After waiting the five-year wait to get a new leg. I finally went and got a new leg. I explained everything to the new dr. My existing leg could never be worn without packing gauze in my open wound and wrapping the gauze all around my leg. The pressure sores were treated in the same manner. When the prosthetic leg was measured I was told it was 2" longer than my real leg so this prevented me to walk. When my new was made it weighed 3lbs. Old leg weighed 16lbs. 2 " reduction was taken into account and both areas of pressure sores were addressed and it never happened again the eruption of painful sores. So after 5 years new leg a fraction of the size, no sores, 2" shorter now even with my real leg. I could fly! Going to a totally different dr made all the difference in the world. Regarding the rebuttal on my original post by their front office I must say it was incorrect. I never failed an appt as you stated I did. I DID CHANGE my appt with plenty of notice since this was during Covid, and I had Covid. I worked in the field of dentistry for 52 years so protocol on changing appointments was something I had many many years of experience. I CHANGED THEM NOT NO SHOWED THEM. I hope Login sticks to the administration part vs actual 1 on 1 patient time since he can't seem to tell the truth. read more

My wife was referred to this business by her orthopedic doctor for a knee brace and was told they would contact her. After several weeks and no word from them, she called and was told by a very distracted receptionist that she had seen her "paperwork" and would call her back. Again, no word. After 3 months, she was contacted and went in for measurements. It's been six months and she has never heard back. Based on this horrendous customer service, my recommendation is to stay as far away from this business as possible. They obviously have no clue on how to run a business or treat customers. read more

I emailed this clinic three times this month (two different addresses) over several weeks. I was seeking the specifications and details about orthotics that I received in 2022 designed by an orthotist no longer working there as they are the only orthotics that help and I wanted to have this information to give to future podiatrists. I also inquired about the price for a replacement pair. I finally called and left a voicemail on 7/29 which was returned later that day around 3pm by a woman I presume to be the receptionist. In the conversation I explained the same details as mentioned in the email. I was then put on hold for an unreasonable amount of time and when taken off of hold, she answered "hello" in a context suggesting that she was no longer expecting me to be on the line. The conversation commenced and I was given the price for a replacement pair of orthotics. I then asked if there was a better email address I could forward my original message to so that they could reply to the specific details. She then said that she was going to contact the department that handles emails and have them send her my original email and ensured me she would "call right back." The hours passed and there was no return call. Anyway, I am not surprised by the other negative reviews. Using poor customer service and negligence is clearly the strategy when there is no desire to get back to one. read more

UNINFORMED AND DISAPPOINTED!! My yearly visit for prescriped socks left me very disappointed. I walked in @ 11:40 am. Mind u I've been going there for over 13 yrs for the same thing. First I was told that they were not covered through my insurance. Second I was told that I had to make an appt and come back to get them. The manager was leaving and going to lunch. He never came to speck w me directly only through the employee. After all this I was told they didn't take walk-ins. The lunchtime was posted 12-1pm. When I left I looked to see that they had no signage stating this information. I understand that policies have changed but they need to post and inform the customers of this policy. Thus I wasted my time!! I don't recommend them!! read more

I was in terrible pain. They refused to call Dr's office for information, and required that I call dr's office to get them the info. Their cash price is probably 3x the insurance price and they wouldn't see me without getting all this info upfront and wouldn't lift a finger to contact the doctor. They are supposed to help people and all they care about is doing no work and making a patient in pain do it for them. It's everything wrong with health care in america. read more

Why didn't the person making my appointment tell me this after asking what my insurance was? "I don't know." Can't say enough good things about this local family-owned business. My ability to walk comfortably deteriorated considerably after breaking my foot in a fall. Over time, I developed 'drop-foot' which made me fearful of falling. Walking the dog was a chore and trying to carry anything heavy would throw me off balance. Fortunately, my primary care physician sent me to R&J. I can't say enough good things about Joe who analyzed my situation. He made a 'mold' of my leg and foot from which they built an AFO. This device has given me the ability to walk without fear. My balance has improved dramatically and I can walk further without discomfort. Joe is one of the most caring individuals I have ever met in the 'medical' field. He takes his time with you and explains what's going on with 'your condition/situation'. Thank you, Joe. read more

I have been forced to work with this company for several years now, after several double billings, having no record of an appointment, or not being truthful about when an item would be ready, losing a patients file twice, I thought things had recently improved. Sadly I again find out that we are back to the old behavior, being put on hold several times while on a single call, being told an item would be in and missing that date again and again, the technical people in the back are hard working and want to (it seems) do a good job, the front people, the support staff need to be fired if this business is going to make it, over and over again they lie to me and expect this behavior to be the new normal, it is not. read more

