I have personally done business with the Radnor Vet Hospital just once: to check in my pet for the boarding facility after hours. I waited an unreasonable amount of time for my turn while the front desk staff chitty-chatted socially and shot the breeze with animal parents they knew well. It was off-putting for a new client. You want to feel as though you and your pet matter, not be ignored. We have not been back since then ... and won't ever after the recent public vendetta conducted by the owner, Dr Donato. He has it out for a local commissioner who's been investigating neighbors' claims about noise problems at the practice. The doctor's behavior is unseemly and angry; not the way I want the caregiver of my animal to behave. read more

I am definitely one to look at Yelp reviews before I use a service, and I admit that I was reluctant and skeptical about bringing my parrots to this vet, given the negative reviews. I decided to try them out anyway because I wasn't able to find another option in our neighborhood that I felt had a satisfactory amount of experience with birds. After having been a client for about 8 months, I'm very glad I decided to give Radnor Vet Hospital a chance. Every staff member (with one indifferent exception, who I have not seen there since our first visit), has been courteous, friendly, and professional. Dr. Donato and Dr. Bowers are both very knowledgeable about birds and patient about explaining our different treatment options. After every visit, we receive a follow-up phone call or email, usually from one of the doctors themselves, and they have always been very thorough in answering all of our questions. One thing that really impressed me was how they handled it when another client brought in a sick bird while we were in the waiting room. The risks of exposure to ill birds in the vet's office was something we had been warned about by other bird owners, so this made me nervous. But rather than having the ill bird wait with us in the waiting room, staff members whisked her into an exam room immediately and then thoroughly mopped the lobby floor everywhere the other client had walked. If I had any complaints so far, it would be that we have spent a good deal of money with this vet. However, I feel that this was really our choice, as we were always given clear information about our options, ranging from wait-and-see, to homeopathic remedies, to low cost medications, to state-of-the-art diagnostics. Living on the Main Line, I am used to paying top dollar for most services anyway, and I don't mind doing so if the service lives up to the price. I recently read an article about how Dr. Donato and the Radnor Vet Hospital may be victims of a Yelp smear campaign, which is what prompted me to write this review. Given our experience so far, I am surprised there are not more positive reviews to counteract the negative ones, and I hope that more of their satisfied customers will come forward to relate their positive experiences. read more

My chinchilla was sneezing and I had to pay $300 for an x day and an antibiotic (no culture was taken to be tested if he actually had an infection) then he wasn't' eating that much so she told me to stop the medication. I just stopped the pain meds first and then he ate just fine but his sneeze never went away. She then proceeds to tell me that I can do a $250 scan to see if he has rhinitis AKA RUNNY NOSE, which I can tell he's definitely stuffy without that scan. She clearly does not care about the animals and just your pockets. She was short and rude with me on the phone as well. Because I can only respond to my dog's treatment by what he tells me after when he returns home, I'm writing this through the eye's of Forrest. Or should I say the "eye" as he only had one. I am a severely deformed dog dumped by a backyard breeder at a rescue with multiple deformities, a broken leg and an under developed eye and I am only a puppy and already suffering arthritis . Forrest is my name and I am afraid of everything, the wind, the cars, any noise. I even scare myself with my hiccups. My enucleation didn't go as well as hoped but there is nothing normal about me. OK I did pee on their carpet twice and I think that might be normal. Dr. Meister, Dr. Donato and all the staff have been wonderful. The vets and techs come in to say hello when I come for follow up visits and I am a little more relaxed as they are becoming familiar. I ALWAYS get a follow up call to see how I am doing but since I am not allowed to touch the phone, they sometimes don't hear back from my Mom. All the procedures, pros and cons, are explained as well as the fact that what they would try next to stop the eye socket from filling with fluid, may not work. Mommy is not always paying attention because she doesn't want to forget to ask questions or is admiring how adorable and well behaved I am at the vet. Actually I'm scare Sh-less. Ooops I may have done that in the office too. So my health insurance has not been covering my pre-existing conditions, but Radnor vet has stood by their quote and continue to treat at minimal charges. That bought me some new toys with the savings. So I just want to say that I go home happy and basically unscathed even with the required poking and prodding. I tell Mommy she needs to write down her questions so she can listen to what she is being told and then has her crib notes for the Q&A session. I know when she is worried, she's a little ADD. If you had a bad experience, it's stressful but make sure your Mom or Dad is listening when things are explained even when you want to just scream "fix my pet and make him better". Tomorrow is surgery again but hopefully this time I won't grow a torpedo out of my eye socket. Keep kissing me and spoiling me and I'll continue to come back. I can honestly say that while I certainly respect the opinions of others, I am quite perplexed by the negative reviews for this practice. I recently traveled to Radnor (1 hr trip) to get a second opinion for my very ill rabbit. I was very upfront about this being a second opinion and my wishes for Dr. Donato to collaborate with my regular vet. My experience from start to finish was absolutely wonderful. The office is extremely clean and well kept. The receptionist, vet tech, and Dr. Donato were very professional, patient, and knowledgeable. I was treated with extreme respect throughout the visit and did not feel rushed in the during my visit; the visit actually took quite a bit of time. Dr. Donato presented my options to me and did not pressure me at all in decisions made. The prices were very comparable to other vets I've been to. We came up with a very thorough treatment plan for my rabbit and he contacted my regular vet right after my visit. I thoroughly recommend this practice. I have been to many, many vets searching for an experienced rabbit vet with a warm and personal bedside manner and Radnor is definitely at the top of the list. read more

