Fung's Kitchen is a Houston staple that always impresses. The food here is consistently great, with quality service. They've done a good job of maintaining the space over the years as well, making sure to renovate. Even though I've been here so many times over the course of my life, this is the first time I get to write a review! I only remembered to take pictures of a few dishes that we got - beyond that I was too occupied with enjoying the food. The steamed shrimp were amazing! So sweet, easy to peel, and they provide gloves and wet wipes! The lobster noodles were also fantastic with the noodles absorbing so much flavor. Not pictured were the Peking Pork Ribs which were phenomenal! Crispy on the outside, flavorful, sweet, and tender. I was eating that dish like candy. Throughout the meal, our plates were exchanged for new ones, which was super helpful in starting clean again. The price point at Fung's may be more expensive than other Chinese restaurants, but this is definitely an elevated dining experience with consistently high quality food and presentation! read more

If you're looking for speed, large quantities at an ok price - this is the place! Lots of servers rolling carts of food around, offering them to your table on an ongoing basis. Choose whatever you'd like, eat up, there's plenty more. The place is a machine, must feed hundreds of hungry diners per day! I imagine its best suited for groups of folks, families, etc. Dishes are not always piping hot. I don't especially like that I'm constantly being sold on more food than I need or want. read more

I would recommend for weekends to make sure a table is reserved and try not to go during main eating hours since the parking lot is usually very full. My family ordered lots of dishes, but my personal favorites of the many we ordered were the Peking Duck (10/10 every time, must try whenever you come here) and the lightly battered jalapeño grouper (incredibly clean and easy to eat, balances with the much heavier items). These two dishes really stood out in the selection we had and are good every time we have been here. There were a few of the dishes that I thought weren't the greatest. Firstly, the lobster we had ordered was a tough and very fishy, making it hard to eat (I would likely order it in the sauce and with noodles, rather than the drier version). The pork belly was a little too heavy on the fat/meat ratio and left a very oily taste in my mouth. The jasmine tea, which I usually use to wash everything down, was kind of diluted and tasted like sink water. These dishes were not the norm for this restaurant's quality, but with so many different options, there were bound to be weaker points in the menu. I'm always excited to eat at Fung's Kitchen, and with some amazing options, it provides a very elevated selection of foods that always impress me. My family and I heard a lot of hype about Fung's Kitchen. So while we were on our Houston trip, we decided to check it out for the first time. To keep it short... it was WORTH the hype!! We got there a little early before they opened and it's a good thing we did that because there was already a line. But it went by fast and we got to our table at a timely manner. The inside looked really nice and spacious. The service was really nice and quick. We just got the typical dim sum dishes from the push carts, but everything tasted really good! I especially loved the steamed egg custard buns. It was so juicy and fresh. With 2 people dining, our total came out to $62.25 which isn't too bad considering the quality of our food and what we ordered. The parking can get really packed fast so just be mindful of that. Even the Congee wasn't all that hot Lots of carts rolling until 3pm so we rushed over Service was impressive because it didn't matter who was there, and there were lots of staff, when I needed something they immediately delivered. Never really had a designated server but there were enough staff around to take care of us. Came here with family on a Saturday for dinner, and it was a great experience overall. The inside was very clean and nicely decorated, which made it feel comfortable and welcoming. We ordered a variety of dishes, and everything came out surprisingly quickly. All of the food was delicious and authentic. They are known for their seafood dishes, and everything was packed with flavor. Definitely did not disappoint! The servers were very attentive and did a great job combining dishes as new ones came out, making sharing easy and seamless. I've been here a few times for dim sum and for a standard chinese dinner. While not the best, this is a solid dim sum place that does it via push-cart style where it's either in a display case or a metal cart. All the dim sum favorites are here with the turnip cakes, the panfried pork dumplings, shu-mai, shrimp dumplings, tofu skins, rice noodle wraps, and spicy duck skins among the favorites for me. They also have the tasty salt and pepper wings, crispy cauliflower, and the chinese broccoli in oyster sauce which are shareable favorites that are excellent alternatives for those who don't like dim sum (although if you're not a dim sum fan, GTFO of my table). Dim sum is only available during lunch from 11-3. So if you get here afterwards, the menu is more traditional upscale chinese dishes. But that includes some exotic dishes such as the lobster tower (I haven't had this yet but i will!). Some of the dishes I've tasted that are delicious are the singapore noodle stir fry, the crispy frog legs, and the cashew scallops w/ veggies. Sometimes they'll have pork hocks although those were a bit salty for me; but if that's your thing, have it. The decor of the restaurant gives Hong Kong/Chinese blessings with the red curtains and golden perched statues adorning the entrance area. The servers move quickly and communicate in English but you best be getting here with someone who speaks Chinese as you'll get the best recommendations and items that could potentially be off the menu! Wow, Fung's Kitchen is over the top! Let me tell you about what makes Fung's kitchen second to none in Houston. We had a sort of family reunion in Houston and wanted some really good Chinese food. We reserved a room for our huge party of 19. You have to drop at least 3G on a room and boy was it worth it. I can't remember the last time I had such amazing food. The seafood is so fresh! You pick your lobster (we chose and 8lb behemoth) out of the tank. And they will cook it several different ways, using everything from head to tail and presenting it in such artistic fashion that you almost don't want to eat it. We had lobster sashimi, ginger scallion lobster, lobster fried rice, on and on. We also had black bean clams, fish maw soup, Dungeness crab, Peking duck, sizzling beef, some greens.....and I can't even remember all the dishes we had but everything was spectacular. I have to say, the service was top notch and the staff was very accommodating as we had small children and a baby and they had to bring in a little kiddie table for us to accommodate our large party. I've driven past Fung's Kitchen for years and never ate here. My sister booked a reservation for us for our family Chinese New Year celebration dinner here tonight. The interior of the restaurant was very nice and remodeled. The inside of the restaurant was spacious with lots of tables. It was pretty busy this evening, but it didn't feel cramped at all. The moment we walked through the door we were greeted promptly. We had two big tables for the 16 of us. The food was good and the service was great! We ordered several dishes including whole steamed sole fish. It was a pretty good size fish and the quality was so fresh and steamed perfect. As I've said before, It's extremely unusual to go to an Asian restaurant that has good food and service especially with a big group! We'll definitely be back! read more

