We turned around and left because they only take cash. We like a good dive bar but who carries cash anymore??

We made a stop here on a recent visit to Bedford Springs while we were staying at the Omni resort…read more We mostly stayed on property but wanted to explore town on our last day. As soon as I saw this place, it seemed like the perfect mix of everything we love. Several of the businesses in downtown Bedford are closed on Sunday so I was thrilled to see this spot stayed open late, especially for a small town. I came here with my partner and two kids. They were super kid friendly and were so kind to us during our stay. My partner and I got wine, and loved there was a happy hour special which I didn't even realize when ordering. The owner was very friendly and let us try several wines before committing, which I always appreciate. We lived in California for over 15 years, recently making our way back to the east coast. I could tell the selection was really thought through. And was excited to see that they carried a bottle from one of my favorite vineyards in the much overlooked Paso Robles wine region of southern California. The space is very comfy inside with plenty of seating options including plush chairs and couches as well as traditional table seating. We grabbed a spot on the couch and had the best time playing the many games they offer to visitors. My kids were hungry and devoured the cheese and charcuterie plate. They also were very amused by putting together a giant puzzle as well as getting a tour of the on-site art studio where an artist was working during our visit. This was truly a highlight of our time in Bedford. We hope that we can get back again soon to experience it again.

It's been an adventure watching downtown Bedford grow as a culinary community. Once upon a time, not even all that long ago, the idea of finding a great bottle of wine from a well curated selection would have been unheard of. Yet, that is what awaits at Composition. Even better... every bottle that is on the shelf is available to taste! The secret is their wine tap set up, which can pull samples from bottles and replace the volume with inert gas. Which also means Composition has a killer wine-by-the-glass program. Bravo! I was able to pick up a bottle of Seghesio Zinfandel. Just know that the selection isn't huge. But there will be folks who can help you find something you love. It's not a place to go in looking for something specific, but rather to go in with some ideas and be open to the possibilities. Next time, I would love to stay for a glass in their cozy and homey tasting room, and try some of the cheeses and meats they have on offer. They have imported comte, and will happily send you off with a quarter pound of sliced bresaola... in Bedford! What I love is that Bedford is no longer a one horse town with the Italian import store across the street. It's marvelous to see more options for folks to expand their culinary horizons. Outside of Bedford, Composition may be closer to a 4* wine bar, but they are getting a bonus point for bravely opening in a place that isn't exactly a wine town, and bringing some big love to the block.

There's plenty of space to spread out, whether you're relaxing with friends, letting the kids play, or bringing your dog along. The beer selection is fantastic, with something for every taste--from crisp lagers to hoppy IPAs and seasonal favorites. The rotating food trucks are consistently excellent, and there's almost always live music, games, or other entertainment to enjoy. We also love grabbing a few cans to go so we can enjoy our favorite brews at home. Highly recommend!

We opted for a table inside, and there was plenty of space. They don't generally have food beyond a few snacks, but it seems like they try to have a food truck around during busy times. In terms of the beer, I really appreciated the wide selection. This wasn't the type of place that serves 10 different IPAs with everything else being an afterthought. They had a dunkel, an American wheat, a festbier, an American style oktoberfest (seasonally), plus many others. The beer was generally good, but not always exceptional. I'm also very opinionated around beer, so take that with a grain of salt. Overall, this was a nice find. It made for a fun afternoon while I was in the area.

This cozy wine bar was a fun stop for a PSU weekend, while getting out of the college town. The gentleman that took our order was kind, engaging, and very helpful when we were making our wine selections. We ended up finding wonderful conversation with other patrons inside and thoroughly enjoyed happening upon this place. While they do not serve coffee, there were cheese plate selections that I saw others order. All looked so good!

My wife and I enjoyed a flight tasting and opted to go with the larger pours (slightly more expensive). Let me just say, they aren't messing around with those larger offerings! They present the glasses in a unique and lovely spiral serving rack, and each sample was closer to a typical glass of wine. There's more than 40 unique offerings on the menu, so we went with a divide and conquer approach. My wife opted for whites and assorted sweet wines, I went with dry reds. As we worked our way down, sharing each other's flights, we found all the wine to be very good. Honestly, we could've bought a bottle of most everything we tasted. We particularly enjoyed the Pinot Noir (see attached label and don't mind the corners, I took the photo as I was removing the label for my wine journal). But what's nice about Seven Mountain is that most anyone can probably find a wine that fits their preferences (or multiple options for that matter). The Petite Sirah, Cab and Merlot are also good choices for dry reds. Plenty of good white choices as well - both the Riesling and the Dry Riesling are excellent, as are the Chardonnay, Vidal and Pinot Grigio. Dry, crisp, flavorful - perfect for pairing with cheeses or fish dishes. If you opt for the larger samples, my one piece of advice would be to budget enough time to drink responsibly. The tasting room is conveniently located near other shops and restaurants, so feel free to make an afternoon of it and support some local businesses.
