We got: Water spinach cooked garlic style: ehh maybe the veggie wasn't in season because it wasn't very good Clams in black bean sauce: taste was ok but the size was more like mini clams Fried sole fish: this was my fav out of all 3. The fish was huge so totally worth the money. It was crispy and once dipped in the soy sauce tasted very nice. The place is very clean compared to other Chinese restaurants. By one standard, 'R House is a decent restaurant. If you were to place it in the middle of Katy or Cypress, its food would be rather serviceable. However, it is actually located in the middle of Chinatown. And on a Sunday evening, when all the neighboring restaurants were busy, we walked into 'R House as the only patrons the entire night. We ordered the house special noodles, the beef with black pepper, and the chicken wings. Again, all told, the food was decent -- nothing special, nothing horrible, but nothing to write home about. And being the only ones there made it awkward. I'm just glad we didn't get sick. There are simply better restaurants literally next door, like FuFu or East Wall. 'R House does compete on price pretty well, and it is open late. So unless it's midnight and you're hankering for some cheap Chinese, I would recommend passing on this location. read more

One of the newest restaurants in the Cafe 101 or Star Snow Ice plaza. The old chef from House of Bowls opened up his own restaurant. The stir fried noodle with black pepper is easily my favorite dish at the restaurant. Beware, if you go at an odd time (in my case 9pm), the chef will cook dishes one at a time. So if you have a party of 6 like me, he will cook each dish by themselves. So by the time the last person got their dish, the person who got their dish first was already done. Another note to this restaurant is that they take credit card. This is very rare for chinatown so just letting you guys know it isn't cash only. read more

I'm shocked at how i haven't reviewed this place yet. Yes it may be a fufu knockoff ... but what restaurant isn't considered a fufu knock off, when you could make the argument that all these restaurants put out the same dishes for the most part. but I like to think of it as a better improved version. R House, is smaller, cleaner, friendlier in my opinion. The service is quicker, the food just taste better to me. Price is around the same and its quiter. This is one of the many restaurants in the new dun huang plaza, and I would advise those who aren't a fan of Hong Kong style food to look elsewhere. The food here is nothing special and sometimes just plain lackluster. This is evidenced by its ample seating even when its next door neighbors are bustling with customers. I do enjoy the veggie w/egg dish, but the clams with basil I had here was just terrible. Overall, just another ho-hum restaurants which will satisfy some taste buds but not many. read more

Service pretty horrible. Our server came to us with a sniffling nose and had someone else come take my order. Stir-fried noodles (Ho-Fun) was actually good, Wonton Soup needed more seasoning, General Tso's Chicken was bit bland and dry, Bo Luc Lac was okay, and Fried Calamari didn't taste that good. My hubby and I love to come here for some late night snacking! Sometimes we eat pretty late due to our busy schedules, and 'R House is one of the few places in Houston that stays open pretty late. My favorite is the hot and the sour soup and the salt and pepper shrimp. I feel that this place is a less saltier than most foods you eat at other Asian restaurants, and it still tastes pretty good. read more

Flavors are very bland. Good service though. The owner dresses as like the waitresses and is just so nice! The salt and pepper tofu is not bad. I went for the lunch special. I also got the mapo tofu. I don't know why but I remember it tasting better before like in 2014. And got the pork with garlic sauce... where's the garlic? What sauce? I only see onions like they mindlessly just cooked it. This restaurant used to be called something else and the name of the restaurant was in Chinese (only). I returned to this restaurant not knowing that it was renamed with a new owner. I came for lunch wanting cheap chinese food. For $5.99 per plate, I ordered the General Tso's Chicken, Hainanese chicken, and Ong Choy (Green veggie). They were all good! The reason I'm giving this place two stars is because of the HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!! I moved to Houston from Hawaii last year and I'm still learning where to find some good eats and I stumbled upon this place through Yelp. Yelp reviews are on point. The food is definitely delicious, but the service just kills your appetite. We went there on a Thursday night and it was pretty busy, we sat down and they came to clean up the table quickly, but that was about it. We waited for ten minutes and I finally got up to get the menus, when we were ready we waived the servers and no one came over to our table. There was a large party of 10+ that was about to come in so we wanted to get our orders in. I finally got up AGAIN to tell the server that we were ready to order..... It took another five minutes and we had to waive the other server and she finally came to take our orders. We had to ask multiple times for water. Our food came out and it was delicious but I wanted to walk out. Majority of their customers are Asian, I'm Asian, but I feel that because I'm NOT Chinese and my husband is White, we did not get the same service that everyone else received. We watched everyone get seated, handed menus, served waters and orders taken at a very decent time, but no, NOT the bi-racial couple. It's upsetting because the food is delicious but we will not be back here again and oh did I mention that when we paid our tab, they shorted us $5 in our change? I came here with my best friend on the weekday.Honestly strolled into this place looking for dumplings but it was so late we decided why not check it out. I ordered the beef with egg dish that came with rice. The egg portion was very generous and runny. It was all over the whole dish which I loved. It was on top of a bed of rice and beef that was super tender. I really liked this dish but do I crave it? Not too much but this place is cheap and food is good. My friend got something from the clay pot portion and she loved it. If you want a late, cheap casual dinner I do recommend coming here. read more

