Food was so-so, indoor hot tub didn't work properly and was running most of the night. Overall, it wasn't a good experience for the hefty price tag we payed. Update: The owner of Avalon, Hilary, has contacted me a couple of days ago, expressing sincere concern about our disappointing stay at her B&B back in April 2007. It is a good sign that she is taking reviews and opinions about her business serious, as every competent business owner should. I attribute the somewhat mediocre experience to her absence and I am sure that our experience would have been different if the family would not have been out of town during our visit. I have to echo the two other posters in regards to the rooms and surroundings of the Avalon Bed & Breakfast. The room we stayed in was in impeccable condition, the picturesque surroundings and tranquility we got to enjoy on the patio were perfect, except for the above mentioned problems. That's the sole reason I can't give it 5 stars. However, Hilary has since offered us a free night at her establishment, which is a nice way of trying to remedy our experience. It shows she truly does care about her guests and patrons and we might take her up on her offer.

If you are looking for a one of a kind trip to wine country..then this is where you need to…read morestart... Pearlessence Bed & Breakfast is more than anything you'd expect from your regular run of the mill inns. It is absolutely divine...the perfect place to experience wine country and relaxation.... Finding the place after the sun had set proved to be a bit tricky..it is out there people..way out there...where streetlights don't go. We were a little nervous about being so far out in the country at first...but as soon as we pulled up the long drive to the wide open space in back, we were instantly relieved by the beauty and the peacefulness of it all. We parked...right next to a vineyard. The air was crisp and clean and fresh, and I could not take my eyes off of the blanket of stars above. It had been too long since I had seen a sky like that... Linda and Greg met us outside with big, warm, welcoming smiles. They showed us around the room...all of the hidden treasures. OK...let me tell you about the room. It's pretty brand new. There is only one room with a king size bed and a pull out sofa. The bed is heated. That's right. It has a little dial on both sides to heat the bed. The beautiful slate floors...are heated. Not a typo. They are heated!! There is a beautiful gas fireplace controlled by a remote...a rainfall shower for two...I mean. I could go on and on. This place is where it's at you guys. seriously. Really romantic. Out the window...you can view a Field of grapevines in the morning while you pick up a basket filled with local apple juice, pastries, salmon, french press coffee..you name it...it's in there. For further amenities and pictures, please check out their website: http://www.pearlessenceinn.com/amenities.html Another great thing about staying here isn't just about the amenities...it's about the people. I cannot tell you how much we adored Greg and Linda. They are incredibly welcoming, full of great information concerning wine, the area, etc. And...they totally respect your privacy. You don't have to worry about constantly running in to them, or feeling uncomfortable around them...they know how long to stay..and they know when to leave. In fact, we enjoyed their company so much, we wished we would have spent more time with them. I really liked the location of the place. You could, in three days, see a lot of Napa, Sonoma, and my personal favorite Russian River/Dry Creek Valley. Honestly, for the money, the location, and the beautiful views, I can't imagine anyone would go anywhere else. We will be back...often.

I chose Pearlessance River Inn as our B&B while planning my tour de pour through Sonoma County…read more We've done wine country every other year so we wanted to flavor Sonoma's beer offerings as supposed to Napa's wines. Lagunitas, Russian River and Bear Republic were all the must hit breweries on our trip. I called Linda a few weeks in advance and got us a two nighter. I mapped everything out in advance and Sebastopol was a great location in between the breweries. Linda was professional and very accommodating as she suggested other local microbreweries that we can try. When we drove through Sebastopol, we noticed tons of vintage shops. My wife was in heaven! I'm there for the booze and apparently she's there for the old knick knacks! Whatever makes her happy right? Anyhoo, we arrived at Pearlessance around 6:00 p.m. and was immediately captivated by the colors of the leaves from the vines. Who knew that a B&B was tucked in the middle of an actual vineyard right? Greg greeted us and gave us a tour of the property. Before he left us alone, he asked what time we would like breakfast. We told him around 10 the next morning. At exactly 10 the next morning, we woke up to a light knock on our door with breakfast piping hot on our porch. We had a blast touring all of the breweries and buying vintage crap! We bought so much that we couldn't fit all of it in our lil Prius on our way home. Growlers of craft beer is definitely a priority to bring back to the Bay Area. We asked Greg if could leave this big wooden mirror that we bought until a later weekend and he was so gracious enough to keep it there for us. We came back as promised and Greg even helped us strapped the big wooden mirror onto the roof of our SUV. We had a wonderful experience at Pearlessance River Inn from the beginning to the end! We've stayed at a lot of B&Bs in the past and this is our favorite by a long mile. The single room makes it so intimate. I don't necessary enjoy waking up and eating breakfast with 10 other couples like it's a dining hall. Breakfast is brought to your room and hell, you could even eat breakfast naked if you wanted too! Don't hesitate! If you're reading this, don't waste your time looking at other places.

