Tomato basil soup and Green goddess pesto pasta with chicken
    Candace B.

I stopped in here after my kickboxing class to grab lunch. They have a grab and go area where you can pick up freshly made salads and sandwiches. I decided on the Green goddess pesto pasta with chicken and a because it was a chilly day, I also ordered a cup of the tomato basil soup. While the salad had a good flavor, I didn't particularly enjoy the pasta being part of it. However, the tomato basil soup was fantastic. Really wish I had gotten a bowl of it instead of a cup. Looking forward to trying more of their menu the next time I'm in the area.

Super cute little bistro that had a really pleasant woman working the register. I got the chicken salad sandwich with tomato soup and it was delicious! I love the calm vibe of the interior with the plants

This is a fantastic place to enjoy a wholesome, well-rounded meal. They use the finest ingredients they can source and everything offered is hand-made from scratch and very fresh. The offerings are really well thought-out and clearly chef devised and prepared. I've been in a few times this year with colleagues when we have been working in the area and everyone enjoyed their food. The staff is also attentive, sweet, and put-together. Everyone enjoyed identifying the abundant & diverse plant collection in the sleek, modern dining area.

This is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good. Pretty nice price too.

HOT turkey Apple sando with chips

I know many people love this place, but I really struggle with it. I've sworn off of it in the past, but I come back about once a year to give it another shot. About two weeks ago I ordered the Turkey Apple sandwich and it was delicious. The apples and jam were a nice change and it came cold. Today I ordered the same sandwich and I didn't realize until I got home that it had been cooked. Therefore, the aioli and the jam were runny and made it basically impossible to eat. I would take a bite and half the sandwich would fall out or almost fall out. I don't know if it's supposed to come hot or cold but having it hot makes no sense.

Cute place but absolutely awful, slow service with rude staff. The kitchen was nicer than the staff working the register. They were out of our first two choices, chicken salad and chicken pesto, grilled cheese sandwich was cold so had to be sent back to even melt the cheese and it took about 30 mins to receive the second sandwich and still waiting on the iced tea that was supposed to be brewed. Finally got the tea and it's not even drinkable. Will not recommend or be back. They had to refund orders for people that had been waiting for and had to leave to get back to work.

Met Chaz at the farmers market who told me about my new favorite restaurant in town, Radish and Dill! Amazing sandwiches including gluten free options and a bakery that is to die for! Go try their scones in the morning and grab a French toast or breakfast taco, with fresh pressed juice and sandwiches Galore!

We stopped here for breakfast during a visit to San Marcos. I had the avocado toast and it was delicious. The mousse was so flavorful and the toast was loaded with avocado. I've been places where they toss on a couple of slices but not here. The food came out quickly and while we were eating one of the employees came by and offered us a baked pretzel. They had done an event the night before and had some leftover. Also yummy. The only reason I gave 4 stars and not 5 is because I was looking forward to the Oats and Stuff but it wasn't going to be ready until the next day. I guess the person forgot to make it the night before. Other than that, great place!

My wife had visited years ago, and a close friend had recently recommended it, so it seemed like a good opportunity to give it a try. The building itself is beautiful. We parked in the rear lot and entered through the bakery, which immediately caught our attention. There was an impressive variety of pastries on display, and the kids were quickly informed they could each pick one out later if they behaved. The restaurant also has several colorful walls and decorative displays that make for fun photo opportunities and selfies. We were seated at a large table toward the back near the restrooms. Service was friendly throughout the meal and reasonably attentive despite the restaurant being busy. To drink, I ordered the jalapeño prickly pear margarita, while my wife chose a peach, coconut, and strawberry margarita. Both had excellent flavor. My wife's drink was especially memorable--it tasted like a cross between a strawberry margarita, peach bellini, and piña colada. The only thing missing was a little more tequila, as both drinks leaned more toward the sweet side than the spirited side. The chips were slightly thicker than I typically prefer but still enjoyable, and the salsa selection was excellent with a pleasant level of heat. The kids ordered bean and cheese tacos from the children's menu, and the restaurant happily substituted fruit for rice without any upcharge, which we appreciated. For our entrees, my wife ordered the vegetarian enchiladas while I chose the fajitas. The fajitas were good overall, though the meat portion felt a bit light and seemed stretched by a generous amount of green peppers. The rice, however, was excellent and one of the better components of the meal. Before leaving, we visited the bakery. The kids enjoyed their donuts and cookie, while I opted for a guava empanada that turned out to be one of the highlights of the visit. Overall, Casa Maria impressed me more with its atmosphere, bakery, and creative drinks than with the food itself. It's a beautiful restaurant with a fun family-friendly vibe, a strong bakery program, and some excellent margarita flavors. I'd gladly stop back for the pastries and drinks--and if they ever decide to be a little more generous with the tequila, even better.

With over fifty years in the foodservice business I have had the pleasure of serving some of the finest restaurants in the country. That also means tasting some of the finest foods served by these restaurants. My favorite cake ever, was a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting made by the Pub Restaurant Group in the Pacific Northwest. They used toasted fresh ground spices, finely grated carrots, crushed pineapple, broken walnuts, brown sugar a little orange zest and oil instead of butter. It was always the most delicious, moist cake with flavor that lasted all night. So this Easter I ordered Carrot Cake from Pennington Cakes, was assured of the quality and ingredients used. Even assured of crushed pineapple for extra moistness. Placing the order I was convinced that the $55.00 was well spent. Well I hate to say the cake was a complete disaster. The cake was a stale fall apart dry crumbly mess with a non-cream cheese sweet gooey frosting. It was not edible. Thank God I made an Apple cake for non cream cheese lovers. It saved the day. When I called to discuss this with the owner, he nastily dismissed me as a second hand complainer with little knowledge compared to his many years in the baking business. I wonder how many different names and places he has used to stay in business this long. CROSS THIS PLACE OFF THE LIST AND NEVER COME BACK.
