    Vietnamese Iced Coffee

Coming from a family who use to own a donut shop, I'm a bit picky on my donuts. They have to have the right texture, taste, and level of sweetness (which is not too sweet). I tried both a glazed donut and chocolate glazed from Royal Donut and they met my donut standards. Upon entering the donut shop, I was immediately greeted by the owner. He was very friendly and you can tell he came from a hard working background. During this visit, I also ordered a Vietnamese Iced Coffee and Thai Iced Tea. As the other reviews have said, the Vietnamese Iced Coffee is great. He even asks you how sweet you want it (which I rarely get asked!) I will be returning in the future for my donut cravings and Vietnamese Iced Coffee!

People raved about the Vietnamese Coffee at Royal Donut so I figured I'd give it a shot while having a couple donuts. The Royal Donut is located in a busy location in Daly City, but it's worth the trip especially if you want to go grocery shopping too at the Ranch 99. The store is definitely old fashioned, but the customer service is friendly and patient. The only downside is that they only take cash and I was lucky enough to have enough cash. Two donuts and a Vietnamese Coffee made my total $12.85 with most of the damage to my wallet being from the coffee. It was a pretty good Vietnamese Coffee though. They also asked what sweetness level I wanted which is definitely nice. I opted for regular which honestly is perfect to me. I enjoyed my drink a lot and you can see your drink being prepared in front of you. I also felt like pigging out on some Maple Bacon Donuts and a Glazed Donut. The bacon may not have been crispy, but it really tastes great with the maple donut. Both donuts were so good. They were soft and fluffy on the inside. I'm surprised I haven't tried this donut shop sooner. Definitely one of the better donut shops I've been to in a while.

Delicious donuts that delight the taste buds, paired with outstanding customer service and a warm, inviting atmosphere. Our family has cherished this place for over 30 years, starting with my husband's father, then my husband himself, and now our son looks forward to our weekly visits here. Each time, we enjoy the comforting familiarity and joy that this beloved spot brings to our family. The absolute best part about this place is the owner! Thank you for always being so warm and caring towards my son. We really appreciate it!

Donuts and coffee!! Yum. I crave a donut once in a while and out of the blue so I found this place and saw my yelp friend, Dean, try this place so I had to too! First impressions, lots of donut varieties! Owner is super nice! ** we got: - Vietnamese coffees: tasted a little like hazelnut. I like it buts it not how I usually like it made (I make mine at home) but still very good! 3.5/5 stars - maple donut: WOAH. Definitely something that's worth trying. I wish the bacon was crunchy tho :(. But sweet and savory! What a combo - banana donut twist?: recommended by the staff and yum!! I'm craving it right now :( Definitely coming back soon for some donuts! So light and fluffy as well

Simple glazed donut on left (excellent), famous banana bear claw on right (good, a little sweet)

So I have to admit, I didn't really like the famous banana bear claw. But I think that was entirely my fault. In my head, I had been picturing an actual bread-based pastry, with some banana flavoring in it. With nuts on top. I have no idea why. It's pretty clear from the pictures exactly what you're getting: a glazed donut, shaped like a bear claw, with a slab of ripe banana on the inside. So here's what I'll say: If that's what you're expecting, you're really going to like this. You might think it's a little bit sweet but you're going to like it. I also got a simple glazed yeast donut for my wife, who is a connoisseur of such things. She said it was probably the best glazed donut she's ever had. And, yes, the lady who works at the donut shop is super nice. I'm planning to go back and get more regular donuts that I actually want and leave the bear claws to you folks who actually like bear claws. Quick Tip: It's easier to enter the parking lot from the Southgate Ave side. You'll be closer to the donut shop and not have to navigate as much of the treacherous parking lot.

Loved the donuts here! Not too sweet, the dough is not too light like Krispy Kreme but not too dense either, just right! The guy who helped us was also really nice, he could be the owner maybe. We'll definitely be back!

Donut holes, Chocolate twist, Strudel, Croissant
    Elena N.

A friend was on the way to pick me up and grabbed some donuts. He brought them on Saturday, January 5th around 2:30pm. I believe we got a few donut holes, a chocolate twist, a strudel, and some kind of croissant. I tried a donut hole and part of the strudel. I like my donuts light and fluffy, but these were a little dense and bready. Not sure what they are like fresh from the store, but they just weren't my style of doughnut. At least they weren't too sweet. I'm not a fan of overly sweet donuts either. Maybe they're better straight from the store, but for takeout, I didn't love them. Overall, A-OK.

