I just had my first hydro / micro current facial with Joanna. You can tell Joanna loves and is very passionate about what she does. She took amazing care of my skin as she did both of these treatments. She talked to me about how to care for my skin monthly and daily. I bought a hdyrafafacial that was advertised as a 50 minute treatment. When I booked my appoointment, I was told to arrive at 11:15 for my 11:30 appointment. Which I did. The woman who would be giving me my treatment came out and apologized, twice, for the delay and thanked me for my patience. I was not taken into the treatment room until 11:50 (mind you I'd been there for 35 minutes at this point and my appointment was at 11:30). When we went into the room, it was obvious she had not changed the bedding on the table I'd be laying on. She removed/replaced the towel used under the previous clients head, but not the sheet on the table, which was wrinkled and clearly used, which I felt was odd. Normally the sheet is replaced or the chair is covered with paper so it can be changed from one patient to the next. She did not start my treatment until 11:55 (25 minutes late). She asked if I had ever had a hydrafacial before, and I said no. She then confirmed I booked the 50 minute treatment, and I said yes.... ...And then she finished at 12:25! I asked where the other 20 minutes of my treatment went! She said she did everything the appointment was to include. I reminded her that I bought a 50 minute treatment and she confirmed that when we got started. She could not answer me when I asked what was happening here. She apologized and said "let me get back to you" when I again asked, "how are we done, 20 minutes prior to the 50 minutes?" She got up and got the owner. The owner said it COULD have taken 50 minutes, IF i "added a booster," which was of course an UPSELL and I declined. I told her this was bad business as I bought a 50 minute treatment - which started 20 minutes late AFTER I was there an additional 15 minutes early, per her policy. She did not offer me any other explanation or refund. She just kept saying that they book it for 50 minutes incase the client add one, which are an additional cost. That is NOT what was advertised. It's as if when I declined to pay for the up-sell, I was rushed through my treatment so they were back on schedule. I'm 100% convinced that's what happened here. Who has a client come in 15 minutes early, keeps them waiting an additional 20 minutes past their appointment time to begin, and then shaves 20 minutes off the treatment?! That is LITERALLY 40% of the treatment time, eliminated! After I waited longer FOR the treatment to begin, because of HER policy, that the entire treatment lasted! Insane. False advertising and terrible business. Will never come and again and do not recommend. This review is STRICTLY for the owner. The woman that did my treatment was apologetic and nice. Linh was wonderful in every way. I got a Groupon for a signature facial and also purchased a $40 add-on. The experience was great from start to finish, the facility was beautiful and relaxing. The results were great even a few days later, which is uncommon with facials in my opinion. Sugaring: This is one of the few places I have found that does sugaring. I've seen Joanna a couple of times now, and I love it! I loved waxing before but I would always get little red bumps and be very irritated, with the sugaring I have no problems. The only thing I would say that for me sugaring is more painful in my bikini area because there is a fair amount of tugging and pulling as she works the wax, but the payoff is no more irritation. Joanna is super friendly and will make you feel at ease. She also does facials and eyelash extensions although I haven't tried those services yet. I've asked for her advice on some blemishes I have, and she is always helpful and knowledgeable. Check-in for a yelp discount, and sometimes there are offers to buy services in bulk at a cheaper rate in cash. If you get on the email list, there are sometimes other offers or events as well. The location was a little hard for me to find at first, but hopefully the pictures help! There is no private restroom, instead the restroom is in the hall that is shared by the whole floor of the building, but it's kept clean so it's ok. read more