I have taken my dog to Radnor Vet for 9 years. They are consistent with their quality of care, availability, cleanliness, and reasonable fees. The staff is professional and flexible, and excellent with communications. Service to my dog includes operations to remove teeth and a benign tumor, a possible broken foot, and an overnight stay for observation with GI issues. I first started going to Radnor Vet because of my two rabbits. I'd had many bad experiences with vets who didn't know what they were doing with them, but Dr. Donato was very knowledgeable, helpful, and kind. He was very sympathetic when one of my rabbits died (at the age of 10, which is ancient in bunny years) after a long illness. When I got my pit bull, we naturally kept going to Radnor Vet. I had hesitations, as my dog was abused before we got him and lashes out at people he doesn't know. But Dr. Donato and Dr. McGrath have been nothing short of wonderful with my dog, and my dog has always received excellent care. The staff are really kind to him and are excited to see him, which warms my heart as many people are afraid of him. Dr. McGrath often calls a few days after to check in and see how he's doing after minor surgery. All of my animals have received excellent care at Radnor Vet and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to others. read more

I have moved around quite a bit over the past 5 years, and have taken my dog to see a number of vets as a result of it. I recently moved to PA and needed to get some shots done, so after some research I took my dog to Radnor Veterinary Hospital for the first time a couple of weeks ago. In summary, this was one of the best vet experiences I have ever had. The staff was super accommodating, and Dr. Principati was amazing with Teddy (my dog). Teddy has some behavioral issues (he's a shelter dog), and going to see a vet is typically a nightmare for me. For several years I took my dog and cat to Radnor Veterinary Hospital. By and large I was happy with the service. Then two things happened. The vet that treated my large dog left the practice, and they got new help at the front desk. The "new" vet (Donato) was arrogant, preachy and the treatments provided were largely ineffective. Our family started using Radnor Vet when we learned they accepted Chinchillas. We didn't end up needing alot of care with our chinchilla and it wasn't until we adopted our dog that we had a negative reaction. When we first brought our dog to Radnor vet is was for routine care...shots and such which was fine. Then a mast cell tumor found on our dog needed removal so of course we went ahead and had it removed. We would have done so when we first brought her but the woman we met with didn't seem to think it was needed. So after the removal was completed Dr. Donato suggested chemo along with an additional surgery to remove more of the tumor that wasn't removed during the original surgery. We thought chemo was drastic for a grade 2 tumor and needed more to help make a better decision. So after seeing some negative reviews on Yelp we decided a second opinion would make sense. We have now been using Dr. Brown at Hickory Farms and love her. I feel like her approach is resonable and in the best interest of our dog. I feel as though Dr. Denato was trying to get money out of us for a treatment that wasn't necessary. He went to go as far and say our dog would only have 1 year to 1 1/2 to live because we were not doing chemo. Hickory Farms disagreed and couldn't uderstand why he would say that. If you use Radnor I would be seeking another opinion. read more

