Scheduling maintenance isn't always easy since most of our tenants work Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. They can usually only leave work a few hours early on Fridays and often aren't home until after 1:00 p.m. Even though the normal afternoon appointment window is 12:00-4:00 p.m., Vincent went out of his way to accommodate our scheduling needs and worked with us to make everything as convenient as possible for our tenants. That level of flexibility and customer service makes a huge difference when managing multiple properties. We truly appreciate Vincent's professionalism, responsiveness, and willingness to help. Called at 0900 and the technician was at my house by 1200 same day. Technician diagnosed the issue, repaired it and was gone by 1300. Given the fact that we are in the middle of a heat wave, I fully expected a response in a day or two. Would recommend Joh Nugent & Sons to anyone who will listen and needs their services. read more

These guys have earned my loyalty! They installed a new A/C system 2 years and one month ago - just out of labor warranty. It just got a coolant leak. That diagnostic did cost $95. They needed to come back the next day to find the exact spot of the leak and fix it. This could have cost $500-$1500 dollars. The technician discovered on further inspection that this was an issue caused by installation. Even though it was a month out of labor warrant, they charged us $0 since it was a fix caused by installation. They could have not disclosed this and did the work and charged us. Hiring this company to re-do our residential outlets and add outlets in the basement was a very bad mistake. Small little jobs they are OK. Anything that needs more than that-- they did a terrible job!!! Today I realized they should have installed a GFI outlet so that I could install a corded garbage disposal. They did not (in fact ALL of their GFI outlets had to be looked at twice, and it took them three or four attempts to get our dual switches properly configured.) I did not whis review, I ant to write this review, really, really wanted to give them every benefit of the doubt, but they even argued with the drywall people and refused to do some of the work downstairs. I still have a "naked" outlet in the basement hallway I guess they just did not feel like they had to finish. Pitiful quality control, poor oversight of work. Managers are only bean counters. Supervising electricians need supervision themselves. I think all these guys have ADHD and just don't pay attention at the end of the job - because they never scheduled for delays. There was also an issue with the Code Inspections, and this was one of the main reasons we hired John Nugent and Sons. Original estimator/electrician did not want to estimate the job with new code standard built in -- even though he knew the new code requirements would be legally required at the time of insection. He counted on insector giving them a pass on it. Don't use these guys for any remodeling work. They are OK with "discrete" limited jobs that might go to a day or so. Did good with outdoor lights. Don't use them for complicated jobs. At least they speak English and were always polite to us. One guy might clean up but the others won't unless reminded/you complain about it. Always seem rushed. (I expected more from these people.) read more

Just had Kenny S. at the house to do the annual inspection of my HVAC units. Kenny texted me 20 minutes before he arrived which I appreciated. While he was here, he was careful, considerate and very thorough with his inspection. He wore booties when inside the house, he was careful to keep the exterior door closed (I have pets), and he asked me where to dispose the dirty filters. He even had the filters wrapped in plastic so the dirt was contained. At the end, he gave me a detailed report and made sure I understood his recommendations. Kenny is a 10/10 and the value he provided was excellent. read more

Inexcusably ABYSMAL non-existent customer service. No one who answers the phone is able to provide any basic information and offer only dismissive, rude, robotic non-sensical responses. Technicians are still pretty good, but there is no communication - even minimal! between Nugent staff with customers and technicians get caught in the middle. Managers are as bad as their staff --- useless and dismissive. As last resort, spoke with owner, he seemed fairly responsive, but sadly nothing has changed. Definitely will NEVER engage with Nugent again after 20+years of service at several properties. Excessive frustration and time-Investment for something that should be much easier and that I'm paying a lot of money for. read more

