The goat cheese especially made the sandwich for me, and I would have happily taken even more of the slaw and sauce. My husband had the smashburger and said it was absolutely worth the $18 price tag. And the fries! Perfectly crispy, and the balsamic ketchup was ridiculously addictive. We finished with the cinnamon-sugar fried ice cream cannolis, and they disappeared in about five minutes. Crunchy cinnamon-sugar shell, cold ice cream, chocolate, whipped cream, and strawberries--and even the strawberries were delicious, not just decoration. We decided to eat downstairs in the bar area. It had ha nice cozy low key atmosphere. Which was nice. We also felt like we were well taken care of there. There's parking along the Main Street, as well as lots of spots in the back of the building. You can enter from the main entrance of the hotel and take the elevator down or you can head down the steps in the back to enter. Doesn't matter which way, just get here. We were absolutely blown away by the quality, portions, flavor profiles, and service in this little gem. We sat at the bar and were greeted immediately by a super friendly bartender named Matt. He was very attentive, friendly and welcoming. He was always checking up on us and making sure that we were always good. Service was fabulous. There's a timeline of the history of this historic building on the back of the menu. We ordered two drinks. One was an apple cider margarita and the other was a strawberry gin fizz concoction that was amazing. Both of these drinks were delicious. If we weren't driving and staying in the actual hotel above this tavern, we would have tried several other ones on the menu. Lots of creative choices that looked to be tasty based on the mix of ingredients. For the food - the menu was enticing and extensive. Lots of creative things happening here. The app we decided on was the Parmesan crusted Brussels and boy did they not disappoint. Absolutely delicious. We opted for The French Dip with fries and some magical au jus and a Union Smash burger with fries for our meals. Both are highly recommended!!! The burger was served on this delicious cloud of brioche bun and stacked high with two patties (perfectly cooked), pickles, dijonaose, and cheese. The French Dip had the most magnificent crusty roll and tender meat. Then there are these amazing Parmesan parsley fries that are perfectly cooked and served hot! We could have eaten an entire plate of these. To go boxes were needed. Big portions. We couldn't fit dessert! The bill does come with some tasty Andes mints. Prices here are extremely reasonable! However, I'm terrible about keeping secrets. Plus, especially in this challenging business climate, local shops need all the support they can get. If you are a beer lover who enjoys rare and aged bottles of hard to find or out of production beers, this unassuming spot has a remarkable and delightful selection of brews I never expected to stumble upon in a tiny Pennsylvania town. Part of me wanted to buy everything and find a way to schlep it all back to Michigan. Instead, I chose to just get what I could enjoy on this trip, and save the other bottles for those fortunate souls who might learn of the treasures that await inside. I got: The latest vintage (2020) Bourbon County Barrel Stout, but the Kentucky Fog variant which I had never seen before. It was the best BCBS I've had to date. A large format bottle of Goose Island Halia from 2016 which was simply delightful! It was drinking perfectly, and I was tempted to go back and see if they had any more. A large format bottle of Goose Island Lolita from 2016, which was also drinking well, and was a pure pleasure with the integrity of the raspberries holding up to the years. A New Belgium La Folie from 2017, which I had the chance to try back in 2017, so it was super fun to taste a funkier version of it with more years in the bottle. The Smuttlabs Brett & I may not have held up quite so well since its 2016 bottling. Most of the carbonation had dissipated. That said, its brightness was the perfect pairing for some charcuterie back at the family farm. Similarly the Wild Devil Brett IPA from Victory Brewing, aged in red wine barrels, didn't quite hold up as well to the years. However, it was still fun to drink. But I didn't even scratch the surface. I asked the bartender if I could take a snapshot of the beer list to show my friends in case they wanted additional bottles. She said yes. And since I consider so many folks in the Yelp Community to be my friends, here it is. Hopefully I can make it back to Bedford in December. All I ask is that you leave me a couple of bottles so I can try some more rare and old beers without having to stand in line with the bearded masses of craft beer chasers. The weird gray market of beer trading is just not my scene.