Two stars or less note. I truly don't like downgrading a business, especially those small and independent. They are the backbone of our economy. They typically don't have an easy time to survive, let alone thrive. I am not saying the people that work here are dishonest or incompetent. I may be the exception to otherwise good service and results. I hope that is the case. Management and/or ownership may change between now and when you read this. If not, they may improve. Don't write this business off as a result of my criticism, but take it into your overall consideration. My experience: As a result of a bike accident December 3, 2011, I was fitted with a couple of braces supplied by R&J Prosthetic in Ventura. January 20, 2012 R&J bills Blue Cross (Medigap) insurance for $3,026.41 for both braces. I receive a statement from Anthem toward the end of February 2012, that it is my responsibly to pay $615.90 and not my responsibility to pay $2410.51. Early April 2012, I receive a bill for $615.90 from R&J which I pay in full with a credit card and is posted on 4-7-2012. Approximately 9-9-2012 I receive a copy of another bill from R&J to Anthem for $3026.41 which says it's not my responsibility to pay that amount. Curious as to why a second identical bill was sent several months later, I called Haylea at Anthem on 9-9-2012 for an explanation. She didn't know why, but said she would notify Medicare. A month of so later I received a notice from CMS (Medicare Summary Notice) indicating that R&J had been requested to repay Medicare $1903.58 against it's claim of $3026.41. Flag that. Then, approximately 1-3-2013 I received a bill from R&J for services on 1-20-2012 of $356.85, including $5.27 late interest. The bill stated I had only paid $182.93 on 4-7-2012. I wrote R&J that I had paid the full amount due of $615.90 on 4-7-2012 and included documentation from the credit card company. Then, on 2-7-2013, I received a final notice that I owed $356.85 and that collection action would be taken in 10 days. So, today 2-7-2013, I called Medicare to notify them that I was getting bills which I had already paid. Representative One took down my information and handed me to Representative Two, a fraud investigator (I think). To my astonishment, she said another claim, February 2013 from R&J was being negotiated for this bill. She also starts talking about my previous insurance (Anthem) and my new insurance company (Colonial Penn) being involved. She says I should call R an J. I am near speechless, but ask to speak to her supervisor, Representative 3. This person is somewhat more intelligible, but does confirm negotiations are ongoing, a year after service, and many months after I paid my one and only bill from R &J, until January 2013. I ask about the second bill to Medicare, September 2012, and she says, don't worry, Medicare wouldn't pay twice. I wondered why then, R&J was asked to repay almost $2000 after I notified them. Representative 3, without explaining why negotiations were still going on over a year after service for a couple braces (that appeared vastly over priced), cuts to the chase, and said she would contact the contractor and R&J about these late bills. After over an hour on the phone with Medicare trying to unravel this mess, I wonder what we're in for with Obama-care. When I was growing up in the 1940's and 50's Dr. Garrett made affordable house calls and we directly paid our bills to him or though a single private insurance company. It appears to me, complications not involving health care, but bureaucracy, are going to drive HC prices through the roof. UPDATE 2-12-2013 Michelle from R and J called and said she verified my information and would clear it up with the bookkeeper. She said she had no idea how this happened. Neither do I. However, because Michelle responded to my letter and was polite. I will upgrade to two from one star, solely because of poor bookkeeping. The rest of the operation was acceptable to me. read more

Visited R & J in August 2013 for a pair of custom foot orthotics for my bad case of plantar fasiatis I developed. I called to make an apt and was able to get in fairly quickly. I was happy to see it was a small family business. I believe in supporting local families and when I asked the front office they said they have been in the community over 40 years. So, I was casted for custom supports by a technician named Joe. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. He took his time with me and taught me a lot about my condition that I hadn't known before as this was my first experience with it. He also took me outside and showed me some stretches I could do to help alleviate daily pain. I left and returned about a week later to receive my supports. They took a bit of getting use to but eventually I got use to them. A few weeks pasted and I called to ask if there was anyway they could soften up the firm supports as my heel bones were very sensitive. They gave me an appointment for that afternoon and for no extra charge they added a soft layer of material to the top. Wow! What a difference. Now I can say, 4 months later, my foot pain is almost completely gone! Very thankful for all they did for me. I won't go anywhere without my new supports. I had no trouble with my Co-pay and them billing my PPO insurance. (That's why I love PPOs!) I would recommend these guys if you are need of some help. I had nothing but a very good experience and would go back again if I needed something in the future. read more