After 20 years of being a loyal customer, I'm moving on. John Nugent & Sons has changed. A year ago, they sold me on a $600 annual maintenance plan. I had to pay in advance and then had to call to schedule them in both spring and fall. No proactive approach: just take the money and run. When they came to do the 'maintenance,' they were in and out in a matter of minutes. Despite the annual maintenance plan, my units still experienced the same regular issues (e.g. condenser capacitor, ignitor failure, etc.). Most recently, my furnace went out. The service technician proceeded to tell my wife that it was likely a bad 'safety switch' and proceeded to give us two estimates: Option 1. A $1600 estimate to replace the pressure switch, inducer motor, and ignitor, or Option 2. A $8,000 estimate for a new furnace. Calling it a safety switch was my first hint that something was off. It's a furnace. Literally everything in it is designed for safety. You can call it a safety inducer motor, a safety ignitor, a safety flame sensor, etc. Calling it a safety switch is intended to invoke fear and a desire to 'make it safe'. After taking a look at the unit, I decided to see if i could replace the pressure switch and fan inducer myself; which I did. It still did not resolve the problem, so I called them back. When the technician arrived, it was the same guy as before, only this time, he's dealing with me instead of my wife. I was incredibly nice but he's got a bad attitude and will barely even speak with me. I assume he's pissed that I have done some of my own work. He goes out on the porch to call his boss. I can only assume he's complaining that I worked on the unit. He then comes back inside and proceeds to take the unit apart, tells me his boss will call me, and then leaves... leaving the unit in pieces. About an hour later, a supervisor calls me and tells me that they're going to need to order more parts to replace the things I've already replaced, but that they don't want to work with me if I'm going to do my own work. I kindly advise that I'd like them to do whatever is needed and that I'll await the estimate. And then,... nothing. Like a ghost, they're gone. In case you're wondering how this all turned out, I was able to call another vendor referred by a friend. They came out the same day and after reassembling the unit, they found leaves in the fresh air intake pipe. An easy fix; and one that didn't require ANY new parts at all. This should have been easily addressed by any competent HVAC technician. To the owners and operators of Nugent & Sons -- I'm a fiercely loyal customer for brands that do right by me. For 20 years, you answered my call, and then something changed. Your technicians used to be helpful and friendly, but now they seem motivated by how quickly they can get out the door and whether they can upsell me in the time they're in my home. This customer is gone for good but do I hope you turn this around because a long family legacy is at stake. read more

When I called earlier this week to provide additional information to the technician coming, I was connected to "Suzie, the AI customer service representative." But it's their new private-equity-owned pricing that's the absolute last straw. According to ChatGPT, Goldman suck-the-life-out-of-you Saks is the money behind the buyout. read more

I found this company online and after reading comments hired them for some major work in my "new-old" home. Jonathan their electrician installed and updated the 3 electrical panels. I really valued his expertise and guidance as this home was built by the original owner in '59 and he did some weird stuff. I feel like I can now sleep in a safe house because he brought it up to 2026 standards. I've had him back for rewiring of an outdoor shed that had no power. He and Ronnie got it all up and running. RL and his crew installed my new Navian boiler/hot water combo. The original boiler was still going but barely. This new system is state of the art and all of their plumbing work is museum worthy. They never cut corners and stayed until work was complete. This was a major job because all new wiring and venting systems had to be added. They saved me money by pointing out my air conditioner was good and should last at least another 5 -10 years and didn't need replaced at this time. I signed up for their regular yearly service check-up's. I couldn't be happier I contacted this company, I feel like this home will take me through the next 50+ years with few issues. read more