We have first used Radnor Vet Hospital for care of our guinea pigs because there aren't many places that take care of guinea pigs. When he got a dog, we stayed with them. So far we have had a great experience. Luckily our dog is healthy. I do t quite agree with some of the reviews stating that they are out for your money. Their prices are reasonable and within the range of other vet practices in the area. If you receive treatment by a physician you have to pay for it! Plain and simple. read more

If you have a rabbit, I would definately suggest giving this place a try - or at least Dr.Donato was very knowledgeable and has bunnies of his own. Unfortunately, I've discovered that not all vets who accept exotic pets know more than you do about rabbits - especially if you google everything like me. My first rabbit past away due to some intestinal blockage and my previous vet told me to just make his diet healthier and sent me home. My rabbit couldn't move his legs at the time, and I'm not sure how you get healthier than timothy hay and green veggies...And my rabbit died the next day in alot of pain...:( I took my 2nd bunny in to Dr. Donato since she wan't eating or pooing regularly (which is normally why you take in rabbits or else they can die). Dr. Donato asked questions, couldn't find anything wrong with my rabbit on the exterior (mouth, feeling the stomach, weight, etc). So he suggested an x-ray to make sure. There was a small blockage (probably from a hair band she ate). After explaining to me the potential problem and stomach irritation, he prescibed some medication and wet feed to get her bowel movements going. He provided directions on how to feed and explained the reasoning for each. AND he made a point to ask if I had anymore questions! Finally, he personally called to check up on my rabbit with in a few days. Kilo's alot better now! read more

I had to put my bird down and they were super compassionate and fantastic. They were kind and understanding and I felt like I was not pressured or rushed into any decision. They let me go into a room right away and let me pay from the room so I wasn't a hot mess in the waiting area. They did a great job. read more

We have used Radnor Vet for the past six years and had been pleased with the care that was given to our dogs. Last spring, one of our yorkies required dental cleaning with extractions and we were charged an excessive amount of money! My husband who is a surgeon charges less money for major abdominal surgery than what we were charged for our dog's dental extractions. In fact, my husband was charged less for his own four wisdom tooth extractions from our family dentist than we were charged by Radnor Vet Hospital. Really? My husband called and spoke directly to Dr Donato and after a pleasant conversation was told we would receive a partial refund, which never happened. Thankful that my sister recommended Homestead Vet in Havertown and our charge this year for the same procedure on our other yorkie was less than half the price. Dr Rouse and her staff are competent and compassionate and we thank them for providing outstanding service at an affordable price! read more

Here is my story with Radnor Vet. I will first give the negative and then the positive. Instances will be numbered. (1) We got our first pet roughly 15 + years ago, when Radnor Vet had a different owner. We had her spayed. A month or so later, she was acting very tired and slow. She died shortly after. It turns out, the team at Radnor left a piece of gauze inside the wound and it grew into a granuloma. She was 1, quite the horrific event for the children to witness. (2) Our current pet had an operation. I took her home and noticed she was constantly licking her wrist. I looked at it and saw a massive, crusted bloody cut. I called the Radnor Vet, they informed me that the team "accidentally" cut her... and somehow managed to forget to tell me. They offered me a cone to make her stop licking... and wanted me to pay the 15 or 20$. I thought, no, this is your problem, I should get it for free... (3) Our current pet had to get stitches. We returned in two weeks to have them removed. I am very adamant on following the time frame so they don't turn into an infection. A week and half later, I discovered a stitch still in there. Turns out they forgot to remove a stitch... what, out of the 2 or 3 stitches she had. This could have formed an infection and led to much worse things. Here are the positives: (1) Donato is very kind with our pet. He seems sweet. Have not encountered any negatives in his personality. The reason I kept going to Radnor Vet despite these circumstances is because I thought these were innocent mistakes. It then occurred to me that these mistakes kept repeating themselves and this is unacceptable service for a pet. Overall, I wouldn't recommend Radnor vet. Their services are iffy, and truth be told we cannot take chances on our pets. read more