The innkeeper, Bob, greeted us in person when we arrived around 11:30pm; He personally showed us to our room and calmly described how ordering breakfast worked, gave us wifi credentials, and then let us relax. If you're looking for upscale luxury, this is not the place for you. If you're looking for an exceptionally clean, cozy, and well run B&B than look no further. You're staying in a tranquil, untroubled place that persuades you to decompress and clear your mind. Notable Amenities: - WiFi - Feminine products in the bathroom - Novels and light music - Fireplace - Continental breakfast - Binoculars - Hiking backpack - Mini refrigerator What is provided to you promotes relaxation and exploring your surroundings. We spent our mornings in the room eating breakfast, listening to Claude Debussy and watching the mist clear over the bay. We then headed out to go kayaking all day, had oysters and champagne for dinner, then retreated back to the B&B to cozy up in front of the fire. *Note About Breakfast* Breakfast is brought to your room and includes the following: tea, orange juice, and an assortment of breads (blueberry, coffee, pumpkin, poppyseed, etc.) *Note About Your Surroundings* You are near a few restaurants, and a light breakfast is provided, otherwise not much is around. I would suggest bringing some fruits/veggies and other light snacks when you are out during the day.

I recently stayed three nights at Cottage Grove Inn in Calistoga, paying about $1,997 total. The…read moreproperty is charming at first glance--beautiful garden setting, cottage-style rooms on a tree-lined street, and very friendly, warm service. The grounds are well kept and the inn is clean, with clear potential to be a truly special place. However, at nearly $700 per night on a weekend, the experience fell well short of expectations. The property feels underinvested. The furnishings are dated and worn rather than intentionally antique, and the bathroom is significantly outdated. Towels were also visibly old and frayed. The biggest issue was the bed. It was extremely uncomfortable--more like old, degraded foam than a supportive mattress--and made sleep difficult, with noticeable motion transfer even with a partner. We pulled back the bedding and found an old foam topper over a worn, stained mattress. Using a photo of the manufacturer's label, we determined the mattress was manufactured in September 1996 and likely purchased at Square Deal Mattress Factory in Chico, CA. If accurate, that would make the mattress over 30 years old, which is far beyond any reasonable replacement cycle for a hospitality property at this price point. Breakfast was also disappointing--limited, mostly store-bought items such as stale croissants, basic English muffins, and very weak coffee with minimal quality or attention to detail. In summary, Cottage Grove Inn has a beautiful setting, clean rooms, and excellent staff, but the lack of investment in core comfort elements--especially beds, bathrooms, and furnishings--makes the value difficult to justify. I would not return at the current price level without significant updates.

Sound: We had one of the front rooms and the busy road noise is loud. Also, we could hear everything from our neighbor including them snoring. 2. I asked for an amenity for the birthday celebration and we were promised something waiting. I had to ask again and we ended up with two pieces of chocolate. I've paid a lot less for hotels that have included way better birthday amenities. 3. The room is nice but nothing exceptional. 4. Smores hour is cute but the smores are definitely stale. 5. I dropped something behind the tub and it was clear things had not been cleaned back there. Everything else was very clean, and that is important to me. 6. The restaurant is overrated. Go to other spots for the vibe and food. The pros: 1. I absolutely love the connections that this hotel has to wineries and wine tasting. We would come back just for this as staying at farmhouse gets you exceptional service at the partner wineries. This is what makes it special! 2. The wine happy hour hosts were also great. Special shoutout to freeman who was extra sweet to us. 3. Everyone is very nice and helpful. The service really stands out and brings this hotel up to 4 stars. 4. The lobby cat is very cute!

It was a TREAT to check-in and get an immediate outpour of love and welcomes. I was offered water, choice of soaps and bath salts from a local selection, and a tour around the property. We arrived after dark and I was so glad I didn't have to stumble around to find my room. My room was cozy and the decor was farm chic. Turn down service was already complete with rice crispy treats on the table the first night and chunky chocolate chip cookies the second night (both incredible). The room was gorgeous and I felt right at home. There were two fridges, one for wine and another for beer and non-alcoholic drinks. The fire place and outdoor fire pit were nice features. I enjoyed the homemade marshmallows at the s'mores table outside. Again, small touches of luxury and love. We felt like we had the entire grounds to ourselves most of the time. We hardly saw the other guests. The grounds were beautifully kept as well as the rooms. It looked like a AD Magazine feature! We attended the wine happy hour, with pours from a local winery. You get a tasting and can purchase a bottle (or more) to enjoy. Some brought their own snacks, otherwise no nibbles were served. We had plans in the area and didn't eat on-site. The on-site restaurant menu looked great and it was a nice option for those who simply wanted to stay and relax. It certainly highlighted farm fresh ingredients. I also did not get a chance to try the Wellness Barn, but I would love to go. There is an outdoor pool, ice cold when I was there. However, the hot tub looked inviting. I forgot my swimsuit, but you must bring yours. Check with the front desk about pool hours. Overall, the staff are kind, hard working, and really try to make your stay special. I loved using the local soaps and salts during my stay. The treats left in the room were definitely delightful. Their pastry chef is excellent. Not so great: *The lights and noise from the refrigerator. *Steam shower did not work and the staff didn't know how to use it. The shower (minus stream pipe) and jacuzzi tub worked perfectly.