Kenneth was the technician and he was great to work with--super courteous, easy to talk to, and actually took the time to explain what was going on with my HVAC system in a way that made sense. A shout out to Nugent tech Anthony who came to my house for a plumbing service on my kitchen faucet and resolved the problem professionally and timely. I appreciated that Anthony called to let me know when he would be there, came within the specified time window, fixed the problem, and was courteous and efficient. The past few Nugent techs who have been to service various heating and plumbing issues in our home have been really great, and Anthony stepped right up. But while I'm on here, I wanted to say that I share some of the insights in other reviews here on Yelp for Nugent, particularly the one where things have changed since 20 years ago re: zero proactive approach to scheduling fall and spring maintenance visits. PLEASE Nugent, don't do AI scheduling. PLEASE keep your approach to customer service in tact with a personal touch and calls to your members for maintenance reminders. John Nugent gave me a reasonable price to install my new HVAC about 10 years ago. The system has worked great since then. I have an annual service agreement with them and they inspect by unit twice a year. The technicians are always friendly and thorough. They always ask if we have any questions before they leave. They gave the best estimate for the work, installed a top-of-the-line unit, and did a highly professional job installing the unit. Tom is an exceptional plumber who takes pride in his work. Time for an updated review. I've used Nugent and sons a few more times over the past couple of years both for plumbing issues and electrical stuff. All of my experiences with the technicians have been excellent. The plumber that came to install/fix what another "supposed" plumber/contractor we had asked to install a faucet and failed miserably at, and my husband couldn't quite fix the issue either the plumber explained what I needed to order and I made arrangements for him to come back after the part I needed arrived and he was able to get the issue taken care of in quick order. Another issue fairly recently was a loud noise coming from the pipes leading to my washing machine, again the plumber diagnosed the issue and did advise that my water heater was nearing the end of its lifespan but again I was glad he was able to diagnose the issue and let me know what I needed to do/prepare for. Electrical wise, they've installed light switches that for whatever reason we couldn't find the breaker to and trust me aside from cutting power to the whole house we tried everything else, but they were able to get these tasks taken care of in short order! The great thing I do appreciate about them is that I'm usually at home when they come and do the service call and they are always just 100% honest and above board they don't pressure you into buying stuff you don't need and they will offer tips on care/maintenance too which has been super helpful as frankly these tasks are not in my area of expertise in the least. They are responsive and while thankfully nothing has been an emergency I'm glad that I can usually get someone out to do the service call in a relatively short amount of time. read more

Our natural gas furnace quit during the peak of the Jan 26 snow, sleet and ice storm. We immediately called John Nugent and Sons. The firm quickly responded, identified the problem as a small leaf segment that was ingested into the fresh air feed and shut down the burners. Technicians Youness and Chung were exceptionally courteous, very well qualified, called prior to arrival, wore shoe booties while in the home, and quickly returned our furnace to 100% operating efficiency and 72 degrees F. We have been with John Nugent for many years and you will not go wrong by requesting their services. I do not recommend this company. I had two air vents and a return installed in my basement. It's been a nightmare dealing with Nugent and Sons. First, they removed my bypass humidifier without my consent. That issue was resolved, but it was a sign of things to come. The install of the vents and return in my basement has not improved the air flow in the basement. After numerous attempts to get a Nugent and Sons employee to address the issue, they finally (two months after install) came over to my house and agreed the airflow in the basement was not adequate. I relied on their advice to get the air vents rather than a mini split in the basement. They finally offered to provide a discount on a mini split, but I cannot rely on this company to install anything else for me. There is no way I would be comfortable with them installing a mini split in my basement. I can't believe this company made the Best Picks Report magazine for best contractors in the DMV. They are also very poor about returning emails and phone calls. I highly recommend you do not contact this company for any repair or install work. read more

