Terrible service. We made a virtual appointment with Dr. Bak for a specific date and time which was confirmed by Lety and when we called, we found it was just typing back and forth with someone and the dermatologist was not even around! I would think that if we are going to be charged for a service, we would get the same quality as if we were there, not non responsive or delayed comments on a website. read more

Already did a review for the Dermatology offices she works out of. Dr. Bak is a wonderful doctor and I recommend her 100%, as a matter of fact I've already made an appointment for my son's dad. She's personable, knowledgeable and makes you feel like someone really cares about your health, physical and mental (lol). Believe me, if you EVER have to deal with skin issues you will understand the mental issues!! Dr. Bak put my mind at ease and started me on a positive path towards healthy skin. Her assistant was incredible, she had the procedure done in moments and it was nearly painless. Much better than I anticipated, I am terrified of needles. I have seen Dr. Bak now for over two years, and I love her! Skin issues can be hard to talk about, but she really puts you at ease. She is incredibly friendly, warm, and easy to talk to. She's a fast talker, but will never rush you out of the office. Dr. Bak is genuinely concerned with her patients, and it shows- she remembered small details that I mentioned in passing from past appointments, which I so appreciated- I know she has lots of patients, but the fact that she can remember I get migraines when I mentioned it once is so nice, it makes me feel properly attended to. I have been seeing Dr. Bak for about 8 months now, I've always had acne and Dr. Bak has been helpful in working with me to clear most of it up! She is quick and down to earth and as long as you are willing to wait it out to see results, you will likely be pleased. My visits are normally brief but super friendly and to the point. Not a fan. She's nice but she's not a dermatologist. She's a family medicine doctor PRETENDING to be a dermatologist. By the way, what's with all these family medicine or internists in Southern California calling themselves dermatologists?? Anyway, I went to her at the advice of a friend who lives in Burbank. I was going to be in the area for a few days for work anyway. I have a skin condition and want a doctor who knows skin disease. Dr. Bak is NOT that doctor. She seemed very nice but it was painfully obvious that she didn't know about my disease. Really, if I want another family medicine doctor's opintion of my skin disease, I would go to my family medicine doctor! Felt like I wasted my time and money again since I have seen several "dermatologists" in the last couple of years who are actually family doctors. Makes me annoyed that they are allowed to say they are dermatologists and waste my time. Now everytime I go to a skin doctor, I ask "is he a board certified dermatologist"? If the answer is no, then I don't go. Sheesh. read more

I have seen Dr. Bak over the past year for a recurring (as well as highly contagious and incredibly annoying) skin infection. She was able to diagnose the condition right away and used cryotherapy, which was pain free, not too costly (insurance providing...) and very effective. From my very first visit to my most recent, Dr. Bak has always been very knowledgeable, kind, professional, efficient, and thorough. She never rushed me, made sure to answer all of my questions, and helped me figure out ways to keep the condition under control. Not much is known about this skin condition, so sometimes there is no definite "answer". I once saw another dermatologist for it and he rushed me and every question I asked ended in "we don't know", which is not very helpful. However, Dr. Bak provided me with some tips, guidelines, and even a brochure, about the infection. Her office hours are usually pretty good too. I have never had an issue finding an open appointment, especially early in the morning before work. I would recommend Dr. Bak to anyone! read more

I have never been to a dermatologist office before and was a little nervous. I had a growth right next to my temple. I was referred to Dr Bak by my insurance company. I was amazed how their entire staff totally made me feel assured and at ease. Meeting Dr Bak was pleasant also. She too made me feel at ease about how the procedure would be handled. She took her time and I felt un-rushed and felt confident that Dr Bak would come to a successful resolution to my issue. I appreciated the time she took to help me. I would absolutely return to this practice. I even scheduled an annual revisit to make certain that as I get older she can monitor any changes in the health of my skin. I have extremely sensitive skin, and had months of care with regard to something I picked up on a trip to Egypt, where several doctors were guessing. It took 1/2 year to get the problem under control during 2013. Meanwhile, as a Trustee, I have been opening boxes that have not been opened in over half a century, and breathing in as well as being brushed by lots of bad air crap. I would get some relief, but where skin irritations were, particularly where there are folds of fat, the areas would not heal. Dr. Rachel Bak was wonderful. She was recommended to me by another doctor who had a daughter with equally sensitive skin, who was successfully treated by Dr. Bak. From the get-go, she was focused on my problem, recognized its seriousness and was kind, but also clear in her directions about what I needed to do as well as that she wanted to follow-up within a week to adjust, if need be, the medications. After over a year of discomfort, mid-2013 to mid-2014, a treatment worked!!! And you know what the secret turned out to be? Desitin! A baby cream. Everything else other doctors had recommended at a much higher cost, only mediated the burning and itching.... Of course, I have continued to see Dr. Bak, and follow-up with her now on other skin issues. She is always cordial, knows my name, has reviewed her notes on my situation so she is speaking to me about my concerns immediately. The office can appear to be focused on "Hollywood Beauty," which is a turn-off, but there is nothing superficial about Dr. Bak. She is present, kind, knowledgeable, bright and quick, and personable. I am very grateful to be in her care, and more grateful than I can say to no longer have constantly irritated skin. read more

