This was my favorite part of my whole trip! The staff on the boat is SO much fun! The breakfast and lunch are average, but definitely could have been worse. Drinks were cheap, but poured a little heavier the longer the trip went. We got the unique experience of being on this boat during the recent missile scare and I commend the crew for staying calm and making sure to communicate with the guests. We saw a whole pod of spinner dolphins, who were swimming along the front of the boat and saw more whales than I could count. I just wish I could give them more stars. I have always been warned that Molokini wasn't what it once was long ago. I don't know how I got wrapped into this cruise, while renting snorkel gear at Frogg's, but I did. First off, I do want to say that the crew was alright. But all the selling of T-shirts, wet suits, videography, photos, etc. just ruined the atmosphere. Then we began our trek to Molokini. Saw some whales along the way. Had to hear how the videographer was getting this all down, "So don't hesitate to buy a 65$ DVD!" Ugh! My Iphone worked just well, thank you. After plunging into the warm water in my wetsuit I paid 10$ for - warned that it would be too cold to stay in 40 min. without it ( why am I so gullible?), I soon saw the worst sites snorkeling in my life! I am still so upset at what I tried to swim in! It was soooooo polluted, murky, and disgusting. I am NOT exaggerating here. I couldn't escape it, even when I tried to dive. Less experienced snorkelers must have thought it was natural. When I saw the dead fish, I knew it was time to get out. We then ate a cold so-so lunch and went to Turtle Town and saw 2 turtles. It was a little bit better. Next time I'll just go to Makena and swim out from the shore. I am hoping that something can be done about the overuse of a natural reserve. I am embarrassed that I was a part of the problem, but no more. read more

We sat through a 2 hour timeshare presentation to pay for our snorkeling trip to Molokini. The Quicksilver is a large vessel which we chose because of the BBQ lunch and the fact that it had shade. The snorkeling at Molokini was amazing and totally worth doing. Turtle town was good, but not what we expected. That being said I had 2 turtles surface right next to me which blew me away. If you choose this trip I have some advice for you--get there early and get in line to get a good seat either on the bow or on the upper deck. The continental breakfast is fruit and muffins, coffee or hot cocoa. The captain and crew are totally professional and really know what they're doing. Very safety oriented. Wet suits are available for $10 which help you stay afloat and not get sunburned. They also have underwater digital cameras to rent for $40 which I wish I had taken advantage of. Although you want to stay in the beautiful clear water watching all the colorful fish, if the food is important to you, get back on the boat before the snacks (veggies and ranch) are gone. Don't dilly dally. The next stop is turtle town. Basically you just paddle around waiting for a turtle to surface. We saw 2 in about an hour. We decided to get back on the boat to get a jump on lunch, but we weren't the only ones who had that idea. Lunch was a choice of pulled pork or chicken breast on a hamburger bun with do it yourself condiments, and macaroni salad. By the time we got up to the food, the macaroni salad was gone. The pulled pork was tasteless and greasy. The crew did not seem to care that they had run short of the Mac salad. They did have some decent chocolate chip cookies. After lunch instead of heading back, the captain takes you south and gives you a tour of where all the celebraties live (who really cares?) and the beaches down douth of Wialea. I think the reasoning for this is to have plenty of time to sell drinks. We didn't get back until 2:00. Considering the fact that you only snorkel about an hour in each location, we felt that the after lunch tour cut into our afternoon as we do not drink. If I were to do this again, and it is worth doing again I would not go on the Quicksilver. They do this everyday and they don't know how much food to buy?? Come on. I'd rather do it on a smaller, cheaper boat and spend more time snorkeling. read more