Yesterday I had my hot water heater replaced by John Nugent and Son's. The technician was punctual, calling 30 minutes out, professional, and left everything 100% the way he found it. Our service closet is truly a small closet with our furnace crammed in with the HWH, yet this magician managed to offer us a better size fit that is code acceptable with the same results as our old one. We could not be happier. I've been working with J Nugent for a few years now - my personal home as well as a rental property. These guys are the real deal. The total job yesterday was nearly $1500 less than a quote for the same job from the "guy on the back of the truck". Last week I had Nick out to do some furnace work - Another example of quality and professionalism. Not to jinx anyone, but if you are in need - give these guys a try. Today I called them about plumbing, specifically a recently discovered brake/leak between the laundry room and bathroom. Great service and smart, efficient techs. Had a problem with our whole house humidifier that 3 other techs including the guy that installed it looked at but couldn't figure out. Called Nugent & Sons and the guy figured it out in less than 15 minutes (a wiring issue) and fixed it for less than $150. Today, the Thursday before Memorial Day weekend with temperatures in the 80's, two of our AC units are not working right, one stopped working completely and the other can't cool when the temp gets over 90F. Called at 8:15am, the tech was at my house at 1:30pm, and in less than an hour fixed both problems, he had all of the parts that he needed in his truck, the cost was completely reasonable. No attempt to upsell or sell me a service contract or any other nonsense. So great to find an honest and capable HVAC company I'll definitely call them for any other issue in the future. read more

Should you decide to do business....rather try to do....business with John Nugent ( JNS ), make sure you get a complete list of key contacts of supervisors, managers, chief operation officer, and VP of customer service. Then verify them by calling. With emails and phone numbers . DO NOT accept the main phone number as point of contact. Otherwise you will never speak to anyone other than call center agent. Do NOT sign any contract or put down any deposit unless you get direct point of contacts. DO NOT accept the main phone number (703) 356-7499. Your concerns will only be blocked and dumped into a blackhole. - DO NOT sign anything unless you receive a clear document detailing JNS escalation process, customer complaints, and management contacts. Staple these contacts to your contract for when things go sideways on your repairs and projects. - DO NOT sign anything unless you have a binding start and finish date. DO NOT. I am going on 10 week ( 2 1/2 months ) with my plumbing leak and 5 weeks on HVAC replacement. More on story below. - DO NOT agree to a 50% deposit on any big project like my HVAC system. I am going on 7 days now waiting for my deposit check back. F.H. Furr and others only require 10-30% at best. DO NOT put down 50%. - DO NOT deal with Hiba Noori. Unfortunately the JNS call center agents act as gatekeepers and will not share or pass message to anyone accountable. The only contact the call agent gave me is Hiba who is just a project manager for HVAC. I have a feeling someone is trying to hide what's going on with my case from rest of management and owners. - Read other recent poor reviews like Nancy Berry. Sounds similar to my situation. Unfortunately I waited too long to resolve my HVAC installation. I guess I will be starting legal proceedings next. MY STORY: As with Nancy Barry's recent poor experience and many others, I engaged JNS and then everything went sideways since. 10 weeks later they keep jerking me around with some excuse that they are trying to get me a shower fixture cartridge. "Oh the supplier sent us the incorrect part. Oh, the part is discontinued. Oh the part is now available. Oh we're still waiting on part. " It took me only one day to get the cartridge on Amazon. Shame on you JNS for lying to me ( tech Zam ). Only tech would take my calls. Not a single call from a manger, supervisor, or customer service. Shame on you. The VA Attorney General would love to hear about your small business practices. I engaged JNS on good faith to take a look at my 14 years old Carrier on June 24, 2024 and cut a check for 50% of a $18,450 project. Five weeks later, going on 6 , I have had zero status on my new HVAC system install. JNS was quick to cash my check. But apparently holding onto my money. Zero status or communication from JNS. Not even an apology from a VP of operations, customer service, or owner. Treated with total disrespect. So much for JNS website garbage about we care. In short I WOULD NOT do business with JNS. I think they are either going out of business or soon to be acquired. Based on my experience and observation,, I think they are well on their way to going out of business. Extremely reckless and carless organization. I regret ever having done business with them over years. Heads up to others who live in Great Falls, VA and McLean. They called back, 2 days later, saying they were in the area, and said they would like to take a look at my problem. If they would fix it, the charge will be what they quoted. If they could not fix it, there would be no charge. They fixed my problem. I paid them what they said. Very mixed experience with Nugent & Sons. On one hand, they've done good quality work for me for about 5 years. On the other hand, when it was probably time for new HVAC... - the Tech inspecting my system quickly went from telling me that business was slow to using sales tactics to get me to rush into a quick decision. MAJOR RED FLAG! I despise this crap. - the Tech provided information about HVAC systems that was factually incorrect. A second RED FLAG! Also infuriating. - I delayed and had an appointment with a salesperson, RJ. It was actually a great conversation! But despite several attempts, RJ never got back to me with the prices I requested. Third RED FLAG! Thanks for wasting my time! - They contacted me 3 times through their reputation management company to ask for reviews. This a system that companies use to game review sites and search engine rankings. While Nugents & Sons has a lot of company in this regard, it still stinks. In a pinch, I would gladly use Nugent & Sons again rather than someone like Parrish Services. But I'm not going to do business with Nugent & Sons anymore. read more

