Get these guys! Had a stove that wasn't getting 240. Dennis came from R&A and fixed the problem in the breaker panel in five minutes, tightened all the other connections as well, then he fixed: our ceiling fan; put in a new overhead fixture in the basement; replaced an outside outlet that wasn't working; and replaced a ballest in a fluorescent light... ALL IN AN HOUR AND A HALF! Basically fixed all the electrical problems we' had in almost no time... and explained what and why he was doing what he did... bill was very reasonable!!! My wife and I just bought a house in Alexandria and hired R&A to replace out our deteriorating (and very dangerous) HVAC wire for our rooftop AC unit. We received quotes from a couple other electricians, but R&A's was by far the best. Robert was also able to fit us in quickly which was essential considering we didn't feel comfortable running the AC with the dangerous wire and temperatures were brutal. Robert was very nice and professional and did an amazing job. He went above and beyond and removed an old antenna from our roof at no extra charge. We're in the process of renovating our 2 bedroom, ground floor condo, and have been able to do much of the work ourselves, except for some of the electrical projects. We had another electrician come out and replace our panel/do some rewire work at the beginning, and while the work itself came out fine, I was less than impressed with how the handled clean up/putting things back together (they took the drywall pieces they cut out with them, so we needed to replace from scratch, didn't install outlet face plates back on, etc). Flash forward to now and our latest electrical project, we wanted to install a ceiling fan in our master bedroom, and we decided to try someone new. Found R&A on Yelp and decided to give them a try. Robert responded promptly to my inquiry on their website and was able to get me in within a week. He made sure to ask for details and pictures so that he would be prepared day of. To give you some details, we have solid concrete ceilings, there was no existing fixture or wiring in the ceiling because of this, and the switch on the wall operated an outlet. Robert and his assistant (I missed his name) called when they were on their way and arrived within the half-hour window they'd given me. They got right to work and were finished in about two hours with minimal damage to the drywall/minimal holes. They were even very careful to cut as small a hole as possible in the ceiling trim so that we didn't have to replace anything and the cable raceway/and wiring could disappear once it hit the wall. They also cleaned up everything on the floor, so the room was good as new. Lastly, they made sure to show me their work, test operation, install the right light bulb, etc before they left. R&A was fantastic! They were quick to respond and were great to work with. We had a lot of items on our to-do list that we ran through while getting the on-site quote. I thought it would be too much work or too expensive, but they assured me it would be no problem and I got the quote the same day for a very reasonable price. They came on time and did amazing work. When it took longer than they thought (1.5 days turned into 3, older house problems) they were able to come back immediately to finish and accommodate my schedule. They even have dry wall and paint services so all of the holes were expertly filled in like they were never there. They really knew their stuff and noticed when some wiring had been done incorrectly by the previous owners and they made sure to do it right and fix any mess that had been there. We even threw in a "well, this would be helpful" and they were able to add it to the list. The previous fixture was installed without junction box, no grounding, and with wires running between the stud and dry wall. Jeffrey was both knowledgeable and a craftsman. First of all, I have to give five stars for communication and professionalism alone. I had an odd variety of small projects that an inspector recommended I complete on my new home. Not knowing anything about this type of work, I was looking for a company who could give me a thorough estimate based on the inspection report, which had the scope of work clearly laid out. I contacted a number of companies on Yelp. R&A got back to me almost immediately, and continued to respond promptly no matter when I emailed. Robert prepared a quote for me and it was so reasonable that I did not even continue to entertain any more estimates. Other "ballparks" eventually came back, but NO one reviewed the inspection report and wrote out a professional, itemized list except Robert. The other quotes were also much higher. Robert was able to schedule the work just a few days out. The day of, Robert and his assistant did a great job, and even were able to install an additional outlet on the spot. He was true to the estimate, even though I think they spent more time on everything than they had intended to, and charged very little for the additional work. I received an email invoice almost immediately. I will definitely be using R&A in the future - they know how to run a small business! read more

Excellent, customer-friendly service! I was immediately impressed by how friendly and considerate Robert was. My appointment had a 2-hour window, but Robert called to let me know he was on the way about 30 minutes before he and his assistant actually arrived, which was just about the mid-point of the window he had given me. They both slipped on plastic booties before entering my home and were careful to protect floors and walls. Robert quickly diagnosed the problem, which was a burned out light bulb socket for a pendant light in my stairwell. He replaced the defective socket and cord and everything was AOK in just minutes. It turned out that I had misread the price for the job that Robertr had quoted me by e-mail two days earlier, but when I explained my mistake, Robert unselfishly agreed to discount the price. I had called around was given quote to add a new outlet above our microwave inside of our cabinets, and run it down to the circuit breakers, and fix another breaker. I was told between 9-11 on Wed. at 9:10 Robert called and said he was 10 minutes away. Already a score. The job took 2.5 hours, including part and labor, he was still over $200 cheaper than other quotes. They were prompt, professional and very nice to deal with. My husband and I purchased a home that was built in the 50s, probably hadn't a licensed electrician in it since the 70s, and had numerous instances of amateur electrical work all over. Rob and his apprentice Richard came out and set. it. right. They went all over the house and fixed scores of problems ranging from minor annoyances such as a pair of switches that weren't oriented on the side of the light they controlled to serious safety hazards like improper grounding, electrocution risk in the dining room light fixture, and missing GFIs. They also replaced the rusted out old breaker box and repositioned it so that it complied with current electrical code. Rob was great about explaining what they were doing, and both Rob and Richard were super friendly and considerate. Two weeks out, I am still so happy with their work. Before they came, we were really leery about every use of electricity (correctly so, as it turned out!), but now we are really confident in the safety of our home, which feels great! I needed some cable installed in my home, so I called for an estimate. The crew arrived the next day thinking they were actually going to do the work. I explained that I just needed an estimate. No problem - the crew chief assessed the situation and gave me a price that was substantially lower than the other bids I had received. Unlike the other bids, his solution would not require cutting holes in the walls and ceilings - and could be done in a couple of hours. I asked him since they thought they were going to do the work today, could they do it now? Yes. I had four electricians provide quotes for a heating cable installation in my bathroom. Robert easily provided the most thorough inspection/estimate of my 80+ year old house, and completed the work at that (very fair) price. Some of the other electricians didn't even open the box! He was easy to schedule, even on a Saturday, including working around parts of the project my husband and I did/were doing. There was a bit of a timing mis-communication that would have been a lot less frustrating to me had he kept us better informed of when he would be arriving, but I won't ding a star because it didn't really affect our completion of the project.
