It's 9:40PM on a Tuesday and I tried calling at 9:30 to make a pickup order. The phone kept ringing. Apparently it's normal for a restaurant to close whenever they want despite having a posted closing time.

I think the reviewer were I bit harsh on them. This is quick fast Japanese food. It is not a sit down sushi place. My bowl was priced right and freshly made to order. Granted the place was a but on the messy and sticky side. But I could come back for a quick bowl.

Employees on their phones, on the clock.

Not much in terms of atmosphere. More like a kitchen but food is good. Nice that you can get food quickly. More of a take out place

The blueberry mojito was DELICIOUS! The appetizers were pretty tasty too. However, I was not overly impressed with my main meal. I ordered a hibachi combo, the filet mignon and chicken. I was honestly disappointed, the flavors were lacking in my opinion. Service was attentive and portions were decent. Sad to say it, but I do think there are better Hibachi restaurants in the area with comparable pricing.

Spicy Chicken Miso Ramen Dinner as I came at 3 PM which was a little after the dinner hours. It was pretty good. Came with bamboo shoots, seaweed, and boiled egg and the spicy chili sauce on the side. I asked for it on side as I wanted to experience the taste w/o spice and then add it myself if needed. Overall, it was pretty tasty. Nothing outstanding, but maybe my taste buds weren't functioning. It was not bad overall, and was filling as I hadn't a proper breakfast even. I would rate it 7/10. Not bad, and the cost for dine-in was a little over $20, which wasn't bad but not cheap either. For the service, I'll give it a pass. Overall, impressed with this Japanese restaurant and hopefully will be back to try something else on the menu, if I find myself in the One Loudoun area again.

Now this is probably one of those places you go for the experience as opposed to the fine dining. If it's a birthday or perhaps you have some kiddos in your family who might be a bit adventurous as far as eating its worth going. I will say when we were there last weekend, it was really cold inside to the point that I couldn't even take off my coat to dine. Not sure if there was something going on with their HVAC system.

The food was ok - the chicken and shrimp were done well, but our medium steak request came out well done and underseasoned; the same was true for the mushrooms and chicken fried rice (usually delicious). The filet, in particular, was pretty tasteless without the dipping sauce and very tough; definitely wasted the more expensive cut of meat with that preparation. In addition, we felt like we were being rushed out as soon as the grill was turned off - pressed for whether we wanted carry out containers while we were still eating. We also realized on the way out that we weren't offered the ice cream at the end of our meal that came with it. Definitely didn't feel welcomed. (And for some unknown reason the restaurant cancelled my reservation while we were en route, as I saw in my email after we ate). Finally, unlike other locations I've been to, I was surprised that they charged extra for mustard sauce (much preferred to the mayo-based yum yum sauce) and to have the fried rice be spicy. Seems a little nickel and dime when you're already paying $50-60 per meal. We drove out of our way to go here and would not do it again. I think we would have had a much better experience at Texas Roadhouse or the like.

With apps and different style Sushi pieces and elaborate rolls. My favorite app is the crab wontons. Light and crispy. Wasn't a fan of the soup. Noodles dishes: yakisoba or thin noodles pass. Not worth it. Fried Rice : not tasty. The sushi wrapper wasnt a high quality grade. A little too thick and rubbery. A good quality would have been thin and kinda mewlt in yiur mouth. Kind of hard to explain. The Sushi rice could be improved. Not sure what brand they use but if they use a better quality it will definitely make the Sushi taste better. I love yellowfin tuna , however they use a low quality tuna. Also be mindful of what you order they also have a so called *waste fee" if you leave food on your plate. The have the usual Korean Banchan. However they dont have the usual hot bar like Sushi King or other places like Umi. The service was great. Friendly servers and staff that will usher your dirty plates etc.

MY 2 STAR RATING IS NOT ABOUT FOOD TASTE, QUALITY AND FRESHNESS WHICH IS VERY GOOD ON ALL FRONTS at…read morethis location (**for the hibachi teriyaki grilled chicken which is the only entree we ever get here**) The 2 stars is for the ever increasing prices of this place and the continued shrinkflation happening here (and at the other Sarku locations I'm sure). I read my last review of this place over 2 years ago and chuckled. Even back then (just coming out of covid) I was complaining about these same things - price increase and shrinkflation. And to think I thought $22 for 2 teriyaki chicken meals was too much! This weekend I paid $19 for ONE, count 'em ONE, chicken teriyaki meal, granted with double meat. What in the world was I complaining about 2+ years ago, amiright?! lol Then why keep coming here, you ask? Well, sometimes you have to cave in when the teriyaki craving hits you. We come out to the mall eatery when we're in the area running errands. The eatery has surprisingly rebounded and appears to be reconstituting its offerings although the mall itself, post-covid, remains a sad and sorry shell of its former self. #sadface Back to Sarku...No complaints at all about the taste, freshness and quality of the teriyaki chicken. A container full of sizzling, piping hot and fresh grilled meat right from watching it get expertly grilled right before your own eyes - CAN'T GET MORE FRESH THAN THAT. The "chef" working the grill honestly is a pro. We remember him when he first started wayyyyy back in the day (well before covid) - "apprenticing" under the prev "chef". This guy is good - he apprenticed well lol. He's fast, efficient and knows how to crank out multiple orders at once. Frankly, he single-handedly keeps this place running like a top. (Give this guy a raise....or part ownership of the business because he's the one keeping this place alive and kicking.) So, NO COMPLAINTS AT ALL WITH SARKU'S FOOD QUALITY. Our go-to order now is to order 1 ENTREE WITH DOUBLE MEAT. It's definitely a better deal and IT'S ENOUGH FOR 2 PEOPLE TO SHARE - especially if you're not ravenous. Check out my pic and vid of our double meat order. You'll see what I mean. ANOTHER TIP: no matter that we no longer frequent this place much anymore (due to how expensive it's become for "fast food"), we still keep a FREQUENT DINER CARD on hand and use it when we go/order - it's worth getting a free entree for every 6 you order - so if you're not doing that (especially if you do go here regularly or order multiple entrees in a single visit), get a card from the cashier and start getting your entrees stamped and earning a free meal. The cards never expire and are not location specific so even better if you frequent different Sarku locations. As I said, we don't go out of our way to go to this Sarku or any other location because of how pricey it is. Sarku has continued to steadily jack up their prices AND have made their containers smaller and smaller and smaller (so they can make you feel like they've generously stuffed your box full of food - clever! ...not). Their other menu items might be better value but I seriously doubt it and I don't think I would trust sushi made at a fast food carryout joint anyway. So, for all these reasons, we only go when we're in the area of the mall AND have a craving for teriyaki chicken.
