If I could I would give 2.5 stars. The food was decent, quick and the prices are reasonably cheap for this days market. The atmosphere is rustic and homey. The service was good and quick response. My only main complaint is the cleanliness, if this restaurant had a good whole building deep clean and they kept up with it I think they would have a good hole in the wall brunch place. read more

We tried this place a while ago but I forgot to review it. The waitress was jittery, which was weird, but nice. We had to ask for things multiple times before getting it. The food was okay. Normally, when I go here I have good service and the food is fine. Today the service was still very good but when you asked for cottage fries and you get a little cut up french fries and over cooked omelette, then do you have a cook? Who doesn't understand English or Management just doesn't give a damn anymore. Let me tell you why I rated this as a 5 star. Our server, Brandy, was just awesome. Very honest about the food and how to even ordering style. The omelets were cooked to perfection and we both loved our food. You can ask for say your hash browns to be cooked lightly otherwise they come out like straw. Good to know. My husbands biscuit was not over huge but soft and fluffy just how he likes his. This was our first time trying fried cauliflower and it was very tasty loved it. At the end of our breakfast I just had to sample the peach cobbler with ice cream. Yumm. Now as I waddle out of this establishment I bid good bye, but we will be back. read more

I stumbled upon this diner sorta by accident. I met someone in passing that just happened to share that they go to this place daily to grab a bite to eat. Really, I thought...EVERY day? Wow! Certainly it has to because it's convenient/a few doors down from his job. Well, anywho I ended up giving it a try. At first sight it isn't the most pleasant spot to look at, however I've found many 'hole in the wall' eateries to be absolutely worth taking the chance/risk to go in! I parked, peeped in, observed those sitting by the window (and their food) while pondering what I should do? Go in, drive off? Go in, drive off? Go in! That settles it, I put on my 'big girl pants' and my 'brave look' with head up and shoulders thrown back and walked on in. I was met with a pleasant enough greeting and I shared that wanted to see a to-go menu. I was handed one that almost appeared to be typed. I was shocked at first, like man, what kinda place is this, really? I must've had an odd look because the hostess said she'd find a better one, but I assured her it was ok. All I needed to do was SEE the menu CLEARLY and order. That said, I found just what I wanted. I chose the Western Omelet, Hash Browns and Rye. There was a nice crowd of customers dining in. Some looked like locals....just like the person who referred me....like they came all the time. They have breakfast and lunch items on the menu and folks were eating a variety of food. Mind you, it's no Snooze or First Watch in appearance, but the hours are about the same, 6:00am-2:00pm. Moving on, the order was completed pretty fast. I paid (around 10.50) and jetted to my destination, about 10 minutes away. The food was still warm when I sat down to eat. The omelet and rye were delicious...omg! I probably could've devoured two. On-the-other-hand, the hash browns were HORRIBLE. They were stuck together and filled with grease all at the same time. They seemed old, like they'd been in the freezer since before the Pandemic. Rancid, rank, stale. You get the picture. Thank GOD for the omelet and toast. I won't count them out because of this, but I will pass on the hash browns next time and I don't plan to get the breakfast potatoes either. They appeared dry (on other folks plate). Now that I think of it, maybe it's 'a thing' with potatoes...idk, but I'm good. I'm not 100% certain of how long Ranch Cafe' has been in business, but I think they are good enough to keep people coming back and stay in business. So, if you're ever in the area or just feel like venturing out with an appetite for breakfast including a great omelet (or lunch) I think you'll be fine stopping in, but listen, if it's not your cup of tea, don't drink it...you know what I mean... read more