I love dealing with Dr. Meister and Radnor Veterinary Hospital! I see a tremendous dedication on everyone's part to working as a team and providing a superior level of attention to detail re: meeting the medical needs of my senior cat, Nala. I honestly would not go to anyone except Dr. Meister because I know that any feedback will not be thorough enough for me to trust about her condition. Dr. Meister has such a highly-developed interest in cats that he approaches illnesses in ways that go far beyond what other vets pay attention to or are willing to invest. He puts tremendous effort into considering new treatments and alternative approaches when existing meds are not working. In my opinion, this thorough personal dedication to his animal patients is what distinguishes Dr. Meister from the other veterinarians I have seen in the past. I can only guess that the Radnor Vet team's dedication and attention to clients and their pets has grown out of the passion they see coming from the doctors and practice manager(s). read more

The staff has went the extra mile for our one pet who had a botched surgery (from where we rescued him) Dr. McGrath personally took our pup home for a week, so he would have constant care. Dr. Ehrlich is absolutely wonderful, the sort of vet you would follow around to other practices because she is THAT good and THAT personable. We have had excellent care for our dog for 13 years at Radnor Vet... have seen several different doctors there - for both regular check-ups and other health issues - over the years and all have been attentive, caring, and taken the time to call us back post-visit, sometimes in the evening or on weekends, to follow up on our dog's condition. In fact, Dr. Donato saved our dog's life in 2011 when he was able to catheterize him and remove some blockages despite a poor prognosis. We are still happily enjoying our dog's company, three years later, due to his efforts. read more

Dr. Donato is arrogant and risky. My pet had an emergency surgery done by him and a cut he made ultimately killed her. He cut her aorta by accident and there was no recovering from that. She died overnight with no one around. Now, I understand these things happen but this result was beyond what the vets told me could potentially happen and it was his mistake that killed her. They proceeded to send me an enormous bill that included the procedure that ended her life. When I picked up her body, I was told that I could deal with billing later. It took a month for the bill to come because they had my address wrong, and it came over Christmas when I wasn't home. They called, but I waited until I got the bill in the mail so I could review the charges and process before calling back. Every time I called, I spoke with a useless secretary who can't give me any information or answer my questions, and they tell me a vet will call me back. The vet who calls me back has absolutely no say in billing because Donato owns the practice. I was told by the secretary at one point, Donato would take additional money off of my bill. I told her I needed to discuss this with my partner and I would call back. There's some more phone tag, so I made an appointment to see the vet because it's easy to talk in person. I actually took two of my other pets for appointments today, giving Radnor the benefit of the doubt. I never had any problem paying for the anesthesia and medicines she needed. Today, I go to pay my bill and they take away the discount I was told I would get AFTER being told what I owed by the secretary and she doubled checked with Donato. They also couldn't offer me a payment plan because I took too long to pay my bill. So why did they see me today for appointments? Just to spite me for taking so long to pay this huge vet bill, Donato took off the discount he offered for killing my pet. He has no compassion and takes risks because he is arrogant. He thinks because he is experienced it gives him the right to take risks. This isn't the only bad experience I've had with Donato. I've been treated poorly in another visit with him with foster pets. He openly appeared annoyed with my questions and wasn't as thorough with the animal's exam like the other vets in the practice typically are. And I've seen all 4 vets. One of the fosters I had was spayed by the other vets at Radnor and it was an odd case. They all told us another surgery was too risky to finish the first procedure. But of course, Donato wanted to go in and try to finish it himself. Like I said, arrogant and risky with other people's beloved pets. It's shame because Dr. Ehrlich is a WONDERFUL vet and very knowledgeable, but Donato ruined my experience at this office. read more

Wow! I was really, really skeptical to give Radnor a chance based on all the negative reviews and sketchy comments about their practice. However, when the vet I was going to before for my rabbit wasn't working out Radnor was kind of my last option before going into the city. Initially there to get a second opinion, we are now making this our primary vet. He didn't charge us for retesting if it came up negative and gave us multiple options for treatment. I'm so happy we have radnor a try. We were so pleased we are considering bringing our cats here too. read more

