I'm with Jenny L. on this one. The hobo is not the way to sample. Not enough meat and if you don't like something you're kind of stuck with it. Cole slaw and corn bland and tasteless. I got the poppers that someone suggested. Loved those. Tasted a lot like the ones at Sonic. A weird bbq sour cream for dipping. A shake comes in one size small. Water is filtered from the fountain so that was good. If you come on a hot day you will stay hot inside cause the AC is NG. It will be cooler at Bruegger's next door. An open kitchen is no excuse. I've been in plenty of comfort in others. It's average cause it's not bad for a chain, and compared to Famous Dave's it's fabulous. We have been going to this place for along time. Lately since the move is changed and not for the better. Portions have gotten small... prices have gotten large. Last night we went I got a pulled pork sandwich with onion rings. Pulled pork portion was fine... onion rings well I got 3 total! For 10.00! The husband ordered brisket and Turkey with fries and beans. Plate came with 10 fries... coleslaw...2 pieces of brisket (old) and 2 pieces of hard smoked Turkey... for 14.00! We also had a dessert to split. Well everything was 36.00 not including a tip.... at a bbq joint that's too much! They dress in tshirts and shorts. It's not a higher end restaurant. read more

As far as the hobo goes my potato wasn't cooked enough for my liking and their Mac & cheese for sure tastes like it's frozen pre-made. Not impressed at all with that. First time trying The Rack Shack and we will be back. The Ribs were cooked perfect, meaty and tender. We tried a couple sides, BBQ Beans and Fries. They were also very good. Looking forward to trying a couple more the next time we visit. My Son tried the Cheese Curds as an appetizer. He liked them much as the Cheese Curds at the Fair. The staff was very helpful and nice. Staff and most quests wore protective masks, but Unfortunately, a few people were aloud to come in and order and wait for their food with no masks even with them, let alone wearing them. read more

I did a takeout order of ribs, slaw and potato salad. I really, really liked everything. The ribs were tender and juicy, the slaw was tasty and the potato salad had a nice zing to it. Although I think this restaurant is way over priced, we decided to get a to go order on Mother's Day. I ordered our food online, the restaurant gave me a pick up time and ran my credit card. I go to pick it up abd there is a handwritten sign on the door saying " closing at 2:00 on Mothers Day. The Eagan store had nothing about this being their hours on their website. And no answer on the phone. While I sat in the parking lot deciding where to go, 7 other customers car to pick up their food-- same situation as mine. People were pissed. Stoped in for lunch and had the sandwich special, got beef brisket on onion bun with fries. I was greeted at the door by who I thought I may be the owner. Service was great things were explained very well. There are 8 bbq sauces to choose from and I don't like spicy and there were 4 that were in my spice level with is awesome. The brisket was chopped and I asked for lean brisket it was lean and had a really nice smoke flavor. Other reviews said the meat was dry, it was not dripping in fat or juice but it was plenty moist and flavorful. The bun was fresh the fries were skin on fresh looking tasting some crunchy some a little softer all around good hot fries. 2 bread and butter pickles were tasty as well. The restaurant itself was very clean and well-kept I was there after the lunchtime rush and all the tables have been cleared and taken care of there wasn't food on the floor or sticky spots there anything that you sometimes find in barbecue restaurants. read more

Ok at best. I got the brisket, it was so so. Not the best but not the worst I've had. The sides were my main issue. The mac and cheese was so disappointing. I knew right when they brought it to the table it was the kind that comes pre made and just tastes fake sadly. The corn bake was okay, halfway edible. But I couldn't eat the mac and cheese. Awful I ordered the three meat combo chicken, pulled pork, and brisket with potato and bbq beans. Here's the run down the chicken was okay why it was shredded and not pieces was weird. The pulled pork was over cooked tough and cold. Brisket was super dry and over cooked I did the brisket pull on it which it failed. The bbq beans had every bean they could find those were under cooked and tough. The potato must have been several days old. read more