My friends and I came for dim sum on a Saturday around 10:15 am to get good parking and seating. There was already a line forming by the time doors open at 10:30 am. The manager was very welcoming and thanked us for coming. Our server was attentive and the dim sum carts immediately came rolling out. They had all the classics like shumai, har gow, cheung fun (rice noodles with shrimp), char siu bao (bbq pork buns), gailan (Chinese broccoli), fried taro puffs and chicken feet. There are definitely lots of dim sum options! The food came out warm and fresh. My favs were the shumai and fried taro puffs. We ended our meal with hot tea. Fung's is a Houston staple! I've only ever came here for dim sum twice. There's a ridiculously long wait time and a longer line out the door. Once all the parking spots fill up, you have no choice but to valet. The restaurant has pretty much all your basic dim sum available. My favorite specifically from here are the lotus wrapped sticky rice filled with meat and the salted egg yolk custard buns! I think there are better dim sum places in the Bellaire area but this place is always poppin! There are so many tables and they're all filled up with people so it gets pretty loud. read more

Fung's Kitchen is a very large, traditional-style dim sum restaurant with plenty of seating, but be prepared for a long wait, especially during peak hours. The dim sum is served the old-school way, pushed around on carts, which is fun for the experience but doesn't always guarantee the food is fresh and hot. The food was just okay. Nothing was particularly memorable. Some items were cold, and the rolled rice cakes with shrimp were disappointingly dry and hard. Even the lobster wasn't very impressive. There are plenty of other dim sum spots in Houston that offer better food quality without the long wait. The parking situation is also atrocious. What a treat! Well worth the visit as it was a parting dinner prior to boarding our flight home. You can order most of the Chinese food staples here. There's a menu was very comprehensive. On a Sunday evening, it was VERY busy and there wasn't a wait for walk in. I thought the roster duck was a fan favorite. Our biggest mistake was not ordering a larger size. The food here is excellent, but I think it's a bit over priced. The price can be justified by the premium look and feel on the inside. Packed on thanksgiving day. We came in 15 minutes after they opened and the parking lot was almost full as they roped off half of it for their valet service (boo). They said they don't take reservations on thanksgiving Day because it's crazy busy and it's just first come first served. But when I went inside they asked ... if I had a reservation! Double Boo. Thankfully the restaurant was only 3/4 full. So we got seated right away. But within 10 more minutes the line was out the door. There's a large side room dedicated for waiting for a table and it's past the hostess stand. The waiting room was almost full when we left at 11:45 am. But the Lobby was shoulder to shoulder. And outside people waiting as well. No parking spots too. Ack As for the food I find they didn't really have a huge selection on the push carts. Many standard dishes. And all of them were considered either medium or large. So the bill was about bit high. They have a hot item line past the restrooms where you can bring your card sheet up and order some fried stuff. There were also other non hot items there but most of these were also on the push carts. It's loud in there. And the waiters have that super loud Cantonese talk. Just like being in Hong Kong I suppose. I thought overall the new Ocean Palace was a better option. Both in terms of crowds, staff, food, parking and price. The service and ambience is 5 stars. The place is super spacious (you can have a Chinese wedding banquet in there!). The staff are constantly walking around making sure your tea cup or water cup is full, and clearing away empty dishes. Honestly, this place was too expensive for the service alone, as I didn't think the dim sum was that great. I ordered my usual: - Ham sui gok (fried glutinous rice dumplings) were a but odd. The inside was too hollow with minimal filling, and they were too crispy. I can only equate it to overly done toast - I can't taste the glutinous rice part! I want it squishy, if that makes sense. - Har gow (shrimp dumpling) were dry, and once