I was in the area for a funeral and recalled a breakfast place called, Shirley's, at this address which had decent diner food. Although it pretty much looks the same on the outside, the name has changed to Ranch Cafe and I assume it has different owners as well. That's too bad, because this place is missing the friendly charm and quality food that once lived here. The restaurant is spacious with plenty of table and booth seating, as well as a respectable countertop bar area. Unfortunately, it struggles to have any real theme or identity with Cowboy decor, 50s diner flare, pinup girls and a little Betty Boop thrown in for some unknown reason. However, I care more about the food than the surroundings - as long as the place is clean - and for the most part, it at least appeared to be that. Our server seemed preoccupied and treated us like a disruption to her day. She wasn't really unfriendly, but had this "Ugh, what do you want" sort of attitude. The food was a disappointment. The food came like 2 minutes after we ordered it. As in many cases, "fast" doesn't necessarily mean good. My over-easy eggs were both fried hard with one of the yolks broken. The sausage patties had the potential to be tasty, but they seemed pre-cooked as if they had been made hours ago and just slightly reheated. The hashbrowns were soggy and limp from grease. I also ordered a side of biscuits and gravy, which wasn't bad, but also not anything that was going to salvage this experience. In my opinion, there's enough breakfast spots within a 2 mile radius of here that you don't need to deal with mediocre service and reheated microwaved food. If something doesn't change soon, Ranch Cafe, should do everyone a favor, cut its losses, and just be put out to pasture. read more

A coworker told me about this place (I'm from NKC, so I don't get into Grandview much outside of work) and I'M SO GLAD SHE DID!!! I was raised in the South, and let me tell you, this is some 5-star fried okra. No joke. Somebody's grandma is in that kitchen working some magic. I ordered the Friday Special (shrimp) and even the cocktail sauce is perfect. With a good swig of their sweet tea, I feel like I'm in my hometown again. The peach cobbler is even good cold!!! What is not to like about Ranch Cafe? The employees are friendly and personable. The service is perfect. The atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed. There is no pretense here. I enjoyed the friendly helpful service of their wait staff. The cafe was still very new and clean. The decor is a western ranch theme (obviously) with a splash of racy pictures of pinup type girls on the walls.The seating is ample. IMHO The menus have way too much in the way of advertisements on them. The ads take up at least a third to half the menu space. I ordered the Philly omelet with jalapenos. It was very tasty with a generous portion of beef and cheese.The cottage fries that I ordered with it were interesting. I don't think I have ever eaten sliced potatoes for breakfast. All in all, my trip to this cafe was pretty good. I look forward to returning soon. read more

I have been driving by this place for several years and a friend ask to help move him, this was my chance to try this place out, walk in and sign said to seat yourself, wooded bar with chairs,ask questions what good , the server explain and what she likes, the customer are friendly and helpful, the music is c&w, nice painting on the wall, had the hot sandwich, chix fried steak on homemade potatoes on whit toast and yes the server knows what good,tall ice tea,try the fresh homemade cobbler, there was 4 servers and they take turns in serving customers , I will be back read more

I've been in for breakfast a couple of times now. The food: I had the same thing both times. Biscuit and gravy, bacon, eggs and hash browns. Biscuit and gravy were fabulous. I hate the places that serve either too little gravy or gravy that isn't very hot so you have to scarf it down quick. The gravy was piping hot and plenty of it. It also tasted great. Bacon and eggs were done just the way I like them. The hash browns were a bit crispy but tasty nonetheless. I will definitely go back. Service: Very attentive. Water glass and coffee cup were never empty. Empty plates were cleared away quickly. On my first visit I ordered pop and was given a to-go cup. Decor: Country chic. A little worn and mismatched but it adds to the charm. All in all, this is exactly what I expect in a neighborhood cafe. Nothing fancy, darn good comfort food with friendly service. Wish I could give zero stars been at this place multiple times, today my daughter had hair in her food. It was at the bottom of her pancake it was 2 peice of hair next to her pancakes and the some under her pancake. They where short brown when I showed the waitress who had track mark up and down both of her arms. She took it and came back and said it was none of the people who works there hair. R u kidding u me!! Is that ur apology for something so gross. She said the cook has blonde hair, I said I just watch a guy come out of the kitchen and look at me that had brown hair and a beard. She said he is not a cook he is a dish washer! I said okay well it was on the her plate under the food so that would make since. She was very rude! I said so ur telling me that we took our hair chopped it up and put in our food she said no I did not say that. Well when u come out to me and tell me that it is none of yours hair then more less yes u r. What she should said is I talk to my manager and let her know and we are very sorry and well make sure that it doesn't happen again. When I told her the way should of address the issue she walked away from me yelling as loud as she could across the restaurant and in front of all the customers to get out and never come back. She was so disrespectful and acting like that in front of my daughter. I would never go back anyways. There lost we are very good tippers and always offer to buy someone else meal when we are there. Not one person in the back had hair nets, that probably where they should start. Stopped here after church because IHOP was insanely busy, and I am sure glad we did. The service was great, the food was amazing- tasted like good ol home cookin. I had the Western Omelet with red/yellow bell peppers, ham steak, ground sausage, and cheese - hashbrowns extra crispy (and they actually made them extra crispy!) which was amazing. They ran out of biscuits & gravy but that's because we showed up around 12:45 and they're open 6-2pm. Definitely will be back, even if we have to drive from OP. read more

