droppings) in the aisle where the 25 and 50# bags of rice were displayed however, during recent visits it appears the staff had sealed the opening in the bottom bins where these bags are displayed. If one spends a minimum of $40 you will receive coupons to trade in for hot deli food where one can over pack the To Go containers. So close to my house but it's my least fav b-ranch. First the parking is so hard, not to mention so tight and small. Second, the employees there including the one at Shengkee are all unfriendly. I used to come here a lot for their hot deli, but the quality changed signifcantly. I went here 3 nights ago, after getting pedi at Nail Club across, and to my surprise they were close at 7pm (normal closing 9PM). I later found on on the Nexrdoor App that they were closed to do failing county health inspections. I heard there are rats! At the fresh seafood services, apparently you have to tell them to specifically save the roe which you will be charged for when they weigh / prepare your fish to calculate the price. They will automatically discard the fish eggs (roe) which is a huge waste as the eggs make up a good amount of the weight. The eggs (roe) are edible. 99 Ranch is a staple for getting your pan-Asian goodies (though more specifically Taiwanese ones). It may not be as cheap as a wet market but you can't argue that grocers like 99 Ranch, H Mart, Pacific, or Nijiya haven't done a good job making Asian food much more accessible. 99 Ranch now has an online ordering systems that....I haven't tried but I do use to check for weekly deals and that's how I decide when I will come to shop. 99 Ranch is also great during Asian holidays because you can easily get all the goodies as a one stop shop. Some weeks are also double coupon weeks so for every $20, you'll get a $2 coupon (instead of $1) to spend at the bakery or the hot deli. The deli is definitely where it's at! This review is for the deli. If you are going to get some groceries, make sure that you checkout with your groceries first. For every $20 that you buy of groceries, you get a $1 coupon to spend at the deli. The best deal at the deli is the $13.55 self-serve meal combo. They give you a large square take-out box and pre-filled with your choice of either rice or noodles. The four options are fried rice, vermicelli noodles, chow mein and fried rice noodles. The box is about half full at this point. Then, you fill the rest of the box with your choice of meats and vegetables. You can fill the box with as much as you want, as long as it can still be closed at the end. I like that you can get a lot of different flavors in one box. Also, the filled box weighed at least three pounds, and will probably last me 3-4 meals. None of the dishes were labeled, so you have to recognize them by sight. The dishes that were available when I was there were: 1) Roast Duck 2) Fried Chicken 3) Fried Salt & Pepper Pork Chops 4) Fried Fish 5) Fried, Breaded Chicken (?) You know, if I had written this after my first couple of visits here, it'd be so different. Back then, trying to find a parking space was always a challenge and it could get a bit chaotic inside with all of the crowds (especially around the seafood area). Yet, the wealth of what they had to offer and the convenience of picking up so many household staples in a single stop (mostly) made the hassle worthwhile. Fast forward all of these years later and Ranch is still one of my regular go-to spots, albeit with a lot less shine on it than it used to have... Compared to some of their other locations that I've been to, this particular one feels a bit dated and worn. While it's not run down in any way, the fixtures and just the general look of the place is starting to show its age. That being said, the fact that this also seems to be one of their largest more than makes up for its appearance. Inside, you'll find the usual bakery and hot food counters (including deli and dim sum offerings), a large produce section, a ton of freezers for frozen foods, and a sizable array of meats and seafoods. Of course, that's to say nothing of their pantry staples, including chips, snacks, teas, coffees, sauces, spices, houseware, and an ever growing selection of instant noodles. In short, if there's some sort of Asian food item you need, there's a decent chance Ranch will have it! Compared to the likes of Pacific Super or the smaller Sunset Super/25th & Irving Markets in SF, they're pretty comparable to each other, with some better than others depending on the specific regard. For example, prices at Sunset Super/25th and Irving are a bit cheaper for a variety of things (and closer to me), but they're smaller in size and don't offer the same fish frying option as the other two. Meanwhile, Pacific Super (the newer one on Westborough) is larger, cleaner, and has a better selection of fresh fish and meats, but their produce section is very hit or miss in quality (their variety is about the same). As for Ranch, their prices seem to trend the highest of the three, but they have the best overall selection, especially when it comes to frozen dumplings, hot pot goodies, and shabu-style sliced meats. What drags Ranch down from the four stars I would've given them in years past is that the quality of their food seems to be declining. The fresh fish is where I notice it the most, though I get that it largely depends on what's available. Their sashimi offerings, on the hand, have really fallen off (either that or it's always been bad and it's just more noticeable now). Yes, the likes of Nijiya, H-Mart, or Kukje are a better bet regardless, but in the past, the small blocks of tuna, salmon, hamachi, and octopus actually looked and tasty pretty decent. However, the last few times I've looked at/had them, the hamachi, in particular, always has a sickly coloring to it, the uni is oddly dark, and the octopus tentacles don't taste nearly as fresh as they used to. The one thing that haven't had in a long time, that I'm actually curious about trying again is their hot food counter. Based on the times I used to pick up a lunch combo on the go, I thought the food was pretty decent. As a whole, it's comparable to what you'd find at Panda Express. Even though nothing is as good as Panda's Orange Chicken, they have a wider range of options that are a bit more authentic (as opposed to Panda's Chinese-American offerings). It also doesn't hurt that if you spend a certain amount on your groceries (I think $50 is the minimum threshold), they give you coupons to spend on their deli items in the future. This is definitely a one stop shop supermarket. They have their own bakery (Sogo). They sell baked goods and birthday cakes. There's a self service food station that has freshly cooked food and dim sum. They even have made-to-order wonton noodle soup and porridge. They also sell bbq items like roast ducks, soy sauce chickens, bbq pork, roast pork, and cuttlefish. This supermarket has a fish department that sells live shrimp, fish, clams, and dungeness crabs (when in season). They also sell previously frozen fish, shrimp, fish balls, and fish paste. They will clean, scale, and cut the fish the way you want it. They also offer to fry the fish for free. They will put salt on them (upon frying them) upon request. There's a meat department there. They sell prepackaged different cuts of beef, chicken, and pork. They also sell chicken gizzards and pig intestines as well. If you want to buy spareribs, pork bones, and chunks of pork, they have them at the counter. You ring the bell when you need help. They will cut the spareribs or pork bones in small pieces for you. They also sell thinly sliced meats for hotpot too. There are lots varieties of fresh vegis and fruits at this supermarket. You can even buy fruits by the case like mangos, kiwis, apple pears, and Hawaiian papayas. They also sell mangosteen, jackfruits, dragon fruits, lychees, durain, and longans when they're in season. I went to this location after I got my nails done within this plaza. I usually frequent The 99 Ranch market in El Cerrito in which I like very much so. The complaints I have about this market in particular is the security guard and the cashier who works at the pastry section. Once I walked in. I was stared at by the security guard as if I should not be within the vicinity. I tried to ignore his stares due to me having to pick up my dinner for my family. As I proceeded to the pastry section. I kindly asked the cashier if she could box up the pastry of my desire she stated with a nasty tone and attitude "what do I want?", after I repeated to her what I wanted, she rang up my order and handed me my receipt. OnceI I gathered all of my groceries and went to the checkout lane the cashier rang my order up and asked if I wanted a bag I stated yes. I assumed it was her job to bag my grocery but no, she did not my grocery sat there in the check out line, with those actions I just initially bagged my own grocery in which it was one bag. After I proceeded to walk out of the store, the security guard stared at me continuously until I went outside and waited for my Lyft. Due to my experience within this location, I will not be returning. I will only return to the location in El Cerrito due to their great customer service.