I called Frogman the night before we wanted to go out to Molokini Crater and was able to get a reservation for two the following morning. The booker, Derek, was very friendly and helpful, although he did push upgraded tours to get me to spend more money. Instead of me having to take down all the information, he just sent me a quick, informative text message. He informed me to go to Frogman in Ma'alaea Harbor by 7:15am. Two spots on the charter totaled about $140. It's about a 45 minute drive from Ka'anapali to Ma'alaea, so be sure to wake up earlier enough to drive down. Parking was easy and we saw lots of people heading down the docks. When we go to the Frogman boat, they informed us that Derek has booked us on wrong boat and that we were actually going with Quicksilver. I looked over and the Quicksilver boat was actually bigger, nicer & newer looking than the Frogman, so no big deal. We had to sign a couple of release forms, then we boarded the boat and were served muffins, pastries, fruit, and refreshments (juice, soda, water, coffee). We headed out on the 30 min ride to Molokini Crater, while the crew introduced themselves, walked around and chit-chatted with everyone. Captain Ben gave instructions on everything to do and not to do (Don't touch the turtles!!) while in the water. We snorkeled for about 1 hour. Then got back on the boat, for a short ride to Turtle Town and got to snorkel there for another hour. Our group only saw one turtle while everyone was in the ocean. Maybe for other groups, they get to see lots but only one came out. Then, some dumb guy swam over to it and poked it, and it ran back into the rocks. Don't touch the turtles!! Once we were back on the boat, we were served lunch, BBQ chicken breast or pulled pork and macaroni salad. The food was pretty bland but I didn't care about the food. It wasn't the reason I was on the boat. Then, we got a tour around the area while Captain Ben told us information about Maui. They also opened the bar with $1 cocktails. For a buck you'd think the drinks would be watery but they weren't. My Mai Tai was super strong. Snorkeling in Molokini Crater and Turtle Town and seeing the absolutely beautiful ocean floor, fish and turtles was an amazing experience of a life time but what made it even better was the super fun and friendly Quicksilver Crew. Captain Ben and crew members such as Ryan and Nicole were so genuinely nice and friendly. It made such a difference in feeling comfortable and relaxed on the boat and in the ocean. Overall, I HIGHLY recommend using Quicksilver Charters. read more

Not impressed at all with this particular company. Check in time is at 6:45am but we didn't leave until 8:40am be the crew didn't have any water for the guests...someone had to run to the store! The first stop at Molokini was spectacular. The water was so clear. Trouble started though when my wife started to get sea sick. The crew was not interested in helping at all. Not one bit. The second stop at 'turtle town' was a total waste. No fish nor turtles. Then the crew started making the food. The smell was atrocious. It was very very soupy BBQ... and the side was cauliflower?? Such a strange combo. They had no soda, just beer and water. I would not recommend just based on the lack of professionalism of the crew. They seemed ill prepared and then didn't really care once the trip actually started late. read more

This tour was very good. All the staff (especially Orla, Seth, and Guy) were extremely helpful. Seth gave us an immense amount of information about Hawaiian history, whales, and other random shit. This guy is very knowledgeable and chill. He even recommended a dope brewery that we didn't know about. The snorkeling was good as well. We got to try two different spots and saw some sea turtles and reef sharks. Lastly, after snorkeling they serve beer and mixed drinks for only two dollars! And you watch them make the drinks so you know they aren't watered down or super sweet like some spots on Maui. Would definitely recommend this snorkeling tour to others. read more

We took the morning cruise. Didn't make it to Molokini at all because of the strong winds - not the crew's fault at all, no other boats made it there that day either. The first snorkel spot at 'Turtle Bay' was poor, hardly any reef nor fish to see, let alone turtles. The boat rocked about so violently while anchored that most people were too green in the face to go into the water at the next two snorkel spots after that. We did see a few turtles at the surface later in the trip. I liked the friendly and helpful crew, and the skipper gave loads of interesting facts about Maui to satisfy the geography geek in me. Word to the wise: DON'T rent their wetsuits. I rented one (for $10) for fear of the cold water at Molokini (which we ended up not going to anyway) and used it for the first snorkel. I doubt they air out their wetsuits, because I acquired a bad fungal infection from that wetsuit. I advise BRING YOUR OWN WETSUIT - they won't tell you that you'll need one when you book the tour, so remember this. Snorkel gear is free, though some were faulty, i.e. mask taking in water, tube slipping off, so you'll want to consider bringing your own too. The ride back can get very, very, very windy, so note two things should you choose to sit at an unsheltered part of the boat. 1) Bring a light jacket and long pants/skirt/sarong to cover your legs as it can get cold even on a sunny day. 2) Eat your lunch before the boat takes off or you'll end up losing most of it to the wind. I got pelted with potato salad and pulled pork from my fellow passenger's lunch...should've just left my mouth open downwind of her plate. read more