My apartment AC has broken down more times than I can count, and every time someone comes out to "fix it," there's a new issue. It has been almost a year, and they come every few months because the AC and airflow are not working for some unknown reason. A worker comes out and either tells me he doesn't know what's wrong and that someone else has to look at it, or that they need a new part that doesn't come until almost two weeks later. At first, it was a leak, then a wiring issue, and now a faulty part they installed in the first place. I truly have never been more frustrated and annoyed that they have to keep coming back every few months to fix something that was their fault in the first place. The workers are polite, but there is no excuse for how terrible this situation has been, and it is now summer, so my apartment is 80 degrees with the windows open. Honestly, don't waste your time or money on this company. read more

I have had good success with this company doing seasonal inspections of my furnace, at least until recently. For example, I recently complained about how a furnace inspection was performed and they did not call me back. There have been other times when they do not follow through on promises to get back to you. This could be a clerical/receptionist issue but it is still a poor reflection on the company. I am going elsewhere for seasonal inspections. read more

I had an issue where my furnace was intermittently shutting off the heat - it was a really strange issue where it would work sometimes and heat would emanate and then sometimes it wouldn't, even if the thermostat was freezing cold. The technician, Jason, came and surmised after analyzing the furnace that there weren't issues with the furnace itself. He believed there were condensation issues and worked on the condensation pipe, cutting it to facilitate proper clearing. Unfortunately, after he left, the issue continued. I called John Nugent and they sent him back. We were stumped. He and I had a conversation and we followed the pipe through my house to the outside - then he figured out what the issue was! It was a little tricky to diagnose, but Jason was very patient and took the time to try to explain his thinking on the problem as our thinking evolved on the issue. I had a really good experience with John Nugent, and would have them back again as a result. read more

I am very pleased with response and service by Nugent and Sons. They replaced an 18 year old Air Handler which was in a tight closet - and also replaced a rusting hot water heater. They created the proposal quickly and the prices were very fair. The work took most of a day and I was very impressed by the Nugent staff - they were very pleasant and professional. The installation quality reflects their attention to detail. I will certainly call them again. read more

Do not use this company. It took over 1.5 months to get them to our site for an HVAC seasonal check. The work was not finished as they said they would be back and schedule another time to come and finish the work to install a better P-trap to be able to clean it out easily. However, they did not schedule a come back, I called and had to schedule the come back and they put me on the schedule for another month out and this should have taken priority as they said it needed a better cleanout and I wanted that too and I needed the pipes cleaned and checked the first time that they were on site. Well 4 days before they were scheduled to come out the pipe that was to be fixed clogged and backed up causing water damage to desks, to the ceiling, and walls, and flooring due to their lack of priority. The value they provide is lacking in judgement when it comes to urgency to come back and repair the items needed in the timely manner. When they called they said "sorry, we don't warranty leaks" and their customer service was abysmal. They took no responsibility for their lack of urgency and taking 1.5 months to come to site, then not to fix what was needed to be fixed, then 1 more month to come back to site to fix the drain pipe that needed to be fixed and then the drain pipe clogs during this time and they take NO responsibility for this!