One of the reasons I chose Joanna Young Skincare was because she specializes in NovaLash Lash Extensions. In a nutshell, the technique, application and adhesive are premier in the industry, in my opinion. Like most women who start getting extension, I wanted to try it for an upcoming vacation. I didn't have any intention on making a long-term commitment after the initial appointment. It's now been two years since I've been going to Joanna Young Skin. The salon is super cute and cozy. I love that she offers the latest products for purchase. There are many reasons I love coming here. The most important is that Joanna knows her craft. She's constantly learning about the newest technology or upcoming trends. To me that shows she has a true passion for what she does. She also teaches her clients about ways to improve and care for their skin. You can feel how much she cares about her clients. The second reason I love coming here is the ambiance. It's inviting, chic, and warm. But also, Joanna is very soothing and calm. After my long drive (30-40 minutes), sometimes I'm a bit crazed when I walk in. But Joann is so calm and soothing and I'm instantly mellowed out. Even though I started going here only for lashes, I've started to try other services such as sugaring and most recently, HydraFacial (book this immediately-it's a game changer). My skin has never looked so good. Of course there are places closer to me that I could go to, but to me, building a relationship with your esthetician is very important. I'm not interested in going to someone who doesn't take pride in their work or doesn't have the knowledge in what they do. This review is long overdue. I have never been spray tanned before but it was 4th of July and I had important plans made to go out and wanted some color on me. I found this place on group on and called and made an appointment for the following day (July 3rd, a Friday), with Joanna the owner. I didn't buy the group on so she could honor the price in house and get the full amount instead of just 50% (groupon takes the other 50% I always try to do this if I am getting a group on deal. I also mentioned that it would be my first time, she didn't bother to give me any pre care so I went home and read pre care tips for spray tan and made sure to exfoliate my body the night before. Friday morning comes along (day before 4th of July). I am getting my spray tan and mentioning to her it is my first time and if there is anything I should do, she said just don't shower until tonight. Nothing else- didn't explain to me any post care to take care of my tan. She was so unfriendly that I almost felt uncomfortable, she didn't make me feel welcome at all. Side Note: I had laid out in the sun the week before and was dealing with very miniscule left over peeling on my arm like it was literally just a really dry spot. Which she pointed out to me, but never once said it might effect my spray tan. I'm not going to lie, I left with an AMAZING spray tan the color was beautiful I was so happy, paid, tipped, and went to work with a flowy maxi dress (something else I looked up since she lacked to do so, my naïve self probably would have regular work clothes) 4 hours after my appointment I notice EXTREMEEEE blotchy ness. parts of my neck and shoulders were white, it looked like I had vitiligo all over, it looked so scary. So I texted her telling her what happened WITH PICTURES asking if I could come in and she could fix it or spray over it. All she said was "sorry I left work at 1 today" ummm ok? I told her how I have an important event to go to and I cant go looking like this. After a few back and forth text messages she has the AUDACITY to tell me "honey I don't know what you want me to do I didn't make your spray tan peel, your in the industry you should have known what to expect, you knew your were peeling when you made the appointment, try using foundation or bronzer to cover up the blotchiness" Yes, i was slightly peeling, but if she had warned me that this may have happened, I would have said lets not risk it for my big event. and yes, I mentioned to her I work at a medspa but no we don't do spray tans and I didn't know what to expect, and If one of our clients is unhappy we make sure they come back asap so we can take care of it. I literally couldn't believe she told me, a paying client this, which btw I was planning on going back to her for future spray tans before I noticed the blotchiness. I told her if she isn't going to fix it for me then I expected a refund, which she said she would gladly give me. This is my first bad review ever, and even though I did receive a refund for the services, I feel like I need to share what happened to me, on fourth of July while all my friends were in their swimsuits I had to wear a long sleeved tunic to cover myself because I looked so scary. As a business owner, she should have tried her best to make it right, not just issue a refund. read more

SUGARING The sugaring here is pretty awesome. The prices are pretty good too if you buy from Groupon. They honor it if you come back to them, so I'll keep coming back if they keep the prices the same! EYELASH EXTENSIONS They use Novalash, which is a really popular one for eyelash extensions because they are supposed to feel real. However, it's just not for me. My eyes were bloodshot for the first 3 days, probably from an allergic reaction to the glue. I have seen people get them and they look gorgeous, but I just don't think I can handle them because anything that requires this much maintenance and irritation to my eyes is not worth it for me. I wish I got a Groupon to do it the first time rather than pay full price, but oh well. Lesson learned. I do think they are gorgeous about 5 days in though...I just can't handle the discomfort. read more

Bought the groupon deal for a Brazilian sugaring treatment w Shab. Let me start by saying I ended up not taking it all off, left a strip of hair, because I'm very sensitive and started freaking out. First timer here and I have been traumatized by the normal hot wax that I couldn't convince myself to go though with it entirely. Looking back at it I wish I would of stuck it out. Unlike normal waxing, no pain after and the result are well worth it! Shab does an amazing job. She made me feel very comfortable and helped me along the entire process. Not only is my skin extremely sensitive but I have very coarse hair. I actually feel bad for having scheduled this at the very end of her day. I will continue to come back here because it was quick (15 minutes) and she made me feel really comfortable. Overall a great place to come! My only regret is not doing the whole area. Very cute setup. Offer you wine or chocolate or water right when you walk in. I was able to set up my appointment through a text message (great for me since I am always at work and the last thing I want is for someone to over hear that I am setting up an appointment for a Brazilian wax).