Fantastic! The crew wants you to have fun and makes sure they everyone feels safe snorkeling before going into the water. The captain is funny and interesting. He shared facts about Hawaii along with discussing what the whales were doing when we saw them. Lots of fish to see at Molokini and turtle town had a few turtles (we saw 5). Overall, this was worth the money we paid. I read the negative reviews for this day trip and I've come to the conclusion that some one will always be unhappy about something. Allow me address some of those whiners now: Wet suit- yes, they offer you the chance to get a wet suit for $5. Ryan got one, I didn't. We were both happy with our choices. I spent the whole time in the water but I did have goosebumps. Videos/photos- yes, they do mention that they are being sold. At no point did I feel like it was being shoved down my throat to buy them. The food- lunch was great. Pulled pork or chicken sandwiches were really good (especially considering you're on a boat). Breakfast was cut up muffins (from costco) and fruit. Yum! I'm not trying to eat a huge breakfast before I snorkel for two hours. read more

Overpriced! The boat is packed full and on our trip also full of loud kids. The crew was very nice and cooked great food. Cheap drinks too :) Where you snorkle isn't any better than just going to the local beaches and snokling around the shore. We enjoyed this snorkel tour. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Breakfast left a little to be desired but the BBQ lunch was good. We saw lots of pretty tropical fish and beautiful coral at both locations but we only saw 1 turtle, a little disappointing but that wasn't the company's fault. The captain did stop the boat so we could see a humpback whale which was awesome. Staff is very helpful getting your snorkel gear to fit correctly and answered all of our questions. We had a great time snorkeling last week on the Quicksilver. They were so attentive and helped us with our gear and since they say that I was afraid, they kept checking on me while I was in the water. We saw dolphins and the captain was very nice to come back around so everyone could see the dolphins. personally this was a complete waste of time and money. Cannot recommend. Boat was very rocky and rough once it got to the first stop while waiting for crew to set up. Was fine until we stopped to anchor (?) That took a long time to do. Boat rocked a lot. A lot of people got sick and many were hurling on the sides of the ship, including me. you could hear some passenger hurling the entire trip; felt sorry for that person. Didn't think I would get sick since I been snorkeling before on same size boats. Certainly didn't think I would be barfing. First stop ..was about to get into the water but everyone -about 15 people made it in the water and still many in line to go into the water-were all recalled back into the ship. Those people in the water were in it for less than five minutes, some less than two minutes! Recall was bec the waters was too rough. It was a safety-related recall. Other boats were at the first stop and their passengers were still in the water while we were recalled back to the boat. Once everyone was back on the boat it still took longer to move to the second and final stop. Noticed other people on the other boats recalled their passengers after us. They loaded up and were moving th their next stop... we kinda of stayed put for a long while before moving. Go figure. It was nauseatingly slow going. Next stop was okay. Calmer waters but didn't see any sea turtles, saw some fish and coral and that was it. Felt fine once got off the boat into the water. It was less rocky in the water than on the boat! Lunch- Couldn't eat lunch bec once got back into the boat started to feel sick again and hurling again. Boat was again very rocky. Couldn't wait to get back to land. Waste of money. cannot recommend this activity. Crew staff -- nice bunch of kids, I mean young adults. Some too young imo. There was a senior lady who was struggling to get back on the boat at the first stop. she kept trying while the young girl (part of the crew staff) was there to help people to get back into the boat. This young girl didn't noticed or chose to ignore the senior even though the senior was right at this girl's feet by the ladder to get back onto the boat and was really struggling. If she couldn't help she should have called for another crew staff to help. She didn't do that. Another crew staff was not around to point out that help was needed. Finally, finally, FINALLY, another crew staff (a guy) suddenly appeared abd he helped the senior lady. Even he struggled to help the senior back into the boat bec the boat was rocking so much!! Not a good sign. I was do glad to get off the boat! It was just horrible. read more