Dr Rachel Bak falls in line with many of the reviews about Dr Kay (the owner of the practice) and Kay Aesthetics Dermatology. This is very clearly a money making business over a health care practice. Dr Bak is certainly pleasant, and as far as I know a knowledgeable and able doctor, but her business practices are frankly disgusting. The office itself is staffed by a mixed bag; I encountered some wonderful people as well as some awful people. The office manager -- Will Oriana -- is absolutely horrible and I have no idea why he has that job. My experience: I went in for a general mole check and Dr Bak suggested removing a mole I've had my whole life; I trusted her advice and went ahead with the procedure a few weeks later. About 1 -2 weeks after the procedure the area was red and a little puffier than it had been. I wondered if it might be infected. I actually work in St Joseph's hospital across the street from Dr Kay's/Bak's. I could have asked any of the nurses and doctors I work with (and clearly should have), but I called Dr Bak's office for some direction; I spoke with a nurse there and she casually told me to stop in if I could and let Dr Bak "take a look at it." I thought this would probably be the better/safer thing to do "just in case" and had no idea that they would charge me an OFFICE VISIT for this. I have gone to and worked with plenty of doctors who would never have charged for something like this. She literally looked at my arm and said "It's fine," and they charged me $85! I tried speaking with the office manager which was like speaking to 12 yr old with head-phones on -- he was unprofessional, he wasn't even remotely listening to me, and seemed generally not very bright but at the same time managed to come across as condescending (or tried to but mostly he just seemed stupid). He said he would talk to Dr Bak and in the end (a month later after I called again) I was told by Laura (a very pleasant person in the billing dept) that Dr Bak stated that she examined me, so yes they would absolutely charge me for an office visit. I think this is a grotesque form of business and I agree with the countless reviews about Dr Kay's office that these people's primary motive is to make money above and beyond actually caring about people's health. (By the way -- this $85 is on top of the $311charge for the previous 2 visits and mole removal -- none of which I really needed. I realize all of this is due to my own foolishness in the end but I believe it was very much encouraged and directed by the Dr and office staff. The last visit in particular was the most misguided and negligently communicated. As I stated before, I would NEVER have gone in that day if I had known they were going to charge me for an office visit). read more

Not board certified Dermatologist! I had a severe allergic reaction to an antibiotic skin cream that she provided because stitches on my cheek were infected. I could NOT get through to any nurse or doctor when I called with this urgent issue. My skin was on fire and the immature front office girl refuse to put me thru to medical staff - kept forwarding me to the nurse station voice mail that indicated my wait time was 24 to 48 hours and even told me she would have 'to get my emergency authorized by my HMO first" Ridiculous. In that office I only had a good experience with the nurse. Huge red flag here! read more

I am a doctor's son and am pretty judgmental of professionalism and bedside manner amongst physicians. I saw Dr. Bak because I needed a new dermatologist and was recommended to her associate - who was not available and I could not wait. Now, suffice to say - my issue was an embarassing one and in an embarassing place. So seeing a female doctor was not my first choice. But from the moment Dr. Bak walked in, she made me feel at ease. We talked, she checked me out and treated me in under ten minutes, never rushing me, never making me feel unattended. She dealt with my issue, clearing things up 100% and never made feel awkward. As far as I am concerned, she's my new derm doc, and you'll be glad you made her yours as well. read more

The one star rating refers not so much to Dr. Bak, who has treated me well, but to the office staffer who refused to make an appointment for me despite the fact that I have been a patient at this clinic for a long time and that I last was seen there less than a year ago. I love this office and have not one bad thing to say...in fact I was SO surprised when I refferred a friend and she told me the Yelp reviews were bad. I just read a handful of them and am in shock. Dr. Kay is literally the sweetest man you have ever met...he takes time and really listens to you...he empathizes with your concerns and really makes you feel better...it is SO obvious that he wants what is best for you...he wants to fix your problems and give you the skin that you have always wanted. I have never been rushed when I saw him. Dr. Bak is also the same way...so personable and sweet. It's like talking to an old friend that you've know for years, she doesn't rush you and she really tries to understand what you want done or to acheive by going to see her. She also wants to see your skin improve...she understands. I've also seen Sal, who I coould rave about forever...he is amazing with the microderm and facials...he really knows his stuff!