Been here multiple times over the last few years and nothing has disappointed. Things to get: - Lamb Hot Pot - Mango Beef - Tofu with Mushrooms - Fried Sole Fish Food always comes in large family-style portions. Lunch dishes are cheap and filling (essentially same menu but at lunch prices). Cons: Staff gets a bit flustered when the restaurant is packed but do not hesitate to flag them down when needed. Seating in the restaurant is very packed in. You will get well acquainted with the table next to you. They also open late for all the late night food runs! read more

The food was good but the service was TERRIBLE. My friend and I went there around 10:30. We sat down for like not even 10 minutes(we got the menu 5 minutes after we arrived), the lady with short hair glasses just came and told us to order because it's 10:40 and they closed at 11. We told her to give us 5 more minutes and she just stood next to us giving us pressure. I thought the kitchen was going to close so I was okay with that, until I figured out there's so many people came in after us and took like 20 minutes to look at the menu. I wasn't happy with that but that's fine, the food was good too. After we're done we asked for the check, the lady THREW the check on the table and said something(could not hear what she was saying) with a really bad attitude. We weren't happy with the service so we didn't give as much tips and left. We ordered tomato beef over rice and beef stew over rice. The tomato beef was drowned in tomato sauce which completely took away from the dish. Even though I found the sauce totally overpowering, that was not the only downfall of the dish. The beef itself was on the dry side - maybe that is why they overdid the sauce? And the tomato slices were also on the sour side, so it only left a few small bites of unsmothered steamed rice as the single redeeming factor. The beef stew was good, but I've had better elsewhere. The beef was chewy and not fall apart tender, which I expect from really good beef stew. The tender greens were fresh and flavor overall was tasty. We'll give this place a few more tries to see if there are better dishes on the menu. read more

I am such a huge fan of R House!!! I go to this restaurant almost 3 times and up a week. Every time i order different food, they never let me down. The most like food in R house is lamb pot. It tastes unique and delicious. you have more than 200 choices to enjoy your lunch and dinner. their waiter staffs are very nice and cute~no matter about food quality or service or location(chinatown), everything is good. I will highly recommend here if you want some Cantonese food. 1 star for food quality 1 star for nice service 1 star for good location, easy to find 1 star for very good deal of lunch special 1 star for always adding new foods, every time i can get something new. Love love love this place!! When they were still opened on bellaire and kirkwood my family alway went there every Sunday. Their fried milk and orange pork is one of my favorites on the menu. I know not everybody likes fried Intestines but they make it pretty good. They have a wide variety of items on the menu. I've tried many dishes and still haven't found anything I didn't like. Went here late last night with a large group of coworkers after work. We probably took up a third of their tables. It's the little restaurant right next to the original fufu's cafe. They may have to battle with a little competition in the shopping center, but their food is genuine, authentic and fantastic! Naturally flavorful and cooked to perfection! Loved their fried rice, fried tofu, sautéed garlic greens, salt toasted squid and the salt toasted pork chops(my fave). Since I was sick, I got a bowl of wonton soup to myself. It was Delicious! Flavorful yet still light and soothing for my throat. Felt bad because I couldn't share it with anyone unless I wanted to get them sick too. Our waitress was very friendly, fast and attentive. For Fufu lovers - if there's a long wait at Fufu's but you notice some space available at R House, don't hesitate to come next door and give it a try!