This trip was amazing!!! The crew were very helpful, efficient and friendly. The bonus of this trip is that aside from taking you to Molokini for snorkeling..you also get to go to Turrtle Town and the captain gives a knowledgeable and indepth educational tour of the coastline. I met a family on the bost who was also from San Diego who are regulat Maui visitors and have been on several snorkeling tours...they told me that this one was the best they had ever been on. Was a nice cruise, the crew was friendly and the musician was good. The boat is a tired snorkeling boat that isn't very friendly for dinner cruises-a narrow folding table placed in front of built-in benches. The food was sub-par and tightly rationed, the server, who is from Beach Bums in Ma'aleae harbor, was rude. When passing out pupus, I asked for one and he snapped "you have to share" the prime rib varied in quality depending on where you were in line. Fortunately, despite getting 2 drinks per guest, our waitress brought us additional drinks without charging us. All in all, not a bad cruise but there are better boats and meals out there. read more

We have a home on Maui but have never been to Molokini and decided it was time. (We don't live on the island year 'round). Boss Frogs (who gets an A plus) recommended Quick Silver. We had a really fine time on the cruise. I loved the boat and the experience. The captain couldn't have been better. He was funny, informative and positive throughout. I really enjoyed his commentary. Anytime I can be on the water I'm happy. We muscled our way to an outside deck and had great views. People were friendly and polite. Guess it was crowded, but I wasn't concerned. 99 percent of the staff was terrific...except one of the young women (with a thong suit revealing too much for this stodgy old woman) was snippy and patronizing. Everyone else was helpful, polite and fun. Major downside: they ran out of food for lunch. After 2 hours of snorkeling this was a HUGE disappointment. We had a couple of pieces of bread with a tablespoon of macaroni. They were apologetic and I understand - lots of the passengers had heaping platefuls that went to waste. We did get seconds on the chocolate chip cookies. The water was crystal clear, not a lot of fish, but still beautiful. Saw turtles at turtle town and a an eagle ray soared by while we were snorkeling. I had an underwater video camera and captured some reasonable footage. We had on our rash guards so weren't concerned about getting sunburned or chilling - and we brought our own snorkel gear. Three stars? I was HUNGRY! And I took off a star for that snippy thong-girl. Amazing crew and staff, pretty sure your trip will be awesome. We, unfortunately, had the Murphys Law trip, not once but twice. Booked the Lanai snorkeling /dolphin all-day trip. No dolphins and no Lanai snorkeling on our first outing. We returned to Lahina @ a mile from our departure pier and snorkeled at the old Mala Pier/an emerging reef wreckage, @200 feet from the remaining pier. It wasn't terrible, although very little to see, poor visibility and the fish were very very deep. After sharing my Kudos for the crew and our disappointment for our trip, we were offered a re-do. We went out two days later, we did see dolphins, but as we approached Lanai, an engine blew and we limped back to guess where the Mala Pier. The staff tried very hard to keep things light, but it was clearly frustrating for them as well. All passengers needed to be unloaded via small skiffs in groups of 4 to shuttle to the Mala Pier for an Uber ride back to our departure pier.(our Uber never arrived) As we departed the Quicksilver's (outstanding) first mate Chris, pulled us aside and said we had definitely earned a refund for our Murphy's Law trip(s). Some day we will get to snorkel in Lanai :-) It's been a week with no word of our refund. We are hopeful they will follow through, we very much want to highly recommend Quicksilver for this trip, their staff as well as their word. PS you won't find a better crew on Maui read more