I've just transferred my pets to this veterinary practice after my previous vet retired. So far, I have been completely pleased with every aspect of my experience there. Scheduling an appointment- easy and convenient. Location- perfect. Parking- plenty. Front desk staff- friendly, professional and courteous. Vet (we've seen Dr. McKee)- professional, competent, caring, intelligent. Prices-competitive with other Main Line veterinary practices. I would say this is as pleasant an experience as you can have at a vet's office. It's a shame all the 5 start reviews aren't "recommended" on the Yelp listing. Make sure you read ALL the reviews. There are lots of locals who love this place. I can see why. I look forward to bringing my furry friends here in the future. read more

Amazing care for my sick rabbit. Everyone was gentle, concerned and every question I had was answered genuinely. I was shown how to administer all medications and honestly for the area the price wasn't bad. I was expecting $300+ I paid $120. I felt very comfortable and I knew my rabbit was in great hands. My family has used Radnor vet for 15+ years and thus I have started using Radnor vet when I got my rescue foxhound 4 months ago. They are amazing- the staff is friendly and prompt at speaking to me on the phone. I have always been able to get an appointment the day of when my dog has become sick. The vets have always followed up with phone calls to me to see how my dog was doing after a visit. The frontdesk staff is professional and courteous - they promptly fax all of my pet insurance claims the day I send it to their office. Although more expensive than a cheaper animal clinic, the care your dog receives is phenomenal and I recommend this vet hospital without reservation. read more

I cannot fathom why the reviews for this veterinary practice are so low. Birds are very good at hiding their symptoms and can be stubborn patients. I have two and I wouldn't let anyone treat them besides Dr. Ehrlich. One of my little guys is getting up there in age and started having seizures and problems with his feet. My last vet thought the seizures were nothing to worry about, but Dr. Erlich knew better. She diagnosed him based on my description of his symptoms and a simple exam. She confirmed with a blood test that took only twenty minutes to return results. Radnor Veterinary Hospital offered us a same-day appointment. Check-in was quick, and we were seen on time. Dr. Erlich spent a solid 30 minutes with us, explaining her diagnosis and her recommended treatment. She ran the test for us while we waited. And I do not feel I was overcharged for Radnor's services. My primary care doctor will only see me same-day if I'm having an emergency. After arriving on time at her office, I usually wait 30-60 minutes before I'm taken to an exam room. My doctor has never spent more than 15 minutes with me. Radnor Veterinary Hospital is so good, I'd be treated there myself if I could. read more

We have gone to Radnor Veterinary Hospital for several years. They have been honest, compassionate, and informative. I appreciate that they give us the straight story when something is wrong. I also appreciate that they give us options and are always aware that cost is a concern. I never feel pushed into something I don't want or cannot afford. I have been going here for 7 years since i moved to the area. I find all the doctors at Radnor Vet to be extremely capable and spend the time I want going over what the issues are. We also use their dog day park quite often (especially on cold and/or rainy days). We had our first dog jax and now our 2nd dog Boulder go there. The staff was extremely friendly including the resident cat who greeted me as I entered. Dr. Ehrlich was very helpful with Cloud and explained her issues to me clearly and with detail. Amazing and clean facility, incredibly friendly staff. Dr Meister is the best doctor in the area, but I've never had a bad experience with any doctor here. I cannot recommend them enough!! Dr. McGrath is great with bunnies and really pleasant to deal with. It's hard to find a good exotics vet in the Philly area that doesn't charge a fortune and doesn't require you to make your appointments far in advance. I've never been unable to get an appointment when I needed one. I wish the hospital were open more on weekends, because emergencies always seem to happen on Sundays and then we end up going to Penn Vet (much more expensive and not nearly as good). read more

I've been taking my dogs to the Radnor Veterinary Hospital for at least two decades, and regularly use the Radnor Dog Club to board and exercise them. I just cannot imagine taking my guys to any other place. The staff is knowledgeable, loving and friendly. I have had a dog who is really sick and these folks would not stop until she was better.