I called them today to inquire about catering an event we are doing and the person that answered was not professional with the way he answers the phone. Basically it's someone's cell number. I was asking questions regarding if they do set up like Famous Dave's catering and he didn't seem to understand what I was asking and was being argumentative and told me he was preparing for another event. My wife and I have been trying to find quality BBQ in the Twin Cities, and I would say this is the best we have found around here yet. The HOBO was a good way to try everything to see what you want for next time. The meat was NOT FATTY! Absolutely amazing for a barbecue place. We got the brisket and the pulled pork, and I would highly recommend both. The fixings were good, too, although I think next time I will get things separately. I'm posting a review for one purpose only. The Hobo. My goodness it's good. I had a meat platter (rib tips) and my fiancé had the hobo (with brisket). I wish we had gotten two hobos. All the sides are amazing in combination with the meat. I debated on 1 or 2 stars and I ultimately decided on 2. The pros: clearly laid out menu. I like that there aren't a million things to choose from. I also enjoyed the selection of sauces. Awesome sweet potato waffle fries. The cons: the meat is somewhat dry. The ribs are on the slimey side and "the hobo" is a heap of cheap ingredients and very little meat. The Mac and cheese is over cooked pasta with canned cheese that's extremely bland and under seasoned. I am giving them 2 stars because the potential is there, but it's just not good BBQ. Less than 2 hours after we ate, my boyfriend threw up his entire meal. The next day, I had bad stomach indigestion. I went at around 5 on a Sunday. Right away when we went to order they were out of ribs. We look for different things and then order. It takes awhile to get the food out and they didn't give us our shakes. Halfway through our meal I go up and ask the lady for our shakes. She then makes one but says they can't make vanilla for one of the shakes. The noise was rough on my more sensitive sister's ears as well and was generally crowded and not a good place to dine in. This place is terrible. The staff is poor. Two of our party - out of four - had burned waffle fries. Burned black, that is. The staff argued with us about the burned fries. Said the waffle fries being burned couldn't be helped. The meat serving in the "Sammie" was puny, three or four little slices of turkey. No mayo or lettuce. Two little slices of pickle. Ribs were good, though. The so-called Hobo was mostly potato and slaw, little meat. Piled together and unappetizing. The bill included a surprise: an eleven dollar tip on a sixty dollar bill, added on without our consent. You get what you pay for? Not this time. My expensive visit to Rack Shack BBQ at 2141 Cliff Road left my wallet as empty as my stomach. (These pictures have not been altered nor has the food been tampered with. Any adjustment to the original presentation was an effect of the short car ride home) Long story short: It was Memorial Day. I had big BBQ plans. The rain had bigger plans. The internet tells me that Rack Shack has a new location and I'm all over it. The new building looks great...then I quickly discover how they're paying for it. Let's break this down, the entree on the left is my $29.99 3-meat combo. Supposedly feeds 3 people. Use your own judgement, what 3 people do you know, on Memorial Day is satisfied with that. Aside from the portion size is the presentation. Can I at least have my animals in separate containers? A short ride home with a few curves and I don't know if I'm eating chicken, beef, pork or a combination of all three (Borken?) The second entree is my $20 rib combo...meh. I'm not going to be petty, but it came with a thumbprint of macaroni and cheese on the entree box that nobody bothered to wipe off because who doesn't want to be handed food in a box that looks like someone used as a napkin? All in all I spent a total of $63.18 for the amount of food that would sustain 2 hungry guys on A holiday as opposed to the 4-6 they say it should feed. Money wasn't the issue, value was. As you can see I still left an almost $10 tip for carry out service. Again, the new location is amazing. The staff, the equipment, and the facilities were above par...but if you have to rip off customers just to pay for it all, please do us all a favor and get back to your humble roots. - PS I set up a Yelp account specifically for this review...it ate at me until I couldn't take it any longer. I am a big BBQ fan. I ordered online and waited 50 minutes when it said 10-35. Turns out they said even if you order online, they don't start your order till you show up.. then what's the point of pickup? Pretty disrespectful of my time. Ribs were good. I would avoid the corn. It's awful. It's not cheesy or have any bread on it like the pic on Yelp shows. It's just creamed corn (from a can?) I might give them a second chance and avoid the sides if I am looking to dine in. Just had the most horrible service. All 3 of us ordered pulled pork sandwiches. 2 of us got the right thing one got a brisket by mistake. No apologies she just swiped the plate angrily off the table and returned with what I'm sure was pulled chicken. The sandwich looked nothing like the others. She pretty much just dropped it on the table and when we asked if this was chicken she said no. Poor attitude no customer service at all. What a shame. If she worked for me I woulda sent her home. This place was once great. When they were in their original location the food was legit, the staff friendly, the service fast and the prices fair. Since they've moved, I simply can't recommend this place anymore. Yes, the food is still great, but everything else has gone downhill. It's BBQ. As someone who knows Texas, Memphis and Carolina BBQ, while there are differences in style/flavor, there's one common traint - it's fast. This is not fast. 30 minutes for BBQ? Oh, that's right they were uder-staffed. They were never under-staffed in the old location. I might be able to overlook that, if not for the horribly rude woman who takes your order. OK, I'll even grant you rude. But, who brings their toddler in to work and then spends the whole time preoccupied with a toddler instead of making sure the line moves quickly? From what I observed it was not only rude it was unsafe and unsanitary. My advice is to pass. read more