We're new to town and couldn't help noticing how crowded the Ranch Cafe is each day. There's no better advertising than a packed parking lot, right? So we were expecting good things when we went for brunch on a Saturday. Walking in, we were greeted by no one. We couldn't tell whether we should wait to be seated or seat ourselves. Finally, my husband tracked down a server who told us to just find a spot. Our server got to us quickly and brought us drinks (my Dr Pepper was mostly ice). I ordered the chicken fried steak dinner with mashed potatoes, fries and a side salad. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast special. The first disappointment was when my "salad" arrived. It was a small handful of iceberg lettuce, shredded cheese (the kind you get in a big bag) and a small container of poor-quality, bottled ranch dressing. I checked to be sure, but there was not a fragment of tomato, carrot, cucumber, or anything else salad-like in it. Our food arrived promptly, but it wasn't much better. Our chicken fried steaks were very thin and leather-like, with a cornmeal based coating, and were both overcooked. The gravy looked a bit scorched and lacked flavor. The mashed potatoes were lumpy and dry. The fries were the standard crinkle-cut that you buy at the grocery store. There were two pieces of toast that were soggy and only toasted on one side. My husband did like his hash browns. Just inside the front door of the cafe, there's a sign that says something to the effect that their food might be too salty, too peppery, or lumpy, but it doesn't come from a bag. I beg to differ. Quite a bit of my meal came from a bag--which would have been okay if they'd prepared it well. I don't think we'll be back. read more

Prices are JUST where they should be, so I go there quite often. It is just a clean, homey little restaurant so don't be expecting a high end decor. They pay their attention to the food and that is as it should be. Oh, and don't go for supper; they are open for breakfast and lunch only,7 days a week . If you have not been there, go early. If you go on Sunday, you better skip the sermon or else you won't get ta eat yer lunch; They are PACKED! But if you are one of the chosen and get in, you can thank me later!! After reading the reviews on Yelp, I opted to give this cafe a try. My husband and I recently moved to the area and are looking for the things we like to eat when we go out. Breakfast out is a rarity, but it was late in the morning and a holiday. We don't live far from this cafe and it was not super busy when we arrived. It was confusing when entering because there was no one to greet you nor a sign to seat yourself. I ordered a western omelet from the senior menu, which to my surprise did not have the usual green pepper, onion and tomato, but instead was ham, cheese, bacon and sausage. I did find one small piece of tomato. The hashbrowns are crispy, almost too much, and very greasy. The biscuit is large with too much crust. It might have been better under some gravy. It's just an "ok" place. I have a few more places to try. read more

Love this hidden treasure! Drove out here from KC to meet a friend who was driving from Clinton. I got there first, seated myself, and within 1 minute I was drinking water. Atmosphere was relaxed and country chic (and patriotic!) The staff was very friendly and helpful. I perused the menu for a while and was told I could order off the senior menu if I wanted (I'm in my 20s). I don't eat much so it's nice to order from a menu with smaller portion sizes. I got the senior meat combo with 2 slices of bacon, 1 egg, hash browns, and a slice of toast. Meal delivered very quickly. Maybe all of 5 minutes. It was delicious and cooked just how I requested. From the moment we walked into the cafe, I felt people staring at us. We were told by the straight faced cashier to sit where we liked. We ordered and more people came in, and stared at us. I was very uncomfortable. We had the Saturday special, chicken fried steak and eggs. I ordered a large orange juice with ice. Our food came, my oj came in a small baby cup, not even a cube of ice would fit. MY opinion of the food and coffee: the food was not good, it was bland. The coffee was just okay.