you bit into it the dumpling fell apart. - Sticky rice with Chinese sausage and dry shrimp was the most disappointing. It was dry and not flavorful. - Pork egg roll: this was delicious, but was more Vietnamese style, and served with sweet & sour sauce instead of Worcestershire sauce. I got the Peking duck, scallops, and the lobster mountain. The seafood was very fresh. It was the first time where I had a lobster which wasn't well done. It had a slight soft middle which was amazing. The Peking duck was a little too fatty, but it was still fantastic. This is probably the cleanest Chinese restaurant, and the service is incredibly fast. We had the lobster Mountain, orange chicken, mapo tofu, filet mignon with mushroom beef and chicken, fried rice, flaming barbecue pork and snow peas. We past Fung's on the highway, and decided to have a late dinner, and what a great choice, the service was excellent, and big dining room area. The shrimp spectacular, fresh and delicious. The egg rolls with the sauce had great filling ratio. The pea shoots with the fried tofu was simply delicious and one of the best dishes I've ever had, the outside of the tofu cris, yet the tofu inside soft and creamy it was just amazingly good. Lobster Mountain! Fung's Kitchen's got the Lobster Mountain at a very affordable price- Love it! The lobster was a little spicy (too spicy for my 9-year-old, LOL) and very flavorful, and the fries was crispy and sooooo yummy :) The steamed scallops were good; this is my all-time favorite. What a shame they didn't have the steamed oysters at the moment. The "Black Tofu" was very interesting- crunchy on the outside and the inside would just melt in one's mouth. Service was excellent, except for that making a reservation didn't seem helpful. We had a reservation but still had to wait close to 30 minutes to be seated. It's my first time here and even though they opened at 10:30 which I did arrive here on time, our party of 6 still had to wait nearly an hour and a half to be seated. It was really odd but I guess it is what it is. There were so many big parties ahead of us so it was a bit overwhelming. Other than that, as soon as our table was ready, we ended up feeling the wait was worth it. The food carts came around, but I think since we're were in the back of the restaurant, we didn't get to experience all they had to offer. Granted the dishes we didn't get were good, I feel some didn't even pass by us. Regardless, the hargow, steam rice rolls with shrimp were good and the chicken feet were huge and plump! others were really good too. I did wish they had xiao long bao because it just didn't make sense that they didn't have this staple item. I wish they also had congee because I didn't see and that's a regular order for me. I will say I wish their service was better as it took a while to get our water refills and I never got my sprite prior to my meal when I ordered it in the beginning. Bummed. Two words: lobster mountain. Fung's Kitchen had re-opened after a fire incident and they have added the lobster mountain to their menu. It is exactly what you think it is: six lobsters, seasoned, fried, and placed on a bed of french fries and what appears to be a fried taro bowl for structural support. It was messy, delicious, and experience. Our table also tried the following dishes: Fried rice: standard dish, but definitely on the small side. It was served on a plate that looked like a personal dish. Chow mein: beef was tender, noodles were crispy, and sauce was generous. Fried calamari: huge pieces of tender calamari with good amount of breading. This dish lacked flavor though. It could have been a star. Sizzling beef: beef was also tender and sauce was salty and sweet. Fish and egg soup: a little salty and I would have like a thicker consistency. Overall, great service and good food. read more

We were served by a waiter who was incredibly kind, hardworking, and funny. Unfortunately, his manager made the experience uncomfortable. He repeatedly interrupted our meal by yelling at his employees as if we needed assistance, even when we didn't. The manager was rude and treated both his staff and customers poorly. You could hear him shouting at his employees from the other side of the restaurant. This verbally abusive behavior is unacceptable. We will not come back to support a restaurant that enables this terrible management style. read more