As soon as we walked in, the owner and my husband greeted each other like he's been there way too many times this week. I didn't realize the guy working at the register before was actually the owner! You can tell he's a sweet, family man who's also very hardworking. I imagine he tells a lot of dad jokes (gotta love it!) He asked if we wanted more donut holes for the kids, and if I wanted an old fashioned donut and a maple bacon again. Wait, again? Did he remember our order from before? Do I just look like the type to order those items (he's far from wrong)? How many times has my husband secretly ordered from here.. all the questions. Inside the shop are your staple items: dated donut photos, little coin machines to grab those slimy toy hands that you throw on the wall, and photos of his family (awww!). When I asked the owner for his secret on the strength of the Vietnamese iced coffee, he laughed, "I can make it stronger than that!" I laughed too.. then quickly took my cup off the counter before agreeing to any type of additional sorcery! I can't say it enough... this place is amazing, the owner is amazing, and the donuts and drinks are on point. Get on over there!

Best donut guy ever. Plus the donuts are great. Nice snack on a rainy day with coffee was sorely needed.

If they're busy, they might forget to call your name and you'll need to go get the food yourself, which is frankly impossible to fathom when you come from San Francisco. But Pacifica is different, y'know?   Anyway.  ------------------------------ First, the turkey sandwich. 5/5 I'm guilty of expecting the meat to be the focus on a sandwich, but in this case the turkey was the filler, which, as a carnivore, is there a better meat filler? Bread, dijon, lettuce, turkey, queso. The dijon did for flavor what the lettuce did for texture, throwing in a twang that kept the sandwich interesting. Its creaminess tag-teamed with the cheese to keep the sandwich in one piece. Great sidekicks. The turkey was... Nothing special. Clean but mundane, for the star of the show was the bread.    Some of you might roll your eyes.  No shiet, Sherlock.  THIS. IS.  A bakery.   Cuz some of you might roll your eyes.  It's just bread.    But this isn't wonder-bread. It's dense. It's got a chew.   The sourdough is minimally sour, hearty, with a thick, hard crust, and made matrimony with the turkey. A lil bit of salt, the slightest tang, tango-ing into a single texture. Those of us who've had an egg sando in Japan understand how the softness of the egg salad made the softness of the bread fundamental. The turkey here wasn't slipping anywhere, though it complimented the meatiness of the bread. This, sandwich, needs, teeth.    I hope you weren't expecting to eat turkey without teeth. Perhaps that's tofurkey you're thinking about.   The crust was hard too. A well supported, almost crunchy hardness, and a far cry from the st-ale pork rind that the free bread in Mont-real would remind you of. I ended up turning the sandwich sideway as if I was enjoying a taco.   The best panera you'll get and a supreme sleeper.   ------------------------------ The second sandwich: 4/5 The sesame studded hoagie, on the other hand, was nothing short of Guns N' Roses. This sub had a KISS of intensity from the seared meats, a KISS of spice from the mayo and capocollo, a KISS of sharpness from the provolone, and a single leaf of romaine to give that little crunch and freshness, so you can tell your mom that you ate your veggies. There's going to be a rock concert in your mouth. With each element in a bit to prove their existence, it ended up being too intense for us. With these all being strong flavors, it's amazing that you could still taste everything. And they work well together. It's just that your taste buds will send an SOS, walking out of a Black Sabbath concert feeling a bit drained, like Spongebob breaking down after working the tables at Squidward's five star restaurant. The crustiness of the roll, the studded texture of the sesame, the meat escarpment slipping out, you will have no more desire for thee. Water. Something to cleanse the mouth.   If you're one of those among us who gets sweet emotions eating curry without naan or rice, this could be your bad medicine.   * Keep it simple, stupid.

Reviews of each: Blue corn cookie - subtle sweetness, great grainy texture that I really enjoy. Very light almost like the essence of a Madeline cookie. Chocolate croissant - I would pass on this next time, it's very light and it's got good air pockets but chocolate is definitely lacking. It's not as dense compared to some other popular SF bakeries if that's the texture you're looking for. Kouigan amann - my favorite one. Crispy, sweet, with I think a pistachio pastry cream in the middle. Will try coffee next time. Overall prices are pretty competitive and up there but in this economy it's understandable.