Recently did a snorkel trip to Lanai on the Quicksilver. The trip was booked because of a mix up with our spa that left us with nothing left to do in the afternoon. We ended up wandering around Lahaina and stopped into Boss Frogs and we were talked into a snorkel trip. It was by far the best thing we did our entire vacation. We arrived early and were the first ones to board. It was SO worth it. Top floor with a front row table/seats. Definitely suggest showing up early for a good seat. What I really liked about seating- u claim your seat and leave your stuff at your table. That way no one (unless they're pretty horrible) can take your seats. Anyway, after getting your seat, you get a hot breakfast. According to Boss Frogs, the Quicksilver is the only snorkel boat that serves hot breakfast. It was basic eggs and patties. Nothing fancy but still good. Getting out of the channel is a little intense. If you get seasick easily, please for everyone's sake, take the Dramamine. It will save you. The boat ride gets chilly with the breeze so bring a jacket or sweater. Once you get there (about 90 minutes later) the crew have a great safety briefing. It was my first time snorkeling so I was VERY nervous and the crew was AMAZING at putting my mind at ease. It's hard for me to judge the snorkel because I have nothing else to compare it to but it was amazing. So breathtaking and a truly wonderful experience. They have everyone grab a pool noodle and it was great. You never got tired and floated perfectly for snorkeling. There's a photographer on the crew and they take pictures of you snorkeling. You can purchase them on the ride back into Lahaina. Also- there's a few crew members as lifeguards in the water. They check in with you every once in a while to make sure everything is good. Once snorkel is over, the ride back to Lahaina starts. It can get pretty choppy too and if you haven't taken the Dramamine yet, it's too late. Unfortunately there were people who got sick right next to us. The crew was amazing about escorting them quickly to the bottom level and back of the boat. The crew even quickly cleaned up the seasick mess without complained. Long story short, book the cruise/snorkel trip/etc on this boat. The crew is amazing and go above and beyond to make sure the clients are happy. I will be recommending this boat to anyone and everyone who asks. Can't wait to go back and do another trip on the Quicksilver. read more

The only two things that earned this place 1 star were the complimentary pulled BBQ pork they served on the ship and a crew member named Kenneth. The pulled pork was surprisingly flavorful and tender, and you could help yourself to as much as you wanted! And Kenneth was really a great dude. Super nice, friendly, and helpful. Other than that, snorkeling was a complete disappointment. Molokini barely had any variety of fish/ocean life. I have no idea why people rave about snorkeling here. And the second location had very low visibility, I couldn't see a darn thing! For these reasons and the fact that I was super sea sick most of the time, deep sea snorkeling was probably one of my least favorite (and most expensive) activities I did in Maui. read more

5+ stars!!!! We booked through our hotel, and am so glad we did. The boat was big and had enough room for everyone. The food was alright- nothing spectacular. There was enough food for everyone though which was nice not having to worry about being hungry. The equipment was good too. The boat was super smooth and I didn't get sea sick which was awesome! The 5+ stars goes to the staff- they were all so unbelievably nice and so accommodating. They waited on us, asked us if we wanted drinks several times, came around and took our trash a lot, and were extremely helpful/friendly! The staff made our trip worth it! Great service! I thought the crew was totally trying to upsell us on wetsuits...but was glad I ended up renting one because the water was pretty chilly out by turtle town. Turtle town was way too crowded, the second people would hear "Turtle" it was every man for himself. I didn't care much for that, but it's not the charters fault. Other than than, I had a great time. The Molokini snorkeling tour on Quicksilver was one of the highlights of my Maui trip. We had a large group of 14 people and the crew was very accommodating to all of our needs. The snorkeling at Molokini and Turtle Town were both so much fun and the crew were very helpful for us snorkel newbies. The Captain also took us off course slightly because he spotted humpback whales and wanted us to get a closer look. Bonus! The lunch was surprisingly good. I had the pulled pork sandwich and potato salad. And the chocolate chip cookies were delicious. Husband and I decided to book this snorkeling cruise and we had a great time! It was first time for the both of us. They provide everything you need. Snorkel, fins but you have to pay extra for wetsuit and they also have under water cameras for rental if you don't have one. Breakfast, snack and lunch is provided. Lunch was actually really good! I had a kalhua pork sandwich and macaroni salad. We saw lots of fishes, a big sea turtle that husband was following for awhile to get on camera. On our way back we also got to see several dolphins that was swimming along side our boat! If you have your own wet suit I would recommend to bring that, and some dramamine if you get motion sickness easily. Several people experienced motion sickness on our trip but my husband was clever enough to make the both of us take some before the boat ride so we felt fine :) PS: the boat crew was awesome!
